McCoist must go. He is tactically inept and seems incapable of motivating his team. None of the players out there look like they want to fight for this man. Please walk away, you don't have what it takes to be a manager of Rangers. It's the same BS excuses after every bad game and I have had enough.

SAD BUT TRUE. This is McCoist’s fourth season in charge of Rangers and he has failed to impress in all four. Yes he had to deal with Rangers’ administration and liquidation. As well as the fallouts from Whyte and Green’s abysmal running of the club, but his time of being given the benefit of the doubt has long disappeared.

However, Rangers’ financial state is proving to be the tipping point in all of this. The Ibrox board cannot sack McCoist as it would be too costly for them to do so. He may have dropped his wage of £800,000 per annum to help the club out financially, but he is still the most expensive paid manager in the Scottish game currently and to pay him off will mean Rangers have to not only pay him out of his current deal, but also all the backdated money that he cut to help the club out.

Sacking McCoist could push the financially stricken Championship side back into administration.

Their financial situation is so dire that they are having to woo the city of London with the promise of riches [on the scale of Scottish Premiership standards] in return for £4 million. Their attempts at trying to raise £10 million failed as quickly as the Rangers fans celebration today.

If Rangers had not imploded financially at their own hands two years ago and misspent tens of millions of pounds since then, do you really think McCoist would still be in a job?

Take a look at another Rangers legend, John Greig, he won two League Cups and two Scottish Cups with Rangers during his managerial reign between 1978 and 1983. But while he is regarded as Rangers’ greatest ever player, his managerial career was deemed a failure.

Greig failed to win a single league championship as Rangers manager and under intense pressure from the terracing, the media and the club’s directors – Greig quit in October 1983.

So what of Ally McCoist, who Greig coincidentally signed when Rangers manager, will he do what is best for Rangers and walk away or will he continue to pick up his pay check until Rangers’ journey to the promised land of the Scottish Premiership is complete?

McCoist’s haul of lower league championship titles is not going to quell the angry mob that is baying for his head and two games into the season already against Hibernian and Hearts – two of Rangers’ title competitors – Rangers fans’ rectums are twitching at the thought of failing to secure promotion thanks to McCoist’s management style [or lack thereof] and his policy in ditching youth players for veteran players on higher wages.

To make matters worse McCoist tried to pin the blame on former Rangers chief executive Charles Green and the timing of his news that he is trying to raise £10 million to invest back into the club.

Speaking after today’s match McCoist rounded on Green, saying: “Whether he comes back or not remains to be seen. I thought the timing of it again… it is a big day for the players, a big day for the supporters and even bigger day for Sandy Jardine’s family. I just didn’t think the timing of it was great.

“For the first time, one or two of the players actually said to me about the timing of all that kind of stuff. Everybody does their level best to keep players sheltered and away from it and we will continue to do that because they have to concentrate on results on the park. Sometimes it is a little bit of a sideshow we can do without.”

While Green’s comments with George Soros have been rubbished in several Sunday papers, the sideshow surrounding Rangers has been going on for longer than Green’s reappearance earlier this week. Dave King and his Union of Fans puppets have been calling on Rangers fans to boycott the club’s season ticket sales to force them into capitulating to their demands – where was McCoist’s comments then?

He kept silent despite the failed attempts of blackmail by King [who subsequently did a bunk] and the Union of Fans having a negative effect on the club’s financial health, their ability to raise capital and caused division among the Rangers support once more.

Under Craig Whyte and Charles Green, McCoist happily rolled out in front of the cameras to sell season tickets to the masses, this year he decided to choose a vow of silence and refused to be the poster boy for Rangers season ticket sales. Was this his penance for back two individuals regarded as fraudsters by the Rangers fans? Either way with 18,000 less season tickets sold this year compared to last year – the boycott has had a damaging effect on Rangers finances much to the delight of the Union of Fans and the Sons of Struth who see this as a victory against a board that was not responsible for Rangers’ woes, during the Whyte or Green era.

McCoist’s tactic of using Green as an excuse is an embarrassing one, as it shows up his lack of man management skills if he cannot get his players focused for the league opener and arguably their toughest test of the whole season.

