What happened to Andy Murdoch?

He looked a great prospect prior to Warburtons arrival.

I know he went out on loan, would like to see him being given an opportunity soon.

11 Jan 2017 21:50:08
He is at Morton now, permanently! He is bossing it at Cappielow if I do say so myself as a Morton man.

11 Jan 2017 21:51:13
Signed for Morton, released by rangers

11 Jan 2017 21:51:48
Do you mean the Andy Murdoch that we released last August and now plays for Morton?

11 Jan 2017 21:52:52
Released and now at Morton I think

11 Jan 2017 21:54:57
He was released mate. think he's playing for Morton now

11 Jan 2017 23:43:14
He was at an age when he should have been playing regularly and wasn't getting a game. I did like him but can't really judge him for the small amout of time he played for us, maybe he just wasn't good enough to step up to the premier.

12 Jan 2017 11:29:42
If he keeps playing and progressing the way he is at Morton them don't be surprised to see him kicking about at the top end of the SPFL in a couple of years. Morton do a good job with young players e. g. Quintongo, Murdoch, Russel, O'Ware and the Celtic pair Nesbitt and Lindsay. Would like to see more of our players head down to Cappielow in the future. One of the best pitches in Scotland and a good football style.

11 Jan 2017 20:44:58
rangers mobile. newsnow. co. uk thts where i get everything eck

11 Jan 2017 22:55:32
Cheers mate us oldies sometimes miss out on things that we can't get on the wireless!

12 Jan 2017 08:16:12
no problem bud

11 Jan 2017 17:55:35
isee we want to let m o h go out on loan one of the few players with pace and does not get played corect position

11 Jan 2017 18:10:29
Good luck to him but he's colin nish so 1 dimentional its untrue

11 Jan 2017 18:20:16
Quite correct Bigwull, now that we appear to have a couple of playmakers, coming on loan, and it is obvious that there will be no big signings, play him through the middle, coming from deep. Then, maybe we will get the full benefit of his ability.
Also get Waghorn and Tavernier off the wage bill and get a decent dm on loan. See this season out, hopefully in second place, and see what happens in the courts.

11 Jan 2017 18:21:02
Be interesting to see who the 4 clubs are that want him on loan. I really don't see the point of him going on loan to another premier league team unless it's to get him off the wage bill. Feel sorry for him as he hasn't been given a chance or a run in the team while certain players seem to get picked week in week out no matter how poor they play. Dodoo is another who hasn't been given a chance

11 Jan 2017 18:22:19
fergie81

Your being a bit harsh as he hasn't been given the same opportunity as other players who have been poor.

11 Jan 2017 19:19:20
Maybe not but for me just hasn't got it runs with his head down poor touch with little skill yes blistering pace but how many teams can we get in behind to exploit that not many that's for sure so pace isn't enough

11 Jan 2017 19:25:47
He's been given every opportunity and can't even handle the basics like passing the ball. A player like him needs to play every week and he isn't good enough to.

11 Jan 2017 19:48:36
I think the 4 teams are St Johnstone, St JohnstoneU21,St JohnstoneU17 and St Johnstone boys club

11 Jan 2017 21:14:03
Cee

There is no way he has been given the same opportunity as a lot of the players at the club. It seems it only takes 1 poor performance and he is out the team while others make the same mistakes cost goals and poInts yet still play

11 Jan 2017 21:24:22
Bluedie

Didn't know they were all different clubs?

11 Jan 2017 21:45:03
Maybe he should change his name to Barry McKay warburtons golden boy. then he might get played .

11 Jan 2017 23:49:13
I agree about moh sometimes he reminds me of a fast broadfoot running up the wing. He doesn't exactly rip the opposition in half, more like the ball bobbels off the defenders skin and lands lucky st his feet. he is pure speed and runs so fast he can't control his delivery most of the time. that's if it doesn't go out for a throw or corner. Sometimes it looks like he doesn't even now where the ball is when he's running with it lol

11 Jan 2017 23:57:24
Wee joke Stewie but in all honesty he's not bn good enuf and for the poster who made the remark abt Mckay. Behave yourself and lay off the calpol

12 Jan 2017 07:59:51
Bluedie

Your right a very wee joke

12 Jan 2017 08:10:26
I like I would play him more but to play this system you need to know how to play football and he just doesn't. He's been given chances and not performed, he will have to settle for being and impact player or go.

