I posted here around 4 weeks ago telling you that I heard inside whispers that Gordon Smith was going to become the new chairman at Rangers, and I got an overwhlming unbelievable, lol

.... Well he has just been named as Director of Football at Ibrox. There was some substance in what I was hearing. Do I get a gold star?

Why do people persist with those unfounded rumours? I won't go mad like other fans seem to do about a rumour page because it is all just people giving their own opinons but people coming out with random players is stupid. Whatever happens, no matter if our dependable players (happened in the recent history top goalscorer Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller) leave, the great Rangers football club will always continue to propser.

Not a rumour as such but after reading the interview with Whyte (taken from official website) on the banter page I was just wondering if now, with Smith back in, will we start tying up loose ends with transfers and get a couple new boys on the books!? Conway is a must for me, Rate him massively and if we lose out now I'll be gutted. He is what we have missed for a while, a ticking time bomb on the left of midfield. Bring it on Lemon!

I think ally should have a wee look at milan badelj a central midfielder that plays for hadjuk split in croatia he is both footed, can pick passes and has a great shot similar to eremenko but much better he is currently valued at 5,000,000,000 by his club there has been talk of interest from tottenham also he is also only 22 so it would be a great steal. Wat u think Ed-

{Ed010's Note -My friend, £5b for a 22 year old is just a bit much lol. Seriously though, I know nothing about this player so it would be unfair for me to comment.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree 100% , this man has bags of talent but i'm sure with all his talent there will be loads of clubs chasing his tail.

RANGERS owner Craig Whyte has announced two keynote appointments with Gordon Smith and Ali Russell joining the club in major roles.

Former Rangers treble-winning star Smith is becoming the Director of Football while Russell is the new Director of Operations and Commercial Activity.

Whyte has moved swiftly to bring in people he feels will be huge assets to Rangers as he strives to build upon the fantastic Championship success of last season.

Smith, of course, was chief executive of the SFA and has a sound knowledge of the game in Scotland and in Europe while Russell recently worked for Queen's Park Rangers in England.

Seventies star Smith will be based at Murray Park and will be responsible for the scouting system as well as transfer dealings while also overseeing the operation at the academy.

Russell will be based at Ibrox and will run the operation from there looking to build the commercial vitality of the club.

Speaking exclusively to the official web site Whyte said: "I'm delighted that Gordon and Ali are with us and I think they will be key appointments for us.

"Gordon has a wealth of experience in football administration from his role with the SFA and his contacts in UEFA.

"He has a great Rangers background having been a key player in the 1970s for the club and I'm sure the fans will be delighted with his appointment.

"Gordon will be running things at Murray Park but he also has a good knowledge on the commercial side which is a great benefit.

"He will be working with the scouting set-up and also on transfers.

"Ali did a great job at QPR and he will be working with the management team we have at Ibrox.

"Due to my many business commitments I am unable to work at Rangers every day so Ali will be carrying out that aspect of things."

hi ed can you or anyone update me on the tomer hemed deal?

{Ed010's Note -Hemed has met with Ally and is away to consider the offer and will give his answer next week.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

17 Jun 2011 21:52:02
Have read various times about Jermaine Defoe possibly signing, and althought it seems a long shot, I think it would be a great signing and would also sort of make sense for both parties. It's obvious what he would bring to us, but what we could offer him is first team football at the highest level (Champions League). He's out of favour at Tottenham, therefore losing his place with England also. A season at a lower level would be ideal for him to boost his confidence. He would score 30+ in the SPL. And Fabio Capello has never shyed away from picking players outside the Premiership (ie Jay Bothroyd when he was with Cardiff.) As I said, its a long shot, but a short term move here could be in his best interests. Bellamy & Keane done it with Celtic, and both of them are as big if not bigger names than Jermaine Defoe, while Bellamy has also done it with Cardiff recently, so why not?

Any thoughts on my point Ed?

{Ed010's Note -I agree nothing is impossible but with Arsenal sniffing around and being rumoured to have agreed a transfer fee of £10m and willing to meet his current wages of £60k, we just can't compete.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

17 Jun 2011 21:47:17
Does anyone know if Whyte plans to fill in the corners (where the screens are) to make Ibrox more of a bowl? Would add to the atmosphere although realistically we've struggled to fill the stadium as it is! Would look good though!

