20 Mar 2016 19:02:05
After watching both the Tyneside and Manchester derbies today it has made me look forward to the impending old firm game this year and the minimum 4 next year all the more. I've never been impressed with English derbies, they throw up the odd cracker but are mostly a let down. No passion whatsoever in comparison to ours.
Say what you will about the negative aspects of our game but it definitely leads to a white hot atmosphere. I for one am not to big or proud to say i've missed it.

20 Mar 2016 19:23:28
Doesn't help when City field a team full of mercenaries who have next to no passion for the club. Not even sure anyone in their team supported Man City as a boy. Truly awful game with some terrible players on big money.

20 Mar 2016 19:55:42
The Sunderland game was all kick and rush with a number of dubious challenges that in Scotland would have resulted in red cards, especially if we had been on the receiving end.

Man City has deteriorated as a club with too many posers and sadly that meant that today they lost to the Mancs., which for me is never a good thing. A team I dislike, almost on a par with Celtic!

20 Mar 2016 20:04:46
There was a couple of flare ups in the Manchester Derby but more personal than passionate.

21 Mar 2016 10:29:13
The minute the city boss said he was sacked for pep g they have been rank, I wonder if most have been told they are not in the clubs plans for next year and they have chucked it, I can't believe how much they have deteriorated since then, but that's modern day football.

21 Mar 2016 13:17:55
Good points folks
A lot of people down here knock Scottish football, it might not be to the best of standard, compared to some other countries, but the passion is second to none in my opinion. And the old firm game is certainly catching the imagination of a lot of folk down here, because everyone I speak to all know it's coming up, and are looking forward to it. As Terry Butcher once said, don't knock Scottish football until you've tried it.

21 Mar 2016 14:42:28
Good words English bear and very true. Speak to a lot of English guys in the pub who've moved up here and fell in love with one half of the old firm.
Don't get me wrong I watch nearly every EPL game I can, the standard compared to up here is night and day. But we do provide something different.
Would hope to see some of the extra money from the EPL filter it's way up here through player sales etc, maybe give the game up here a shot in the arm it needs.
But the derbies just don't match up to the intensity up here for me. It's maybe the over inflated price of a ticket or something down south, keeping the real working class supporters from being in the majority. Or simply the whole religious thing as much as we hate it probably does add that extra spice. Who knows. Either way roll on this semi final and all the games against them next year. Win or lose it will be a spectacle.

20 Mar 2016 15:54:58
We MUST do something about shutting the back door, not sure if that means new personnel or adopting a different style of play. 2 zip up and losing is not where we should be.

20 Mar 2016 16:37:48
I think we need new C. B as competition at least for Wilson. Definitely need a R. B to rest Tav.

20 Mar 2016 17:08:10
Rafbob

Tavernier isn't the answer at right back. He is very weak defensively and is too easily beaten by championship wingers. Shudder to think what he would be like in the premiership.

20 Mar 2016 17:32:26
I think you are right Biffo but that's his spot?

Where would you put him? He could move up to play on the wing and Mckay as we have seen can move around to the benefit of the team but I don't see that as the best choice.

If we got a more experienced R. B or even more defensively minded one that might force the manager to look at it more. He is a good player but I agree he isn't a defensive one.

20 Mar 2016 18:25:11
We are lacking a top quality defensive midfield player and have been all season and Danny Wilson is not the answer at centre back.

Yes, Tavernier can be caught in defence but he is a danger to all opposition defences with his forward runs.

A lot of or problems would be solved if we had a quality centre back in the Weir, Butcher Gough mould and a defensive midfield player in the style of Greig, Roberts etc.

I suspect that our management team might well be looking for a couple of old heads perhaps in both of these positions for our return to the SPL.

20 Mar 2016 18:32:38
Yes guys can't disagree with any of you regarding tavernier who's a terrific player going forward, I think he'd be a lot more suited to playing one forward in a right mid role where fernando ricksen used to play for us after he'd also played a spell at right back for us when we first signed him, we should sign a right back which would allow us to move tav into a right mid role.

20 Mar 2016 18:38:17
If we could get any sort of fee for him I would take it.

20 Mar 2016 19:39:56
I agree with Warb, Biffo I think we can do a great deal with Tav in the team and I wouldn't be so quick to sell him.

If we did what Warb is suggesting, he could end up being a very good attacking player. (he can even still have a go at defending now and then lol! )

20 Mar 2016 20:55:55
Have to say I think a quality dm and cb would more than cover for tav going forward and likewise Wallace, those 2are a great weapon that not a lot of teams can cope with on their game.