12 Jan 2017 13:28:19
everywhere I look on here its get this midfielder get that midfielder. we have just got two and we are in desperate need for better defenders not caring too much about it this season but for next season i'd replace all cb's i'd keep tav hodson and waldo and tell them to play better

12 Jan 2017 18:13:58
a number of players have been messed about and played in wrong positions by Warburton, and i see he is letting more youngsters leave permanently. The guy has no conscience, i don't like him, i don't rate him and his we'll learn from it attitude, he did well last season, but if you look at figures he didn't do much in the second half of last season except for the 2-2 against Celtic. I feel sorry for all the youngsters who try hard and think that one day they might get a chance? we've more chance of catching Celtic this season than all the youngsters have of getting a game

11 Jan 2017 16:18:21
We need to sign 2 decent centre backs. Hourihane and Hepburn Murphy on pre contracts. Kaputska on loan from leicester. I agree with what I read in here if you get a quality defends er to play alongside Wilson it will brings on his game. can't believe what I'm reading bout mertersacker he far better than what we got at the moment and I don't pace if you can read a game David. Weir wasn't the quickest but he was brilliant and model professional. Get rid of Kiernan (bombscare) Tav (Houdini always for missing) Haliday, Kranjcar, Gilks, Forrester.

11 Jan 2017 16:26:14
Always goes

11 Jan 2017 17:01:23
blue nose i'd love to have mertersacker but don't use big davie as and example as when he played with us our team had great defenders around him and we where a defensive unit that played on the break.
warbs wants us to play attacking football which means defenders need pace its as simple as that big chap. that being said i'd take mertesacker in a heart beat better than anything we have at the moment

11 Jan 2017 17:15:05
James, he also had quality holding / defensive midfield players, not Halliday!

11 Jan 2017 19:43:04
Hourihane isn't going to sign for rangers.

11 Jan 2017 20:18:40
Hourihane supports them and his favourite player is Roy Keane. He won't be joining us.

11 Jan 2017 20:51:02
Mo johnstone supported them and got sent off for spitting at stuart munro then crossed himself on the way off then on the way home from Nantes said "Celtic was the only club he wanted to play for". Remind me who he ended up signing for?

12 Jan 2017 13:30:09
I know that we had a better team all round back then and the whole team where hard to score into very defensive minded which make defenders jobs easier

11 Jan 2017 16:07:28
so guys a striker and we are sorted for second spot!

but come next year we have to consistently be better than the rest of the teams in Scotland i'd say we need a whole new defence as Wilson isn't up to the job and Kiernan terrible and hill is old as grouse.

that's all we need to do but is be better than the rest consistently and let the oldfirm games decide the league which as always can go either way

11 Jan 2017 18:25:09
Agreed we desperately need a striker and a central defender however I can't see us getting either. It's a sad reflection on the recruitment in the summer that having signed 11 players we are still short proper defenders midfielders and goal scoring strikers

11 Jan 2017 16:05:13
i am against young loanees does not matter how much ability they have they lack experience one in ateam maybe ok 2 at a push but no more than that especially in our mediocre team

11 Jan 2017 16:19:45
There are plenty of loan success story's in world football, one to start with is Steven Davis he was a loan player to start off with look how he turned out

11 Jan 2017 17:52:30
steve davis was an expeienced playr not a 17year old kid

11 Jan 2017 14:51:15
Can people not see the problem right now is the lack of goals and creativity from the midfield, hence why toral and hyndman have been brought in, our midfield don't creat enough chances and give the ball away far too much right now the defence is no where near as bad as people are making it it

11 Jan 2017 15:52:19
Correct.

11 Jan 2017 16:03:39
Wilson I see where u are coming from with the goalscoring but we do get chances and we don convert them.
but u think our defence isn't that bad we have danny Wilson who is nowhere near the player he prmised to be when he was younger. Kiernan for me every game if he doesn't cost a goald he almost does and is never a footballer imo.

clint hill good defender and good reader of the game but has a weakness which is his pace and weaknesses have been exploited in the goals we concede.

ive always said it and won't change now when building a team you should start from the back not the front not the middle but the back.

goalkeeper is a good one and we should keep him and gilks if we can as he is a good keeper aswell.
maybe not the quality we have been used to but good none the less.

midfield is rossiter holt halliday windass and now tav aswell as the two new boys which look promising (especially toral) . i'd say that's enough for half a season.

I agree we need to score goals and maybe for the next half of the season that's all we need to get second spot wrapped up.

