Morelos is miles ahead of any forward we've had or any Scottish teams had in a long time. Every centre back he plays against has a horrid time and all be it he missed chances against Hibs he was class. Needs someone who can thread a pass behind him. Grezda is horrible and offers nothing. Ryan Kent is a real miss, just need to look at our scoring stats and chances created with and without to realise. People say Davis hasn't got the legs. stick him in number 10 to find pockets of space on the half turn and he will make a difference. Doesn't need to be box to box to do a job and anyone who has played with him seems to rate him highly. Just my opinion what would make us better for what it's worth.

IbroxJ

1.) 21 Dec 2018 03:30:27
Steve Davis would make the midfield stronger no doubt about it but I can’t see him taking, what would be well over a 50% pay cut to sign.

2.) 21 Dec 2018 08:49:01
Spot on IBroxJ

stuarty i don't see the money being an issue. Davis has always stated he wants to come home at some point and he is already a millionaire so why wouldn't he take a cut to come back and play for the club he loves? and finish his career a legend when stop them winning 8/ 9/ 10.

3.) 21 Dec 2018 10:03:25
Miles ahead?

4.) 21 Dec 2018 11:24:01
Nonsense on Kent, sorry. His stats have been poor for us. 2 assists and three goals for a winger. Not great for 23 appearances. He is too wasteful, and that's kind of the problem right now.

5.) 21 Dec 2018 15:05:08
Have we not been creating more chance without Kent in the team.

6.) 21 Dec 2018 15:14:57
Fair point Bear82.

7.) 21 Dec 2018 19:36:32
Bear82 maybe we are creating more chances but we are also losing/ drawing more games without him in the team.

8.) 21 Dec 2018 20:24:26
There seems to be a myth about Davis that he us going to open up all the defences in the league he's not that type of player. He's similar to Ryan Jack if anything.

01 Nov 2018 23:25:33
Think the players look like they're playing with fear. Need to take risks and move forward with pace if we're playing teams sitting in and trust that if it doesn't work we will tidy it up at the back and start again. Very annoying going back to the full backs being a key source of our attack. I get that it opens the game but quick link up play from midfield to forward should break teams down. We're not suited to balls into the box even if delivery is better I don't think.

IbroxJ

1.) 02 Nov 2018 12:08:13
I fully trust Gerrard to get it right.

However I think they didn't get everything correct in the transfer window. We are desperately needing that player who links the midfield and attack.

I reckon they looked at the games last season and seen how fragile we were at the back, whilst still being the top scorers in the division.

Hence why our midfield usually has 2 holding CM's.

I think personally that although the last few results haven't been that good, we aren't conceding 5 goals like in the Hibs game last season.

Once he gets the balance right, whether that means signing someone in January or the likes of Grezda can fill that role (not seen enough of him yet), I think we will start to see more positive results.

2.) 02 Nov 2018 12:38:38
Agree with that Grant, 6pts from the next 2 league games is a must and hopefully avoid defeat in Moscow. Then regroup during the international break and hopefully we can find a settled best 11.

3.) 02 Nov 2018 13:12:06
Fragile at the back yet dropped Katic after a storming start. I don't trust Gerrard half as much as I did.

4.) 02 Nov 2018 15:39:40
Furthermore, the players are playing with fear because their manager is publicly attacking them all the time now. I don't know if this is the Benitez school of management but it doesn't work to castigate your charges publicly every time they get something wrong.

5.) 02 Nov 2018 18:47:10
i see a lot of these posts, i don't think were all too bad at the start but when we haven't scored we start getting panicked. The one thing i think we lack and i hopefully more people have noticed it. GERRARD is OUR MANAGER, why our midfield not hitting long range shots. gerrard was always one to just hit the ball when they couldn't break a team down and score. our team lacks people that take the chance. seen quite a few times arfield could have pulled a shot off but decides to pass and work it into box.

6.) 02 Nov 2018 19:43:10
Just talking today about Jorge the hammer. On Wednesday we had around 20 shots. I believe it's something he has notice and will sort.

7.) 03 Nov 2018 14:40:48
No wonder they’re playing with fear - the pish they take because they don’t win every game by 5.

8.) 03 Nov 2018 19:47:15
Come on mate be balanced. Lots of posters going overboard when we were on a good run. Got to expect a bit of stick after last few performances. I'm 100% behind gerrard by the way.

9.) 04 Nov 2018 11:19:42
rfcrb1872 the manager just tells it like it is. He praises the team when they deserve it and let’s them know they have to do better when it’s needed. It’s not under 10s where you tell boys they done well when they’ve been rubbish so they don’t start crying.
I fully trust Gerrard and McAllister to deliver 55 within the 3 year deadline and I believe with an addition of a quality midfielder and striker we wouldn’t be far away this year.

