Use our rumours form to send us rangers transfer rumours.

14 Mar 2014 20:49:50
Was listening to the football phone in earlier guys and someone phoned in with there all time favourite Rangers team. Some good players albeit a few before my time, however, anyone like to name there favourite rangers team? there's some amount of quality players to choose from but to get started, I've come up with a team just of the top of my head. Playing a 3-5-2 formation.

Goram

Gough Butcher Amorouso

Laudrup Gascoigne Wilkins Van Bronkhorst Albertz

McCoist Hately

Subs (to name but a few)
Mols, Wilkins, Numan, Trevor Steven, Gary Stevens, Super Davie Cooper, Negri (purely for scoring over 30 goals before xmas)i Graham Roberts, Bomber Brown, Reyna, Caniggia, the De Boer brothers

Would love to have seen the best of Kuznetzov and Daniel Prodan as well and other names keep floading back to me but to many to mention. Based on my subs, would probably shuffle the starting 11 to fit others in and change formation.

Anyone got their favourite Rangers team?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm only 21, but have been a season ticket holder since 1999. I tend to only pick players I have regularly watched live, whether on TV or in the flesh, when selecting best XIs of any kind. So bearing that in mind, my best Rangers XI would be (4-3-3);

Goalkeeper: Allan McGregor

Great goalkeeper, edges it ahead of Stefan Klos based on the fact he was worth more points in a season due to playing in a weaker team and being under pressure on a more regular basis. Whenever called upon he pulled us out of trouble with wonder saves 9 times out of 10.

Right Back: Fernando Ricksen

Everything you need in a full back. Good on the ball, hard as nails, good in the air, brave, fit as a butchers dog and full of heart.

Centre Back: Lorenzo Amoruso

Brilliant centre back, very continental. Good on the ball but brave as a lion and really loved the club.

Centre Back: David Weir

The fact he was signed as a 6 month stop gap and went on to play 200+ games, most of them as captain, says it all about this legend. Only negative is that we didn't sign him earlier in his career.

Left Back: Arthur Numan

Probably the only player I have seen at Rangers who I would deem as world class, he was one of the best left backs in world football in his prime. Honoured to have seen him play for our club.

Centre Midfield: Barry Ferguson

Underrated as a player and a captain for me. Technically gifted, often suffered from caring too much when others seemed to not care at all. Had the whole package as a modern midfield player, no coincidence that he excelled when playing with better players, didn't look out of place as captain of a great Gers team at a young age.

Centre Midfield: Jorg Albertz

One of my childhood heroes, scored the winner in my first game, against Hearts. Brilliant player, probably the last midfielder to offer us a regular 10-15 goals a season threat, was missed when he left, prematurely in my eyes.

Attacking Midfield: Ronald de Boer

What a talent. Just oozed class and you could see in everything he did that, despite his lack of pace, his brain was so far ahead of the rest. Scored some wonderful goals and was a joy to watch.

Forward: Michael Mols

My ultimate childhood hero and, ability wise, the best player I have seen at Rangers. Had it not been for the injury in Munich who knows what this man could have achieved in the blue jersey. Also a true gent.

Forward: Kris Boyd

In for the simple fact that his goal record can't be ignored, he was a freak in front of goal. Always the question mark against his all round game, but football is about goals and I've seen nobody better at getting them for Rangers.

Forward: Kenny Miller

For me, the most underrated player we have had in recent years. During his second spell his importance to us on our way to three in a row (including the first half of the 10/11 season before he left) was huge. His work rate was always reliable but he scored important goals and always produced in big games.

Re StevenC, for someone your age I can understand many of your selection, however I am not sure if you are saying that Barry Ferguson would be captain of the team you list, ABSOLUTELY NOT.

0 0

Goram
Butcher Gough Roberston Forsyth
Laudrup Gascoine Baxter Waddell
Mccoist Hatley
Subs
Numan B ferguson Albert Stein Jardine

0 0

Jelavic was far better than Boyd.

0 0

Goram

Grieg Butcher Brown Numan

Laudrup Souness Gascoigne Cooper

McCoist Mols

Subs - Woods, Durrant, Gary Stevens, B Ferguson, Hately, Gough, Albertz

Based upon players I have watched and the best football they played in their careers but not neccssarily for Rangers

0 0

My best:goram, Greig, gough, butcher, numan, gazza, laudrup, cooper, Baxter, mccoist, hatley. subs McLean, stein, novo, amoroso and woods

0 0

Being from an older generation, my team would be:
Niven, Shearer, Caldow, Greig, McKinnon, Baxter; Henderson, MacMillan, Miller, Brand, Wilson!