11 Jan 2017 16:14:10
Aye mate fair point but the midfield do the defence no favours giving the ball away in silly positions Halliday especially, keep 4 at the back with hodson hill kiernan and Wallace and we will be fine

11 Jan 2017 17:01:07
Wilson I totally agree if you look at goals conceded there isn't much in it between the top teams in the league but goals scored we are miles behind Celtic just above half their goals Aberdeen and Hearts have scored more our midfield has been poor they give the ball away far to often putting pressure on the defence Tav simply isn't good enough he is not a defender Hodson is a far better option as for going forward our midfield don't get into the box enough it's no use Garner winning the ball in the air if no one is there to use it so for me you can always improve our defence but it's not the priority midfield and up front is where the little money we have should be spent

11 Jan 2017 14:47:11
i'm afraid my opinion on loaning out our youngsters is not in line with some opinions, i feel that loaning them out to diddy teams with ramshackle stadiums and no atmosphere is turning our younguns into diddy players, what exactly is the benefit? they would be far better playing EVERY week in our under 20 team and LEARNING something
worthwhile
dontshoot me down, its MY opinion, and the proof is in the fact that hardly any of them make the grade by being loaned in this way

11 Jan 2017 15:05:01
McKay did, he was loaned out before and now look at him.

Warburtons approach is that they get a better playing experience playing against older players and pro's than playing against others their own age. Another thing is that when a pampered player from our set up takes us for granted and the facilities they have for granted sending them on loan is a good way to tell them to find another gear to make the grade or they simply won't make it.

11 Jan 2017 17:05:12
Wee Bill I can't agree going out on loan to lesser clubs make these young players appreciate what they have at Rangers I used to be at Murray Park two to three nights a week and I was told McKay was getting a bit big for his boots and thinking he had made it started slackening off they sent him out on loan to a wet and windy Morton now we see a player who knows which side his bread is buttered on

11 Jan 2017 18:18:07
McKay is the exception sadly. Only today another 3 young players sent out on loan have been released. Another example of Rangers not sending them on loan to improve but to get them off the wage bill

11 Jan 2017 19:45:55
You're attitude to the lower leagues is stinking. Easter Road and Tannadice attract more fans than half the SPL. Morton vs St Mirren pulled in over 5,000 the other week. Playing with seasoned pros in a competitive environment sorts the men from the boys. Just as it done for McKay.

12 Jan 2017 15:12:45
Absolutely agree 100% wee Bill. It's what they call a self fulfilling prophecy. Playing at these grounds with no atmosphere, ramshackle stands and half wits bawling and shouting at you is not the answer.

11 Jan 2017 14:26:40
Halliday and Tavernier are the main cause of our defensive problems, Halliday always giving the ball away and Tavernier posted missing at right back

11 Jan 2017 10:59:33
John terry on loan anyone think him and big Clint hill would be good the gether

11 Jan 2017 11:26:50
so john terry and martesacker is our defence the rest of th season lmfao.

we need to get real guys we can't afford to pay these guys bonuses never mind wages lmfao.

but at the end of the day we do need a new defence our is terrible too slow and only one who is only half as good as some make out (hill)

for me we need faster and stronger defenders than what we have, Wilson looks like half the player he could have been Kiernan never a footballer and hill is too old too slow but yet is best of the bunch.

I know where w are financially but surely there must be better out ther for us

11 Jan 2017 13:10:43
Wilson was a quality youngster when he played alongside Weir so why has he gone backwards and can Weir resurrect the player that we had previously. Perhaps if he was playing alongside a more polished quality professional he would regain the qualities that he showed earlier in his career.

Unfortunately Mr Warburton appears to prefer Kiernan although personally I would prefer that we sold him and used the money elsewhere.

The above said I suspect that you know my view that while we have Halliday as our holding midfield player providing cover for the defence we will always have problems and for me the priority, as it always has been since Warburton's arrival should be to find a quality player for this position.

11 Jan 2017 13:35:14
I and most people on here agree we need a new defence but the guy that matters most doesn't seem to think so which gives me the fear

11 Jan 2017 13:37:35
I think young Rossiter could be the answer Tom but the big question is, wil he ever be fit?

11 Jan 2017 14:15:50
Clint Hill has been our best summer recruit.

We have 4 CB. Unless we get one on a pre-contract or Senderos departs. The 4 we have just now will be the 4 that finishes the season.

The defence isn't as big an issue as scoring goals anyway. We need a centre forward ASAP.

11 Jan 2017 17:22:13
Blue die, I agree 100% on young Rossiter. I was delighted when we signed him having seen him playing for Liverpool but then when I spoke to some Liverpool supporting friends the concern regarding his fitness was highlighted and their was a number of concerns that having played so many games for England Under 21s during the summer, he would need some serious rest time if he was to stay injury free. The rest is history.