03 Aug 2018 23:03:28
The biggest improvement for me this season is that we can change the game. We have genuine talent on the bench to come on and make an impact and enough holding players who can close games out if needed. Really impressed with Gerrard building a squad quickly and not just an 11. I know the loans aren't everyone's ideal but they offer competition and make players earn their place in the team, players can be dropped this season unlike last. I think Middleton will be a regular by the end of the season but need to choose carefully what games so he's not carrying to much responsibility. Would be interested to hear opinions on the chance of more youth breaking through.

IbroxJ

1.) 04 Aug 2018 01:54:01
I think we have to let middleton loose, how can you burn out an 18 year old, did messi ronaldo etc no harm. Give the boy the ball and let him go👍.

2.) 04 Aug 2018 01:56:45
Well Stevie g said that he was really impressed with some of our young players when at the training camp. I think when we come up against teams like st mirren and livy at least one of our young lads should get at start. We now have quite a strong bench that we can use if it ain't working out.

3.) 04 Aug 2018 07:34:54
Stephen Kelly and Atakayi could get a chance at some point, both were at the Spanish camp. Middleton is a real bonus as was McCrorie last season, if we can bring through 1 player a season who is first 11 material then we will be doing well!

4.) 04 Aug 2018 09:02:34
Also Burt, Rudden, and Wilson could feature this season.

5.) 04 Aug 2018 09:19:00
Steph n Kelly will be a big player for us.

6.) 04 Aug 2018 09:42:52
Great post ibroxj, for me last season was we didn't have My depth to the squad. When players like Morelos and Windass were off form they were still played which, they performed poorly and then that knocked their confidence and we got into a viscous cycle. I believe this won't be the case this year. When players are off form they won't be playing. Which although is good for the club is also good for the players in the long run.

7.) 04 Aug 2018 10:13:19
Wilson away to forfar.

8.) 04 Aug 2018 14:01:54
Middleton must be managed properly. Don't overburden him and don't make the naive mistake of saying 'because Messi can do it mortals can'. This is a talented lad and we don't want to ruin him by overplaying him.

9.) 04 Aug 2018 14:37:02
@rfcrb, nonsense, what about man utds class of 92? Fergie said he can't hold them back any longer so he got shot of 1st team players to accomodate them in the starting 11. I believd paul ince was one of them. If they are good enough let them play. Your argument about messi is absolute garbage.

10.) 04 Aug 2018 14:39:09
And btw it has done ross mccrorie no harm either👍.

11.) 04 Aug 2018 15:17:10
Coldo, this is 2018 not 1992. Pressure on kids now is insane - we turn on them for one bad match. My argument that arguably the best player in history is not exactly a fair way to measure Glenn Middleton. is garbage? Hell even our manager thinks you're talking nonsense - he pointed out how badly McCrorie had been mismanaged.

12.) 04 Aug 2018 15:17:44
McCrorie no harm? Aye ok, other than the fact his terrible performances this season have seen him dropped.

13.) 04 Aug 2018 15:23:03
Can't believe attitude re mccrorie, however with Wilson going on loan I think we need to bring in two ch my one on loan.

14.) 04 Aug 2018 15:38:42
Again absolute nonsense rfcrb, mccrorie dropped for terrible performances, give yourself peace. There is more quality in our midfield this year that would explain why mccrorie might not be a regular. He was a main stay in the team until he got injured. Do you think psg are worried about over working mbappe? If you are good enough then you play regardless of age. There are plenty of young players over the years that would prove you are talking nonsense. Take tierney at celtic, done him no harm👍.

15.) 04 Aug 2018 16:14:03
Rfcbr steady son the boy had been playing with an injury carried from last year so cut him a bit of slack I think this is what the manager means about poor management of him . Youvare on his back yourself already and the boy has performed heroics just to step up.

16.) 04 Aug 2018 18:49:10
MOLSGOALS Ross is NOT injured at all he is 100% fit and has been for months. He wasn’t involved on Thursday as SG wanted as many attacking options on the bench as possible. Halliday covered LB. That was direct from Ross’s mouth yesterday when I took him to meet young Lee Welsh in Larbert.

17.) 04 Aug 2018 19:08:03
Great news LDM.

18.) 04 Aug 2018 20:54:14
No Molsgols, he specifically said McCrorie's use by Pedro in defence was careless. He said an inexperienced 19 year old at the back was poor selection. And that's made his form suffer, as has been playing in an isolated DM slot. Anyone who thinks he's been in good form this pre-season clearly needs to visit the optician.

fwiw I think he has potential, but it's Couli playing in his slot for now and that gives you some idea of how Gerrard is managing his development.