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Although Whyte has pledged some cash into Ibrox for stadium update/refurbishment I think it will be mainly on small subtle things like making sure we don't have an embarrassing repeat of the call of in the winter for "frozen pipes" basically. As a youth player who recently played on the all weather surface behind Ibrox but used the stadium to change as part of the Cup Final I don't think much needs done on the face of the changing rooms etc, top notch facilities as expected and the stadium tour was amazing. Pity the "bad guys" haven't got a stadium still steeped in history and tradition to go to every weekend. WATP

Agree0 Disagree0

I think maintenance to the existing structure will be his priority in terms of the stadium.

a friend of mine is friendly with Steve Rowley who is the chief scout at arsenal. according to this friend the guy will be in germany over the next few weeks and will try to get a look at jamie ness while rangers are over. there will be no bid just now just to track him i think.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would be easier for him to watch Ness in Scotland in a proper competitive game. There will be many occasions next season when Rangers and Arsenal play on different days.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

He rejected these offers did he not?

Agree1 Disagree0

I think Hemed will come to Rangers, yes seems like we're facing competition but he has himself stated his desire to play for the great Glasgow Rangers. If we offer him a decent wage instead of just trying to underestimate him then the champions will be his destination. Let's hope we are not undone by a couple of grand, seemed to happen afew times with some great possible signings (Chris Eagles) springs to mind.

Guys, when the story broke about Gordon Smith's appointment, I published the first 2 or 3 posts that were received, in order to allow other Rangers fans, to be aware of the story. Since then, there has been numerous other posts supplying the same detail. I have also received some other posts with views and opinions on the appointment.

As with other newsworthy posts, I have decided to take just one of the "informational" posts and added to that, other posts with a view or opinion on the story. I will be placing the entire thread into the Banter section, so that contributors don't need to keep copying the original information.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Gordon Smith is to be appointed director of football at Rangers. From 2007-2010 Smith held the position of chief executive at the Scottish FA and previously played for Rangers from 1977-1980

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Good, Gordon Smith is a good Rangers man, i'm not implying that's an instant recipe for success, but we've came a long way recently despite fianances and a hard time due to having so many Rangers men involved with our club. Think he'll do well in the role. With heart and voice. We are the people!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

gordon smith will be a good appointment after his ideas and experiance with sfa, also a bluenose which helps. where are the signings which everybody keeps saying are happening

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hmmm why Gordon Smith I wonder. What will he bring to the club this time?

Big Rangers fan and every transfer window for years this site has been addictive, love the banter also, I don't have any rumours as such but just want to say well done, I can't imagine the work that goes into this and the unpaid man hours that are dedicated (or should I say medicated) to keep the site operational and constantly updated
All the moaners and the complainers should button it, don't you have a wee donation box that would help keep the site moving, not a lot of cash but if everyone donated even 50p through say paypal.
WIZARD {Ed001's Note - a lot keep suggesting that, when the site was losing money we put one up, but nowadays the sites pay for themselves and I am working on getting more advertising in. I would rather advertisers paid than users!}

To be honest I think McManus is rubbish, I don't rate him as a defender, but if we can't get Cuellar which doesn't look likely atleast he's experienced of the SPL instead of bringing in some young foreigner or something. He would do as a stop in until we could get Cuellar next season at the end of his contract!

Not a rumour or gossip or anything like that. Just wanted to say that Steven Naismith was at Hamilton Palace Sports Grounnds earlier this evening to present certificates to the kids of Blantyre Boys Club and he was an absolute credit to Rangers. He watched the boys (ages 6-8) train, participated in training, took questions from the kids and us coaches, posed for photographs, signed autographs and couldn't have been nicer. All the kids, and us coaches, a good percentage of us Celtic fans, were delighted with him turning up and taking such an active part. A truly good guy, great player and, like I say, a credit to the club.

Mickbhoy

Believable7 Unbelievable0

It's refreshing to hear of an old firm player putting something back into the game especially with the future generation of stars, and even more so that a fan from the other side has taken the time to compliment Naisy for it. Its not often I say it but Mickbhoy YOU are a credit to your own club.
Gwak1873

Agree6 Disagree0

That's a nice thing to say mate, thank you. I also sent an e-mail to the official Rangers website in the feedback section. Was nice to hear him talk to the kids. One of them was really shy so I gave him a question to ask Steven, to ask him who his heroes were growing up. He replied tht it was Ally McCoist, Brian Laudrup and Gazza and that he still gets a kick from watching footage of them. Also he spoke so highly of Davie Weir and of what an influence he is at Rangers. Like I say, a genuine guy and I truly wish him all the best.

Most of the comments on here are pure speculation. Someone posted a few days ago that nothing will happen until the window lifts not strictly true but prudent managers wait and see. The Bosmans or frees are Conway Hamed and Danns. 2 of them I am told are already agreed. The obvious Cuellar link is not a priority of Ally although he likes him .Once Whittaker signs a fresh contact look for the loan signings at defence or Cuellar. The rest - the big stuff will not be until mid July at the earliest - so Fellow Bears relax and enjoy our rivals trying to sign a team of midfielders. people need to understand £5m a year into the team includes wages, thus you must sell to buy!!!!!!!!!!