If we can get him fit and keep him fit I have no doubt that he will be a different class to Halliday or indeed any other midfield player in Scotland in the same position.

For that reason I would be happy for Warburton to 'nurse' him back slowly so we have him for next season. In the interim we need someone, even if on loan, to replace Halliday.

11 Jan 2017 19:54:33
Crooks is a DM and he's fit as he's been on the bench but Warbs obvisouly doesn't think he's better than Halliday which is a worry. the thing i don't get is that warbs says he"ll only sign players that improve the team yet after making 12 signings in the summer he still seems to play the bulk of last seasons team

11 Jan 2017 10:10:08
Apparently Wenger is keen to let Mertesacker out on loan. Honestly I've no had a drink since Xmas day. Chances?

11 Jan 2017 10:14:53
thought it could be a potential move for us, maybe wenger has put him on the market to goad us into asking for him in dire need of a no nonsense towering cb

11 Jan 2017 10:38:53
Wenger said he's no willing to let him go to another epl side aswell. Apparently training with Bournemouth the now. Wouldn't be that surprising.

11 Jan 2017 11:02:22
Would rather have John terry

11 Jan 2017 11:15:49
john terry won't leave chelsea i don't think and his wages would be a major stumbling block

11 Jan 2017 11:43:38
Mertesacke is incredible at reading the game. great defensive player but is far too slow, arsenal got away with a lot because of the pure pace that bellerin has to get back and cover, sadly we do not have that, especially if warbs keeps playing tav a rb. i would never turn away a player of mertesacke calibre but i just don't know if he is the player to help. coming from a rangers and arsenal fan

11 Jan 2017 12:05:52
i would take mertesacker as a sweeper in a back 3 any day of the week alongside kiernan and hill, would be 10x better than what we currently have, wilson is easily up there with one of the worst performers of the season in the SPL this year, he is only good at passing the ball, his awareness and pace and tackling are simply not good enough, atleast kiernan is dangerous in the air and has had some promising looking games alongside hill this season

11 Jan 2017 13:43:40
Good in the air Kiernan? he's scored 1 header from a set play in 18mnths and we've conceded umpteen goals from corners. u no stopped bevvying from xmas?

11 Jan 2017 14:53:37
U want mertesacker as a sweeper and then go on to say Wilson is one of the worst performers lmao. Do you even know a sweepers job?

11 Jan 2017 15:42:00
yeah kiernan is actually pretty good in the air, and you only have to watch a game without trying to pick every negative out to notice this, as for wilson, he literally has been one of the worst players in the squad this season, he has a 50p for a head and is an absolute bombscare, kiernan on the other hand only looks to be exploited when tavernier plays alongside him

11 Jan 2017 20:21:28
ASC-RFC1 Kiernan is good in the air when the ball is coming straight down the middle. If its coming in from the side he is a nightmare. He constanty ball watches and his positional sense is atrocious as is his passing. Wilson on the other hand is good with the ball at his feet. And along with McKay is one of the few we have in the team that can spray a 50-60 yard pass accross the field.

11 Jan 2017 10:09:19
Guys I know we are all looking for a marquee long term signing this window but I cannot see it happening. The two short term loan signings will be a good addition to the squad. They will add a bit of competition to our weak midfield and should help us secure second place and provide a taste of much needed European football back at Ibrox. That then will be an attraction for better players with the chance to play in Europe. Much has been said about King and others around long term investment and the five year plan. Major investment in any shape or form seems a long way away. We seem to be surviving on drip fed loans at the moment and until this mess with Ashley is resolved that is what we have to deal with. The five year plan now involves slowly getting back on or feet, not being reckless, financial stability and ultimately stopping Celtic achieving ten in a row as currently we are miles behind them in every sense. It's a difficult situation. We all want a quick return to the success of the past but considering where we have came from patience is key.

11 Jan 2017 10:42:00
As long as we get good ones in and better than we have this season ansd continue to do ths for the short term.

11 Jan 2017 11:43:27
Not sure if everyone on here understands the meaning of "5 year plan"

11 Jan 2017 13:12:32
BR65, I am not sure that everyone on the Rangers Board knows the meaning of a five years plan!

11 Jan 2017 14:29:27
This 5 year plan people go on about is nonsense! Do some of u honestly think regardless of results or performances we should hive this guy 5 years? I just see too many poor decisions and an unwillingness to see what is obvious to most fans for him to be here much longer. I don't trust him with what little money we have and think the end of the season should be the end of the road for weir and warburton
