Hi Ed. Is it true that Penny Arcade is played at Ibrox as some sort of sectarian dig at Celtic? I have noticed on the "other" banter page they are up in arms about Penny Arcade. Am I just naive in not knowing the reasoning as to why the song is played at Ibrox? I find it hard to believe that a song with no sectarian references whatsoever is being regarded as sectarian.

TonyTheGer {Ed014's Note - It is questionable from what I have been told by the English Eds and have not to post any of its lyrics or peoples names that are associated with the song.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

There going to try and pick off every change we make, looks like we will need to fight every inch this is a line in the sand for me i seen for myself at the last OF game the power of this song on the crowd we will not change its another bouncy nothing in it ,we still do the bouncy, well still sing penny arcade...les

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh for goodness sake, this is getting out of hand! history is littered with songs which could be seen as offensive, even God save the queen has a go at us Scots, what is happening is people are coming over all hurt as a way of justifying their own opinions. In reality we could hang some dubious meaning or otherwise to any song.

This is all making the situation worse, I have been on the other Page and they are again using this issue as yet another justification of the denial of any problems within their own club.

Wibblyblue

Wibblyblue

Agree1 Disagree0

And i still dont know what they cant get enough of lol...les

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely Ed if that was the case it would have been banned from Ibrox a long time ago? It is to my understanding that it was sang at a loyalist function or whatever away back in the 80's and has since then caught on. If I am totally honest I thought it was played at Ibrox due to the "Step up and play"(aint sure if you will post that) part in an attempt to motivate the team.

Surely the reason in question by the Celtic fans isn't the sole reason Rangers fans sing it!

TonyTheGer {Ed014's Note - I had a read on the Celtic pages and a snoop about some sites.I can see why it is treated as questionable if what other Rangers fans say about why the song was adopted.I'd have never have known if I am honest. The sectarianism or offensive stuff from both sides sometimes makes me glad I moved down south.

Agree1 Disagree0

They got a result with the billy boys ,they failed with the bouncy, there having a go with penny arcade we will just have to be vigelant wont be long till its something else
timmy what about something inside so strong? time to nip that wee ditty perhaps? {Ed014's Note - It was the Hokey Coky that confused me.It was a family party favourite when I was young no matter what company you were in,usually mixed if I remember right.

Agree1 Disagree0

This is total bs and is another attempt by Celtic fans to rewrite history. The reason Celtic fans give is part of a concerted attempt to find bigotted connotations in everything Rangers fans do.

I have never heard any Rangers fan say they sing the song for any bigotted reasons. I wonder if the Ed would like to provide some links to Rangers fans claiming a sectarian reason behind the song. {Ed014's Note - I think Ed007 did.Links to Rangers forums he has access to.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes that surprised me to had to look it up, yet its never been taken up by the fans? there was questions about WATP to so just keep slinging mud if anything sticks result

Agree0 Disagree0

I followed the link posted to the Rangers Media forum. It gives you the opinion of some fans why they think it was adopted by Rangers fans. However, that's all it is, their opinion. That does not make it fact.

People who have an agenda of their own can find "hidden" meaning in just about any song. The whole Hokey Cokey being an anti-Catholic song being the most obvious example.

It is typical that Rangers fans sing a totally harmless song and an element of the Celtic support try to find a sectarian angle to that song to suit their rabid belief that all Rangers fans are bigots. {Ed014's Note - Why did Rangers start singing it?I never did when I was younger and went to games, never even heard of it when I was young if I'm honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

I spoke to ma dad who started going to games in the 70s an he said it was sung then when did this guy get murdered the 80s i think its a disgrace an just proves how sad celtic fans really r now the shoe is on the other foot

T-Bear

Agree0 Disagree0

I've had the pleasure of going to Ibrox since the early 70s and the song was never sung back then,it is far more recent than that it has been getting played or sang at games.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hokey cokey rips the piss out of the the MASS. Obviously, as a kid you don t realise these things. They do get offended quite easily though, or say they do. Poor timmy, needs to desensitise a little.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought it was because towards the end of the song the tune in the background is very much like the sash give it a listen and see./ biggles

What has happened to grown men these days when they are offended by a group of fans singing a song at a football game for two or three minutes be it about the pope, the queen, king billy, f*niens, pr*ddies or whatever .