19.) 04 Aug 2018 21:12:03
Middleton is a good wee player and if your good enough your old enough so put the boy in if he earns his place.

20.) 04 Aug 2018 21:39:01
Good news if you are correct and hope you are but was going by previous threads on here obevthat said he might need an op.

21.) 05 Aug 2018 09:01:54
MOLSGOALS he does not need an OP mate trust me he’s been fully fit from last season and done a huge amount of work over the summer. He won’t be used every game but will play a big part this season. An absolutely cracking lad.

22.) 05 Aug 2018 10:19:09
Agree ldm 17 boy I work with knows both bRothers well. Ross knows he won't be involved every week but is a big part of plans going forward.

22 May 2019 03:13:39
Think the only players we bring in should be those better than our starting eleven. Potential is for the academy and they're looking promising. Make our eleven stronger and as a result our bench and we will compete.

IbroxJ

1.) 22 May 2019 09:27:34
Would love that ibroxj but unfortunately we don't have the finances to do that. We have 10 or so squad players that aren't good enough and will be moved on, how much would it cost us to replace those with players better than our first 11? 👍.

2.) 22 May 2019 10:48:48
Gerrard has said there won't be a massive turnaround in players. but i can't see how there will not be. Coulibaly worral away. grazda lafferty all the players out onloan bar a couple. expect morelos to move on, wes possibly, don't think we need anymore centre mids were strong there.

12 Mar 2019 22:36:14
Time to start looking towards next season and bed in some youngsters now there's not much to play for. Have them ready for next year. Has to be a project can't just restart a fresh every year. Would like to see McAllister on the touchline more doing some coaching and gerrard doing more analytical work throughout games. Feel he doesn't adapt throughout 90 minutes if plan isn't working. Just my opinion though but still think we've laid a foundation this year finally.

IbroxJ

1.) 12 Mar 2019 23:36:55
Ibrox j tell me which youngsters you would bed in.

2.) 12 Mar 2019 23:48:36
Definitely think McCrorie should be in midfield and Katic in defence for the remainder of the season, we need to know whether these guys are good enough. I sick of saying it on here, 4-3-3 only works if you have goalscoring wide men, we are simply not good enough to play the same way every week and hope that our players being better than the oppositions will carry us through. We should have a tactical approach to winning every game and play the players that suit the plan. Hopefully bounce back with a win on Saturday but Clarke will employ the same tactics as tonight so we will need a plan to combat it.

3.) 13 Mar 2019 01:51:04
I agree that McAllister could be doing more during game time. I think of McCall in his times as number two at various clubs and he is very vocal and animated trying to get the best performance in that 90 minutes from the touchline.

All in all, terrible period after winter break but keep the faith with Gerard, he'll come good. It's his first stint in management . Huge job for a first job. Give him time.

4.) 13 Mar 2019 04:08:26
Any who are doing well at youth level don't get enough exposure by being subs for experience. Not going to pretend I watch a lot but I hear we have some developing well. Give them a chance so next season they can be called upon if needed.

12 Mar 2019 20:54:44
This is what I think Gerrard considers his best 11. Needs to come up with something and make changes quicker if need be.

IbroxJ

01 Sep 2018 15:50:22
If Coulibaly is fit I think we need to fit him in to the team some how. Not sure who would be dropped for him though. Arfield, Jack and Ejaria all been excellent in midfield, who would be the one at risk. Morelos will play and I think will be candeias and kent or lafferty filling the wide positions. That leaves either flanagan or barisic on the bench as well with Tav right back. Good headache to have, who would you leave out from the start?

IbroxJ

1.) 01 Sep 2018 16:02:56
Coulibaly can be the 12th man, the ref will be too scared to tell him he can’t play.

2.) 01 Sep 2018 16:16:24
flanagan, he isn't natural left so barisic will have that roll. Tav won't get dropped to allow flanagan in and to play him one up means we would need to drop either jack or coulibaly if he is fit.

3.) 01 Sep 2018 16:18:51
I have that same dilemma in my head, ejaria maybe? But he has came on some! I think maybe the tussle might be too much for him, could possibly bring him on second half if all's going well.

4.) 01 Sep 2018 16:59:26
McGregor
Flanagan Goldson Katic Barasic
Jack McCrorie
Tav Arfield Ejaraia
Lafferty

This is if Coulibally isn't fit and I wouldn't start Morelos cause they'll be out to wind him up and unfortunately he'll retaliate.

5.) 01 Sep 2018 17:02:50
jack coulibally and ejaria. arfield should be a sub ejaria and jack side by side with coulibally recovering the ball.

