I said on here at the start of the season that a 3-5-2 is the formation that best suits the personnel we have at the minute. Full backs who can't defend, poor centre half's, often overrun in midfield and a centre forward who has to knock his pan in in order to press opposition defenders when they're in possession. A simple change of system addresses to some extent all of these issues.

It's only taken until half an hour into the last game of the season but said system change saw us go from 3-0 down to 5-3 up away at a good side. And we didn't look vulnerable until young rossiter came off as he protected the back 3 well. My point is that while we'd all like to see a mass clear out in the summer, in reality it's near impossible to shift as many players as we'd like. 3-5-2 would IMO only require us to bring in 4/ 5 quality players to show us in a better light.

could not agree more.

2.) 14 May 2018 01:01:59
I agree, we do not havs the players to play the formation of 4-2-3-1 Tav cannot defend at all.

3.) 14 May 2018 01:35:04
Mate formations really don’t matter very much. If you don’t have good enough players it really doesn’t matter where you put them. We need at least 4 really good players through the spine of the team and it will make a massive difference

4.) 14 May 2018 06:40:31
Bear2306 formations don't matter very much, that's hilarious!

5.) 14 May 2018 10:22:37
Wilson0212. 3-5-2 formation was played when we were 3-2 down, not 3-0. I don't believe it's the formation that's letting us down, but the players. Current cb we have aren't up to the job. That will be the main position SG will have to sort out.

6.) 14 May 2018 11:00:32
Even at 3-5-2 we shipped in 3 sloppy goals.

7.) 14 May 2018 12:29:44
Of course formations matter just as a good manager that can change formations and personel to suit the game matters, heres hoping Stevie G is that man.

With Wilson away, alves a cert to be away for the summer and cardoso clearly not fancied, the cb position will need addressed in the summer. Hope mark Allen is reading this because this is the best solution he will come across. Jack Robinson. . came through the ranks at Liverpool and was actually the youngest player to make their debut for them for a period.

Now at qpr, he lost the last 2 years of his career to injury. This year however, he's pretty much been an ever present and Holloway says he's the first name on the team sheet. Formerly a left back, he's been converted to cb and has excelled. Not the tallest for a cb but he's quick and mobile and has the heart of a lion. The cherry on the cake is that we can sign him on a pre contact right now. Thoughts? ?

1.) 28 Jan 2018 01:27:24
I can't claim to know anything about the boy but young promising lads has to be the way forward for us. It stands to reason that signing up young players with potential is the way forward.

2.) 28 Jan 2018 08:07:36
Mccrorie is a CH, we have Bates, will prob make Martin deal permanent, we have A Wilson out on loan that’s 4 even if Both Portuguese CHs leave.
Personally I would like Martin plus McCrorie with Bates and Cardoso back up.
I don’t know the player you are talking about but he sounds like he could do a job however with his previous injury record it probably safer to look elsewhere as we can’t afford another wage sitting in the stands.
Fair play with this post I like hearing of achievable targets that haven’t been mentioned previously 👍🏻

3.) 28 Jan 2018 09:44:44
Sneaky suspicion DoF doesn’t get his info from a rumours page 😂 You’re right though he’s a good shout

4.) 28 Jan 2018 23:26:53
Bates hasn't put a foot wrong for me the Ginger Maldini and Martin my 2 preffered cbs

Had a chat with an ex player yesterday. no juicy information to share, but he did give his take on what's happening at ibrox at the moment. He reckons pedro is up against a fair bit of resistance, primarily from the British players. He reckons pedro is trying to improve the players on a tactical level and that most of his sessions are based on this. The problem he faces is that british players have never been trained this way and consequently dismiss his ideas through ignorance. He used the example of oliver burke going to leipzig, blessed with all the talent and physical attributes you could ask for. Hardly started a game and got punted to west brom with the leipzig coach saying he was completely unable/ unwilling to take complex tactical instruction. The ex player reckons the underachievement of British nations over the years and of British clubs in Europe given their budget, is down to the lack of time spent educating our players on tactics. Compare windass and the Portuguese winger. windass probably more talented but most of us would probably be more comfortable relying on the Portuguese. Fascinating take on things. For the record, he reckoned Pedro would lose his job at some point as the task of changing the whole culture of a nation would be too great a task.

1.) 08 Sep 2017 00:29:22
Wilson, Good post. Could easily believe that.

2.) 08 Sep 2017 02:27:16
Pedro Caixinha sounds like a smart guy maybe he is but when your trying to teach tactics to players like josh windsass and wow rangers tv on the spot tells you everything about him lol not saying every British player is a dumb **** but when you compare the likes of america with there fancy soccer scholarships and Germans national team has every squad player with A+ qualifications, just not enough intelligent British players am afraid for tactics even micheal owen can't even make a cup of tea!

3.) 08 Sep 2017 07:13:42
If i remember rightly i think Wenger had the same problem at Arsenal trying to implicate things like tactics, nutrition etc but stuck to his ways, got some French players in and the English based players eventually bought into it aswell and it paid off for him.