21 Mar 2016 00:52:23
I feel Danny Wilson is becoming the whipping boy. He is actually coming on to a decent game recently and think he will improve a lot more. The style we play makes the CB look dodgy at time cause we playing it out from the back where as normal our CB will just launch it to row Z. I much prefer this style of play that the year of rubbish we have watched long may it continue.

21 Mar 2016 06:21:48
Do we seriously have to go through this every time we lose or draw? (Which is a massive umm 8 times? ) We have just come of the back of our best defensive run in the whole campaign and played against a good side. Cover at RB? We have it in Aird who is getting game time at a decent level and the young McCrorie. Defensive midfielder? We have that in the shape of Crooks coming in the summer and we need to look no further than our young talent. Gasparotto is playing well for Greenock and Brownlie is getting game time on loan to a CB.

21 Mar 2016 10:25:02
Since September a case could be made for resting Tav. Until then his value was in accurate dead ball and shooting in general. Since then his shots do not only go over the bar but almost out of the park.
The main problem however is his total inability to tackle. Rather than looking at the ball he simply throws himself in the general direction of the attacking player. How many fouls has he given away?
In my view, there isn't a CB in the country who can cover for him and a lot of the criticism of the CB's we have is due to a total lack in confidence when being attacked down our right side.
That being said I defend the above in the name of 'everyone is entitled to their view'.

21 Mar 2016 10:33:23
My god we lost a game on Friday night and we're back to being crap again, these results happen even to the best teams, listen I know we need to strengthen in the summer but so does warburton and strengthen we will, it's not all bad the players have been first class all year and I can't wait till we win this league so the players can get the plaudits they deserve.

21 Mar 2016 11:53:49
I think a decent CDM will hopefully sort out a lot of our defensive problems, it's not hallidays position. Someone schooled in this position will cover for Wallace/ Tavernier and it will make the whole back 4 seem more solid. Hopefully Crooks is that man.
Think for the Hibs and Celtic games coming up Ball must play there and Halliday and Holt in front of him, we are far more solid that way.

21 Mar 2016 14:05:40
Yip recbob, that's my view exactly! Halliday has done well covering that position but I feel moving him to more attacking duties will, whereas a naturally defence minded dm will free up our 2 fullbacks to attack whilst adding that extra cover for our 2 cb.

21 Mar 2016 15:02:44
would love to see Tav given a couple of games right mid field, sure he can get skint with good winger at full back, but if he had everything we would not have got him, i really believe he would do a great job pushed into midfield.

{Ed039's Note - We don't play with a right midfielder though, we play with 3 narrow in midfield with 2 striker playing wide as wingers so that doesn't really work does it?)

21 Mar 2016 15:27:57
Ed, sorry but hate to think we can only play one way all the time.

{Ed039's Note - Warburton has made it clear that he wont deviate from his style of play, plan B is to do plan A better are his words)

21 Mar 2016 13:24:30
What they need to do is defend and attack as a unit and they need to all go back together.

22 Mar 2016 16:17:50
Warbs really must change his mindset in certain games, I love his style but a manager must have a plan b and c, I hope his style wins everything, but Friday showed that without a change of plan you will struggle to win in football, I love warbs and have always loved Davie, who I admire almost as much as goughy, I have a signed copy of his book, but I know we must be prepared to adapt to suit the game, I hope warbs is flexible enough to adapt, because Scottish teams know what we are going to do, and maybe change the corner routine and mix up the subs now and then, , having said all that I am delighted with the the team and the management team.
Tommy.

20 Mar 2016 15:25:24
No respect for Mike Cashley but it is great to see Newcastle support have something to cheer about. Dug in and scrapped for a draw.

20 Mar 2016 16:10:40
Hope they go down.

20 Mar 2016 16:38:55
Haha fair enough Coldo I won't disagree with you but still good to see the fans with something to cheer.

20 Mar 2016 17:00:54
There fans are great, but if the drop ashley has to sell them or his stake in us. Us up, dundee utd and newcastle down. Good times.

20 Mar 2016 17:34:32
Shame for their fans but if Ashley pulled out from his hold in our company that would be a result.

20 Mar 2016 18:27:34
In an ideal world Ashley would not be at either Rangers or Newcastle however as things stand at the moment it is in our best interests that they are relegated.

I would have thought that Newcastle fans would be pleased to see the back of Ashley as well!

