The boy can't be that bad if we've had 3 clean sheets when he's played! His confidence will only grow

Stu is blue

He has looked a bit nervous and shaky in possession of the ball but he has done well however it's one thing keeping clean sheets against Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and Partick Thistle but another keeping a clean sheet against Celtic

Are u for real Caw1. The two lads have been a great at the back. Stability and do the simple stuff well. Who else would u play? Kiernan? Hill is not the answer and will be gone in two months.

I thought the young boy has been tremendous. Too many on here want ourselves to fail. We are rangers supporters so support! The last two games the boy has been solid I think some aren't watching games but instead read match reviews off the Internet or BBC who have their own agenda of doom when it comes to us, me I'm maybe blinded by love when it comes to this club but if I where to think about it I'd go for the boy who has played all month and been a part of a defence that has kept clean sheets over the guy who has been out injured a day I can remember being in a side that had three clean sheets in a row or defeated a top four side away from home, but we are all entitled to an opinion but surely when all you do is spout negative crap and abuse at the team you support do you ever think that you could be crossing a line as this isn't support would you effectively not be a supporter, just a thought

What games have you been watching. Bates has been solid? The Bates boy has been really nervous in all the games and nearly sold a few goals. On the other hand Clint hill has been on of our best players this season. I'd take hill for the old firm.

@bengy25 - none of our regular centre half's have keep clean sheets against Celtic this season so what's your point?

Union Jack

If you read what the posters have said on this thread you will see a lot want Bates to keep his place as he has played in a defence that has had 3 clean sheets. I pointed out that it's easier to have clean sheets against those teams than it is against Celtic. I also said that I feel he has been a bit nervous and shaky in possession. I think the Celtic strikers would take advantage of this and would punish us. I'd rather Hill played as he played well in the last game and he is a goal threat

Can't believe the negativity towards bates! We've now had three clean sheets on the trot. One being at the sheep which if Warburton was still in charge would never of happened as he would of had his golden boy kiernan on the team sheet. I would be more worried against celtic if bates wasn't playing! As union jack said what has our previous defence done to warrant at start against celtic? And it doesn't matter if we conceded against them, it's goals that win you games and I'm more worried about going forward. What I mean is if we do concede it doesn't mean bates shouldn't be in the team. He's still learning. I'd start dodoo and miller in a heartbeat. Garner concentrates to much on wishing he was part of ufc and waggy is a bottle merchant! Keep everything tight and we definitely have a chance. We've already shown we can match them on the pitch. Would make my year if we could put a stop to they're treble chances. The old firm nerves have started already! 😱

Bit harsh on Bates. First two games the boy was nervous when he had the ball, he made a few bad first touches and wayward passes. yesterday i can only think of the first 5 mins when he made a mistake. Defensively i think the boys been doing just as good as hill and kiernan. Yesterday you could see his confidence was growing when he was stepping up to the halfway line to win the ball.

Why do people think Bates is Bad! If he and the team managed to get 3 clean sheets in a row it's obviously because the defence is doing something right!

Caw1, give young bates some credit! Like stu-is-blu says he can't be that bad with our recent run of clean sheets, something we couldn't do under warburton! He's still inexperienced and young and had the odd wobble but he's a good no nonsense centre half! Have some faith in the boy as his performances in general have been good!

Last time we played them we only conceded 1 and our centre half scored the equaliser. The point is I'd rather have Hill than Bates. Hill was superb in the last old firm game and can pop up with a goal

How come as soon as you take off the blue tinted specs you are 'negative'? Bates is doing okay, he's had a respectable but nervous couple of games, I hope he goes on to be a good defender for us. But there's no way he's ready yet to go up against the mhankies, a bad game could set him back months.

How come when fans are excited and optimistic about a player other fans suggest there's a blinkered bias?

Is it not cause to be encouraged by 3 clean sheets in a row, particularly the clean sheet against Aberdeen just after they came off the back of hammering Dundee. Hill has been OK but with all due respect he was the best of a bad bunch under Warburton but our defence has improved without Hill so don't see any reason to change what's clearly working.
