Dear Steven,

Welcome to your first real day in the job and congratulations on both the victory and the measured post match comments.

A couple of points I would wish to make:

1. Honeymoons at Rangers do not last long. The ripples of anxiety last night should not be confused with tension at a new team bedding in, but exasperation with what we have witnessed too often - pedantic build up play and an inability to take chances.

2. On the latter, our frustration with Windass and Morelos was palpable last season. I have chosen to hold fire on judgement of both hoping that lack of experience, tiredness and youth might give way to signs of improvement under a new regime. There was no evidence of this last night and our lack of creativity and goal scoring is a debilitating legacy of the Warburton era that has never been addressed since his departure. We do not want to hear post match laments of possession and wonderful play not being translated into goals and results. We've heard that before. Morelos and Windass should be moved on and greater potency must be sought.

Wishing you wisdom in what remains of the transfer window. and budget!

I continue to be disappointed by Murphy. He is far too soft and lacks any grit, determination or bite when trying to hold off defenders or win back possession. He looked like a soft touch last season (particularly against our main rivals, Celtic and Aberdeen) and they now know it. I think he has established a reputation in Scotland for being someone who can be bullied out of a game, not good

Awg72.I will leave team talks, selection, tactics and motivation up to Mr Gerard rather than you. if that's alright with you. To be fair, you are right, we were not great but he's not going to come out and slaughter his team after the first game.
