A good manager initially plays his favoured formation, looks at his squad in that formation and if it doesn't work quickly establishes what formation will succeed with players at his disposal.
Perfect example Conte at Chelsea. they looked worse than average and now with the same players they aren't conceding goals and are scoring for fun.
MW has to change the shape to fit this group of average players ASAP or it will cost him his job!
The team is crying out for a 3-5-2.

{Ed001's Note - you do know Conte did the opposite right? His favoured formation is the 3-4-3/3-5-2 they are now playing. He bought players specifically to fit that system in the summer, which is why he was able to switch over to it.}

I hear u Ed . my point was he tried a formation then changed it to fit his players he had. MW is stubborn and I can't see him changing formation any time soon as he will stick by doing Plan A better! 1 trick pony.

{Ed001's Note - understood mate, just thought I should point it out, in the interest of accuracy. I do agree that is one of the things held against him at Brentford.}

Why did he sign Joe Garner if he's not wanting to change formation.