20 Mar 2016 21:19:10
Stuff them get them down its in our best interests stuff there fans a couldn't care less for them if it helps us get shot of him.

20 Mar 2016 21:30:49
Met a lot of Newcastle fans at our games and really do feel for them if they go down, but if it gets rid of cashley from us then so be it .

21 Mar 2016 07:17:36
How does Newcastle getting relegated help us.

21 Mar 2016 11:46:50
Thebear, it means Ashley needs to sell his shares in us. the governing body of the championship doesn't allow dual interest, they actually penalise it quite severely.

{Ed001's Note - how did the Pozo family get around that then, as owners of Udinese and Granada, as well as Watford?}

21 Mar 2016 13:00:44
I thought the dual interest is to do with the ability of the clubs meeting each other in competitive games. But I might be wrong.

21 Mar 2016 13:16:28
Good Point ed. little bit of copy and paste here

and any league which may from time to time replace any of the above mentioned leagues or conferences, or be formed in relation to the playing of Association Football at a level equivalent to that played in any of the aforementioned leagues.

long winded I know, however that explains everything. he needs permission from the governing body. Which I highly doubt he'll actually get. so to save himself too much heart ache he'd cut all dealings with rangers.

{Ed001's Note - I never noticed that bit about Scottish and Irish footie. I have read the law book through every year since I started doing the sites back in 2001 and yet that has never been spotted! I don't know how I missed it so many times. Why does it not mention the Welsh? Sorry that is irrelevant but just wondering now.}

20 Mar 2016 14:11:35
Never mind jason cummings I'd be going for billy mckay excellent scoring record for ict and Dundee utd and he wouldn't be to expensive either.

20 Mar 2016 14:41:02
Is he currently on loan?

20 Mar 2016 18:04:11
Not sure but I don't think he is the answer. Decent player though.

22 Mar 2016 16:31:29
Only show, , excellent stuff son, excellent,
Anyway, while I always had a soft spot for the toon, I had a quick look at their site a cupple of yrs ago, they slaughtered us, one of them had a music thing bout us being zombies? I think it was more to do with religion than football, and I've no doubt most of them didn't wish us any harm, but the vision stuck, and my liking for Newcastle diminished, sad but true, now Ashley may get what he deserves, but the ordinary geordie fans wont, I hope he loses his wealth but Newcastle get better
Tommy.

20 Mar 2016 11:27:35
The Falkirk game was a blip, the game should of been out of sight we should of been 4 up by half time . this is a learning curve and we will get better from it . we have lost 3 games and scored over 100 goals all season . I think we will get stronger and fearmly belive we will give Celtic a game and can't wait to beat them . this is
a group that have been playing together for only 8 month we are on the right road and only see this season as a big success no matter what happens in the cups and Ronny will be scared we are coming.

20 Mar 2016 12:25:54
You "fearmly" believe do you, bit of a Freudian slip there . As I FIRMLY believe you have the fear of the Scottish champions and all the boast and bluster on here, makes me believe it more every time I read it .

20 Mar 2016 12:38:34
Precious the fact you're creeping about this site day in/ day out makes me firmly believe you have a major dose of the fear. The Mighty Rangers have got to you.
Pity we won't hear from you after the semi though, would have been fun.

20 Mar 2016 16:47:55
Recbob-

Surely if he was fearful he'd stay away? It seems almost counter intuitive to be on this site if he was terrified.

I mean - surely you are not suggesting Precious' obsession with Rangers betrays his fear of them, because that would also mean you (and a lot of other people on this board) were terrified of Celtic, given your propensity to mention the semi final, and how you will triumph etc etc.

20 Mar 2016 17:43:09
I like talking about the upcoming match because I am excited about it.

I don't think we have much to fear from your team or the game, more to prove but nothing to worry about.

Remember; and as you always remind us, we are a division lower so we go into this with hope, excitement and interest but not arrogance.

Also I think it should be an excellent game even for the neutral viewers and going off the match your lot had against Killie, I am sure you are looking forward to seeing what your team look like when they actually play football?

I hope for 2-1 in our favour and I would love to see our team in the final as I genuinely believe it will be a great occasion for the fans after the last three years.

20 Mar 2016 18:21:27
Rafbob-

A few things.

You can talk about the upcoming match. You can be excited about it. I never said you weren't. I never said you couldn't. You can do this without being fearful of Celtic. I never suggested you were or are.

