13 Dec 2018 22:08:14
If someone had honestly said to me in may that we would be fighting to get through the group stages of the Europa league come December I would’ve taken that gladly. Remember where we have came from and how far we’ve done. Our european run has been good fun when not much was expected.

13 Dec 2018 21:43:35
And the Van Vossen trophy goes to Ajer lol.

13 Dec 2018 21:12:34
Ah well, good run, did better than most expected this season and got a few extra coin in the coffers.

13 Dec 2018 20:57:13
I thought we played pretty good tonight on a dodgy pitch and were very unlucky to lose, all in all a great roller coaster European adventure. Now we can concentrate on the league and look to get some consistency.

14 Dec 2018 07:38:13
Yep, i thougjt we were the better team as well and put in a good performance. Absolutely night and day compared to last season. Remember the number of players coming in and the injuries and suspensions we have had (Candeias could have been key for us last night and should have been avaikable) . At least now we can now concentrate fully on the domestic scene while these spawny reptiles play their extra couple of games. A decent January window and we won't be far away.

13 Dec 2018 20:37:38
Its so alarming how much coulibaly's performances have dropped, since coming back from his injury. Although i thought we played decent tonight, we had no cutting edge. We badly need to sign a creative midfielder, striker in january. Steven davis would be a very good signing for us, as his experience would also be vital for us. A midfield of davis, arfield and jack would be a really good combination for us i feel! All concentration now on the domestic game for us.

13 Dec 2018 21:06:26
There is something missing in the midfield. Could Docherty bring it?

13 Dec 2018 21:12:14
Supercooper,

I have to disagree there was no urgency this evening and we hardly tested their keeper. That now 3 games where we have struggled to create much. We need more than Davis to turn this around. Their was a lack of quality all over the pitch.

14 Dec 2018 00:44:11
Sorry Arthur your well wrong! their keeper made a few outstanding saves. half empty glasses I’m afraid.

14 Dec 2018 05:15:59
What has happened to Middleton over the last few weeks?

14 Dec 2018 08:10:11
Molsgoals. think your glasses are totally empty after that post?

14 Dec 2018 08:22:50
Thought McCrorie was a stand out for us last night, surely should be in ahead of the likes of Coulibally. this.

14 Dec 2018 09:11:03
I thought the sub Rapid brought on 'muellner' was great. Would make a great number 10.

14 Dec 2018 09:01:06
Mols,

What outstanding saves? Every save he made you would have expected him to make. Maybe you should have put your glasses on to watch the game. We showed no urgency in a must win game and I thought lacked belief we could win. We lack quality in the final 3rd.

13 Dec 2018 20:23:44
I’m a bit perplexed by the reaction on here. I thought there were a lot of positives there although again we failed create any concrete goal scoring opportunities. I thought Jack and McCrorie were excellent and shown that they should hopefully be preferred to Coulibaly and Ejaria if indeed he remains at the club.

One thing I agree with tho and if I was the manager I’d have him against the wall by now is Tavernier’s crossing. How many times can he continually hit that first man from dead balls and open play? It’s like he’s trying to do it. I’m a centre half and there’s nothing annoys me more than trotting up for a corner only to see the taker not beat the first man. That’s amateur football, it’s absoutley unforgivable at this level.

13 Dec 2018 21:13:07
Gallant few

Were you happy with the lack of urgency in a must win game?

13 Dec 2018 21:59:48
Spot on about hitting the first man every time. So frustrating.

14 Dec 2018 00:46:03
It was tavs cross that Goldson hit bar with . ga convenient ly nit mentioned.

14 Dec 2018 05:21:25
I thought the manager got it spot on. Keep it tight early doors, don’t concede and then go for it last 20 mins and hope they get nervous along with their crowd. We just didn’t create that clear chance which is what we’ve been lacking all season against stern opposition.

We keep calling for a creative No.10 and whilst I wholeheartedly agree they don’t come cheap. If we want to compete with that lot again we have to close the gap financially as well as on the field.

14 Dec 2018 05:25:20
It’s clear the manager prefers the in-swinging corner which I totally understand but we’d all surely rather see a good out swinger from Middleton or Halliday than Tav hitting the first man too often.

14 Dec 2018 07:42:20
That's true Molsgoals but Tav and Candy really need to work on their final ball. They both link up superbly at times but the amount of times they either hit the first man or fire it far too long is extremely frustrating to say the least.

