Posted a few weeks ago when people were shouting about needing a striker, imo I don't see any other strikers doing anything different to the ones we have, today we had to good balls into the striker and boom it pays off, but how many times do wee see this (hardly ever) our midfield plays that High up the park the strikers end up playing behind them, we don't create enough for the strikers and that's the reason we are struggling to score. We're passing the ball from defence to midfield and then trying to walk the ball in, the strikers don't seem to come into play at all apart from the usual midfield pass to striker and the midfielder Carey's on the run, when windlass is running into the box and awaiting a return pass from a striker it sums it up, when do we ever get off our seat to see a striker 1 on 1 with the goalie?

22 Jan 2017 22:19:44
Right Bears I know we all have guys we think we should bring to Ibrox BUT this player is a cracker AND I do not currently play Football Manager, I've seen many clips of him on TV and checked him out on line, the guys name is Erthun Oztumer, he's a wee guy and currently plays for Walsall, and yeah he's a midfielder BUT I think we could get him for anything between 300k-650k a lot for us to be spending the now but I honestly think he would be a brilliant signing especially if we got rid of Barry. I think Walsall got him for 250k, honestly Bears check him out and if anybody knows how let McParland know! So said it first keep an eye out for this guy, think he's 25yrs old and yeah not the biggest at 5'3 but would really like to see him at Ibrox, let me know your thoughts Bears?

22 Jan 2017 23:53:52
Mate tonne honest I don't think we would be bringing 2 midfielders in on loan if we could afford to buy one, I don't get the whole build for the future carry on when we're bringing loan players in to finish off a season we're we should see a Euro spot. the Scottish cup is the only thing we basically have to look forward to tbh. we had the boyfrom faith on loan and now he has signed but when we played Leipzig the boy is nowhere to be seen but yet senderos gets a game?

23 Jan 2017 09:44:56
Weedan, we loaned in a few players as players prices double in January and we can't afford a bad transfer.

23 Jan 2017 11:08:05
If by some miracle we were to inherit £20 million, would we all have faith in M W to know how to spend it, he has usually had to bring on players, can he know good quality ready made players immmm, don't know

22 Jan 2017 19:01:54
Anybody know where I can get the highlights of the youth game? It used to get put up on the site

22 Jan 2017 17:13:13
Rangers V Greenock Morton

Few other SPL teams have drawn each other, looks like a good draw for us

22 Jan 2017 17:19:43
Looks good to me too, a home tie against lower league opposition albeit Duffy has them playing better than they have for decades.

22 Jan 2017 17:46:50
As a Morton man, I ain't confident for Rangers. We are vulnerable to Set Pieces and Morton have scored tonnes from them this season.

22 Jan 2017 21:13:03
Gone the days of filling out a bookie slip of 5-0 etc. now we're sitting actually thinking how him Duffy has got Morton playing well lol,

22 Jan 2017 23:07:09
They've already beaten Premier League opposition and gotten to the League Cup Semis where they were very unfortunate to get beaten by Aberdeen.

23 Jan 2017 08:36:43
Rangers to win by 4 or 5 nil,
Im always the optimist lol

23 Jan 2017 10:00:45
It is a home game, we have the players so long as they are correctly deployed and this is a must win game just like all the rest. There is simply no excuse if we don't progress to the next round.

If we start with the eleven that finished the game then we should win by two or three goals and who knows, by the time we play them Rossiter might be back in the side and Kiernan might have learned how to defend corners!

23 Jan 2017 15:06:04
Delboy1979, the main thing is we beat morton and progress to the quarter finals of the scottish cup! Irrespective of how many we win by, as long as we're in the hat for the quarter final draw mate! that's all that matters! Of course we all want us to win with a bit of style, but the result obviously is the most important, we'll pick the bones of the performance after we're through!

