Evening Ed.

After that horror show today somethings needs to be done urgently or we will have no european football next season whatsoever. Do you think there is any serious chance of steven gerrard coming to us and if he does would this signal major funding for summer spending. I see it this way it is a risky chance being taken if he doe's get the job. But with his links with liverpool we could gain some good talent on loan from them and with him being a big name player world wide people could come just because he is manager. I just wish that this nightmare we are in would end and soon. something has to happen in the next few days regarding manager and investment or we are doomed.

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea what Gerrard will decide and it is up to him. As for funding, I really think it depends on what you call major. Gerrard will not take it if he does not feel he would have the backing to compete.}

Gerrard is not the saviour! He is a big name ex player who has less coaching experience than Pedro, McCoist, McCall and Murty. Whatever players he brings, if ANY, will still need to be coached. We are going backwards. An under 20s coach to an inexperienced U18s coach in Gerrard. Everyone lumping in on this because of his playing reputation, take a minute and ask yourself why we can't get a half decent Cozch/ Manager. I can't believe people are happy with Gerrard but are dead against other (more experienced) names that have been mentioned.

I don't see why SG would take the job? If he fails his career is dead before it starts. If Rangers want to challenge they need 4 or maybe 5 quality players. SG may get a couple of decent loan deals but any manager needs time. This King talk about guaranteeing success is rubbish. As for major investment, what is major investment. Rangers owe £17mill now. So that needs paid off with maybe another £17mill plus on top. The only way to get that back is CL football. Can't see who would want to throw £35mill into any Scottish club. The only way is to slowly grow. Look at Hibs. No debt, decent squad. Not obsessed with any other club. Supporters enjoying their football. If supporters can't accept that then all that is ahead are more years of disappointment. No one is catching Celtic soon. Maybe win some silverwear but not the league. Don't see Aberdeen, Hibs etc expecting anything different so why should Rangers expect anything because they are Rangers?

you don't need to be an experienced manager to be sucessful. also gerrard if he is to be our new manager will have experienced coaching staff with him. he was the type of player who would get stuck in if someone wasn't doing their job. also we are more likely to attract a better quality of player because of who he is. I am not saying he is the answer but i believe giving financial backing and the right coaching staff in place he might just be the answer.

If he does take the job, it is a piece of marketing genius. All the media attention it will get, as it is now, puts the club in the spotlight even more and makes its more marketable product in the process, driving up sponsor deals.

James09, give any decent manager the financial backing he needs and he has a good chance if success. I agree with that. The question is this, how much does he need. Well if Celtic don't strengthen then maybe £12 to £15mill. Celtic sell Dembele. Maybe £15mill topps for him. Buy Edouard so no difference. Lose Rogic and Armstrong which will happen. They need to spend £8MILL to replace so that's Dembele money gone but another £5 or £6 from Armstrong and Rogic. Tierney won't go. So they use the Rogic and Armstrong money to maybe go out and buy a couple more so the gap stays the same. Rangers have little to sell aoart from Morales who is Dembele is worth £15mill then Morales is not worth much more than £8 or £9mill topps.
Celtic have £30mill in the bank. If they qualify for CL again then another £25mill is getting banked. So if Celtic want to they can step up again. Issue is that right now till Rangers, Hibs and Aberdeen mount a challenge they don't need to. So in reality the new Rangers manager needs many millions and he won't get that. So Rangers fans have no change coming next year

The best players don’t always cost the most. It’s about getting Value for your money. Ceptics Squad is full of players purchased for under a £1m including regulars like Dembele, Griffiths, Gordon, Tierney, Ajer, Rogic etc
Murphy £1.2m
Candeias £700k
Morelos £1m
Cummings £900k
Docherty £400k
Dorrans £1.5m?
Ryan Jack free
McCrorie Yth
Tav £250k
Windass £100k
Mcgregor Free
Arfield Free

Basically there’s value signings everywhere from Bosmans to loan market and minor fees, it’s about targeting 2-3 positions who are your weakest which i'd say includes both CHalfs and ensuring you get good players in on favourable terms, repeat process over next few windows and we have a team to compete. Regardless of how much cash they have they won’t sanction a deal of £8m plus for any player and there’s not many players with a high value that would consider joining Scottish football.
We have a good enough GK, LB, RB, CM x2 CAM x2 RW and LW and 2ST
We need 2 1st team CHalfs, back up or competition for both full back roles.
Jack, Holt, Halliday, Rossiter, Dorrans, Docherty, McCrorie for CM I’d punt 4 and bring in other starter in CM
Dorrans, Arfield and Windass for CAM I’d punt Windass and use funds for CB or CM
Need a wide player for back up to Candeias with Arfield covering Murphy if required again get shot of O’Halloran and Pena
Keep Morales unless we get £6m plus with Cummings and sign 1 more Striker, get shot of DoDo, Herrera, Miller (gone) Niko (gone)

I know it’s difficult getting shot of players on decent money but it’s possible to loan them out, get small fee or terminate their contract for a smaller fee.
Add steel, Heart, Desire and Pride into the mix and we will get back to where we belong again

Well written the Glasgow ranger. I’d get rid tav, rumour Swansea want to buy for 3.5 Million. I’m afraid I have never rated him as a defender.

I agree, Tav stepped up defensively for a while with Candeias helping him but recent old firms have highlighted his inabilities again, he like Windass is replaceable and I’d expect £2m for each, insert sell on clauses and use the funds wisely. Personally I’d have Arfield playing in the 10 with Dorrans as back up if the new manager is going to play that formation.
Next 3 games may define next Season in terms of who we can attract and budget. Obv if they win Cup top 4 will suffice for Europe but let’s make sure we get top 3 minimum and build again
