So I am a protestant Rangers supporter. My wife is a catholic Celtic supporter. We don't have any problem with this. Neither do our families. Lots of others do! Their problem, never ours! Thing is we get offended by a minority of both sets of old firm fans actions. I detest being in Ibrox listening to idiots screaming sectarian abuse. She hates her fans doing the same. Most of the religious bigots haven't set foot in a church let alone have a basic understanding of the christian faith. I love nothing more than enjoying an old firm victory and having banter with my wife and inlaws. Far more important things in life than religious prejudice :) :)

Hear hear. Protestants are more similar to Catholics than any other group in society. If these people are genuinely religious then they should feel a bond with their Christian brothers. That said I would assume a tiny fraction of those who sing the songs have ever been to church.

I'd also assume they didn't go to school much either.

Yes but there is also a lot worse going on the world. When did society become so sensitive that people are up in arms over songs etc? Get a life. I’ve had bigoted names threw at me in the past and I couldn’t give a monkeys. Too many folk jumping on a band wagon here.

It’s often the small differences that cause the biggest problems. Celtic v Rangers, catholic v protestant, Scottish v English. We don’t have the same lack of tolerance for groups from further afield. It’s sad that it exists and it will take a long time to eradicate, possibly never. However, the more people speak up and point out that it’s unacceptable, the less it will happen and even that has to be a step in the right direction. Rivals not enemies.

the people singing these songs need to remember/ realise SG is a catholic as are his kids so no doubt his wife and both their families also.
not to mention el buffalo, candeias and many others including treble winning captains and club legends.
its cringey and embarassing.

So before catholic and Protestants what were the Scottish.

{Ed033's Note - Scota (where the name Scotland maybe from) came from Egypt originally.
