I see the Daily Record have made an article about Scotland's "pathetic" tv deal. From what I can see there is nothing pathetic about it, the deal very much represents how poor Scottish football is.

With that mentality, will it ever improve? Why would anyone invest in something where its core audience constantly undermines it?

{Ed001's Note - in any business, it is not up to the audience to improve it. In fact audience dissatisfaction is usually the catalyst to changes.}

The fact of the matter is, outwith the oldfirm the demand is just not there for it. It is as pure and simple as that and onlyshow is correct. The demand is not there because of the standard of the games on show. That's not a poor mentality. It's the truth.

If we continually talk ourself down then we will never get investment. We have some seriously rich people involved with our clubs i think if all those people put some cash in a pot to sponsor ourselves we would be more likely to get outside investment as we are showing that we are willing to invest in ourselves. It's like going to the bank for 100% mortgage or going in with some savings the bank will lend if you can show you have something to put in too.

I think the teams with large fan bases should be rewarded because TV coverage of their games comes with atmosphere. A near full house at Easter Road or Tynecastle can be great entertainment irrespective of which league and both teams are entertaining. We can't just say everything about Scottish football is 'rank rotten', it's not and you could sell a package of our best supported clubs. I admit that seeing a St Johnstone vs Ross County with a near empty stadium is awful viewing but let's admit to that and hand pick a package worthy to appeal to a large TV audience and sell it for big bucks. All teams playing will benefit.

I don't watch football for the atmosphere. I watch it to be entertained and Scottish football doesn't do that.

Ed001 True, but it's hard to sell a product to a broader market when your current customers only leave bad reviews!

{Ed001's Note - then you improve the product and get better reviews.}

BlueIsTheColour, don't bad reviews lead to improvements? if we only talk about the good we will never fix the bad.

Fair play lads. I agree Scottish football's in a bad place currently, but I can't agree that us slating it is the solution. I actually thought the DR made some decent points and are trying to fight our corner, when it seems noone else will!

9.) 30 Mar 2017
30 Mar 2017 14:44:19
The product is GASH unless one of the old firm is playing and even then it's only just tolerable.

Blue, which points did you think were decent? just out of interest.

30 Mar 2017 14:42:30
why have we had no big changes then edd we have been dissatisfied for year now and its not air to say we aren't worth more than the deals we get its all about undermining scotland as we have players up here who have went for pennies compared to much much worse players going for millions more down south so yes my friends it is a poor reflection of the value of scottish football and when u look at the likes of porto who have their own individual deal with broadcasters make so much more money and have less fans than us worldwide

12.) 30 Mar 2017
30 Mar 2017 14:58:13
In many ways the atmosphere is what makes football so disagree with previous comments.

James, don't see your point about fans. Rangers fans outwith the UK are a pointless fact. they don't affect TV income from BT and SKY at all. Besides Porto are a very attractive team to watch, Rangers (or any Scottish team) aren't.

This all stems back to that Setanta deal when all the wee diddy clubs wanted an equal share without providing any of the audience.

15.) 30 Mar 2017
30 Mar 2017 20:04:21
Scottish football is far more entertaining than most. And I agree with Dawson it's because every team bar us and celtic would rather take 10 million of setanta than 40 off sky, guess the sfas calculator was broke.

16.) 30 Mar 2017
30 Mar 2017 20:38:54
All the clubs in Scotland are diddy clubs.

That we receive £18.75M from the TV deal, while the EPL receive £1.71 BILLION. That's 1% of what they get. Watford got more cash just from selling Ighalo than our entire league receives from what should probably be the biggest income source! If that doesn't seem an imbalance to you, then we can enjoy talking about the poor standard for as long as Scottish football survives for.

EPL is a very competitive league with a lot of very good players. It's a very attractive league to watch, I will say the cost per season is ridiculous however it is in demand. There is no imbalance at all that Watford got more for Ighalo than we do for TV rights. TV Rights are based on 1) Demand 2) Quality Scotland has neither, so we get less. The EPL has both so gets a LOT for it, thus meaning teams can command more for their players.

Ok onlyshow, I've had enough mate! You can have your opinion, I'll keep mine.

Fair enough Blue, to be honest you sound like a guy in my work. "Scottish football gets a dreadful TV deal, we deserve more. " Fair enough that's your opinion but what the hell is it based on? The article the dailyrecord put up does nothing but show how pathetic our standard of football is. Compare us to the other 17 countries in the table and we have the WORST quality out of the lot, meaning our "pathetic" TV deal is very very fair. "All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated and well supported in logic and argument than others"

onlyshow the english league is only that good because of the money they make from tv deals.

they have more money they can buy a better class of players and whilst i agree its a better tougher league that should be on more than us we are still being dealt a bad hand by the broadcasters mate.

no way should we get less money than that of the league one sides down there, no way should we be getting less money than that of the danish league or the league in greece.

scottish football is a lot better entertainment than those leagues in my opinion and rangers and celtic are bigger names and our men in charge should be getting closer to the 80 million mark rather than 18 it is offensive to be getting the worst deal in europe when we have teams like rangers and celtic and those games minimum 4 a year are the second most watched sporting events in the world after a once a year superbowl! we are getting bumped end of!

English championship is the fifth most watched in Europe behind all the major European leagues and I have watched a few of the games. You get like 3-3 draws that if you take out the goals the game would be the most boring game of football ive watched and that's the best of them.

I don't get how people continue to watch that dross and to be honest I love watching Scottish football it's fast and some teams play great stuff like hearts and obviously old firm but Ito the same as every one of the major leagues it's fast great entertainment but u do get the odd dross 0-0 but you name a league that doesn't and I think people that stag the Scottish game then watch English league pish needs a reality check.

I'm afraid another thing i'll touch on is the business model of Scottish clubs they need to get their hottest talents signed up on good 4-5 year contracts and then if they get good offers they have to accept them and also I'd like to see the clubs buy off of each other.

I don't mean rangers and that lot buying all the best players I mean all clubs buying off of each other and that would keep the money in Scottish football and not getting free bees from lower league in England that's my view on this :)

James Stirling. The danish league and Greece super League are better than ours. If either Aberdeen or Rangers were put into either of those leagues next year they'd be lucky to finish in the top 3. League 1 down south again is better quality than the SPFL. most if not all League 1 sides would be capable of finishing top 6 each year in scotland.

Scotlands produces no where near the quality to get £80mil per year. I agree due to having the old firm we should get atleast 30-40 per season but that's about it. I still reckon quality wise we deserve £19mil per season, but the bonus of now having 4 old firms per season does make it now worth 30-40.