22 Jan 2017 17:12:42
one major problem with warburton is he tries to find positions for several no 10s in one team. i believe that toral. mckay, holt, forrester, windass etc are probably all best suited to attacking mid (no10s) but when we jam them in one team it makes our midfield week and our defence. good example when laudrup played he had mccall, ferguson, steven etc behind him there was no pressure on laudrup to do the dirty work that our no 10s need to do

22 Jan 2017 17:40:22
Bears let me know if it's just me or does anyone else think playing McKay on the left is crazy! Surely he would do far more damage on the right, every defender knows he must cut in on to his right foot to get a decent ball in. Warbs MUST be putting him there due to the fact we do not have an attacking winger with a left foot BUT he should at least let McKay switch during games AND an left winger should be near the top of the list of transfers? So please let me know if any Bears out there agree and what are our current options on the left? Really do feel for Barry as I think he would be far more effective on the right AND if we are looking to sell him he could show his capabilities off even more making him a more attractive transfer hence more dosh. Thoughts Bears

22 Jan 2017 18:11:03
I just don't think McKay is at his most effective on any wing and I've often criticised both his play there and the manager for not using him properly. If I ever saw a genuine No10 about to blossom, it's McKay, and to use the lad's talents in a positive way we need strength behind him and sharpness in front of him. We have neither, which to me suggests a staggering lack of judgement by a very stubborn manager. In a 4-3-1-2 formation, I think he'd eventually blossom into a real player.

22 Jan 2017 20:27:33
Andy1872. We do have an attacking midfielder with a left foot. his name is Andy Halliday. But for some reason MW persists with playing him out of position at defensive mid while we let our natural defensive mid Matt Crooks go out on loan.

22 Jan 2017 22:00:32
Yeah parky know what your saying so we really do need a winger with a left peg! Wee McKay cannot be as effective and show what he can really do in terms of assists, you can just imagine the opposition team talk whoever is marking McKay (right back) is told stick with him as he WILL cut in onto his right foot it's such a shame for the wee man and I'm shocked Warbs has not even got a left winger in on LOAN!

23 Jan 2017 14:07:52
Andy1872,do you not see when you're at rangers games that barrie mckay does switch sometimes to the right wing for periods of the game? Not regular but it happens!

23 Jan 2017 14:48:47
I think Mckay is tailor made for the number 10 posistion

23 Jan 2017 14:33:39
He's an out and out winger anyone saying different probably thinks Kenny millers a good striker.

23 Jan 2017 17:20:24
U don't think kenny millers a good striker?

22 Jan 2017 16:37:29
I know we probably couldn't afford him but I would love to see us get Jamie Walker.

22 Jan 2017 20:05:10
Bears, I genuinely think that there is someone out there who will or is considering investing in us, when u think about it the Lge is a two horse race and qualifying for the Champions League nets the club around 20m SO if someone knew his investment would get a return profit and knowing that this would be a long term project surely it would be an attractive investment. This may be la la land but IF someone invested 20-25m over 2 seasons then we won the Lge in the 3rd AND qualified for CL then they would be on there way to getting back there investment, add the ending of the Sports Direct deal then Rangers must look to be a great chance for someone or an consortium to look at. Now and this is super la la land but if Scottish Clubs out with the Old Firm could have an impact in Europe and we got back to the position when the Lge winners qualified automatically and 2nd got into the qualifying rounds, Clubs in Scotland would have a great chance to actually make some cash.
Also bring back the Cup Winners Cup, make the Lge cup a route to this and thus Clubs regarding it as a Mickey Mouse Cup and also give a place to a position in the Lge it would give smaller Clubs the chance of European football and their fans and another source of revenue. So Bears let me know your thoughts on these?

23 Jan 2017 06:34:52
Your correct with one thing Andy, la la land. Scottish teams can't do it in Europe. Hearts got put out with a team from Malta. Celtic got beat away in Gibraltar, struggled against Astana and held on by their fingertips against beer sheva. So spending silly money does not make it a certainty of getting into champions league.

