My realistic opinion on where we should be by the end of the season. Finish 2nd in the league but compete enough to let "them" know were on the way back. A league cup or scottish cup trophy. Beat "them" at least once in the league and maybe a draw too. Kills me saying this but i'd genuinely be happy with that. Next season I expect more. Europa group stages and fight for title and the cups. Many won't agree but i'm trying to be realistic and it is purely my opinion.

18 Aug 2017 11:08:27
yes i'd like that aswell for this season and for next season to win it

17 Aug 2017 18:20:26
Not looking at form or results just player v player. If you compare Celtic 1st 11 against Rangers 1st 11. I don't think we are far of matching them quality player wise, however I concede we have a way to go with regards fluency of play and each player being 100% and very confident in their own ability. Their squad has been together for a good few years now with no challenge to knock the confidence. Once they get their arses felt in the champions league groups and a few defeats in the SPl they will be there for the taking, I hope.

17 Aug 2017 18:50:19
Trouble is mate as you say they have been together for a while most good teams have been! Look around Barcelona Madrid bayern they don't make wholesale changes ever year just add in a player or two! The spine of these sides have been together for years that's where our supporters need patience you can't throw 7/ 8 new signings into any side and expect to go and win titles against a unit that has been working together for a a while!

17 Aug 2017 19:55:45
We don't have any forwards in the same league as Sinclair, Dembele or Griffiths and bar Dorrans not one of our. midfielders could touch brown or Armstrong. We also can't add players like Ntcham. I hate saying it obviously but only 3/ 4 of our players would make their squad.

17 Aug 2017 20:14:53
NOT 1 player from your team would make our squad never mind first team and subs! Not trying to be funny just stating the truth.

17 Aug 2017 21:22:58
Chaps, I like Johny Hayes, no a bad player. However if he can get in the celtic team then surely all of the Rangers team could also. I will take my hat off to Cetic if they do well in the CL and if Armstrong and Griffith can perform at an international level on a consistent basis, again I will take might hat off, credit where its due they are good but how good. Until then realize the level these guys are at and don't get ahead of yourselves. I don't think any Scottish player is outstanding as they are not properly tested at a high level all the time. In the past both teams have had outstanding international players who produced at all levels, name some now in Scotland. Pena for Rangers if he gets back to his best and gets back in the Mexico team is one player in Scotland with real pedigree, Bruno no question but for how much longer. Craig Gordon would fit the bill. Kenny Miller I think is just shy of being outstanding, not scored enough. let's no get into a tit for tat slagging match, let's just hear other opinions from all sides and be sensible.

17 Aug 2017 23:56:50
Jonny Hayes would walk into our team. They just hammered Astana 5-0. Look i'm all for being positive but we still have a long way to go and expecting our team to be as good as Celtic is unfair. I think we underestimate them because we still remember how poor they played under Deila. But don't be mistaken, we are still a way off of Celtic but I would confidently say we are the second best team in the country which is progress from last year.

18 Aug 2017 00:12:28
Hayes is hopeless

18 Aug 2017 11:14:27
hayes for me won't get much game time this season as he isn't good enough to earn a place, usual celtic just buying the guys that might make them drop points

17 Aug 2017 17:47:59
We need a buyer Big club like Rangers surely someone with big bucks can try a project and get the club where it belongs!

17 Aug 2017 17:58:40
honestly?!? money money money, spend spend spend? Longing for the good old EBT days are ya?
Am more than happy living within our means. This is scottish football remember that.

17 Aug 2017 18:12:08
Sounds crazy and il get pelters, but I wouldn't want any far eastern or Arab zillionaire, we're a big enough circus at times! Yes some investors would be nice but the club must remain in the hands of someone who knows it, the guys at the helm are doing great a fine job! I love our club and would rather keep our history and tradition rather than go mega commercial with some rich sugar daddy! I'm a football fan and we are a football club money has ruined the game totally! Might sound old fashioned but that my two bobs worth

17 Aug 2017 18:40:47
you're in debt so you're not

17 Aug 2017 19:25:02
There is no money to be made in Scottish football that's why no billionaires have stepped in they go down south were they can spend but the clubs are also bringing in massive amounts of money if they were to buy a Scottish team it would be all spend and literally nothing coming back.

18 Aug 2017 10:50:07
Only way for a club like ours is fan ownership as we are the best fans in the world.

18 Aug 2017 11:19:29
look at porto they make about 40 million a year on thei own tv channel we need to be starter in buisness.

i do believe that we can only attract a certain level of player to scottish football so all this we will never be caught malarky is nonsense.

after one of two years in the champions legue / uefa cup we will be a lot stronger financiall and attract the some callibre of a player that they do

17 Aug 2017 14:35:51
Ryan Jack won his appeal all set to face Hearts

17 Aug 2017 12:32:44
If only we could turn the clock back 6 months. McInnes was the correct candidate and he was overlooked for pc. Unfortunately the directors made the wrong call. Results at end of last season especially old firm games coupled with the european results and hibs game back this up. Three of pcs signings (herrera pena and dalcio) don't look suited to scottish football. Dalcio especially looks out his depth and a waste of a wage. i hope i am wrong and pc is a success but as time passes by this is looking less likely. Expect lots to disagree but i'm afraid these are the hard facts

17 Aug 2017 12:55:30
Stevie lasts season results count for nothing. It was a team full of bread mans players. Need to remember we went up to Aberdeen and humped them and taken 6 of Hamilton, there was a few decent results in there! Damage was done by the time PC came in.
Don't really recall to many folk giving PC credit when we had decent results. McCinnes has done nothing as a manager! His team lost 3 cup finals last year and don't forget he had a crack at England with Bristol and got them relegated. Rangers job is far to soon for him!
Granted Hibs game wasn't ideal but we were bossing it until the sending off. Need to disagree with the signings, Herrera looks a handful (target man type) and Dalcio will take time. Pena hasn't even kicked a ball yet so don't know how you can say de doesn't look suited to our game. What about the other signing that look good?! Alves? Cardoso? Jack? Candeias? Dorrans? Morelos? Don't see many folk dishing out praise for bringing these guys to our club.