4.) 08 Sep 2017 11:02:59
I like the European philosophy however I reckon it only really works with top end players. A player who relies on grafting cannot be coached this way, unfortunately I'm not sure we have the skilled players who fit this style. Maybe in time but will his methods be given time?

5.) 08 Sep 2017 12:33:41
this type of change takes longer than some rangers fans are willing to wait but i would prefer to give the guy this season to start making us look better with the chance of getting europe next year and maybe more money to spend on players that can listen to his tactics and see them through. this board for me hasn't done anything wrong and has only tried to help us as a club since they took over and i trust they are doing the same with pedro trying to help us be a better team than we where last season

6.) 08 Sep 2017 19:40:00
It all starts at grass root levels. Kids learn quickly and if the right youth development it implemented at an early stage. And continued through the players development then any tactical approach should be absorbed and delivered on the pitch.

See mckays's been dropped the day. Can see him getting punted in the summer. Apparently he's been very vocal about Pedro's methods. Greeting about days off and lack of a summer holiday.

wilson0212

1.) 09 Apr 2017 13:08:16
Get shot of him he's too lightweight for out football and a rubbish bag in the tackle

2.) 09 Apr 2017 16:01:08
Good to see Pedro has seen what we have seen all season and not even put him on from bench. To lightweight with little end product as McCann said pre match 3 assists all season very poor return for a supposed creative winger.

3.) 09 Apr 2017 16:18:08
I recon he's about the same size as McCann just a pity he doesn't have the same heart

4.) 09 Apr 2017 16:49:05
Well where did that come from Bears?

5.) 09 Apr 2017 19:21:30
Just a pity mccann didn't have half his ability.

6.) 09 Apr 2017 21:24:10
Eh? Mccann didn't have half his ability? You do know there talking about Neil and not Fergus don't you?

10 Mar 2017 00:27:40
On sunday i'd line up with a front 3 of MOH on the left, miller on the right and mckay as a false 9. Before I get shot down. let me explain. Miller on the right because he'll work like **** to help tav with sinclair. MOH because his pace will be a massive asset on the counter and getting into the space in behind. Mckay as a false 9 as if their centre half's don't have anyone right up against them they'll play a higher line. allowing space in behind for MOH and mckay to exploit from deep. Them playing a high line will also congest the middle of the park which will benefit us because we can be very open at times.

wilson0212

1.) 10 Mar 2017 08:13:47
4-4-2.

Fod
Hodson Hill Senderos Wallace
Tav Hyndman Toral Mckay
Waghorn Miller

Bring MOH on in the 60-70th minute to have a run at their defense.

2.) 10 Mar 2017 08:55:52
Same team as played Hamilton, minus any suspensions.

3.) 10 Mar 2017 09:00:59
Still haven't forgiven MOH and Forrester for laughing and joking in the dugout when we were 2-0 down against Dundee. To me it shows they don't care, so should never play for Rangers again.

4.) 10 Mar 2017 09:35:58
only, I agree I think the defence would be far more stable in a 442.

5.) 10 Mar 2017 09:46:25
We need to keep Senderos as far from that starting 11 as we possibly can. I was firmly on the give the gut a chance brigade but I have seen absolutely nothing from him to suggest he's capable of doing a decent job for us. I'd much rather have Wilson or even young Bates. Through him in to the Lions den see what he's made of but no, Senderos will be ripped to shreds by their forwards if he plays mark my words.

6.) 10 Mar 2017 10:20:52
Would go 4-4-2 and Wilson instead of Senderos.
Kiernan is suspended.
Hodson at RB and Tav in Midfield.

7.) 10 Mar 2017 10:28:30
Spot on kpblue moh and forester let themselves down badly at dens I wouldn't give them a jersey again.

8.) 10 Mar 2017 11:14:55
Ohalleran is not good enough all he has is pace waghorn is better at everything else i doubt the team will change from the Hamilton game and a don't know why any1 would want to either

9.) 10 Mar 2017 11:36:49
Wilson0212 i agree. Time to be less predictable. Take a gamble. We are written off anyway. I would man mark and double up on sinclair as he is danger man. Also man mark dembele. Get someone to ensure he has no space to play. Murty needs a game plan which is not predictable. let's show some fight. Every player needs' A' game and 100% effort and commitment

10.) 10 Mar 2017 13:19:27
Our defenders can't pick up their men for corners how would they cope man marking 2 of Celtics better players? I hope we do well would be nice to take at least a point off them for the season.

11.) 10 Mar 2017 13:34:02
Only change i'd make is the forced one wilson for keirnan, agree that it can't be senderos! Also have a feeling halliday will come back in but hope i'm wrong

12.) 10 Mar 2017 15:38:17
A well thought out post, wilson0212!Some very good interesting tactics there mate!

13.) 10 Mar 2017 15:28:57
MOH, the guy is a total waste of money. Looks disinterested most of the time either in the bench or more worryingly on the pitch. The most important thing to have on the pitch Sunday is heart and character not skill. Celtic beat us hands down on skill. Murty hopefully will pick a side who play like their luved depends in it.

