Sun sportswriter andy (chubby) devlin was reporting this morning that rangers will name their new DOF by the end of the week. The 3 in the frame are ross wilson, paul mitchell and stuart webber! Devlin also states that, rangers directors have shortlisted our candidates, for the new manager position down to 3.The announcement on that should be the following week!

According to devlin, the 3 managers in the running, are 2 managers currently employed at a club, while the other candidate is not currently at a club and seen as more of a gamble! That would almost certainly rule out frank de boer as far as i'm concerned, because you couldn't consider de boer as a gamble, and he's not currently in employment, that rules him out on both counts!

The rumours and identity of the 3 candidates are as follows! Garry monk (leeds utd), david wagner (huddersfield town) and gary rowett (currently no club)! what's our thoughts here fellow bears? Also ED, who's opinions i like and respect, what's your take mate?

He's spot on then in terms of the type of manager we need .
Monk, Rowett and Wagner have been my 3 favourite choices so that would really excite me and I think the fans.
Of course Monk and Wagner wouldn't make a decision till end of the season as both in potential promotion to PL so Rowett would be the risky choice although lots of potential but less experience.

I'd be happy with wagner

Well a no to all 3 managers there from me because they won't be up to it and couldn't care less a about a director of football because it's a made up job in my mind and we shouldn't be wasting a wage on a position like that and just concentrate on getting a new manager in full time now. And no TOMUSA, not John Terry as player manager!

Wagner? Richard Wagner might be better and he's deid! What happened to a high profile appointment? Right now, I'd go for Billy Davies until the end of the season at least and get wee Barry Ferguson in to assist him. Not too fussed about DOF and don't know enough about the alleged short-listed candidates.

Still need a short term though.

Have the board not learned anything? They employed a manager from the English Championship MW and see where that has ended up - a team full of championship players that are not capable or worthy of the challenge, playing for rangers and the managers that are named are no better than championship, so what's the point in bringing in one of them?

tried and tested of the Scottish game and also a knowledge of what is required from a player and manager is what is required.

Celtic were in the same position last season and they got a manager that knew what their club was about, and what the fans were wanting to see on the park from a player. Dave King you need to get a manager with some sort of connection to this club or at least Scotland.

Another failed season under an English championship manager is the wrong choice, the season ticket renewal will be a reflection on who is in charge for next season and Garry monk, Wagner and Gary Howlet is not a reason to re-new season tickets.

I've heard it could be Ross Wilson as D. O. F
Barry Ferguson as 1st team coach

Doiger

Webber is DOF at Huddersfield and Wagner is the manager and they are currently in 3rd position in the Championship.
We are never going to get a high profile appointment unless we get major investment.

Rodgers had no previous experience of Scottish Football but he did have considerable experience as a top quality manager. In terms of knowing what the Club was all about I guess you could argue that given where he came from he had a good understanding of that. Rangers are high profile, they are known worldwide, any manager coming in knows that we expect to win championships. They will also be well aware of the traditions of the Club.
If we secure Wilson or Mitchell as Director of Football we will by all accounts have secured one of the best in football and for me Mitchell would be the preferred candidate.
In terms of manager I most definitely don't want Billy Davies, he has far too much baggage given his association with Sheridan and at the end of the day we need a manager that warrants respect not one that associates with scum.

In terms of who the managers are that we are interested in it is all guess work and if we serious about getting a high profile appointment then we will need serious funds for investment.

There are a few managers that are out of a job just now including Ranieri and at the end of the season there could be more! It is all guesswork and could even be an overseas manager that is at the end of their contract.

The only thing that worries me about all of this is that at present we are in freefloww in a downward spiral and Murty is out of his depth.

We will not secure a top three finish with him in control and that is no disrespect to the guy!

A lot of people on here absolutely deluded and small time - moaning about the rumours which they all are and suggesting someone like billy Davies is a good idea ? I think he's a joke and old school and Why does it have to be someone with rangers connection I think it's nonesense - name any club in the world who thinks this way - so smalll minded - if it's not a Rangers connection doesn't mean they aren't up for the job - MW didn't work it but let the board make the appointments I'm sure they will get it right this time - DOF is a good way to go -they are trying something different and should be admired especially if they get Ross Wilson or the ex Spurs chap - whoever they appoint not everyone is going to be happy but some of the reasons on here for not going for a Gary Monk or a Wagner is clueless - these are both very highly rated managers and would be a coup - the club is not what it was we need to face facts -

26 Feb 2017 14:15:53
Utter crap Wagner or monk won't leave there teams to come to rangers. Behave yourselfs

12.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 16:06:04
Derek Mcinnes is surely on the shortlist.