Though to be fair this team is a better representation across the decades:

Goram; Jardine, Caldow; Greig, Butcher, Baxter; Laudrup, Gascoigne, McCoist, De Boer, Johnston

0 0

What about the least favourite team? Malcolm Ross etc

0 0

@1 none of your players would get near an all time great Rangers side especially MacGregor who was vastly overrated. I started watching Rangers late seventies and would include nearly all of the Rangers players that were in the actual team of all time. However I wasn't old enough to see Baxter and didn't really see too much of Grieg either. Also I am mystified why Hateley gets in the team in front of Derek Johnstone.

0 0

I meant to include the versatile Derek Johnstone and of course Richard Gough. What we'd give for players of that calibre now!

0 0

I'm 22 so agree with Steven C but I think I'd take out Boyd & Miller for Jelavic & Prso 2 fantastic players.

0 0

Doiger. I'm from the same generation as you, only I'm a Celtic man and you are right. Every Celtic supporter knew that Rangers team off by heart and it never seemed to change. All teams mentioned so far this was the best. Vinciebhoy.

0 0

Best team goram jardine numan greig mackinnon ferguson hederson macmillan mols van brockhurst laudrup subs wilkins wood wallace gascoinge forrest butcher they would give any team a run ta

0 0

Doiger the famous team surely had Bobby Ritchie instead of George Niven?
Big George was a great keeper but it was Ritchie, Shearer, Caldow etc that trips off the tongue.

@ Stewie

If you read the full post again, you will see that I picked based on my time watching Rangers, not all-time.

Also, are you saying Numan, Mols, Albertz & de Boer for instance wouldn't get "anywhere near" an all-time Rangers team? Maybe not first choice for everyone, but they would certainly be in the thoughts of many, I guarantee it. In terms of ability alone they are four of the best to ever play for the club.

If I was to pick a team based on all-time, from what I've seen in my lifetime as well as what I have seen on DVDs etc, I would go for;

Goram

Jardine
Butcher
Gough
Greig

Laudrup
Gascoigne
Baxter
Cooper

McCoist
Mols

@ 14 it is Billy Ritchie no Bobby it was Bobby Shearer

0 0

Read all posts above and wonder why no mention of mark walters

0 0

Good shout tmwnn there are so many but Walters on form was a heck of a winger. But nobody mentioned the silky skills of wee Bobby Russell and even Durranty just gets a subs spot. Going back to Barcelona Bears the wonderful left peg of Davie Smith ah the good old days! Big Tam Forsyth was another good defender and wee Claudio Reyner was very decent. For pure skill if not consistent performance there was also Alexi Mikalechenko (however you spelt his name)

0 0

@17 not a bad shout mate as I am pretty sure that Mark Walters scored more goals during his time at Ibrox against Celtic than any other player during that time. Scored some great goals for the club and some great performances

0 0

18 nbear there are lots of players to many to chose from but I liked big tam forsyth also wee bud johnson we could be doing with some of them just now eh mo johnstone lots and lots the op did have me scrambling my brain just memories amazing brill

0 0

Why hadnt cribari mate it into anyonrs dream team? Lol

0 0

Suprised Rod Wallace doesn't feature more throughout these selections! Thought he was a brilliant foward

If I was a betting man, I would bet the board refuse Dave King/ Fan's proposal and raise any funds needed using Ibrox and the training facility as security.
The non season ticket holders would then have to pay game by game at an increased rate.
Should a total boycott prevail then all will be lost.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Billyb

It's a tricky one mate. I couldn't imagine a fan boycott but on the other hand if it means a change of board then so be it. Alternatively, I heard big Derek Johnstone on the football phone in say that he feels Graham Wallace would be a good asset to Rangers in the long run. I'm united with my fellow bears however, I don't know what to believe these days. Hopefully it gets sorted out sooner rather than later and we can get the club back on a good financial footing again.

OP if only it was that simple. isn't the problem that we can't borrow money using ibrox as security because there is doubt as to who actually owns it? If so then that could mean we remain without a decent credit line, likely meaning admin whether there's a boycott of STs or not. Give cash to board we might lose it and ibrox. Give cash to DK we might lose it and ibrox. Boycott both and we might lose ibrox. Rock, hard place and a rusty spike. Those are the options. Of course it might also work out fine but we won't know that at the point when we have to choose which one to go for. Anyone for russian roulette?

0 0

Billyb I would be very very surprised if that was not there plans all along easy to see why as they've already used assets for loans

0 0

I also listened to phone in and Dj stated the reason he thinks graeme Wallace is good for rangers is because he is a big guy six foot plus and has stature and knows his stuff? aye very good Dj that really is proof? Also he knows his stuff if so why at agm did he say plenty of cash to get to end of season then low and behold. Eh can anybody tap us 1.5 million? Dj u are a clown u haven't a clue what's going on inside ibrox stop kidding on u are in the Know?

