14 May 2017 19:23:35
Hi All. Getting frustrated at comments on potential signings. For example Nemeth. Perfect age, full international, 2 footed, good in the air, fast, on a good season can score 1 in 2 and is known by the manager. If you are judging him on every season he has ever played, sure he ain't ronaldo, but even mcoist was rank at Sunderland and if you look at Scott Sinclairs record we would not have touched him. Also the grief the current players doesn't sit comfortably with me. Some are average, grants, but not there fault. They gave us a great season last year, some good football a cup final, beating celtic and promotion and got us into Europe! sure some are at the end of the dream but let's not forget everybody involved should get thanked for their efforts and wished all the best. I want these guys to follow from a distance and be ambassadors for Rangers and not leaving on bad terms with the club and support, that can only damage us. We don't all run ahead leaving the slowest behind we get behind them, pick them up and push them on. We are a family, a team, we are Rangers.

14 May 2017 20:04:30
Agree 100%. Nemeth would be a great signing. People seem to think the standard of the spfl is higher than it actually is, nemeth would do a job

Whilst we are on strikers, Matt Derbyshire out in Cyprus hit way more than 20 goals this year after leaving Rotherham on 7k a week. Before anyone slates the Cypriot league, it's got a better coefficient than spl and the teams regularly outperform our own in Europe.

14 May 2017 20:45:30
I would take nemeth over mault any day

14 May 2017 21:32:51
Good shout on Nemeth, wouldn't necessarily agree on comments regarding existing players. It is one thing to not have the ability and that can be grudgingly accepted but that is no excuse for a lack of commitment and a lack of passion. Players like Bob Malcom and Jim Denny were not the greatest of football players but they face 100% every game and certainly wouldn't have let creatures like Brown boss them. The same cannot be said for the majority of those brought in by Warburton!

14 May 2017 23:05:51
Bob malcom, serious mate he was rotten

14 May 2017 23:38:33
Gary75, read my post again. I didn't say he was a quality player. What I said was that he gave 100% and he played for the Jersey which is more than can be said for so called current Rangers men like Halliday who was a total coward in the old firm games! Bob Malcolm would have made Brown's life absolute hell for 90 minutes whereas Halliday was like a big fairy!

15 May 2017 06:23:33
Bob malcolm didn't back out any challenge and was good in the air. Just wasnt a good passer of the ball. Would take him over senderos any day.

15 May 2017 19:50:34
Superb post. Says it all I think

14 May 2017 18:24:30
I think we should enquire about James mcarthur. He has a year left at palace, he is 30 in October but has lost his starting place and I'm sure he will be wanting to play as much as possible and after a few years of good cash in England he may take a cut to play for his boyhood club what anyone else think.

14 May 2017 18:46:45
Since Palace have secured position in EPL for next season, there is little or no chance of McArthur coming back over the border as much as he would be a standout in midfield lacking any bite whatsoever

14 May 2017 19:07:48
But the fact they are staying up they will have a good budget to improve their squad so if he is only getting used as a sub now what chance does he have when they add to the squad

14 May 2017 20:14:33
I would like to agree with you Gary, however Palace are at the wrong end of EPL to significantly improve squad, also as always money talks and with at his age a nice salary is a luxury Campionship or other EPL teams can offer

14 May 2017 21:34:20
Good shout but I don't see us having the money to bring him back from Palace or the money to pay his wages. Perhaps I am wrong but I doubt it!

14 May 2017 22:27:49
He is on £40k and has been for a few years so I don't think he'd need to send his missus down to the food banks if he came to us and took a cut and to some they may have a professional bucket list to do before their careers are over league winners medals cup medals and playing for the teams they grow up supporting and as Shite as we've been we have more chance of winning things than palace

15 May 2017 07:17:39
Please let's talk about signings we could possibly get rather than make things up a know it's a rumour page but stop being rediculous

15 May 2017 18:40:37
He is known to have been a Rangers fan but did he not knock us back before going south. There's probably another £20000 reason why not.

