Good afternoon bears. I thought I'd change the subject from transfers, formations and Tav bashing to a bit of nostalgia to when we were all able to attend games. I'm trying to pass a superstition I used to have onto my daughter who is 5 but I'm now having second thoughts. Heres why.

About 20/ 25 years ago before every game I would have to play a game of FIFA against the team we were facing that day. I was convinced that if I beat them then the Rangers would go on and win. This almost always worked. I thought I was some sort of Nostradamis at the time but thinking back I was just pretty decent at FIFA and Rangers almost always won so when I grew up a bit and realised that the teams performance had nothing to do with my FIFA skills I was quite miffed to be honest. Still it had become a superstition and I never felt quite right about going to the game without a wee game.

So during lockdown I had the chance to reacquaint myself with FIFA. I hadn't played in about 5 years. I then started to teach my 5 year old daughter how to play. She loves her football and is pretty good herself but she was not quite grasping FIFA. However I persevered and this morning I thought "Right, now is the time to pass on the superstition baton". So I set up FIFA for my daughter to play as Rangers against St Mirren. I'd updated all the players so that the team was what I think it will be on Sunday with Itten and Roofe included. Next I made sure that the difiiculty level was set to amateur. Then it was over to her. I thought she was ready. The rules were that I wasn't allowed to watch and had to wait until the game had ended to find out the score. I was nervous I'm not going to lie. Anyway, out the room I went after kissing her on the head and saying "Good luck darling, don't let your dad or Rangers down".

Game is over. She shouts me in. As I walk in I see her wee face smiling and I'm thinking "Ya beauty, she's only gone and done it". I look up to the screen and see the score line. Rangers 0 St Mirren 8. I said "Oh no, what happened? Rangers will get beat by St Mirren now on Sunday. " She looked at me and said "But dad, I played quite well". Lol.

God bless her I felt rotten for putting all that pressure on her.

For those of you that have stuck with this long tedious read I say well done. Please share any superstitions you have before going to the games and let's get a giggle.

Nice story. But bad dad for putting your wee lass under pressure. I’m no one for superstition but touch wood we will win on Sunday.

"Good luck darling, don't let your dad or Rangers down".
Lol, no pressure there.
Cracking story and I, like you believed I was Rangers' lucky mascot, always there when they won and never there when they didn't. I did conveniently leave out a huge amount of games, but what are fantasies without a bit of poetic licence.
This crossed my mind again at my first game in almost 20 years when I went to the Braga game, and we know how that turned out. Maybe there's a bit of magic in old Cletus yet lol.
Great story MOC and thanks for sharing.

I have my first due in January and am trying to convince my girlfriend to call him Cooper (after the legendary player, not the legendary poster on here 😉) . Ed can we maybe bring back the agree button for just a day so I can show her how many back me up? 😎.

Snell, for months we were going to call my son Cooper and changed it last minute. My mate ended up calling his boy Cooper. It’s a thumbs up from me!

Cletus, you get yourself to as many games as possible my friend. It was obviously your presence at the Braga game that influenced the result. If you believe that then its true lol.

Snell, you get my thumbs up for Cooper. All the best when the wee one comes.

I was desperate to call my middle one Lennon, after john lennon obviously, who I idolize. Couldn't bring myself to do it because of popcorn teeth over the way, no way 😂😂.