City fan

=====================================

It just shows you know nothing... we have 12 for the first year the 5 for the next 4. the current wages is 5 he is putting it back up to ten, which is sepret from the transfer budget. also Mcgregor has said he wants to sign new deal at rangers... click believe and unbelievible if you believe me or not. not the one above!

You are actually both wrong. The 12 you speak of for this season is 5 on transfers, 5 on wages and 2 on the stadium.

yet again yall got Pwnd, and Should Learn To Know Your Facts Before Posting. Well Said GovanFR. Whats The 2Mill On The Stadium Being Used For? Larger Capacity?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The 2million is going towards the tannoy system which is close to death, the toilets and the food stalls.

I believe the capacity will be sorted in the next five years and the screens will go.

Agree1 Disagree1

I don't know about the food stalls or toilets but can confirm that the tannoy PA system is a priority. Rangers were due to replace this some 2 years ago when they done the dugouts, scoreboards etc but they simply had no money to do this.

The screens wont be going. they will be repaired. i would be very very surprised if the stadium capacity was increased. if it was it would be other 2 corners filled in or 3rd tier on the govan stand.

Any news on the paraguayan midfielder Marcelo Estigarribia from Le Mans? i heard his name rumoured at the same time as Neil Danns, but Danns has been publicised more in the press. Have Rangers dropped their interests Ed?

{Ed010's Note - My understanding is that although Marcelo Estigarribia is a Le Mans player, he is currently on loan at Newell's Old Boys in Argentina. His loan period expires with them on 30th June, when he'll return to Le Mans for the final year of his contract. Having said that the Le Mans director has publicly stated that if Rangers are genuinely interested, then they (Le Mans) will not be hard to deal with.

why would anyone in thier right mind SAY that mgregor is going anywhere for the pennies they are saying,

3 - 4 mil eh = BS, hes worth alot than that. at least 7mil, the teams down south are paying millions for fringe players.

ALLY WOULD BE DAFT TO LET HIM GO FOR ANY LESS AND SHOULD BE STATING ANYONE WANTS HIM ITS GONY COST ££££££££.

I think Mcgregor has became the best keeper in the uk. Alexander is also a superb keeper . mcgregor has been pushed by so called class keepers and pushed them out the road . it would be a sad loss if he goes . settle for nothing less than 10 million , Alexander steps up to number 1 bring in another class keeper ie Blackpool lad or turner foc

Dont see the cuellar deal happening now as for me he is still their best centre half....would love him back though esp if we could persuade boughy to stay

if we go down the route of either bartley (my preference) or wilson on loan then would like to see Ally maybe bringing in another experienced centre half.......faye on a free from stoke??? 32-33 big mountain of a man, comfortable on the ball and dominating in the air......

conway for me looks like good business as he can play either side or off the front - hope to get this tied up soon.

Not too sure about Danns?? would have liked to see abit more quality.......think we should have offered more for Vaughn from blackpool as he is a cracking player......

Still think Weiss is likely to come back on loan.....another few i would love to see from City on loan are boyata and johnson (if fit)......would be good experience for both.....

Not sure goodwillie will sign due to the off the field issues......anyone think bothroyd would be a good fit?? mobile target man to play with Jelavic......although lafferty is beginning to fall into that category.....

not sure about the faddy chat as he is big septic fan.....would be a great signing tho.

(2)Celtic FC do not 'buy' or 'sign' players. They 'finally complete' deals. The hugely dull nature of this event should be emphasised at all times by using at least one of the following terms 'protracted' 'long-running' and 'drawn out affair'.

Why oh why are we offering peanuts when we aren't paying a transfer fee?? Doesn't make any sense at all?? We need players desperatley!!

Just seen the early edition sun Alan smith rumour is bull as usual just cause he wore a rangers top on holiday 10 years ago doesn't mean he will join us!!

He was also at the uefa cup final mingling with the rangers supporters wearing red, white and blue colours! Would jump at the chance to join rangers

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Trust me he is a rangers fan i sit at the main stand rear i can remember when rangers were playing the septic about 6 years ago allan smith lee bowyer and rio ferdinand were jumping up and down singing the billy boys fact

right all u gers fans if you want to put the question of is hemed any good to bed, go to you tube type the boys name im and check out the 11 min vid of all his goals last season. the boy looks a smashing player and has got a good touch and finnish on him. gers need strikers hemed for free is a good one.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Watched the video last week and gota say the boy is a bargain on a free transfer for us. looks a decent bit of business if we can finally get it completed - whyte and mccoist need to get the finger out

Ed mate heard youngster from st mirren kenny mclean signing for rangers ? you heard anything ?