People need to get a grip on reality for goodness sake, i have been to many hundreds of games, during my 35 years supporting the gers and i can honestly say i never came out of a game and thought oh i was''offended'' by a song that was sung, i may not have liked the songs being sung in opposition but i was never offended

To anyone who is so easily offended by anything, please stay at least 2 mile away from any stadium when there is a game in progress.

A good example is the nutcase who posted on here that he was offended by the word gallows in one song because that implied hanging someone, where does this nonsense end

Ok thats my opinion which i have a right to thanks to our democratic society, the history of which should not be overlooked in case it offends someone

JG

Believable5 Unbelievable1

JG,

The only reason people are "offended" is when their team are on the receiving end of a beating.

The prime example being the Famine Song. Celtic fans didn't bother about that whatsoever until after a match at Parkhead in which Rangers won, can't mind the score. It was then our good friend Phil McGobblin lodged a complaint claiming that the song reduced his 8 year old daughter to "tears"........

People aren't really offended, they are just chosing to be offended out of either sour grapes or sheer determination to get their rivals punished.

While you are on the "Gallows" subject it was my post in which the nutter replied. I can only presume this guy trembles at the prospect of a stroll down Gallowgate.......

TonyTheGer

He probably takes a detour to avoid being offended

I have been thinking about the tax case and all that it could mean to our club, Now with the dates set in January we have another long and nervous wait to see our fate. The media vultures are circling in the air almost drooling at the thought of picking over the remains of the once great and majestic mammoth of a club their claws out ready to savage anyone who may have a positive thing to say about us. On the other side of the city the short sighted chattering masses are almost euphoric at the thought they might just win a title, pinning all their hopes on a massive points deduction , blinkered to the fact that their club is falling apart around them, twisted by self- interest and pseudo moral fibre championing a crusade against bigotry yet blinkered to the disease within its own walls. Celtic need Rangers if we fall they will suffer also, the two clubs history is entwined and tangled and the things that define what it means to be a fan of either would not be as it is now if one or the other had never been. No matter what happens I am now and will always be a Ranges fan, proud of our club and happy in the memories of players such as Greg, Cooper, Goram and Butcher , the cups the titles the wins the draws and the losses. So I say to those who want us gone be careful of what you wish for and ask all true Rangers fans keep your heads high and your hearts proud and remember as long as there is rangers fans there will always be a Rangers.

Delighted that the tax case is delayed and a decision expected in April, even if worse happened we have 30 days to appeal. Therefore the possibility of 10 point deduction would not affect this season. Therefore it's a certainty for four in a row. Then cl football next season and more of a settled squad, I fancy chances of qualifying. The mob must be sick as they no have no chance of the title.

Also believe that these delays suggest that we are going to win the tax case. If it was clear cut no delay would seem most likely. Have always been confident that we would win the case, and believe even more now.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Agreed pal. The future is bright.
We are the Rangers, we are the champs.

Agree1 Disagree1

Can you please decide, you either listen to craig whyte or you dont. He says he wont appeal if he loses the hmrc case.
The whole thing reeks of the guy boyle at motherwell, as long as whyte remains the main creditor he remains in control of the administration. He gets his money all the other wee guys and hmrc get stuffed. The smart money is on whyte trying to do a deal with hmrc to accept liability and pay somewhere in the region of 15-18million.

Agree1 Disagree0

Why would we pay 15-18 million when we are only being wrongly pursued for £49m. Arsenal were supposedly due HMRC £300m and settled at £10m. HMRC are humped mate.

Gerry The Ger.

Agree1 Disagree0

Meanwhile over at Rangerstaxcase, it's all gone very quiet, the masses are asking their messiah for a new post to soften the security blanket before getting tucked in for the night, I absolutely love reading that gash, not one single shred of evidence to back up the wild claims - clever writing for the sycophantic timmy's who don't have the common sense to ask for some proof - Tell all the Dhims you know, it's gonna be 4 in a row ..