14 Dec 2018 08:01:29
Lack of urgency and quality but it's not only the players but equally Stevie G who needs to take responsibility. He has a squad but doesn't seem to want to use them as such or when it's too late. Their coach saw something was missing so made early changes and it affected the game. Gerrard seems to plod along and just hope something better will happen.

When things starting going down with Warburton fans were all over him immediately, no plan B etc etc but Gerrard is getting a free ride from criticism just because of his rep, the football was more entertaining under Warbs too. The last 3 games have looked like England did when Gerrard was in midfield. Body language is important and Morelos and Gerrard both look miserable all the time. A bit more encouragement wouldn't go amiss.
PS Leave Tav alone we would be lost without him.

14 Dec 2018 09:04:57
BeeGB,

A lot of sense in your post, but I would say if we got a decent offer for Tavernier then we should sell. Feel he doesn’t really turn up in the big games and doesn’t really inspire the team when the going gets tough.

13 Dec 2018 20:22:25
We got as far as this team could take us. We will get new players in January. And get rid of the dead wood and stop taking in young loaness. Keep the faith in Stevie Gerard.

14 Dec 2018 07:23:37
We got out of Europe what we were capable of at this time. We simply need players in particular areas to create another spark in our performance again. We all know the positions that need filled, so kets hope SG can get 3 or 4 in the January window. I feel our performances of late caught up with us last night. We did our best, but just not good enough at that level yet. c'mon the Rangers, let's lift our heads and move on in this league.

14 Dec 2018 07:43:39
I thought that if we had got anywhere the same luck as the other lot we would easily have qualified for the last 32.

13 Dec 2018 20:06:41
Obviously i would have loved it if we progressed but i'm not going to slate the team we were the better side tonight and we've come on a leaps and bounds. Also heard that ejaria wants to leave because the game up here is to physical. wtf.

13 Dec 2018 20:02:21
A good effort to get as far as we did but not enough quality in the team to go any further. To score 3 away in Russia and fail to take a point cost us and isn't good enough. we need a few in January to kick us on.

13 Dec 2018 20:07:22
Wasn’t just the lack of quality it was the lack of urgency too. Tavernier is never a Rangers captain he again failed to deliver.

13 Dec 2018 20:27:56
Nobody expected us to get anywhere near as far as this but the usual mob are on baying for blood. I’m sick as well as many others but let’s get a grip and have a reality check eh?

13 Dec 2018 21:09:48
Correct sharpshooter.

13 Dec 2018 21:14:07
It’s not a case of baying for blood it’s just an honest assessment of the game.

14 Dec 2018 00:50:53
Honest in your eyes Arthur bit many else’s. We only lost our urgency when they scored . the players were well up for it . credit where due. we are all hurtin but take those negative glasses off and you might see clear good effort from lads were Far the better team. Certainly competed which was promising.

13 Dec 2018 19:57:43
Is anyone else concerned about our steep drop in performances since the season started. We're getting worse with every game. I'm dreading the 29th as play like we have recently and it'll be similar spanking like the last 2 seasons. Very worrying times ahead and I honestly don't know if Stevie knows how to fix it.

13 Dec 2018 20:36:13
Get better players is how you fix but this takes time and money.

13 Dec 2018 21:02:07
SG has only had 6mill to overhaul a full squad yet we got to 90 mins from last 32 in Europa lge. Off course we're not the finished article by a long shot but when Celtic can spend more on one player than our net spend on squad we've got to be realistic. SG has got to be given time money and patience from us fans before he can turn this team round.

13 Dec 2018 21:10:52
SG said after game we need better players, also said it's his job to fix it.

14 Dec 2018 05:27:42
Need better players for sure but what better players are available on our budget? Grezda is getting a lot of stick but what can you get for £2M that’s much better?

13 Dec 2018 19:54:58
Well, after the last 10 days or so, is there anyone left in any doubt that we are a bang average side at best. Great run in Europe but ruined by two shocking performances. Some of those boys tonight could neither pass nor control the ball. Basic stuff that should be drilled into them by now
. Feel sorry for the Bears that spent good money to watch that.

13 Dec 2018 20:37:28
I agree and there also a jaded tired look about the team.

13 Dec 2018 19:50:02
We are simply not good enough. Our play from middle to front is so laboured and lacking in ideas. The number of loose touches and careless passes was alarming tonight. I know he's young and been thrown in but Middleton needs to come out of the team, he can't just run up and down the wing all night.

13 Dec 2018 20:01:19
It was a really poor performance going forward. Lack of ideas and very little quality deliveries. Have to agree about Middleton looked very ordinary. Grezda is just a waste of a jersey.

