I was wanting to leave this alone but when we signed Barton, he went on twitter saying Brown wasn't in his league and he was going to be the best player in Scotland (which, btw, is a undermining his own team mates), when i said he shouldn't make comments like this and that he should do his talking on the park, i was slated for this and people said, he was better than Brown and he was right to say what he wants on twitter etc. I wonder if those same people are thinking the same now?

in his day scott brown couldn't lace his boots it's true everybody's seen how good he can be. but if he comes back and plays he has got to prove his day hasn't passed.

It is categorical, Joey Barton IS a better player than Scott Brown, Andy Halliday, Jason Holt, John McGinn, Nir Bitton et al.

He has played at the highest level in England almost his entire career, done well enough in France and was a stand out in the winning team of possibly the hardest league in world football, so to say that over the course of 5 months he has become less a player than a man who daren't challenge himself at the highest level and stays where he feels comfortable is laughable.
No Joe hasn't showed up well for us, yes he should have chosen his sound-bites more carefully, and yes the whole fall out has been an unwanted distraction (both from him and the club) .
However, his undoubted ability can not be questioned, and I feel that with a different manager (say for example Walter, Harry Redknapp etc that get the best out of difficult characters) we would have saw all of those qualities.

Our system and style doesn't suit his play, he is an in the trenches kind of player (see Burnley stats last season) and much the same as Garner and OHalloran - I don't think our system suits these players and its such a shame to have spent money on them to then not get the best from them, that falls at the managers door. I digress however, I think that Joey has been used as a punch bag for a lot of fans looking to excuse the inept performances from players and staff so far this season and the only game we have impressed for 90mins was against a team from the lower division (is that maybe our level? )

Please tell me how , and what exactly has joey Barton done in the game of football.
It's pathetic, and through blue tinted specs your making these assumptions, Barton is nothing but a thug, who has 1 cap, and won nothing in the game to warrant what your saying.

Cant agree with that, if you read his interviews he's been doing for his book he is an absolute ned, tallking about doing Scott Brown if it was 1 on 1.also basically saying he's been rubbish because he's playing with rubbish. and for the undoubted statement, don't make me laugh. Kris Boyd hit it on the head for me, he's used us and he's a disgrace.

Blueblazer I noticed you missed out the points that this is also a man that has been sent to prison for common assault he also stubbed a cigarette out on a youth team players face. So Scott Brown is a better player and a better person And he is still going on about he would do Scott brown one on one the man is a complete thug which you think is fine in your eyes, so it tells us all which kind if person you are.

You say in his day scott brown coukdnt lace his boots at what stage of his career was HIS DAY? I recall a gobby wee ned floating from club to club not really achieving much. But i am really glad your club signed him the two seem a good fit hope he stays for the remainder of his contract.

Listen, the be all and end all is at their peaks Barton WAS twice the player lego could ever hope to be, if you think any differently you are on another planet. The problem with jb is his attitude and conduct simple as. I would have hoped at 34 he would have screwed the nut and helped bring on younger players but clearly his attitude is still the same. We have a big decision to make regarding his future but I trust Warbs and Weir to get it right.

Bluedie - I didn't once touch on his character really only his ability, he may well be a ned, but so was Ian Ferguson, Barry Ferguson, Charlie Miller et al - this doesn't detract from their footballing ability, and whilst he may be a ned in terms of his upbringing and his speech, he actually puts himself across far more eloquently than two thirds of the posts on this site.

bigp - I didn't say in his day, I said he is . that means now. current, not past tense. Brown has hidden himself in a league that provides no real challenges to his ability since his first season trying to establish himself at Celtic

dth100 - Duncan Ferguson served time in prison, did it make him any less a player? As did Tony Adams, Micky Quinn, George Best, Eric Cantona, Dennis Wise and Patrick Kluivert (FYI it was a cigar) Joey is a controversial character and that was clear long before we signed him, like him or loathe him, my point was about his ability.

memaself - Your point is a confusing one, he played week in week out, and (a few incidents/ tackles aside) he was a good footballer, you don't need to win things to be classed as a good player (Alan Shearer)

Memaself

Think he has played around 250 games in the English Premiership? Wouldn't say that was nothing.

Too many people are far too easily persuaded that Barton is a good player simply on the basis of his CV. I have only seen him in the flesh in a Rangers jersey and he has been slow, at fault for goals and non threatening in attack. Perhaps he is simply past his best but I cannot understand those who want to dwell on his past record on paper. The guy does not have the ability to wear the jersey on the evidence I have seen, it doesn't matter what his past record was.

What actually has Barton ever done in his career except cause trouble. had a good year last year? Not that good had to move to Scotland to get game time he should be banned by the club contract should already be in the bin utter disgrace to be talking about the incident on live to for the amusement of others. Everyone gave him the chance but has been raised eyebrows since day one with all his talk anyone saying he can come good are on the moon team was looking much better since he's been away no doubt caused trouble in the dressing room.
