Right, loads of folk moaning about our transfer business over the last couple of days.

We brought 11 players in with 3 being loans and lost 13 I think with 2 or 3 being loans.

Personality I think we needed another centre half but we have 4 so we can get away with that.

Man for man we are better than we were last season, we just need to gel and quick.

In January sign up walker and McLean on pre contracts (maybe a small fee will get them in January)

See how the 11 new guys look and make a decision on what areas we still need to strengthen and look into more pre contracts of players who will improve our squad.

All of this plus make 2 signings of players round about £2.5m. This has to be a long term project (2 seasons) .

If we go into next season with the squad we currently have plus walker and McLean (free transfers) . one more good free transfer and 2 players round about the £2.5m Mark we will have improved massively again.

I'd expect us to have a team capable of putting up a decent challenge for the 2018/ 19 season and a team capable of winning the league the season after. I know a lot of bears won't accept that but look where we were even last season in comparison to Celtic getting champions league and £60m over two seasons.

Why the hysteria over two bang average players? I agree we need to keep adding one or two in every transfer window, but they have to be better than we have or be able to take us to a higher level. Ordinary SPhelL players won't do that.

Very good and sensible post Stuart, I couldn't agree more. As supporters we must realise where our club is financially and that we must cut out cloth accordingly. We don't have the resources to compete directly with Celtic, but with sensible management from the board, the DoF and Pedro over the next few windows, then I'm sure we will be back competing for the league title before long.

F that, just bow down to the anti rangers brigade no chance. We demand results on and off the park. Most on here are becoming used to the idea we are sheite. Either get us investment or sell to someone who has some financial clout behind them and there money isn't being kept by a government body due to fraud.

Big Sam. Not only do we need players capable of taking us to the next level but we also need guys who know the league well and know they need to dig in to get results. If we sign walker for free in my opinion we will be signing the best winger in the league out with Celtic and if we sign McLean we will be signing the best midfielder out with with rangers and Celtic. In order to have a squad capable of competing at domestic level and getting into Europe (properly) we need this type of player and the fact they will be free and are rangers fans makes it better.

I'm 31 and have been a season ticket holder for 16/ 17 years so I've been going through the glory days and the real dark days but I just don't understand what some of our fans want? In the past we've signed the best players from aberdeen and hearts and hibs etc so why is it now these players aren't good enough?

Listen guys, let the new DOF settle in and start our scouting system and use his connections. I would hope by January 2018, we have forgotten about Walker and McLean and have sourced great young talent that we will sell in a few years for a lot of money. Our challenge of smeltic with either of those guys wouldn't have made a difference. They are average players in a below average league.

StuartAC I think we both want the same things for our club and our team. But I don't think it will happen by signing this calibre of player. Of course we signed players from other Scottish clubs in the past - the ones that were good enough. I had 30 years experience as a scout and I just don't see where these players would take us. Walker is no Neil McCann, for instance, and McLean is maybe the eighth or ninth best midfielder in the SPL, a poor league at best. I don't understand why some fans think they would bring improvement just because they're Scottish and have played in this league for a few seasons. Actually it begs the question why are they still playing in this league when others of genuine ability (Robertson for instance) have moved on. It wasn't all that long ago we were fielding teams with no Scots, 11 players who didn't 'know' the league and who came from all over the place. Native 'knowledge' will never be a substitute for talent. If I'd still been scouting (long time retired! ) the only players that would have interested me in the past couple of years from a Rangers first team point of view would have been Robertson and Armstrong. The rest had too many 'maybes' about them. All the best.

StuartAC

Are you not a bit concerned about the strikers? Miller and Herrera have never been prolific scorers, Hardie is untried at this level, Morelos has done well and looks a find however if he gets injured we are bang in trouble

Big Sam I agree 100% when we were fielding a team of no Scots we had international class players capable of playing at top EPL sides. In the current market how much would Numan, gio, de boer, tugay, amo, Reyna, arteta etc etc cost. Even at the time these guys were playing for decent if not great teams around Europe.

What we really need to do is adopt the Celtic approach to find a van dijk or a wanyama but every £2m spent on that type of unknown player there's another 5 or 6 players at £2m who don't reach the same potential.

Sparky I agree with you also to an extent but let's give Herrera a bit of time. He's got his first goal let's see if he can kick on. I'm sure most teams have the same problem that if their best striker gets injured they won't score as many goals.

Sorry for the long post guys.

Also fod the prod we play in Scotland. No one is ever going to invest millions into scottish football. We need to find "gems" at a couple million at most. When you start looking at £5m players you start paying over £30k a week and we won't be paying that sort of wages until we get champions league football or until scottish football somehow gets major investment which doesn't look like happening any time soon