So why do the board keep the faith with McCoist in the face of widespread criticism and derision from the club’s supporters? Is it down to simply his legendary status? Is it down to their belief that he will come good eventually? Or is it simply down to the fact that they cannot afford to pay him off and they are waiting for him to walk away?

Will the Monday morning papers or the radio phone-ins highlight the pundits opinions on McCoist and his time as Rangers manager or will they simply fob off the result as one of those things saying that Rangers do not have a god given right to win every game? Radio Clyde pundit Derek Johnstone has been one of McCoist’s greatest ally’s in the media both in print and on radio – will he now follow the fans and say time is up for McCoist or will he continue to play the dutiful pundit who just happens to be employed by Rangers also? I cannot seem Big DJ rounding on McCoist on Monday night’s show, in fact I can envisage him defending his former team-mate in the face of angry Rangers punters calling for his head.

Ultimately the decision on McCoist’s future as Rangers manager is not down to the fans, it’s not down to the media and it is certainly not down to the board who are trying to find as many pennies as they can down the back of the chairs at Ibrox. It is down to McCoist whether he walks away from the club he states he loves or continues to pick up a wage as Scotland’s highest paid manager.

There is no denying that McCoist is still one of Rangers’ greatest sons, but sadly his managerial career is creating a love/hate relationship with the fans who once cheered and sang his name. Some players are right for management others aren’t and just like John Greig, McCoist is not one of those right for the managerial hotseat at Ibrox.

Travelling back from my holidays today after landing and just caught the last 15 min on the radio unbelievable, phoned a few of my mates on way home there reaction from being at the game was clueless, useless and Dire and reading all the posts pretty much sums it up!

I thought Rangers were very good today just very unlucky, I think the game changed when Black went off, it left us a little ipeb to counter attacks, it just shows how good a player he is. I thought Temps was a little disappointing today and I hope he's made to do extra training to get natch fit. Chin up guys, a lot of positives today and I'll be surprised if we don't win the trible this season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The trible? Was that not a furry wee alien that appeared in an episode of the original Star Trek series?

Mccoist blaming green for today naw ally your to blame

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Couldnt agree more Mcc the knife!

McCoist trying to deflect attention from the fact that he is clueless and will never be a Rangers manager.

He's fast losing the respect the fans had for him. Time is up. He has to go!

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on Ally surely you can do better than to blame that performance on chuckie, would probably concur if you were playing Mr Green out of position in a 7. 2. 1 formation, we were shocking again just admit that, I would like to think that's the last time we see black in the jersey but very much doubt it, Hearts were no great shakes but still walked away with the points Hibs looked a better side think it's going to be a long season. P'S best wishes Neil Alexander

Sorry but a few words sums it up. Mccoist must go.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 20:49:25
We have a monumental problem here. McCoist and his back team will not resign because they are on to much money and the board (who are a joke) won't sack them. Maybe the best thing that happened today was that we lost. It might not be a bad thing if Falkirk win on Friday either. It might bring hasten the end of this festering boil which we have witnessed for the last two years. Only fan power can sort this out one way or another. Go Ally go.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree if results are poor and the fans get on his back maybe the board will try to appease us by sacking him sooner rather than later, I think Rangers will finish top half due to the size of the squad but I cannot see McCoist winning this league or any other professional league.

Agree0 Disagree0

A few points.

1. How did Law get the sponsors Man of the Match? Considering it was chosen before he scored, I thought he was rank wrotten today. He was anonymous in midfield and too often caught 20 yards away from the nearest hearts player. He was the same against Hibs. Got a long way to go to prove himself. And the partnership with Black just doesn't work.

2. Why does McCoist insist on playing McLeod on the right? With that boys skill and vision he should be first name on the team sheet in the centre of the park where he can effect the play everywhere and not just isolated to one side.

3. When McCoist finally did make a change he took Temps off and brought on Shields. That left us with no width whatsoever so the ball kept having to get passed back towards our defenders. Too often there was no movement in front of Wallace. It should've been Law off for Aird thus allowing McLeod to move into central midfield with Temps and Aird pushing down the wings. Instead it was all pushed through the middle and that suited hearts back four nicely.