15 May 2017 19:45:29
Was thinking that watching the alace match. Would be a standout in spl and is a gers fan

14 May 2017 18:15:36
So Bruno Alves according to the DR is "flattered" about being associated with us. Respecting what he has done in his career, but at 35 does he have the motivation to take a mediocre team forward? How are his present team doing in terms of limiting goals?

14 May 2017 18:26:30
Surely he is one of about five or six that will come in to help Pedro get us back where we belong!

If they are all of a same standard as Alves I will be very happy!

He is a player that will give 100%, the guy is a professional.

14 May 2017 18:50:55
If, and it's a big If, more players of international calibre are "signed" I still don't see how he has the enthusiasm to come here and at an outside chance get to the CL
If he could show the hunger I would see 1 or at a push 2 more seasons, with maybe a coaching role golden handshake

14 May 2017 20:51:10
I think alves would be interested as it fits his career he has always played for huge clubs challenging for titles and trophys and playing in Europe so if he has the chance to Finnish his Career doing that I think Rangers would be very appealing to him hence why I think he will come.

14 May 2017 20:55:38
Why would Alves come to Rangers? He would take a massive massive pay cut to join a team who ate struggling 36 points behind the Champions of Scotland. It is not going to happen

15 May 2017 06:27:25
Maby to play in europe? He also says he wanted to sample the atmosphere in british football, maby just wanting a new challenge under his fellow countryman.

15 May 2017 07:55:48
Alves will come to the bears as he not needing the cash and for euro football

15 May 2017 09:06:22
Its not about needing the cash. Alves and the likes have no need to come to a struggling team. Rangers would need to start to become competative to attract players like this and they don't have the funds to do that. Its going to take years and Rangers need to start building a young team who maybe will mature over 2 or 3 years. Picking up 35 year old players is just short term and in another 2 years Rangers will still be in the same position. Time to build something which should have started 3 or 4 years ago.

15 May 2017 20:48:44
He will come as he wants to sample the fanatical British support, play in European competition, under a Portuguese manager he apparently rates and to challenge for trophies. He's at Calgari not Juve so I'd imagine we could afford similar wages to what he's on.

16 May 2017 10:39:34
johnny mac how do u suggest we get competative if no good players woukd come to us next year because we sucked this year answer me that.

your method of thinking confuses me most players will go to a club and believe tey can make a difference and when a player sees a team the size of rangers coming back the previous years points don't really come into consideration for them.

i can't ever see a player saying i'm not going to rangers because the first time of asking they finished 36 points behind celtic!

seriously think about what u are saying.

they guys is past his prime he knows it but well better than anyone else in this league in that position

14 May 2017 13:31:38
Interesting news about taking a year out from the Development League. Just hope the money is made available to play against teams from England and the continent on as regular a basis as possible.

Is this possible as Chelsea, Man Utd etc will involved in the English Development League.

14 May 2017 14:45:09
Yeah it looks like a great move from the guys in the youth department. Would be great to see some of the young lads like Zac Rudden and Jack Thomson develop against similar aged quality players, rather being farmed out on loan to St Mirren and end up going backwards

14 May 2017 15:06:51
I'm reading about potential signings but my concern is that we have to sell before we buy. I'm not a fan of King to be honest but I really do hope he comes up with the funding we hugely crave. This season for me has been a bit embarrassing regarding the points difference between us and Aberdeen and Celtic. King has to come good. What's his plan before season ticket money is due?

14 May 2017 15:34:51
Gor, I reckon that there is more chance of finding Lord Lucan and Shergar than seeing King invest what is needed in Rangers this summer, (and the Investment really needs to come in June before the Europa Cup) . I will be surprised if Pedro secures all of his top targets since I keep reading that most of the overseas contingent that he has been rumoured to be interested in are under contract.

Only time will tell but if by mid June we haven't secured two new quality defenders and two quality midfield players, (and I am not talking about players from Motherwell), then I would suggest that the writing is on the wall for the new season.

14 May 2017 15:42:06
I'm no king fan he really has to come through for us and not spin us a line in order to sell season tickets but I fear were going to get a small amount to rebuild this shambles of a squad

14 May 2017 16:12:17
TOMUSA, An honest post, we're on the same wavelength. I hear King has been working behind the scenes desperately looking for investment but what I gather is that won't happen unless he steps down. Whether that's true or not only time will tell.