In fact, I don't know why you mention any of this? I'll put it down to a mixture of, a self confessed lower league fan bursting with excitement and hope.

I don't know what you saw in the Killie match, but I saw a team that won in the dying seconds with a wonder strike, in a match that has almost certainly clinched the title. It was pivotal - and I'll take that.

And yes, I always look forward to seeing Celtic play - and if we can play anything like the mighty Falkirk, I'm sure we'll do fine in the semi final.

20 Mar 2016 19:58:45
I only mention the fear etc. As that seems to be a theme of the posts prior to my one and I never aimed that solely at you.

That is your opinion on the Killie match and as far as winning the League is concerned you may almost certainly be correct.

However you could argue that certainty for the last three seasons from the first kick of a ball in that league.

Also take the green tinted glasses off for a moment and you may see a team that struggled against the team sat 11th in the league and scored a good, but some would argue last ditch effort?

You may be attempting sarcasm with regard to your "mighty Falkirk" comment but need I remind you of the fact that any team will have its day: example - Ross County when they wiped the pitch with your lot at Hampden?

All said, I hope you come on here after the match to let us know your opinion on how far we have come.

20 Mar 2016 20:33:50
You could argue that about the league title you are right. But you could argue the same certainly was in place for Rangers with every Challenge Cup and League since they were liquidated; the fact won zero of three Challenge Cups and failed to get promoted last year shows that it's not as easy as people think. A Premiership title is, in my eyes, never guaranteed and always to be celebrated.

I'm not wearing green tinted specs. I'd rather play ugly in an important match and win, than play silky stuff and lose. Which takes me to the sarcasm point. You are quick to use a Celtic victory as an example/ reason why they will struggle, whilst suggesting that we will see actual football when we play you-the implication being that it'll be from you. I was simply reminding you of another match you could use a a point of reference when making such suggestions.

I'm not sure what your point is with Ross County? Other than comparing the size of Rangers to Ross County? That's your opinion, I won't argue with that.

As for the match itself, I'll be around afterwards. If we win, it's always good to be in a final - no matter who we play to get there - and I'll look forward to it. If we are beaten, we've been beaten by lower league opposition before and will no doubt be again at some stage. It happens. I'll move on.

20 Mar 2016 21:21:40
I see what you are saying and I won't deny that as a Rangers man I didn't see many bumps on the road back, however there have been a few.

You can't honestly say you aren't seeing with a tinted view? I have never had an unbiased view where Rangers are concerned.

I will agree that it is better to play terribly and scrape out a win than to play sublimely and still lose.

That is common sense, my point is that Celtic are a side of individual qualities who currently are not at their confident best.

That brings about the reason I used the example of Ross County, I don't need to imply that we are a bigger team that is not required I simply suggest that even a side who on paper, player for player don't match up can still do a job against you.

Many people have said on many platforms how each individual player at Celtic is better than our equivalent, however they are stating statistical facts and ignoring the overriding fact that we have been playing the best football in Scotland this season. (I already stated my bias)

I believe that the team mentality we have far outweighs the figures people have noted on individual Celtic player performances this season.

That also touches on why I say you will see your team play actual football. (and I do mean Celtic will actually play not just Rangers. )

No old firm fan will deny that the best football you will see is during an old firm match (omitting last year) and I feel that your side will have to play well to beat us and us even more so. If I am right then you will see your team actually playing on the 17th.

I am glad you will be on to offer your opinion, it is more interesting than the usual "ma teams smashed your team -grunt - snortle. "

20 Mar 2016 22:01:56
No creeping about for me rafbob I will be here for the banter and give you an alternative view on the 18th win or lose 😁 don't take it all so seriously it was just a play of words regarding damos spelling mistake. No fear here mate I think we will win because we are a team full of international players, who while playing not so well at the moment will raise there game for the semi and your team is a team of journeymen with hardly a youth cap between them . One of us will be right and hopefully a decent game of football breaks out .

20 Mar 2016 22:38:56
You don't even have the capacity for decent banter precious. Enjoy trolling pal.

20 Mar 2016 23:06:05
I think you are confused between myself and recbob precious?

21 Mar 2016 02:52:09
Sorry your right rafbob my apologies, your entitled to your opinion on the quality of my banter or trolling as you put it 😁.

21 Mar 2016 11:00:54
I'm only joking precious I don't think you're a troll.

20 Mar 2016 11:20:31
I take it I'm too outspoken for a banter site. A contradiction in itself. Don't worry I won't be posting again. Shameful treatment to be honest when you are not allowed to express your views in a lucid and coherent manner. Then maybe that's the problem. These qualities are obviously not pre - requisites.