Followfollow81, on both sites tonight you have stated that no sectarian songs are now sung at Ibrox. Penny Arcade is both played over the tannoy and sung by your fans. This song has sectarian undertones which you are all aware of. ALL THESE SONGS MUST BE BANNED Timalloy

Believable1 Unbelievable5

That is sick Tim. Was that because your ed was pandering youse? It's only people that's paranoid sectarian bigots that think Penny Arcade is a sectarian song. I can't believe you would stoop so low. My son and I will always sing this song. Are you saying my 6yr old son is what you are referring to. Away you go. I don't normally get angry but you are punching below the belt.
Followfollow81

Agree3 Disagree1

Yeah Timalloy it's a conspiracy and Roy Orbison is in on it from the grave, really been a bad week for you, still no administration, still second, found out by uefa and 4in a row here we go as tax case will be settled after may. Go and lie down son.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry, FF81 the TRUTH hurts, this song sung by rangers fans is all wrong. Before you say anything, ALL these types of songs sung by BOTH sets of fans are wrong. I condemn singing IRA songs, both fans have lots of other songs to sing, let's sing those and bin all these questionable ones. Timalloy

Agree1 Disagree0

I have been reading the posts on this page for some time and Mr t lloy is by far and away the most mixed up individual i have ever seen. He is setting himself up as the nations moral compass yet it is almost killing him to look at the rot that lies within his own club, Tell you what Timmy my boy , go sort out your own house and once you have come back on here and tell us how you got on.

Can I just make a common sense point to all the gers fans and unwashed ones who come one here. Everones worried about losing the tax case and administration. Do you really think HMRC would be stupid enough to lump us with a bill that would put us out of business or into admin?

That would be shooting yourself in the foot! They'll want all their money back. Not 10p in the pound if they forced us into admin.

So basically common sense tell that they would ask for affordable repayments so they get their whole lot eventually rather than nothing! Obv not ideal but we're not going out of business people!

Rossco Cyprus Bear

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Flawed reasoning, Whyte firstly will not have this millstone hanging round his neck when he can offload it with administration. HMRC don't do pay ups over prolonged periods, they will add interest that would keep the bill rising. FFS they aren't wonga.com and we aren't paying by provvy cheque, let's just wait and see what happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with Whyte preferring admin but HMRC wouldn't particularly want that. Have you ever had a large bill from the government? You do get the option of installments? Nothing to do with wonga.com as any institution would rather have all their cash back rather than nothing at all.

Personally though I'd take admin and start again

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Nov 2011 20:12:30
I was wondering if the gers did lose the tax case would they have any extra time to find the cash or is it due straight away? If so is there anyway the fans can donate cash to help pay? I for one would be willing to give 1000 towards helping out my team!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

How and when to appeal to the tribunal
Generally, you must send your appeal to the tribunal within 30 days of the HMRC decision you disagree with, whether this is the original decision made by HMRC or the conclusion of an HMRC review.

In addition, you can send an appeal about a direct tax matter to the tribunal at any time after you have sent the appeal to HMRC, unless a review is under way.

There are also various situations in which you can make applications to the tribunal, for example if HMRC refuses to accept a late direct tax appeal or an indirect tax hardship application.

Also, if HMRC are carrying out an enquiry into your business’s direct tax affairs you can ask the tribunal to tell HMRC to close that enquiry, if you don’t think it’s reasonable for them to continue. Applications are dealt with by the tribunal in a similar way to an appeal.

This isn't really a rumour, just an opinion and a question

I don’t think we should sign any of the players we are being linked with, be it the 2 Indians, the boy from Nepal or South Korea or Nigeria. Yes, Asia may be a vastly untapped market, but you must remember it is only developing as a footballing continent. And just by looking at the wikipedias/youtube videos of these guys Rangers are looking at/giving trials to, they just don’t seem good enough, couple that with the fact that you could not find two more differing environments than Glasgow and the likes of Mumbai and Hong Kong, so it is unlikely that these players would settle in Scotland.
I’m not saying we should abandon the idea, but maybe revisit it a few years down the line, and focus on homegrown talent and developing the state of the Scottish game first. Before we start flooding the SPL with Asian flops.

On a separate topic, do you think we have a realistic chance of getting Jordan Rhodes? His current form cannot be ignored, I really think in the long term he could be another Kris Boyd, 25 goals a season in the SPL no bother. We have to snap him up before the Premier League giants come sniffing.
I wouldn’t care if we don’t sign anyone in January as long as we get Rhodes- would be the best piece of business we have done for a long time (apart from Jelavic).

