What does everybody think about summer football. I reckon we should play in the summer.

02 Dec 2015 00:56:13
Tradition and weather, 2 of the main reasons why football should be played predominantly through the winter months. What length of term would the "summer" season be? March to October? Do you believe that the football powers to be would be singing the praises of a Summer Old Firm Derby on the 12th of July? The traditional new year fixture which should, return in 2017 is always, one to enjoy. I know we as, a nation haven't done well in European or World Football tournaments over the last few years but such competitions rightly rule the summer and not the SPFL.

This argument always raises it's head every now and again but apart from the odd bit of expected rough winter weather, professional football clubs in this, day and age should be able to provide safe and satisfactory stadia and playing surfaces to ensure winter football throughout this, period. It's, a great debate and I'm sure we could all agree with most of the reasons for and against whatever the side. I just thought I'd answer the original post. Next year I will welcome the summer break in anticipation of Premier league football. :) C'mon the gers!

Personally I think summer football would be a good idea in Scotland as long as there was a one month summer break to cover the kids holidays, euros and World Cup. I believe it would get more fans through the turnstiles and better TV revenue for clubs as they won't always be competing with epl. Clubs would also be more prepared for champ/euro qualification. New year games? I can live without them.

02 Dec 2015 14:53:24
summer football would be difficult because the summer hols differ. edinburgh, glasgow, kilmarnock etc and with the uefa preliminaries start in july. but it's probably worth a try again or maybe even a winter break. but that would maybe be sore on some clubs cashflow. it's a very difficult thing to manage, even some more evening games in the good weather might be better. what would help would be less international breaks. all the international games should be at either end of the sesaon or at the beginning.

Our season runs with top leagues in europe. note that we're not a top league. i don't think summer football is a good idea but definitely start the league earlier to help the teams in european competitions and have a couple of week winter shut down. our league doesn't need to run into May as we will never reach a european cup final for years.

Starting XI vs Dumbarton: Foderingham, Tavernier, Ball, Kiernan, Wallace, Holt, Halliday, Zelalem, McKay, Clark, Waghorn.

i'm sure if MW became too tempted by an offer, then surely Big Eck is the answer?
MW's family AND Davie Weirs family still live down south, and i don't think either will stay for the long term, surely even in the football world your family comes first?
They have done a great job so far and have laid the foundations well, another manager coming in, particularly of Ecks calibre would be able to build from that.

01 Dec 2015 20:32:09
wee bill not macleish there are better managers than him much better.

01 Dec 2015 22:28:35
For all those who think macleish is the answer, this is the man who put big Marv up front in a European game. If it's boring clueless football get davie moyes. we won't lose goals but we won't score any either. after all the good stuff that Warburton has had us playing without spending much money, do we want players in like capucho again? I certainly don't we must build on what we have not destroy it.

01 Dec 2015 22:37:25
Wee bill warns saying after tonight's game In his opinion Fulham are being disrespectful to rangers, and if that comment doesn't tell you something then what can I say, I honestly think warbs will be at our club for years to come, unless maybe in a couple of years, one of the e.p.l. clubs come in for him, he will be here beyond his current deal.

plus I can't see a bigger club coming in for him as he has yet to prove himself. I just wish people would stop all the rumours about it. newspapers spill this stuff for one reason only, and that is to sell newspapers.

01 Dec 2015 23:31:10
Gary, mw is going know where for a few years yet, IMHO.

01 Dec 2015 14:16:05
Home draw in Scottish Cup v Cowdenbeath or Arbroath.

01 Dec 2015 17:35:21
Why should we go backwards? If we were appointing a new boss? Eck won the treble fair enough. Done it on defensive football took Scotland to 14th in the world on defensive football. Now there is a reason we play attacking football, because the days of the grizzled hard tackling Scottish center backs gone who could as easily play midfield. So give me a younger guy with fresh ideas and more recent contacts in the game One day SAF will be gone to lift the phone to when he is in trouble. Games moving on to in the UK since he has been in Belguim.

Wee ally, ? What's that post about mate.

{Ed033's Note - Looks like Wee Ally meant to reply to another post

02 Dec 2015 16:03:52
Was for Wee Bill.

01 Dec 2015 13:37:00
Warburton is a man of hounor and integrity he is a wealthy man he will be here till his contract is up we now have people he trusts as his backroom staff I can't see him going anywhere and if a player leaves for the right money he will have players he will replace them with just a few months ago we had a team that was old and did not care now we are top scored nearly double the goal that hibs have and if hibs have a blip soon we can put distance between us w w we trust.

01 Dec 2015 14:46:53
I think he's realising he's made a blunder coming here.
I think he under-estimated the off-field pressure despite big Weirs efforts to make sure he knew what he was getting into.
He was genuinely shocked at the backlash from an away draw, throw in all the EBT carry on, Ashley, court cases, his family choosing to stay down south and not least the bookies installing him as favourite. I just think his head has been turned and he's looking for a way out. I really hope I'm wrong though.

Is there any part of your tongue not firmly connected to your cheek?

01 Dec 2015 16:07:25
Waingro

What do you base that on? Or are you taking the p**s?

01 Dec 2015 16:49:37
That's your taxi at the door braingone.

02 Dec 2015 12:29:08
"What do you base that on? "

Just an opinion, I would guess. The same as the OP saying "Warburton is a man of hounor and integrity". Does he know him personally? But, because it was a positive post, people let it pass. But dare to have a negative opinion and the mob will be after you.

How ironic the two old firm bosses from 2011 suffered similar fates in there managerial carears. lennon leaving a celtic team he could take no further to try out the richer pastures on offer south of the border offers weren't as lucrative or frequent as expected and now in a position where no funds available to pay wages etc. the super salery era at rangers was financialy rewarding for the legend but was a far cry from what he expected as manager of our famous club relegation liquidation and a loss of respect by many supporters for poor managment and greedy actions. a lot can happen in 4 and a half year.

01 Dec 2015 12:14:05
Difference is that Ally should and could have done better with the squad and cash at his disposal but didn't whilst Lennon is just a crap manager!

01 Dec 2015 18:34:04
DOIGER I think you are criticising Lennon BECAUSE he's Lennon, but in fairness he didn't do that bad a job at Porkheid.
Hovever, i do agree with your comments re "super ally"
He hid behind Walter and was utter mince as a manager. Remember he lost us a championship when he was 15 points ahead and the rest that followed is history.
Hope MW and DW stay a while but i fear they will be head hunted before the job is finished.
