I'll start this post by saying I'm a huge SG fan and can't wait until season starts.

What do my fellow bears think about SG and youth. The set-up has hugely improved and we are all talking about some of the prospects. What I'm getting at though we will possibly be going into this season again with no youth realistically being starters. If we invest in youth it must surely be in respect of playing regular first team football.

It may be too early in the process or the year to judge just wondered what everyone else's thoughts were.

I've always stated my view that if a kid is good enough then he is old enough. I don't see the point in constantly loaning out players to other teams. I realise the pressure especially now for SG to win trophies again but at least involve a couple of them in the squad every week. McCoist could have blooded a few kids when we were dumped into the bottom tier of Scottish football but didn't.

To me you're right Doiger I'd even say the loans should be to premier Scottish teams at worst how do you gauge them if not.

Realistically you would want 1-2 per age group to make it. If even to get them a realistic sell on price another bug Bear of all of us at the moment. If there's a pathway to senior football then we will have a chance of attracting more talented youngsters.

I never understand this, McCoist should have brought the youth players in, theory. I remember robbie crawford getting booed at a game. And all the talk at the time was complaining about the likes of. ; kyle Hutton and kai naismith.
Barry mckay, Tom Walsh, kane Hemingstone, kai naismith, Lewis MaCleod, Robbie Crawford, Kyle Hutton, Fraser Aird. These players where all given a chance and how many would you like to see in the team today. None for me.

The mccoist point is not very fair mate, the standard of our youth players was appalling back then, I do hope some of the current crop break through though as they definitely have talent.

Whats the option then DR I mean Barry McKay was once supposedly looking at a 6 million pound switch to liepsig.

Do we buy all our players and tail off the youth all together?

I personally would like to see us bringing youth on and getting decent sell ons makes financial sense. It's good to watch a homegrown do well too.

Barry mckay was alright but I think he could have been a lot better and he wouldn't be anywhere near the team just now, for me. My point was the youth did get a chance.
I'd love to see us bringing youth through. The boys from that era where given a chance but where not good enough.

If the youth are good enough then they will play, it really is that simple. The youth mccoist had were not and never would be good enough. The youth set up just now is better than its ever been so hopefully in the next two to three years we will start to see the benefits.

Really don’t care where the players come from as long as we start winning trophies again.

the young lads did win lots of trophys last year and have started well this year it builds a winning mentality great to see that young lads are looking to come to rangers because of our set up and hopefully will eventually play for the first team as coldo says its simple if your good enough you will play.

Imo our young players are assessed in stages. First stage is having a player promoted to train with the first team and on occasions be named on the bench in say a cup game. Maybe some game time depending on the result say 3 nil up bring on for 20 min. Then loaned out to Scottish champ. Brought back again, included in first team friendlies and training then loaned out again maybe twice to English league one clubs.

Docherty is one that has taken his chance, Rossiter, Middleton and McCrorie will need to prove they are good enough to be regularly included in the first team Squad. I believe that Mayo and McPake ect are all at the first stage in their development atm.

With regards to Docherty I believe he is now in the first team squad, it's now up to him, when he gets his chance, to do what Kamara has done ie make himself undropable.

Imo each young player who has potential at 18 is given a 3 year contract, with option of a further year to progress through each of these stages.

Age doesn’t matter I agree with those comments good enough old enough.
The reason they are getting loaned out is to get games as youngsters need to play week in week out and SG obviously doesn’t think he can do that with them yet.
Also if SG played them week in week out and we didn’t win the league or come 2nd it would be you lot calling for his head.