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Is that not why they are on trial, to see if they are good enough or not. It is time we started scouting for undiscovered talent in these far off places, who knows we might just discover a good one. The korean Park at man utd is a good example

Followfollow81, sorry I have to take you to task over your statement "no sectarian songs are sung at Ibrox" and "rangers fans police themselves" I took my two young nephews to both the Maribor and Malmo games. We were in the main stand and all I heard was sectarian bile from the supposed businessmen type fans in that stand. A man with two young girls about 10/11 asked a group behind him to stop their filth and was verbally abused, two stewards witnessed this, just laughed and did nothing. So FF81 your team more than most, have along, long way to go to cut out this behaviour. Timalloy

Believable1 Unbelievable4

I can only take your word for that Timalloy. Why didn't you say something? I know you had your nephews with you so could you not have told the police? I know if I was in your shoes I would have took the kids away from that situation and reported them if that was the case. Don't start picking on me Timalloy. It's not my fault Robbie Williams left take that lol. It wasn't my fault that take that split up. You should be happy they are back together lol.

Jings Timalloy but you are some trick mate, sweep sweep, deflect deflect. Your mask is slipping, rangers have cleanup up their act, suggest you lot do the same. Uefa had no concerns at these games, neither did your secret agents hence no action as no crime was committed.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think it's your team more than most Timalloy. It's your team that's up in the dock not ours. Why is it when Celtic/fans do something wrong all the Celtic fans get all paranoid and start all the conspiracy theory? It wasn't me it was them. We are bad but they are worse. It happens all the time. As I posted the other night I've not heard a sectarian song sung at Ibrox for a long time. The odd political song gets sung at the away games. But as I said Rangers fans have came on leaps and bounds regarding cutting out those songs. Celtic fans are singing sectarian/political songs home and away. The fans could have caused a riot at Tynecastle they battered the stewards. Could have caused a riot when they started fighting with the police at Hampden. But I do agree with you that both fans aren't blue eyed boys more so Celtic.

What do you read into the tax case fellow bears. I think it looks good the reason being Craig Whyte spending a fortune on installing new screens at Ibrox. Settling out of court with Captia trustees services. Doing all the maintenance work at Ibrox. The case was suppose to finish tomorrow but for some reason it goes into January. What is going on at our neighbours across the city? Under investigation for sectarian singing against Rennes and Hearts now Hibs. Battering the Hearts stewards fighting with the police the list goes on. Could you imagine if it was Rangers up for this? This site would be full of Celtic fans slagging us of for being sectarian bigots Scotland's shame. Well Celtic fans I know this will be hard for you to swallow but the it's really youse that are all this Shame On You. Glasgow Rangers Supporters have stopped all those songs. I think it's time for the Celtic fans to stop aswell. For goodness sake it's 2011. Keep up the good work Blue Order & Union Bears you have brought back a great atmosphere to Ibrox with your (non sectarian/bigoted) songs. Keep up the good work.

Stop kidding yourselfs on I've been to a few away games and the vile is still there both sets of fans are as bad as each other

Agree3 Disagree5

Well said the above poster it is certain elements of both sides that give the old firm a bad name. As for the op get your blue tinted specs off some of your lot are just as bad as some of ours. This is not a 1 sided thing.

Agree0 Disagree6

To the nameless posters. I go to every game and they are NO sectarian songs sung at Ibrox or even away games. So you get your green tinted glasses off. Get your own house in order before you start commenting on our great fans lol. Don't tar us with the same brush as Celtic.

Follow follow you must be so blinkered if you think no rangers fan sing those songs. Which team has been punished by UEFA for sectarian songs its not Celtic. I totally agree with the investigations that are ongoing at the moment with my team. However for you to say it doesnt happen with rangers you really need to take your head out the sand.

FF81, I remember at the last O/F game, a couple of guy's in the enclosure tried to start a few of the ditty's which are not allowed and were told in no polite manner to STOP, by many around them ! That was at an Old Firm game............ As for away games, I can't say as I don't manage to get to them, but I have heard one, or two that have made me cringe a bit, last game at Pittodrie for instance. It has however gotten much better. I can't really comment on our noisy neighbours, as I don't watch them, but I have heard a few guy's in work say that they are pretty bad at away games, but again, two wrongs don't make a right.......... It should all be banned ! Rangers 'Til I die

Agree0 Disagree0

My head is out the sand. But what I can tell you nameless poster my tongue was planted against my cheek oh and yes the cheek in my mouth lol. I've not heard any sectarian songs at Ibrox for a long time. What I said in my OP if it was Rangers up for all these charges against us youse would be giving it to us big time. So what I've said before leave our club out of it we have done nothing wrong. It's your club under investigation not ours. Not just for singing but for what happened at tynecastle and Hampden.