{Ed001's Note - no idea what you are talking about, sorry. I see looking at your name you have been asking about posts not coming through, but I never dealt with them. They should have been held for Ed033 to deal with, to see if there is an issue, but obviously that has not happened for some reason.}

20 Mar 2016 11:42:22
Don't go Seeker, your gonny make me string masel up!

20 Mar 2016 12:21:50
Sorry Ed, thought I was being blanked for some reason. Apologies! I'll be here to cut you down Mick, no probs!

20 Mar 2016 10:54:03
O'halloran won't cut it at rangers, gutted at the way he played when he came on against Falkirk, looks lost, hope he recognises fast what it means to play for rangers!

20 Mar 2016 11:12:45
A few comments like that were regards Harry Forrester not to long ago. I think he will come good.

20 Mar 2016 11:49:02
What a fickle lot we can be. A couple of weeks ago some were saying he should have been in the Scotland squad now he won't cut it at Rangers.

Let's give the lad a chance.

20 Mar 2016 13:48:07
I think he could be a great signing as long as his final ball and goal scoring improves.

20 Mar 2016 14:26:20
MOH has only just arrived and it will take time for him to get used to the system. I am confident that next season we will see a lot more from him.

It will be interesting to see who comes in; there has been talk of 4 to 6 new arrivals and I would like to think that at least four of these players will be better than what we have right now and that can only complement the skills of MOH.

20 Mar 2016 16:21:59
Ohalloran has to work harder imo, he doesn't get involved enough.

20 Mar 2016 17:13:55
I'm more excited about Moh than any other player we have to be honest, think he could trump them all. He's been inconsistent for us so far but it's early days and he needs to bed in. He was saying how MW has been drilling him on how to play in this system, let's just wait and see how that pans out. He's Defo the most naturally gifted player we have, maybe McKay is on that level as well.

20 Mar 2016 02:30:18
Are there any players out on loan this season who have a genuine chance of making our squad next season?

Ryan Hardie and Andy Murdoch get a lot of good press, then there is also the likes of Luca Gasporrota and Jordan Thompson.

Think it's too early for all four.

Are there a few more players out on loan just now who could make a serious impact on the team like McKay has done this season?

Can't wait to see us develop another Barrie McKay. Top player in the making.

20 Mar 2016 09:05:52
Ryan Hardie will make the squad, not the first team. Gasp maybe cover if all options aren't there. Thompson maybe loan again, Murdoch released.

I think/ hope we sign at least 6 players. 2CBs, RB/ LB, Midfielder/ Creative, Striker. i'm not saying we have a dire squad, just think players always work well when there's genuine competition for places. As seen with Tav, no competion = he's far too complacent.

20 Mar 2016 09:26:54
Agree with super Ally think Murdoch will leave which is a shame because the boy has talent as for the rest they won't be ready for the top league and that could leave us short. We will be releasing about 4-5 players and 3 loan players will all go back to their clubs so even buying 6 players we will still be short.

20 Mar 2016 11:59:14
Why would Murdoch have been sent out on loan if he was going to leave? Surely they would have just let him leave like McGregor.
I think Murdoch, Hardie and Thompson are the best youngsters we have and all will either be out on loan again next year or in and about the squad.

20 Mar 2016 13:52:03
Recbob

Fair point about Murdoch however Robbie Crawford was sent out on loan and will probably leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.

20 Mar 2016 14:34:47
I would expect to see Murdoch, Hardie, Gasperato and Thompson retained although I am not sure whether Murdoch will go back out on loan again. I reckon that Ball will be back at Ibrox next season but the other two loanees will return to their parent clubs and ideally we will secure the services of Harry Winks.
I will be surprised if any of Shiels, Law or Clark will be resigned although both Law and Shiels have the chance of possibly another contract. Clark will surely leave.
Hopefully the two Accrington boys will show their worth but I do feel that we must sign an experienced Centre Back and a goalscoring striker that will take the weight of Miller. I would also like to see us sign a top quality holding midfield player and we could do with cover for both full backs.

20 Mar 2016 15:16:12
True Biffo but Murdoch has had a year in our first team last year which will stand him in good stead. Plus Warburton has came out and praised him recently. I personally would like to see him cover for Crooks and let Halliday move forward for good next year. Hardie is a star in the making in my opinion.
