I've read Davie Weir's interview in today's Daily Record. He states that Mark Warburton has an eye for youth and developing them then selling them on. Why then won't he give our own youth a chance? I can hear the anti-youth brigade moaning again but what, I ask, do you have against Warburton blooding some of our own kids? Some of Warburton's buys have been questionable to say the least and none of them ever seem to be fit! Crooks is out on loan and so is Hardie. Waghorn was good in the Championship but so far hasn't shown he has made the step up in level.

Doiger, what youth would you give a chance to and why?

I think we need to trust warburton and if he feels our youth players are ready and capable then they will be given a chance. i'd love to see our own lads get a chance but they need to be worthy. remember warbs and davie do attend development games and training of development squad as they are not like previous coaches.

Hardie and Thompson are out on loan to Championship teams to prove their worth and they're doing ok, but not enough to suggest they'd be good enough for the first team when every game is crucial. Burt and Gilmour too young/ physically not developed enough for first team. If they were better than what we've got, they'd be in the team.

only show why have a 10 million pound complex like murray park if your not going to even give a couple of guys the last 10 or 15 minutes in games build there confidence and give them a run out in front of 50 000 bears

Dodger

We would all like to see youth players given a chance.
Liam Burt and David Bates are probably the most likely to be integrated into the first team squad but can you think of any other players?
The priority this season in my opinion is to secure 2nd in the league which will give us European football next season and hopefully we have a good run in the Scottish Cup.

What a load of absolute tosh some people are writing about our youth players. I say again that Everton played an 18 year-old and a 19 year-old on Sunday against Man City and look what they did! If you are good enough you are old enough. How long do these 'youth' players stay out on loan? 10 years? Burt has been with Rangers for some time now. I've advocated before giving Burt and Hardie in particular a run in the first team squad. Goodness me, given some of the inept performances from so-called experienced players like Halliday, Kiernan, Waghorn and others how could they be worse! We might just unearth another star if we give youth a chance. Mackay has proved the young players can break through as he is arguably our most creative player now.

Queens11, Murray park is a training facility not a youth facility. Doiger, Mckay was great on loan, our current bunch who are on loan aren't doing that good, except from Kelly.

DOIGER I notice the development game this week we will be playing guys as young as fifteen against Celtic who will be playing some of their fringe players I would love to see a bunch of young players in the squad but the cowboys who were in charge of our club prior to this board all but shut down Murray Park the decent young players we had left we had to start from scratch it will take time to see these guys come through some will not make it we need to accept where we are it will be a slow journey back there is no sugar daddy ready to plough in a fortune the board we have now have already put in over £20 mill we run at a loss so they will have to put in more the fear of them reaching ten in a row is adding pressure we may just have to accept it we are miles behind we need to get second if we do its progress at least then we can build but what we can't do is depend on potential good young kids their time will come if they are good enough

Onlyshow - where did McKay do "great on loan"?

He played a combination of 41 games for Morton and Raith, scoring a total of 4 goals with ten assists.
Hardly great reading.

I do believe that age is only a number, IF the player is ready: Danny Wilson, Barry Ferguson, Alan Hutton, Chris Burke, Rhys McCabe, Jamie Ness, Gregg Wylde - these players (playing in a better team albeit - were ready, and more importantly were good enough. I haven't seen an awful lot of our Unders games this season, but surely, if they were good enough, they would progress.

Derek johnstone Derek Ferguson Billy Davies were all 16 when they broke through.

Burke? McCabe? Ness? Wylde? These guys were never good enough! Does anyone honestly think any of our current youth are good enough?! Seriously! And if they were why would the management even hesitate and not put them in?

The cooler king

He is on loan at Raith Rovers however at St Mirren he struggled along with the rest of the side

Would you put him into our starting 11? Would anyone on here?

It is quite an inducement if we are saying that none of our youth are good enough to be given a chance for the first team because I for one can think of three or four of our first team squad that are abysmally poor in this league. Surely young Burke warrants an opportunity as does the young lad from Raith Rovers and when he is sixteen I would like to see Gibson drafted into the first team squad as well.

I just cannot believe that we do not have better youngsters with more potential on our books than Halliday Holt and Kiernan although at least Hold does have age on his side and with the right coaching he might improve.

Coolerking:

Jamie Ness played really well, granted, next to better players, and in my opinion was better than Macleod - as was McCabe. Burke only struggled due to injury and illness - he is probably the last out and out winger that we have had that can turn, dribble and cross.

We simply don't have youth players pushing hard enough and knocking on the door which is a pretty damning statement for Murray Park and its staff that the last decent player we produced was Lewis Macleod.

I agree we don't have the youth players ready to break into the team like Ferguson or button did