Remember we are only a few weeks in to the season!
Rome wasn't built in a day and I have no doubt we will mount a challenge this year! It's about time folk backed out club and stopped bumping their gums about the gaffer.

17 Aug 2017 13:33:44
I agree that Dalcio doesn't look up to standard but he's a loan signing so it doesn't really count. herera looks a good player from what iv seen and once we get going he will be an asset as does morelos.

how you can say anything about pena is a mystery because he's hardly played.

Jury is still out for me on PC also but I think that we had to think outside the norm for the appointment. Would mcinnes have got us Alves, Cardosa and candias? probably not.

He would be shopping in the same market as we were last year, lower leagues in England where there's hardly any value.

17 Aug 2017 14:29:57
bigandy, we've hardly got a right to say anything about Pena because he hasn't played? We've got every right because we paid so much money for a player who's hardly played! So he arrived unfit, he needs time to settle in, the culture shock is too great and what about the expectations of the fans? Pay the Mexican club the asking rate but don't give Hearts and Aberdeen their valuations of Walker and McLean, players we know will make a difference. We had 'in Warbs we trust' last season and now getting the Pedro version of the same. Trust is earned, not given.

17 Aug 2017 15:18:55
If we are still in the same position come November then I will start to think what if, but right now we are still a new team trying to gel together. I don't need to give you a list of players who took time to settle in and turned out to be outstanding players for Rangers.

I have faith in what Pedro is trying to do, you cannot judge a manager on a handful of competitive games. Ally McCoist looked like he had the title won after a few months at the helm and look how that turned out. Also Dalcio needs games to have any chance of showing us what he can do, we all had Windass out the door a few weeks ago but look at him now.

On another note: I would be tempted to drop Jack for Rossiter, from the little I seen of Rossiter last season he looked like he could be something special. Jack has done nothing wrong since joining but Rossiter playing at his full potential beats Jack for me. (bring on the clicks of the disagreee button :-) )

17 Aug 2017 16:08:25
I have noticed over the past weeks a bit of an over reaction to the start of the season. Rangers are two games in and already a select few are hitting the panic button. We were down to 10 men last week and so bound to struggle against a team like Hibs. You only have to look at Chelsea who also struggled against Burnley with two players dismissed. If you expect Rangers to win every game and not concede a single goal then you are living in la la land. Please be a bit more positive and if we are struggling after Christmas then yes complain.

17 Aug 2017 17:39:51
Stevie, they are not hard facts! They are your opinion

17 Aug 2017 18:18:27
Other than the European disaster that came when we had 50/ 50 of Warbs and Caixinhas squad I have been impressed this season. We followed up a credible and deserved draw with Marseille with away wins to Premiership Watford and Wednesday 1 of Championships better sides with a good away win at Motherwell and a thrashing of Dunfermline who won on penalties V Hearts at Tynecastle before beating Inverness after they played us.
Until the red card we were the better side against a decent Hibs side, we had the best chances and had the ref done his job we would have hammered them with 10 men. I'm sure we will beat Hearts and continue to improve.
The bulk of his signings are already playing well and Pena hasn't kicked a ball really so can hardly be fairly judged and is now on individual training regime to get him up to speed, Dalcio is a loan player for cover and again hasn't played much and Herrara has played well as far as I'm concerned.
It's early to judge but all I will say is I feel far more confident of scoring goals and creating chances now and more confident defending corners so let's wait and see how we do true blues

17 Aug 2017 18:22:51
Rossiter done absolutely zero last year to look like he could be special! Jack has probably been our best player so far.

17 Aug 2017 21:05:48
I would play Jack at right back, put Rossiter in as the defensive midfielder and put Tav in right midfield. Jack is defensively minded and can read the game. Rossiter, if fit, is the best we have in that position and Tav is much better attacking than defending. Thoughts?

18 Aug 2017 01:27:39
Great post theglasgowranger, I'd agree with every word of that

18 Aug 2017 05:01:31
Pretty sure when he was linked in the press he said he wasn't interested anyway? Obviously he is the Aberdeen manager and maybe obliged to say that but I don't think he fancied the rebuilding job and probably knowing unless you win the league your not a successful rangers manager.

18 Aug 2017 11:22:26
way to give the team time stevie! what an idiot pena dalcio and haven't really had much of a shout as yet and i will agree herera was a mistake his track record speaks for itself

17 Aug 2017 10:08:18
What's the deal with walker? Says he's ready to play against us at the weekend, also what about McLean? Not heard anything about him in a while

17 Aug 2017 10:10:36
Wont get either of them. At best we'll get a loan deal courtesy of new DoF.

17 Aug 2017 10:56:57
The deal with Walker is that he was too distracted by our offers for him to focus on training 100% and was dropped and is suddenly ready and able to try tear us apart on Saturday. Not willing to pay the asking price. Anyone know what we paid for Pena?!

17 Aug 2017 11:37:29
More than double the asking price for walker and if pena doesn't come in and do a job then questions must be asked as to why he was our most expensive signing

17 Aug 2017 13:32:44
i do not think we will sign anyone else europe was a big factor in our transfer plans and we all no what happend there
i do wonder about the fees paid for some of the players i feel these may have beeen inflated
for the team to progress we need sort the lb and rb postions

17 Aug 2017 19:57:51
does pena and walker play in the same position?
