Appointing a quality coach just before the egm would certainly b a king master stroke he would b a great signing but will he come with a director of football

A director of football not a bad thing with a young coach

Are you guys kidding the boy is 28 he has never managed a team in his life , he never played football professionally at any level . You need an experienced manager not some kid who's been an assistant for 2 seasons.

{Ed001's Note - why does playing the game matter? Coaching is a completely different skill from playing, Mourinho was a crap player but one of the best coaches in the world.}

Well said ed. I think if it is cathro it is perfect , young full of energy , ambitious, no baggage and own ideas.

Bring it on.

{Ed001's Note - it is this insistence on ex-players going into coaching that has held back British football. Many of the European coaches are now lifetime coaches, rather than retired players.}

Rumours that he could be heading to Liverpool as part of the coaching set up.

Correct Ed
But many of our fans live in the bygone days of yore, making it harder to move forward cause we're always looking back to past players , past managers rangers minded people why!

Fab 1 a bet u r backing warburton though to be manager check his playing profile if your saying cathros ain't good enough a would be happy with eathier just fed up with ex gers players getting favours want something new

What we don't need is more ex rangers players coming bk new start new team new tactics we need a freshness about ibrox and start using murray park for what it was intended for.

I didn't say he had to be an ex rangers player ed but let's go with the Jose morinho myth that managers don't need to be ex players do these names ring a bell , ancelotti ,Enrique simeoni ,pellegrini morinho ,Wenger , allegri ,Garcia ,pioli ,blanc ,jardim ,Fournier ,hecking , favre and guardiola , they should as they are the coaches from the first , second and third placed teams in Europe's big five leagues, what they also have in common ( with the exception of two ) is they all have had distinguished playing careers all have played hundreds of professional games and most have over 20 international caps , the two that don't cut their teeth at several third division teams in France and Portugal before climbing up the divisions, now I'm a Celtic fan who is more than happy with Ronnie but do I think he would have been ready for the Celtic job at 28 years of age with no managerial experience, not a chance . Cathro is 28 years of age with no managerial experience and is nowhere near ready to take over a big club like rangers , let's remember McDowell had a excellent reputation as a youth coach and still left a broken man after a couple of months in charge , I actually don't think it needs to be a ex professional player but the job is far to big for a 28 year old boy with only two seasons as an assistant under his belt in my humble opinion.

{Ed001's Note - you seem to forget that the reason they are mainly ex-players is that there was no way of a coach advancing to management unless they had been an ex-pro until recently. So to suggest that this meaningless list has any bearing is just idiotic. It shows a clear ignorance of the situation.}

So can I ask what cathro has done in football to be handed the reigns at ibrox , he has a couple of seasons as assistant manager and from what I gather is highly thought of as a coach within the sfa but as rangers are not going down the dof root do you really think a guy with so little management experience is ready to take on the massive rebuilding task from top to bottom , while handling the intense scrutiny that the Scottish media and 40000 fans would put him under , what has he done so far that makes you think he is ready for that?

{Ed001's Note - did I at any point say I think he is ready?}

12 Jun 2015 15:56:54
Oh and by the way Wenger did not play professional football but has been a top manager for over 20 years so there must have been away for guys who were not ex pros to advance into management before , or does that not fit into your theory?

{Ed001's Note - actually he was one of the originators that forced their way through. Are you just trying to argue out of arrogance? Because you are simply making yourself look stupid arguing this point. Or perhaps you are just as ignorant as you seem because you have clearly never explored the possibility of going into coaching professionally after not being a pro. Why do people argue about things they haven't a clue about? Why not just accept you are wrong and show that you are an adult?}

Anyone heard of a young lad in England, who was Bournemouth manager in his 20's. Eddie Howe!

Moved to burnley in his 20's, signed a young lad called Danny Ings.

Anyway this guy is now a premier league manager and is now in his early 30's.

Just sayin!!

Bobby I'm not for a minute saying it never works , I'm just wondering what cathro has actually done to have all these fans clambering for him , I think in the future career managers will become more and more popular rather than handing guy a job just because they have played for a team 500 times but I think they would be cutting there teeth at smaller clubs . In this specific instance I don't think the guy is nearly experienced enough to take on a club of rangers size and everything that entail's.

I think Rangers need a manager who is very familiar with the Scottish game.
There is very little time, not a lot of money and no existing scouting team .
The problem of bringing in someone , not currently up to date with Scottish Football is that he can have a person knowledgeable with the local game but will the two men have the same football vision?

was it /is it not on FIFA/UEFA'S agenda that only former pro's would be acceptable on to the coaching courses necessary to manage major leagues teams?
Maybe was CM and I am blurring the virtual lines.

As far as I'm concerned the only difference between a coach and a manager is picking a team, a team talk and dealing with the press. Coach works with players more than a manager does, he oversees training while a coach runs it. We don't have the big time players, or huge selection choices that might deem 'an experienced manger' necessary. What we have is a chance to start again, using youth and some shrewd business. The guy was deemed good enough at 22 to run dundee utds entire youth academy (one which Btw has passed all over ours recently) he owned his own coaching school before that which is where John sputter and gms were found. So he knows a player, he knows how to train a team into a system, he's been called a genius of a coach in spain at valencia who again Btw have just recently started churning out youths. Anybody that wouldn't want him is blind as if we miss this chance he'll end up too big for us to ever get. I personally may be dreaming but I'd love him to come in under Warburton with the plan that he takes over in say 3-5 years