4. Why does McCoist never move from his statuesque pose in the dugout? In the last two matches Stubbs and Neilston have been pacing back and forth shouting and berating and encouraging their players throughout the game. McCoist stands with his arms folded and looks like he's got no clue what is going on. Not exactly an inspiring view for fans or players. When Hibs scored on Tuesday I watched him and it took him a full minute and a half to move a muscle! He should've been out straight away barking orders and sending out the subs to warms up to give the on field players something to worry about. It's not rocket science FFS.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Parky send in your c. v. from your analysis you seem to know a thing or three.

The answer is simple. He doesn't have a clue. No idea, constantly plays players out of position and if it isn a long ball forget it.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 22:06:06
Im one of temps biggest supporters but he was god awful today. If he had finished that header, which he should have, we would have won. I'm not blaming the result on him but he was lucky bit to be hooked at half time

Agree0 Disagree0

Ar9 you're right, he continually plays players out of position. Like today he dropped mcgregor, an out and out CB in order to fit in Jig at that position. Now he obviously must think that jig brings more to the team in terms of inspiration etc. So he's finding him a place. Fine, in that case leave mcgregor in defence with zalukas, sit jig in front as a DM partnered with McLeod as the creative force. Have Temps and Aird on the wings pushing forward and then using their abundance of energy to track back when needed. Leave Law and Black on the bench to have a long hard look at themselves. But what do I know. oh wait, last season on football manager I at least won the challenge cup :-)

Come on guys, it was dire today but I rly can't believe there are people on ere saying they would have charles green back, are you serious? Do you not remember the guff this man spotted while at us? The trouble he caused, the money that was frittered away! Get a f*cking grip! That man comes back and thing will get a whole lot worst!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is it any worse than the guff what's on the park? By no means a Charles Green fan however he is right about the manager and the sooner Ally goes the better

Agree0 Disagree0

@1 Stewie, my sentiments exactly. Can it get any worse? and I'm fairly sure he'd have no issues relieving our current manager of his position.

Agree0 Disagree0

Iv thought ally should have been out for a long time now. I think we could have a decent team with a half decent manager, but charles green back? Not a chance!!

10 Aug 2014 16:57:49
Hearts done the right thing when came out of admin&blodded all the youth that looks like paying off. pity rfc didn't go with youth. be lucky to get out this league. lifeless no creative play by passing midfield looking unfit. no width long ball tactics. ally just go!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 17:33:07
It was a decent game, but I'll tell u what, hearts just showed other teams how to beat us! Stop Wallace bombing up the winger, and keep attacking our right back foster all day, easy! Iv been backing mcCoist up on here for weeks, but a canny dare bring myself to do it after that game today, it took him till the 90th minute to take foster off? Total joke, no footballing brain whatsoever in that boy foster, shouldn't b anywhere near the team, the midfield aren't pushing up the park to help the strikers one bit, long high balls into the hearts defence all day, they loved that, they just ate them up, a work in a normal job mon to Friday, and I can spot what's wrong, y can't mcCoist?

Agree0 Disagree0

If Rangers had gone down that road with a real manager we could be a force to be reckoned with by now, but McCoist and his dads army are more farce than force and will struggle against half decent opposition tactically, I hope whoever eventually replaces McCoist can get something out of the has beens and nobodies he has saddled us with, I'm sure the quality players like Temps and Mcleod would flourish under proper management and training as well, 3 years (and counting) too late but better late than never.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 16:43:58
Unless we get rid of Mcoist and the rest of the back room staff we are in big trouble he has no tactical ability at all just stands there and does nothing the team selections have no balance and are sp predictable it is laughable for god sake Mcoist go go go rangers are shocking under you and those other 2 it is totally embarrassing and dreadful to watch come on you gets fans you deserve better than this make a stand now I have been sickened by him and his crap let's get him out before any more damage is done

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I notice in the Herald, Ally is claiming that the 'sideshow' with Charles Green is starting to affect some players. Lucky it wasn't windy too