0 0

Yes tmwnn, that is my thoughts. I accept your comment Pauline about the title deeds but they are included as assets in the published accounts. They also confirm that there are no securities against them and thus wholely owned.
As tmwnn comments, I feel that the assets have been the target from day one.

0 0

PaulineBlue do you ever use the site to talk about the team or just finances, assets & the likes?

0 0

{Ed039's Note - Talk about anything you want guys, as long as it doesnt break site rules)

The deal as King is saying should not be a problem because the supporters "season ticket trust" would never sell on Ibrox or Murray park no matter what. Unlike Laxley etc, who will take the car park etc and sell on for a vast profit.
Its a no brainer unless the assets (ibrox plus ) are all ready gone or earmarked to go.

0 0

Ally, the point is that, in my opinion, the board will call King's bluff and raise money against the assets. This so called fund will then do what?
Another factor being---- How much will DK be adding to the 'fund'?
It's a non starter in it's current form.

0 0

Billyb I think if the board tried to get a loan on our remaining assets after saying the wouldn't it would be the final nail in there coffin

Billyb I don't diasagree with you that the shysters are after the assets and have been all along. But I thought the problem is that the accounts also note that there is a potential liability on the assets, due to CWs claim. Even if CWs claim is cr#p the fact that its there and acknowledged in the accounts means nobody will lend us money on security of those assets. Might be wrong but that was my understanding.

@6 yes I have posted about the football before, i'm upset you don't remember everything I say. Here's some more if it keeps you happy - we're pork and mccoist will struggle next year but even more the next year. Was listening to clyde yesterday and its widely recognised that mcoist has ice creamed up our chance of strong return to premiership as he has basically planned on being bankrolled to buy a new team with each and every promotion. He's still bleating on about buying more players, still can't see that "ally is worried = give him more millions to spend" doesn't cut it anymore.

0 0

Tmwnn, if the assets were the original target, will they care?

0 0

Billyb I don't think these barstewerds care about rangers at all its about money only for these winkers but after saying they ain't going to go that route they could see a massive revolt if they did eh mate

Seen goram in the papers saying boydy should be mccoists main transfer for next season. What's everyone's thoughts on this and we all know we shouldn't be signing any more players so keep it on the football side of things. Personally I think he's a better all round player and would only enhance the squad

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Football budgets are the football side, we are cutting players not adding them, there's still a of junk on another year's contracts yet, i. e. Ian black etc, I don't see us signing anyone.

0 0

If money becomes available then Boyd should be the first signing

0 0

Johncass ime not so sure mate no doubt he is looking for his last transfer but its the lazy streak he has in him that would put me of him coming back but hey I might be wrong but is it worth the gamble

0 0

I personally think marc McNulty would be a great striker and mccoist has already shown interest a few months back.

0 0

A honestly don't think signing him, would be a gamble mate, he would score goals as he does. Mcnulty is also a good shout for another option.

0 0

Boyd isn't the answer for Rangers. If we have any money to sign anyone it should be someone younger. There are already too many players that will be done by the time we reach the Premiership like McCulloch, Black, Daly, Foster and Smith so why add another?

0 0

Maybe we already have the next Boyd in young Clark surely if Ally can improve any of our players it's him being the Goal Machine he once was.

0 0

N7 I don't think ally would need to try inproving clark all he needs is games

Well fellow Bears Dave King is now in Glasgow heading for a meeting with Fans' groups. Let's hope he has persuaded the institutional investors in London that his plan is the only way forward and those other Board members can shed their selfish, self-interests and make way for the good of Rangers. Fingers crossed!
PS and let's hope Ally gives a few youngsters a chance for the rest of the season. What better time to start than in tomorrow's game against Dunfermline?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Doiger - what exactly is his plan? do we know?

JG

0 0

I can only hope that Dave King mobilises enough fans to show this board that we will not be taken advantage of once again.

I was appalled to read this morning about Mr Easdale taking Craig Houston of the Sons of Struth to court over apparently libellous statements. This dictatorship and fear culture is nothing short of disgusting. This is not the Rangers we know and love. I would hope that Mr Houston would know that a large proportions of the fans are behind him.

0 0

Why doesn't the RFF pay for his defence? Where is that cash anybody know?

On the subject of charity, does anybody actually know the latest on the RFF? I criticised at the time the idea of money raised from Rangers fans being spent to lay a new pitch - and Green, Ahmad, Blue Pitch etc must have laughed at that, saving them a tidy sum but what will the rest of the money be spent on and how much is actually left?

Was 10k sorry for the typo!Fantastic gesture from them shame the manky mhob have to put a negative spin on everything but