14.) 10 Mar 2017 15:41:36
I think rangers will sit deep and hit on counter with pacey wide players, I'm slightly confident of taking something there is no pressure on Murty or the players as the league is lost already so I can see us stealing it 2-1. miller and hyndman to score.

15.) 10 Mar 2017 16:09:55
thats just a joke, you don't now what they where talking about and just because sum1 laughs when their team is getting beat doesn't mean they don't care they are probably bored and one of them said something funny so to say you don't want to see them again because of that is utter ignorance.

for me forrester is one of our more talented players and should be on before halliday he fights for the ball sometimes a wee bit dirty but he also runs at people when he has the ball little bit greedy but so are most talented players.

MOH for me isn't being used in the right way and could be a really good player for rangers if he was used in the right wway

16.) 10 mar 2017 16:19:48
id like to think we will go at them from the start as sitting back relying on our defence will be our downfall as our team doesn't know how to do that. also we have no good defenders

17.) 10 Mar 2017 18:42:33
James Stirling
Why is it ignorance to have an opinion, you can have your opinion and I can have mine. And mines is they don't have the heart to be a Rangers player

18.) 10 Mar 2017 18:53:51
True. You see folk laughing at funerals, it doesn't mean they're disrepecting the dead. Though I can see why some hated seeing them laughing in the dug out.

Not a rumour just a suggestion. Richairo zivkovic playing in ajax b team and scoring for fun. 19 year old so fits profile of adding value. 6"2 so offers physical presence and can finish. Ajax paid groningen 1.7m for him a couple of years ago but he hasn't really made the breakthrough. Surely we could use our connections at ajax to arrange a loan with a view to a permanent move.

wilson0212

1.) 12 Aug 2016 21:16:06
Was think the same about getn him on loan wouldn't be permanent because he would cost alot.

19 Jul 2016 22:23:33
Massively intrigued to find out what mw sees as his first choice 11. For me, only Wallace, Barton, kranjcar and MacKay certain starters at this stage. The rest of the places up for grabs. Incredible competition for places. We'd all do well to remember that MW has achieved this in 13 months!

wilson0212

1.) 20 Jul 2016 00:45:41
Rossiter will be a first pick too, this boy is going to make rangers millions.

2.) 20 Jul 2016 07:34:29
If Rossiter is going to be that good I would rather he stayed and made us Champions year in year out.

3.) 20 Jul 2016 12:42:13
Halliday always. He has the heart of a true bear, will never let you down.

Staggers me that morelos is a target for some parts of our support again the day. He was isolated most of the game due to lafferty and Kent being focused on the defensive side of the game but still made a nuisance of himself. Managed to fashion a chance for himself that on another day he might take and held the ball up well at times, most notably in the move that created tav's chance. His temperament can clearly let him down at times (Thursday ) but anyone who can't see what he offers, even on days like today, doesn't understand the game. Haven't heard a word of criticism aimed at lafferty today and for me he was far more ineffective than Alfredo.

Can see Gerrard looking to bring in jack Robinson from qpr. Came through the ranks at Liverpool and looked like making it there but suffered a couple of serious injuries. Ended up at qpr and has come through a full season this season. Out of contract in the summer. A natural left back but has been used as a left sided centre back this year and qpr fans have been raving about him (read their forums ) . Sheffield United apparently sniffing about but expect he would favour joining up with stevie g. Would be an upgrade on John at left back purely for his superior defensive abilities.

Agreed tgr. . watched a lot of Scotland u17s, mainly to monitor billy gilmour''s progress and gilmour, Middleton and the boy aitchison at Celtic always looked well ahead of their peers. Really excited by this one. It's only taken 7 years but finally the penny seems to have dropped that the way forward is to bring in the best young talent as well as nurturing our own to eventually move on for big money. The mccrorie brothers, docherty, Middleton, atakayi burt, rudden and dallas make me feel genuinely optimistic for the future.

Apparently, Walter warned dm off the job because of the financial situation. Didn't believe it at the time but seems legit now. If we were in any semi reasonable state mcinnes would've walked away from his contact at Pittodrie in a heartbeat.

Couldn't agree more. The personnel at our disposal suggests that a 3-5-2 would see all our best players on the park and in their strongest position. Would feel sorry for candeias though. Arguably been our best player thos season but would struggle for game time in that system. unless we could convert him to a wing back.

Call me cynical but i suspect the terms of the retail deal haven't changed. Always struggled to swallow the narrative that a guy as greedy and financially motivated as ashley agreed to walk away from a deal so heavily weighed in his favour. Before everyone says that he wasn't benefiting because of the boycott, he was! The terms of the retail deal stated that the club had to buy all unsold stock at retail price.

When Ashley invoiced the club for the millions in unsold stock and king realised we couldn't pay, i believe they came to a mutually beneficial arrangement. King agreed to get the supporters buying the merchandise on the basis that ashley sold his shareholding. This would allow king to pass the motion for a new share issue to finance the summer spending.

Think we should go to a back 3 now with alves, cardoso and mccrorie. Tav and candeias competing for right wing back on one side and wallace and john on the other.