{Ed010's Note -I've not heard anything about any transfer but I would be surprised if Ally was looking, at this stage of his career, to bring him to the club that he supported as a boy.

Saw this on the main rumours page last night:

"Torres to Rangers on loan until January to rediscover his form. Chelsea are willing to pay his wages as long as he gets his confidence back to help them win trophies in the new year. The one drawback for Rangers is that he won't be allowed to play in the Champions League so he's not cup-tied.

This could be a great deal for both clubs as he could help Rangers get off to a great start to the season and then return to Chelsea with confidence sky-high. He could end up with a league winners' medal in two countries in one season!"

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Lmfao......really.....really......really

smith is signing for leeds

mcgregor £4m villa

hemed in free

people need to understand £5m a year into the team includes wages, thus you must sell to buy!!!!!!!!!!

City fan

--------------------------------------------------

City fan you have been misinformed the wage bill has went up £4 million from last year. From 14 million to 18 million plus the wage bill at the moment is less than 14 million due to players leaving.

For a start McGregor is worth double your above valuation so no way he will go for £4 mill plus he wants to stay, and how do you know how much money is available to spend and whats its to be used for ??????? nobody up here knows so dont think you will mate.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Possibly £4 million plus Cuellar? Remember fellow Gers McGregor only has a year left on his contract so we won't get what he is really worth unless we extend his contract.

GovanFR

Agree0 Disagree0

GovanFR, McGregor's got 2 years left on his contract. So your valuation is incorrect.

lolz good story bro

Aye 3Mill Mate Quadroople thath And We Will Still Turn It Down :)

McGinn :)

Lets be realistic lads, if we are offered 9-10m for McGregor he is gone. and rightly so. Alexander will be an able deputy and that money would go a long way towards new contracts for top players, new transfers and also potentially HMRC.

Alos, talk of Alan Smith scares me. He hasnt been very good in England for the past 3-4 years and as far as i am concerned his wages would be too much considering there are cheaper, more talented SCOTTISH options out there.

Regards,

A REALISTIC Gers fan.

..............

And you, good sir, must understand that we are not all ignorant and/or stupid and that the vast majority of us with any common sense whom follow our beloved club will be well aware of the financial situation as ambiguous as it may currently be.

We know it includes wages, hence the pessimism of so many Bears.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Mate 5 million on players and 5 mill on wages!! that's about 5 players on 20k per week. This was the sticking point remember when the board wanted more invested in the first season. Now this is just my opion based on facts stated by the board. Not just made up crap from the above guy's.

Gotta laugh at all the Mcgregor going to Villa/Sunderland/mid table epl teams.
Not a chance of him leaving for anything less than 8/9M+!
citeh fan who said Villa will get him for 4M no chance. Were ten times the club 90% of the overhyped epl clubs are and if we had the money you lot have we would be in the top five clubs in the world!
Anyway we already play in the best club competition most years, thats the CHAMPIONS league! WATP

People talk rubbish if Conway failed a medical with Rangers how could he be on the brink of signing elsewhere, all clubs have Medicals. Also Alex McLeish has apparently said he won't sell Cuellar because he's the best defender at Villa (Scottish Sun) had a feeling that would be reported. McLeish always seems to want Rangers' best players and won't sell to Rangers, he can f******. Keep Bougie and sign Bartley we'll be fine. Here we go 4-iar. Watp.

Hartson failed his wi rangers & celic got him!!!!!!! turned out to be a good bit o business.

Anyone else think it is likely that McLeish will want McGregor at Villa, perhaps we could do deal where we get £6 million plus Cuellar.

GovanFR

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Shagger is our best player, I'd be beyond reluctant to let him go regardless of the context. I'm not one for being able to put an accurate price tag estimation on people but I'd want at least 8-10Mil for him...And even then...Also, I dont rate Cuellar enough

Rangers to sign goal keeper Alex smithies from Huddersfield as back up for Alan mcgregor

----------------------------
why when we have alexander more made up BS

smithies is a good young keeper! alexander may be as goood or better ! but is gettin old :)

so ur saying u just made it up coz u think he is a good young keeper an not that ally does jog on pal

So far in this transfer window Rangers have already signed a young keeper from Linfield(bought same time as the twin defenders from Man City). It was qouted that he was "one for the future". On top of Neil Alexander and Grant Adam, Wayne Drummond and Gary Inglis, Id say were covered for now and the future

-----------------------------------------------------

The boy we bought from linfield is Josh Robinson and he is a centre back not a goalkeeper. Wayne Drummond was released by rangers. So there may be a chance we are looking at Alex smithies but I do not know. Do we have enough cover?