13 Dec 2018 20:14:47
Ive said a few times Middletons form would suffer, young players need to be kept fresh.

13 Dec 2018 20:42:09
Poor overall performance tonight, although I thought jack and barsic were okay. Middleton was poor but I wouldn't throw him under the bus just yet! He's only a young lad. Wtf has happened to coulabaly? He was awful (again) . I know Gerrard is a young manager but he took ages to change things tonight.

13 Dec 2018 21:11:32
Mccrorie put in a good shift tonight, deserves a wee run.

13 Dec 2018 19:49:39
What was so disappointing tonight was the sheer lack of urgency or quality to even get forward in a must win game. We need some sort of cutting edge in the middle of the park.

13 Dec 2018 19:49:10
Everytime iv seen grezda he does **** all.

13 Dec 2018 19:47:13
We really need some better players in January. Tavernier, Grezda, Middleton and McAuley amongst others are not good enough and will not win us trophies.

13 Dec 2018 20:05:31
20 m plus player in the making according to one poster on here.

13 Dec 2018 20:15:33
Frustrated blue

The entire squad isn’t worth £20m.

13 Dec 2018 20:41:24
Care to name who Frustrated Bear my friend? 🤔😂.

14 Dec 2018 01:14:27
Can't remember but I definately remember someone posting it. Said he had a source in Murray park telling him grezda was the best player at rangers snd we could have a 20 m player on our hands.

14 Dec 2018 10:39:09
Fb u are correct in what you say about grezda.

13 Dec 2018 19:43:55
We could play all night and not score. Not saying we have played really bad but we just can't create the goal scoring chances we need. Desperately need that spark in our team going forward.

13 Dec 2018 19:23:41
Someone please come and sign Tav in January. Watching this game and he is absolutely dreadful. Worst Rangers captain in my lifetime. He can hit a penalty and that is it. Can't pass, can't cross, can't tackle, inspires nobody.

13 Dec 2018 19:47:41
Been saying that for donkeys. He's cost us again tonight with his inability to geta cross by the first man
Absolute Tom kite!

13 Dec 2018 19:49:06
Conplete lack of quality in the final third once again.

13 Dec 2018 19:54:24
Have to agree, in the big games he’s not got it . Take the money and sell him . Big Katic must be wondering what he has to do to get a game . Worral mince, Mcauley past his best. Sick.

13 Dec 2018 19:57:51
Here we go again. 80% of the team were crap and couldn’t pass but blame Tav. I’m not 1 for scapegoats or blaming individuals especially when most were rotten but tell me swagman, what did Middleton or Coullibaly etc have to offer because they were fkn dreadful?

14 Dec 2018 01:25:38
They weren't great either but Middleton is 18 and Coulibaly is on loan and will be gone in 6 months.

Tav is THE CAPTAIN OF GLASGOW RANGERS. That still means something to me. If you think he deserves to wear the armband that Richard Gough, Craig Moore, Barry Ferguson have all worn in the last 20 years or so then that's a sad indictment of how far standards have slipped.

14 Dec 2018 07:39:34
Nobody mentioned the armband except you and certainly nobody comparing him as a captain to gough etc but you are saying he is dreadful. My personal opinion he is anything but dreadful and there were many of our players out there who were a hell of a lot worse than Tav the scapegoat.

14 Dec 2018 12:23:47
I mentioned the captaincy in my original post which you replied to. My point is, you are singling out an 18 year old and a loanee who will be gone in 6 months. I'm talking about our captain. First thing I would be doing is stripping him of the armband and giving it to McGregor or Arfield as they are the only 2 players who have proven this season they can be relied upon to perform at a consistently high level. Tav is an absolute liability and is too arrogant to accept he can't hit set pieces and step aside for the good of the team. If Halliday hadn't shoved him out the way we wouldn't even have taken a point from Dundee as Tav's effort would no doubt have hit the wall.

13 Dec 2018 19:22:29
Coulibaly offers nothing.

13 Dec 2018 20:20:17
At the start of the season Gerrard promised us a high pressing, high tempo style of play, well the last few games we have looked like a team of ditherers on the ball, no pace, no ideas, I hope he has that in mind in January if he's bringing more in. He said last week he knows who he can trust? - hope its a clear out of the ones he can't trust, we seem to be going backwards the last few games, its frustrating to watch at the moment. End of rant.

13 Dec 2018 20:39:04
The loans Gerrard has acquired have been an absolute disaster. That’s no exaggeration.

Can make an argument for Kent but picking up injuries now so what’s the point in us paying a portion of his wage?