14 May 2017 16:16:25
King is not going to invest much in the squad. Maybe £2mill including any money raised Fromm sales. So that's not going to go too far. Pedro has been talking up his previous contacts that played for him in Mexico and Quatar. So far looks like zero uptake. I am telling everyone now, this is the Portuguese version of Ronnie Dalia. Statements like having the best squad in Scotland were the first signs he was talking nonesense. Now he gives the board a hit list of 12, and says it's not difficult to move players on and you don't need to give players money to persuade them to sign up for Rangers. So all he is doing is digging a hole for himself. So next season the fight is on for 2nd place at best. Wonder how many season tickets will get sold? Oh and it's good to see Kenny Miller already stabbing Pedro in the back trying to line himself up as next manager. Another b*** s****r.

14 May 2017 17:32:47
Gor, I have heard the same story here in Texas from guys that I know. It would appear that Mr. King is struggling to secure any meaningful investment and he does appear to be the problem! It will be interesting to see how he performs iat NARS although I suspect that it will just be another round of asking the fans to spend their hard earned cash while he keeps his $millions firmly in his pocket!

14 May 2017 18:33:01
Fear that from now until the seeable future were now playing for second while Celtic take in millions from champions league and were feeding of scraps

15 May 2017 08:02:52
Bawbag that's the way it's going to be for few years we never going to stop 10 in a row and the sooner we all realise that the mess is that bad the better

15 May 2017 14:59:09
If they played there home games at ibrox, I think they would get a decent crowd, do they play the games at Murray park.

14 May 2017 12:34:54
Bruno alves keen on a move to U. K. Which would only cost us around 450k. i'd say get him in the door seen a lot of people comparing it to the senderos scenerio but they must be on the malt cause senderos couldn't lace the big mans boots exactly the type of player we should be targeting if we wanna have a wee jaunt in Europe.

14 May 2017 13:10:22
Would be an outstanding signing to get a player of his pedigree and he is just the sort of no nonsense centre back we need. He has played in Europe and won trophys almost every season with big clubs so he will definitely have the winning mentality we are looking for. And let's not forget he still gets into the Portugal squad which shows he is still at a very high level. also played 34games in seri A this season which is a far higher standard than hear so the age thing not a factor with me that proves he still has it he should stroll it in Scotland I really hope we can get this one over the line. 🙏

15 May 2017 13:42:32
Im surprised 450k is all he's valued at tbh. I know age plays a part but i'd be interested to know how much a week he's on

15 May 2017 15:07:51
Yip motherwellbear and Deanobear, I can't disagree with any of you! Bruno alves would be a fantastic signing for the famous glasgow rangers! Truly hope we can get him!

16 May 2017 10:49:01
defo the type of player that could captain our team he commands respect from everyone and we need that leadership on the park

14 May 2017 11:11:30
I know everyone give Dodoo a hard time and has yet to really show us why he should stay but he was in 4-5 positions yesterday, where if he was fed the ball he was though and if waggy wasn't so greedy he would have had a goal.

14 May 2017 15:37:27
Difficult to judge when we don't have a midfield and our defence is shaky. Until we replace mediocre players like Holt and get rid of guys like Halliday and replace them with quality players we will have the same problems in attack. We are so far short of quality players it is frightening!

14 May 2017 16:22:05
Whereas you may have a good point I was very disappointed with his back tracking. Poor and poor positioning. Needs improvements but may happen if we can get the rest of the squad working

14 May 2017 16:56:46
He doesn't fancy the physical nature of the league and he was clearly hiding against Celtic in the last game

14 May 2017 17:35:04
Bengy, I agree. But what support did he get from his midfield and his defence. The team is made up of a bunch of cowards. We needed a midfield enforcer to put Brown in his place and a hard as nail defence but all we have is a powder puff defence and a midfield that couldn't tackle a fish supper!