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 16:41:06
Usual garbage from us today I'm afraid it's going to be a long painfully season with Ally in charge, fantastic poacher as he was he will never be a manager not as long as there's a hole in my arse! Black off Hutton on?? No point in having Boyd and Miller if you can't give them service. Ally has got to go down as 1 of the worst managers in our history the football he wants us to play is from the dark ages and he will be found out this year.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 16:31:12
That was priceless. Let's be honest. Rangers won't win any league with a performance like that. Hearts were far more aware, prepared, enthusiastic and clinical. They responded immediately after the Rangers goal because they knew you were for the taking. I'm not a betting man but I'll wager a Mars Bar and a can of Coke that Rangers will be chasing a play off spot this year. Nothing at all indicates to me that Rangers are equipped to win this league, a league which is now much harder with the addition of the Edinburgh duo. No shape, pace, ideas or even passion. Hearts weren't even playing anywhere near as good as they were towards the tail end of last season and they were playing SPL teams. I don't even think the possible addition of Chico's ten million quid would make any difference. The best difference it would make would be to pay off all the contracts of the playing staff. Why don't you ask Hearts to replay the game, in a one off match where the winner takes the points? Oh. It's already happened. Haha.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A little premature don't u think? 1st game 2seasins ago we drew with Peterhead and won the league, hearts and hubs will lose a lot more points against the other teams thane will, we will win the league, have some faith.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, I reckon we will win it but the manager doesn't seem to know when it comes to transfers, we were interested in midfielder Gomis now of Hearts 2 seasons ago and when we didn't get him I knew that was a miss for us. As far as strikers go, it's a pity we didn't get Goodwillie or even Lovenkrands or Rory McCallister, other players like Skacel and Eremenko could have boosted the midfield, we clearly need someone in the middle of the park, I have felt some of the criticism of McCoist has been over the top and the players have to look at themselves but there comes a time when you have to say enough is enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 15:30:05

10 Aug 2014 16:05:44
what we need in the middle of the park is a john Greig, Scott Brown, Roy Keane, Billy Bremner, Someone with killer instinct and a huge desire to win EVERY ball, can't help thinking its a blessing that Boyd and Miller only have 12 month contracts, I feel sorry for Clark, he never gets a look in, TOUGH season ahead!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 15:50:27
desperate performance today. I thought hearts looked hungrier fitter and better organised. We have too many really ordinary players or to be fair players who we have made ordinary. To be fair Ally did say there was double no chance of us coming through the season undefeated!! I was on the verge of renewing a season ticket for me and my son but that won't be happening until something drastically changes at Ibrox. for the first time in 3 years I really do feel like giving up on the whole sorry situation. What with performances, Charles Green reappearing, Dave King et al disappearing I have had enough.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 15:42:42
Nuff said! Over two home games think we have had 4 attempts at goal! Even you ally supporters must now hold there hands up and say that was awful truly awful this guy couldn't manage a junior team! Why buy Boyd when you don't play to his strengths? Crowds are going to be very interesting! Never thought I would say this but I would be willing to lose a few games if I thought it would mean ally would be shown the door

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 15:30:04
Absoloutly no creativity from midfield no point in miller and Boyd if we can't give them any service

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dire again today but no shock. Wonder what the pro Ally brigade will say now?

Agree0 Disagree0

Unless Boyd scores he ia almost completely anonymous. however the service up to the strikers is laughable. miller loads of heart and works his socks off but no real end product. black had for me a better game than of late but still quite ineffective as to service to the strikers. law once again huffed and puffed. mcleod right wing. why???templeton flatters to deceive. although in the right team would probably be given more of a forward role. foster, why???? Wallace our best player being dragged down. zalukas given time and games will be ok. I think!that leaves big jig. partly at fault for first goal by jumping downwards!ffs.
And subbing foster and bringing on mcgregor after losing the 2nd goal sums up our manager. overall a bit better than Tuesday but it's still awe full.
Where do we go from here. obviously there will be a lot on here calling for the management teams sacking. they signed all these players and if they are not performing then the buck stops with ally. the next few weeks will be interesting.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post bigcol -spot on!!

Agree0 Disagree0

This wasn't a shock today and although Hearts were better I thought they were pretty average too. Unless the manager is replaced the team is going nowhere. As u say what is Foster doing in that team? If we don't have a better right back in the youth team then heaven help us. It would only take a couple of decent signings to win that league but this is beyond our manager as is playing good football

Agree0 Disagree0
