Geordie fan in peace

Ashley is a business man first and that's what will shape any decisions he makes about your club. He will want to make as much money from your club and he will be banking on getting you guys back in the champions league spending as little money as possible. I still don't think he will sell Newcastle just jet ether as that's just a cash cow for him, all he is bothered about is keeping us in the prem. that's it, no ambition in footballing terms

Am I missing something here. Why has Ashley got so much power with less than10% shares. I also thought that company law stated that directors must take the best offer available which Ashley's obviously is not. Can anyone explain

Bigals:I'll have a go,fat Easdale said the due dilligence done by what was left of the board, showed Ashleys offer to be best for the club. Also his offer stipulated he was to have two of his men on the board.Threats of legal action were threatened upon non-compliance of this, put that in with the merchandise contracts he already had,and there you have it.Money always wins.

Jimmy 1976 is it possible he sees Rangers as a better option to get to the champions league than Newcastle. the amount of money he would need to spend to overturn Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool is just not going to happen. where all he has to do up here is beat celtic to get to the qualifiers. although looking at what celtic came up against this season we would still need to have a really good team. but and its a big but if we did manage to get to the champions league the amount of money he could make off the back of that would be as much as what Newcastle make in the premiership. i'm going to stop before I'm committed!!

@1 That's been bothering me a lot,the legal threats I mean. This Crighton guy was all for King then has a last minute change of heart. Also why did Nash leave without a payday? Does anyone think maybe some unsavoury dealings were stumbled upon? Nash leaves with the middle of a doughnut,Crighton stays and says he'll be a good boy. All conjuncture I know but,who knows?

So if he turns things around as he did at Nufc and we make a profit for 3 yrs in a row as Nufc have done, will that be good or bad for us

We must make our expenditure match our income that's the basics

The elephant in the room is retail sales and/or image rights, both are worthless if Rangers is not happy and healthy.
MA interests coincide with Rangers, both have to be successful for both to make money, anyone who says otherwise does not understand retail or MA.
There are some NUFC who resent Ashley for keeping ticket prices down and not charging any interest on 129 million, just goes to show how fickle football fans are.
Fans applauded CG for his brutal honesty, he was in it for the money, now MA is demonized for being intent on making money out of Rangers.
Football fans have engulfed themselves in some kind of pseudo class war, don't know if it is a reaction to the financial crash or the ever widening gap between the rich and the poor. MA is a businessman not some cheap spiv.

MA is not Robin Hood nor is he the Sheriff of Nottingham, he is a clever businessman who has invested 2.5 million in Rangers and makes 3 million per year out of retail, he is protecting his interests and he will fix Rangers his way, but it will be fixed properly.

Suggest you get behind him and see what he does, worth the gamble.

The money Newcastle make in the premiership is more than Rangers would make in the champions league. Also he must be aware of FFP regulations, Rangers would clearly fail these and therefore not be eligible for European competition.

Bigals, Quite simply a credit facility, first £2m then 5 then whatever. He now has us by the short and curlies.

9.) 28 Oct 2014
Another feature in business to gain control is to allow a credit facility slip. Then you are totally wrapped up like a kipper.

I don't get this whole 'Holy Grail/champions league for MA' thing. As far as expanding the brand that is Sports Direct at champ league games goes, the only mention of it would be when the commentators mention the stadium name. Unless it's a uefa sponser, all other advertising gets covered up(unless he starts sponsoring the shirts which would mean even less money for the club!). As for champ league money, the English prem makes him far more money than a group qualification once every 2-4 years. I just don't see him making any investments in rangers. He'll make cutbacks and make the club sustainable, but it won't be successful.

Would love to know myself gkk what legal threats he could've used against them must be something good for one to walk and other to comply with his wishes. still have the feeling he owns more share through someone else, to be able to wield so much influence.

Jimmy - if he can get us back to where we were I don't give a monkeys ahole how much he makes in the process as long as he puts us in good shape the same as your Nufc is mate

@5 JG. Nobody would argue if he turns the company roound and makes a profit 3 years running, but if he does that, remembering that this is Scottish football, we won't be appearing in Europe for any length of time, if at all

@11 r.f Its a strange one that,I mean they're on a board of directors and they have contracts. They can resign (as they done)or be binned. He must have the goods on them over something.

@6 I don't get the reasoning that ashley needs rangers to be in the CL regularly to make money from retail. He will already be making money from retail and we're not even in the spl. Yes being in CL might mean more retail sales, but then he would have to fork out big time every year to get us there and keep us at that level. So it's fairly obvious ashley will want to find the optimum spend level to maximise net profit. That may well not involve putting us into CL zone, he might find the retail does very nicely with just a foray into europe every few years. We'll just need to wait n see. But if CL route doesn't bring most net profit then he won't be aiming for that. He is no SDM prepared to lose millions for the sake of a flash of glory. That much is clear.