6.) 01 Sep 2018 17:47:21
Ejaria for me has to start against them the morra. He's playing terrifically well and is our attacking midfielder (no.10), who can play intricate passes, to open them up, by setting up chances for lafferty/ morelos!

7.) 01 Sep 2018 18:28:40
No chance mccrorie will start I feel he may loose place on bench to worrall.

8.) 01 Sep 2018 18:55:09
Drop arfield if coulibaly is fit.

24 Mar 2018 01:49:28
Moving forward I'd give cummings a run in the team. Morelos does hold the ball up well and maybe we get more chance with him on the pitch, difference is cummings only needs one anyway, morelos needs multiple. I was wary of playing cummings in bigger games despite his good record due to him not having great upper body strength but he seems capable of holding defenders off and bringing other players into play. I know who's feet I'd rather it fell to inside the box. Curious to hear if people agree cummings should start in the semi. Also think we run the risk of loosing him if he doesn't get Football, morelos will leave as soon as he can, signed new deal for more money, nothing more in my opinion.

IbroxJ

1.) 24 Mar 2018 08:33:46
Morelos will play in semi final, he adds much more to the team, helps set up chances for others. He has missed a few sitters but all strikers do that. Will he leave if we get a big offer for him? Probably but that goes for every one at the club.

2.) 24 Mar 2018 08:38:58
really holds ball up, when did u see him do that. check his performance down south, couldn't get a game because they played one up, its not his type of game. sorry not for me in that format. he had his chance in kili game and was totally inneffective. murty should took him off first and left windass on. playing cummins basically the meant windass had nothing to run onto either

3.) 24 Mar 2018 09:21:44
Cummings is a better goal scorer than Morelos but Morelos game is better all round.
The buffalo is a better team player and makes more opportunities for his team I just wish he could learn to start taking his chances but in my opinion he starts every time ahead of Cummings

4.) 24 Mar 2018 09:51:55
The main reason we gave morelos a new deal, as we all know he wants to leave in the summer. Is to increase the buy out in his contract. let's say for silly talk its 10 million. that's a fortune to us but nothing to english teams.

5.) 24 Mar 2018 11:48:23
Morelos and Hardie up front together would be interesting!

6.) 24 Mar 2018 12:50:38
Ibroxj , the easiest way to work it out is cumming was sold for half a mill, ime sure we will get more for morelos, we paid 1mill for morelos, would any club have paid a mill for cummings? Pluss we are hoping to grt o maybe 10 mill for the buffalo, would an english club pay that for cummings?

7.) 24 Mar 2018 13:00:06
Doiger you have been going on about Hardie for a long time and the truth is the lad is not good enough for the Gers? He will be let go!

8.) 24 Mar 2018 18:39:07
Yately some players mature late and I also think we should be patient with Hardie, once the lad can handle the physical side
he can become a very good player, Def a player within him,

9.) 24 Mar 2018 19:21:55
Morelas and Dodoo upfront would be explosive

10.) 24 Mar 2018 21:48:53
Dodo has no future at rangers

Think he maybe flattered to deceive when we were comparing him to Russel Martin and Bates (People suddenly forget he was murder)
Katic came in against Hamilton away and looked a liability. Joe Worrall is horrific and was disrespectful to the club. Mcauley and goldson best pairing and clearly the 1st choice moving forward. Experience at the back is critical to any successful side bar n.

Profile we should be looking for shouldn't be geographical. Good young Scottish players, European bargains, Asian unknown talents. Irrelevant as long as we're building for the future and developing players. Good management and coaching can make what would be an average player a star. Long term plan over short term fix for me any day.

Retains the ball well, good in tight situations and moves forward. First touch always progressive. Can pick a pass. Covers a lot of ground. Unreal stamina. Loves the club. Improves on his weaknesses. Takes responsibility. Takes the ball in when others hide. Solid captain in my opinion. Ryan Jack soon for me but happy with Tav and would realise what we had if he left.

I've said Ejaria is no use before and been proved wrong. Gerrard has shown that he improves players with our own squad as well as loans. This makes us a good option for young talent on loan and also gives us a chance of improving players and getting big fees. To me that proves the benefit of gerrard coming direct from an academy job. I think kent might sign permanently as although he's a great wee player I don't think he's Liverpool standard.

He didn't state Tav is on Bale's level, just that it can be the making of a player finding their right position. Why could Tav not play in midfield? Tidy on the ball and decent pace and energy.

Disagree with every part of this post. No progress? We have a team containing leaders who aren't scared anymore. We were a team of s bags last year who curled into a ball at one down. What would the score be at Celtic park with ten men last season? Were closer than you think I reckon. Depth of squad won it this season but combined eleven were as good. One window away I really believe 19/ 20 is ours.