I can’t even think of a permanent signing other than the goalkeeper that you could call a great piece of business. Airfield has been good but he was signed before Gerrard came in I believe. Let’s hope the manager learns a bit from this and does better in the next couple of windows but for those calling for a creative number 10 type player - they tend to cost a lot.

13 Dec 2018 17:55:53
I know it’s not our traditional rig but I love the all blue kit we are wearing tonight.

13 Dec 2018 16:43:52
Ross McCrorie in starting lineup tonight.

13 Dec 2018 17:38:38
Good to see the young lad back in the team hopefully does well deserves a chance.

13 Dec 2018 11:19:36
Kent and Candeias are missing tonight so what are the thoughts about the team? We must win or we are out. My XI:

McGregor; Tavernier, Goldson, Katic, Barisic; Jack, Rossiter; Grezda, Arfield, Halliday; Morelos

I'm assuming all the players I've named are fit. Go for it lads and good luck to the team and the fans who are in Vienna.

13 Dec 2018 11:43:11
rossiter isn't in the euro squad.

13 Dec 2018 13:19:34
Even if Rossiter was I wouldn’t pick him. Lightweight with no obvious ability or grunt.

13 Dec 2018 14:00:43
Might play Flanagan at rb and put tav in right mid.

13 Dec 2018 14:50:49
Get Lee Wallace into the team, just because he has a problem with the white collars doesn’t mean we can’t play him, he’s still receiving his wages and no matter what people think of his actions, he’s a good player and could make a difference, my opinion.

13 Dec 2018 15:05:33
5 disagrees but not one alternative team selection listed and now we are turning on Rossiter all of a sudden. Give the lad a chance, he's had terrible injury issues. Tav in midfield is a good idea and a nice notion but I doubt whether SG will do that.

13 Dec 2018 15:18:19
Ulsterman,

Aye that's a good idea, fire a guy who's not played any first team football in a year into a must win European tie away from home.

13 Dec 2018 15:57:21
Rossiter played this afternoon as young Gera beat Rapid Vienna 4-2. Boy Dallas got a brace.

13 Dec 2018 16:36:16
DOIGER surprised your not starting hardie tonight😉 candeias and Kent will be missed big time. I know candeias has his critics but in my opinion he has been outstanding in Europe this season. Great engine.

13 Dec 2018 16:47:08
Very funny Sharpshooters. I like it.

13 Dec 2018 17:22:37
Bear mode 91
Your a touchy guy, has Wallace played in the reserves? Is the defence that good that the players can’t be replaced? Players come in and play to be kept in, but your entitled to your opinion ( as am I )

13 Dec 2018 18:16:51
Don't think it will matter too much who starts. If we keep 11 on the pitch for 90 mins we could have a chance to win.

13 Dec 2018 18:17:52
Ulster an Wallace has played two minutes first team.

13 Dec 2018 06:26:01
Spoke to a lot of rangers fans saying if we don't go through tonight its no such a bad thing as we can concentrate on league! Not for me go win tonight and I think it would be like a real confidence boost so moan the rangers. !

13 Dec 2018 08:48:39
im one of those Bgate, thin k would be best thing for us to go out

dont have the squad to continue in europe and challenge for title. Europa league for me is a distraction with little reward ( this season ) . We are never going to win it, the money isn't the best and you are running the risk of injury which could cost us points in league

take the 1st old firm game as an example, i feel we would have made a better account of ourselves if we hadnt had 9 hour flights to and from russia, played best part of game with 9 men

what would you rather come the end of season, say we reached knock outs/ quarters/ semis of europa league or stopped THEM winning the league. i know what i want.

13 Dec 2018 09:07:38
I’m with you bgate w, go out to win every game, get a mindset, the way it used too be, the singing at Ibrox made the hairs on the back of my neck stand straight, brilliant.

13 Dec 2018 09:13:23
Ulster man well said we should always have the will to win all our games. We are rangers.

13 Dec 2018 11:08:15
It doesn’t matter what competition Rangers are playing in, I for one always want to see them winning.

13 Dec 2018 12:16:53
1. We need the money
2. Were Rangers, we have a winning mentality so go out and try to win.
3. If we progress it gives us more exposure to higher level players that may sign in future
4. Were not good enough to pick and choose when and how far we go in Europe so take advantage while we’re there
5. Going through would be a huge confidence boost and will give the younger players more experience in a shorter period of time.
