I have seen quite a few people questioning Mike Ashley's involvement and what his motives are, and, while I can't speak for him, I can tell you what his motives were in trying to get control of the badge.

Though I am sure most of you have guessed it came down to money, I am not sure if you would have all grasped the full implications of his attempt to take full control of the badge.

It is quite simple really, he would own every piece of merchandise that was produced that featured the club crest on it.

Whether it was a t-shirt made for the club shop or a website which featured the club logo in its design, say a fansite.

Whatever it was, anything featuring the club crest would require his permission to be produced.

I am sure he would be happy to grant his permission, but it would cost money that is for sure.

It would also mean his companies could churn out merchandise with the club's crest without paying the club anything, as he would own the rights, not the club.

So anyone who thinks he is the saviour of the club should think again, he is not looking to help the club stay afloat at all.

His interest is in profiting from it.

But surely the more success the club has the more merchandise with club logo would be sold therefore it would be beneficial for him to ensure the club is successful.

{Ed001's Note - but not if it costs him as much to make them successful as he makes off the merchandise! So no, it is not beneficial for him to spend money on making the club successful. Why bother? The club sells enough merchandise already to make a nice profit on.}

Don’t worry OP. Fans have a clever plan to get Ashley to tear up his naming rights for a pound and generally set him right.

Hassle young assistants on zero hour contracts and minimum wage by wasting their time by asking to buy a selection of products on sale in Sports Direct by offering a pound.

Seriously, I do think Craig Houston is probably our best fans spokesperson but that must be the saddest protest I’ve ever seen. Truly cringeworthy.

Agreed Ed he would make a tidy profit on the merchandise as it stands but think how. much more profit he could make if he had merchandise to sell with Rangers SPL champs on it ,Rangers Scottish cup winners or Rangers champions league on it

{Ed001's Note - you could say that even more about Newcastle, if they did well in the cups or league, but he still doesn't spend any money on them. He never spends any money on anything, it is about minimising costs, not investing, that is how he works.}

Op ed001 i wonder why true rangers supporters won't believe anybody that tried to tell them of ashley and his ways of screwing rangers fc just like his mates charlieboy easdale and these secret shareholders ;his involvment with rangers will be to take take take like he does at newcasutd I've also read he would love to take more money from sd but other share holders block him from doing so

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, he has been blocked from paying himself a huge bonus on a number of occasions, by the other shareholders. It happens on a regular basis.}

Ed i also think if ashley was here for the good of the club we should not have had to borrow from sleasdale and mr latham eh ashley should have offered loan under the same rate getting himself a foot in the door but no he is here from what he can get for himself

I get that gkk but my point was sat was booked in on the officials fixtures released at start of season by the spfl as a date for petrofac challenge cup matches so as we're still in the cup I assume we wouldve played the cup tie before league game as livingston v stranraer did on Sunday.

That was semi-final weekend, but we haven't played our QF yet, because of earlier postponed games. Those pesky international weekends