26 Feb 2017 16:15:31
Bears. while the vast majority of us would love FDB i think its unlikely. i'd happily take Tommy Wright. he knows scottish game very well and to win scottish cup with ST J is outstanding. Either DOF from spurs or southampton be great. Ps Stewart Robertson has cancelled planned meeting with Club 1872 on monday. hopefully because he's announcing new DOF. rescheduled meeting on wed 1 March.

14.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 16:14:44
The candidate who is a gamble is Barry Ferguson.

15.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 16:20:05
We deserve better than the 3 mentioned. shows a lack of ambition . like our players second rate and not good enough

16.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 16:25:54
Please God no, unless only an interim

17.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 16:27:38
Stungun100,if you're telling me that garry monk and david wagner wouldn't be good appointments, for us, under a DOF, then IMO you need to go and think long and hard about the ability in football managers/ head coaches! Monk would be a tremendous appointment for us! So would wagner!

18.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 16:17:39
Wagner for me, his he German/ American

19.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 16:22:07
in my opinion king and other board members will get a good director of football with knoledge of players from numerous countries if the apoint wilson
but they need to back him and the new manager with investment in the scouting department and funds to buy players and not a squad full of freebies
the 3 managers above i would take garry monk but in my opnion king ect should be pulling out all the stops to get frank deboer in he nos the club and has a wealth of contacts in the game backed witb funds him and wilson would be a good pairing

20.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 16:28:24
Garry monk - Leeds. 4th in Championship have a great chance of going to EPL. Why would he come to the SPL. Same fir Huddersfield manager. Wont happen. Celtic and Rangers would sell their grannies to get into the Championship never mind the EPL. those boys ate not coming. Now Gary Howlet would be a decent appointment apart from the fact thst you are managing the old firm and i don't think any manager coming up here gets the pressure of managing Celtic or Rangers.

21.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 16:28:51
He does not need to be Rangers connection but needs to understand what is required and what the fans want and what is expected from managing Rangers . If they are looking at championship managers surly the correct man would then be Alex Rae. He has plenty experience now managing in Scotland and now in England, he knows what would be acceptable in performance and would know the type of player ie correct mentality and ability to play for angers, does not have to be a million pound player to have correct attributes, he is also a young coach with lots going for him

22.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 16:33:24
I disagree with you Espekay! Whichever manager doesn't get promoted between garry monk and david wagner, they could possibly come to rangers! I certainly think there would be a good chance!

23.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 18:21:15
For me the board has to push the boat and get Frank de Boer if we have any chance of challenging them next season. We need to broaden our scouting network beyond English lower leagues. There is some gems to picked up abroad and if we have a manager like de Boer then that can only be a good thing for attracting these guys.

24.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 19:38:49
Some folk on here are deluded . let me spell it out there is no way Monk or Wagner would leave a team challenging for the Pemier League to come to us. total madness. Gary Rowett maybe, McLeish maybe, McInnes possibly, but stop this nonsense about Monk he's out of our league at present.

25.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 20:08:41
Could be Fergie as interim manager but moving to number 2 when new manager appointed at end of season. If that's the case then the new manager cannot have a previous connection with Rangers.

26.) 26 Feb 2017
26 Feb 2017 23:36:13
Briggsbear is spot on with de boer I think he has to be the main target if not tho I'd take monk, pargew, even jol people of that standerd who have managed at a high level not mediocre McGinnis wright rowett or Davis!

27.) 27 Feb 2017
27 Feb 2017 00:35:35
supercoopereleven none of these mangers have worked under a must win pressure environment and 2nd will not do. They are good coaches in there own right and working in the championship where on any given day anyone can beat anyone, but there is a world of difference and Mark Warburton has proved this to be true as he could not handle the step up from managing in the English championship to manager of rangers, every interview he was always going on about the pressure to get results and the demands of being manager of rangers, so replacing one for an other makes no sense in my opinion which I am entitled too aswell

28.) 27 Feb 2017
27 Feb 2017 02:24:00
we need a good manager doesn't always have to be high profile name as long as he's good at his job.