16 May 2017 10:51:28
doesnt matter what support he got he need to go into 50/ 50's to make it in this league u can't be seriously thinking he deserves a start ahead of mckay as that's the reason everyone fell out with him yet dodoo is a prospect?
for me dodoo is not the quality that we need.

we should concentrat on mckay or end up losing a quality player for buttons.

he has had 2 poor spells in this season but for me is still the best quality we have.

i agree mckay need to be more consistant but he can't be in a team that can't string 3-4 results together

14 May 2017 10:26:37
Apparently alves is open to a move to rangers and would be available for 400k is he worth it.

14 May 2017 10:52:15
I would say definitely no. Too old as nd no sell on value. We have to unearth the likes of cuellar or Boumsong, if we are to move forward. Easier said than done of course, but we have to look to the future not the here and now.

14 May 2017 11:16:53
The only reason we could find a cuellar or boumsong is because we used the ept system. When are fans going realise the days of signing this standark of player are long gone at rangers

14 May 2017 11:27:18
ALVES younger than Hill. so of corse he's not too old

14 May 2017 12:05:37
Hopefully we sign alves.

14 May 2017 12:23:41
i don't believe chic green-

The point I am trying to make is buying young, improving players to sell at a big profit. Those two spring to mind, but we have a woeful record of selling on players for profit.

All about opinions, can someone explain the positives in signing a 35yr old player, costing maybe £500k and say £1m a year basic?

14 May 2017 12:29:22
I think we need Alves, it's not always about sell on value.

14 May 2017 12:36:23
Joscro, but what benefits will he bring that will outweigh the negatives I believe?

It is never about sell on value with Rangers, that's what got us into the state we ended up in. No vision at the club, or very limited short term vision at best.

14 May 2017 13:05:49
I think you're right about good young players being the future but we also need a solid team on the pitch, surely having a good team is just as important as selling a player, £400.000 isn't astronomical for a couple of seasons good service will Pedro gets a few transfer windows to buy good players some potential some established

14 May 2017 13:16:04
How can you say you Wouldn't take a player who is a current Portuguese international who has Just played a full season in the Italian top flight and played well that's utter madness! Let's just go for Ben henigen or Liam Lindsey then yeah!

14 May 2017 13:19:58
If we spend £400,000 on a player of his ability and he solids up the defence for two seasons which he will and then help the younger lads along at the same time to me with the huge price tags of today that's money well spent.

14 May 2017 14:33:47
Anyone how says Alves isn't a good signing obviously knows nothing abt football and Rangers current situation! Davie weir played in a UEFA cup final aged 39! Alves is a current Portuguese international and at 35 he still has plenty in the tank and exactly the no nonsense defender we're badly needing!

14 May 2017 15:43:59
While I agree that it is better to bring in good young players I would ask two questions, first, who is scouting them, and second, where are we going to find the funds to bring them in.

There are quality young players in Europe, some of them playing in the B sides of real Madrid, the Milan teams etc., but you don't pick them up for peanuts.

Alves is a top quality player and is available for £450,000, we would be off our heads not to sign him. Lucas is also available from Liverpool on a Free Transfer and would be a good signing but I guess his wages would be too high.

We need quality and need to compete, that means signing players that are 100 times better than most of the rubbish that we have at Ibrox at present.

14 May 2017 16:00:42
We got Rossiter, Crooks and Windass for sell on value and look how that turned out, albeit Rossiter may be an important player for us, I would rather we got trusted players in that are possibly depreciating assets if we put in a serious challenge.

14 May 2017 16:14:21
Vanbasten9, you should be in charge of SNP propaganda with that view. Interesting though that you would be prepared to shell out up to £3m over two seasons for one player, and slate someone for not knowing about 'Rangers current situation'. How many players of Alves's calibre/ value could Rangers bring in? Where are the funds coming from to pay these players?

14 May 2017 16:38:44
We may all be pleasantly surprised at what money is available.

14 May 2017 17:09:20
Cullin 72 I just feel that we need a team that can compete with Celtic mate and I think Alves is a step forward even though he's 35! We were paying joey Barton 20 grand a week I think giving Alves a 2 year contract 20 grand a week isn't a bad move if I'm honest👍🏼

14 May 2017 17:38:10
Josco, I won't be pleasantly surprised unless it is around the £30m mark! In any event, it will most likely not come from King whatever we end up with!

14 May 2017 18:13:40
£5m even wouldn't be too bad at all.

16 May 2017 10:53:22
everyone we need sell on value and i agree we do but not with the whole team we need a balance of youth with experience and on that note alves would be a terrific signing for us and would make our shape a lot better.
we don't need every singing to make us money but we do need every signing to be one that will improve our sqaud.

look at it this way we get a few youth and experience outh can sell on to make us money and experience will help us in europe which will brin its own profits.

if u think we can make money in europe with just youth then u are not so smart my friend

14 May 2017 08:44:04
Ugly win yesterday, however, we should not get too carried away -that was dire, no other way to describe it. Hearts played well - and owned mid field even with 10 men. Once again, Waggy fails to convert when 1 on 1- poor guys confidence must be shot. Almost the exact same situation as the 2 1 on 1's against them.
We need winners throughout the spine of our team and a new midfield of experienced seasoned pros - question is-will board cough up the funds- Pedro seems to think so.
Hopefully Warbs will send a mini bus for Tav, Waggy, Kiernan and Forrester - should bank aprox £1m for the 3 of them.
Holt just seems like a wee boy running about like a headless chicken - just seems to bounce off players -
Huge amount of work needs to be done- and we need to qualify for Europa league for the cash - interesting times lie ahead- seat belts on lads!

14 May 2017 09:26:16
Barcabear

Waghorn is just rank rotten and it's incredible how he still manages to get into the squad. Really poor performance yesterday against a truly awful Hearts team. 2 bad teams and very little quality on show. Would also add Windass and Halliday to that exit list however can't see many teams enquirying about those duds

14 May 2017 11:31:15
Windass played ok and shows potential, he needs to get his confidence up but I like players who are attack minded, he just needs a goal or 2 to help lift his belief

14 May 2017 15:47:27
I am not sure about Windass or for that matter Crooks. I would get shot of Waghorn, Kiernan and Halliday and if Warburton wanted them then I would let them go for free if it meant getting them off our books and releasing a wage. I would also look to offload Hodson if we can get some money for him. He is non existent in attack and not that great in defence.

14 May 2017 08:12:20
RANGERS tonight announced that they have withdrawn from the Development League for season 2017/ 18.Instead the Ibrox club will organise a series of friendly matches against English and European opposition in an attempt to fast track younger players into the Rangers first team.

Head of Academy, Craig Mulholland, has been given the green light by the SPFL and also has received the permission of the SFA with the new Performance Director, Malky MacKay signaling his approval.

Rangers will not withdraw from the domestic game entirely as they will be participating at under-20s level in the Scottish FA Youth Cup and SPFL Challenge Cup.

However Rangers hope to attract glamour matches against the like of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton and hope that these sides will be able to provide a decent challenge for the young Ibrox stars of the very near future.

14 May 2017 12:56:24
is this really a good move when we supposedly are skint?

these will cost us money and not bring in any?

from footy perspective could be nice though

14 May 2017 13:59:11
This is a bold and brave move which will certainly reap dividends in the next 5-10 years, either in getting players through or placing them in the shop window. It will ensure they have an early knowledge of different tactics, formations, approaches and philosophies that apply in other European countries, making them more valuable to a wider market. I hope they tag education on to this, teach them language skills and media skills to help their full development. Well done to the development team!

14 May 2017 06:16:37
Is it just me or do we have the worst/ light weight / bullied off the ball midfielders in this league, how many times did holt get pushed off the ball? , 2-1 up with hearts having 10 men and we still looked as is we had the 10 men, we are far too slow, waghorn recieves the ball just over half way line, and it takes him 2 mins to figure out who to pass the ball to, the last 5 mins we could have wrapped the game up with the 2-3 good chances we had but yet again we loose the ball and cause ourselves a sweat . 3 v 2 and we still can't manage the simple ball to finish hearts off, conclaves took on at least 5-6 players on a few times and still managed to create a chance, . Surely we must have good replacements for defence because Clint hill was our best defender of the game and he's offski, tavernier going forward looks promising at times but every game he manages to put us under pressure either with a ball back to keeper or just stop trying to walk out of defence

McKay = could've so much better if he never sh** out so many 50:50 balls

Apart from that, millers ball to garner and the header was superb.

14 May 2017 08:08:22
Agree with you there mate. I like wee holt but he is just far too lightweight.

14 May 2017 08:30:09
I agree. Apart from the first 30 mins Hearts looked far better in all departments. Better passing and movement looked fitter and wanted to win the tackles. Miller was off boil yesterday giving away the ball all the time, holt was a waste of time and bates looks slow and scared. Tan is a goal against risk every game with needless errors. I am glad toral going back as he doesn't care. The sooner we get players to cover all areas instead of playing strikers all over the place the better. On a positive Widnas started making lots of good runs yesterday and didn't deserve to be subbed

14 May 2017 08:31:59
Your right weedan this has been the problem for us all season we don't have any really big physical players who can really stand up to many if any of the other teams in this league and in my opinion that is all down to warburton who completely underestimated the physical nature of the premiership, but I think Pedro can see this and hopefully he can address the problem with his recruitment in the summer and get a decent blend of players in, because let's be honest warburton recruitments this season have been an absolute shambles hence the reason he paid the price with his job and rightly so in my opinion

14 May 2017 08:32:45
No it's not just you, weedan. I don't know what they do in training but it can't be anything to do with how to take or win a tackle! I mean Kante is only a tiny guy but boy can he tackle. As you say Tav remains a liability in defence but usually he offers something in attack. Yesterday his final ball was shocking for most of the game. Waghorn's miss was criminal-yet again! Another website suggested they reached their level last year and both should never play for the club again. Can see their point but won't happen probably. By the way do you think that Kiernan, Forrester and MOH not even making the bench these days is a sure sign they're being shown the door. Also Bar jonas getting on before Halliday (he did OK) may be another one. Let's hope so. I think a crucial difference with the team under Pedro though is (the Celtic games aside where he got his tactics completely wrong) we seem to be able to play garbage and still win (Aberdeen, Thistle and yesterday the most recent examples) . Gives me hope for when he can put out his own team next season.

14 May 2017 09:09:37
Windass got into the positions because he had the free role behind the striker watch a 're run of the game again every time he got it turned into nothing if McKay played there he wudav done a lot more with it windass isn't ready yet

14 May 2017 09:31:04
I cannot believe someone thought Windass played well! He was his usual rank rotten and was rightly subbed just after 50 mins. Hopefully Accrington will come back in for him as lower league 2 is his level. We would have been better signing his dad

14 May 2017 15:54:05
I don't expect McKay to get stuck in, I expect him to play as a winger and help win us games. (It would be nice if he was like Willie Johnston and could look after himself but I will accept him being like Willie Henderson or Davie Wilson) . What we need is a couple of midfield enforcers. A guy like Souness that can play the ball, (and the man when needed), that looks after himself and his team mates, someone like Hurlock and, going back in time, Harold Davis or John Greig.

At centre back we need an assassin, someone like Butcher, and a guy like Roberts or Gough alongside him.

Right now we have no one in either midfield or defence that meets those characteristics and our goalkeeper doesn't command his six yard box! From what I am hearing, Pedro wants to bring in players that add a spine to the team in more ways than one and I just hope that he is given the funding to bring in the players he wants!

13 May 2017 23:05:52
2 strikers we should look at busting a gut for - Jermaine Defoe and Peter crouch. Would both do a phenomenal job and we need this calibrate of player!

I'll tell you who we should be bursting a gut for, portugal centre half bruno alves! I don't think we'll be able to get him, but hopefully caixinha trys his damnest to sign this hard, man mountain, of a centre half! Before the age thing starts, spare me it, because even at 35 years old this big guy would walk it in the scottish premiership! IMHO we'd get at least 3 good years out of alves!