23 Jan 2017 13:19:56
Not sure what any of that has to do with my original post! Hahaha

22 Jan 2017 15:16:58
Was relieved to get the result yesterday, especially getting to see the look on McGees face at the end! But for me there are too many important players not getting pass marks week in week out. Everyone that seem to think MOH is the solution to our problems is deluded, yes the man has ability and pace to burn but his positional sense is awful, he does the damage out wide running at full backs, but I don't know how many times yesterday he just wandered inside got the ball and passed it right back to the same person. For me he only has to look at McKay, he hunts the touch line and look at the space he gets, if MOH did this he could be a real weapon for us but too often he drifts inside and is totally ineffective in there.

Also once again Halliday was poor and I hate to say it but even holt looked lost in the midfield, the wee man Hyndman looks promising but we seriously need someone that is disciplined wnough to sit in front of the back 4 and be comfortable on the ball, Halliday just isn't that! Holpefully rossiter comes back from the dead and gives us that but we cannot rely on a guy with less than 2 games under his belt this season.

And although I love the guy, Wallace really doesn't get the criticism he deserves, he's cost us as many goals as Tav this season, yes that's partly to do with the holding midfielder not doing their job but like yesterday he backs far to far off the man and can't block a simple ball into the box which isn't good enough.

Up top I think that in these games waggy could really be a Boyd for us, I don't think he has the quality to do it in the big games but against these teams he has a knack for coming up with the goods and he is someone that actually gets into the box and has that greedy instinct that a goalscorer needs, he's not the full solution but learning what games to play him and what games to play garner could be the difference between 2nd and 3rd this year

22 Jan 2017 16:32:10
Gm, just a wee point on the ohslloran thing, the way Warburton sets us up the strikers as you saw with miller yday always drop deep it's then up to the wingers to drift inside to take this position (also deep runners from midfield although none of our midfielders do much of this) . This is tactics and it doesn't suit ohsllorans game I was surprised we signed him for this reason as he's a proper winger which doesn't really suit our system.

22 Jan 2017 13:35:51
Warbs should definitely snap up van der vart sure he is 33 but will surley add more flare to our team would be a big plus for us in europe aswell has experience and skill still think we shld invest in a decent striker to help garner and miller though

22 Jan 2017 22:03:00
What's Van Der Vart's favoured position and is he a lefty?

23 Jan 2017 03:10:08
Another attacking midfielder mate proper no 10 n a great left peg! not what we need and certainly not at the cost involved we can't afford these type of players

22 Jan 2017 13:04:35
Van der vaart open to a move to Scotland what do you think bears?

22 Jan 2017 13:34:41
Far to old.

22 Jan 2017 21:38:27
Perfect replacement for Niko short term. 18 month deal would be ideal.

22 Jan 2017 13:00:45
Derby making Anya for sale or loan. Decent acquisition for us bears?

22 Jan 2017 16:40:31
Anya is absolute dug meat, I would burst into tears if we signed that boy

23 Jan 2017 15:06:51
Fraserburgh if you genuinely think he is garbage you haven't a clue about football anya would run amok up here just needs to play regularly

22 Jan 2017 12:55:46
Sign Liam Boyce up right now.

£250,000

He's scoring for fun and technically very good with both feet.

A Kris Boyd in the making.

22 Jan 2017 13:23:58
Agreed! Exactly what we need, wastes very little.

22 Jan 2017 14:30:05
I think Boyce is a great player but I would doubt a lad from the Falls area of Belfast would be keen on a move to us.
You never know though

22 Jan 2017 16:20:42
Said this in the summer and was shot down for it, the boy could a good buy for us at the minute

22 Jan 2017 16:33:40
Would score more than garner used to playing up top himself n spends most of his time in box, good shout

22 Jan 2017 18:19:26
frazer-thought we might have got past that type of reason of why a player would not play for us

22 Jan 2017 18:48:40
Truebluesotrue
I would take him in a minute
What I mean is - like it or not a lot of people from where he comes from would probably give him grief if he did join us
We would probably get him at a decent cost if he did come

22 Jan 2017 21:20:31
Correct Fraser, other potential targets from a similar background have been warned if they sign for Rangers they can never go home again. How would the likes of this lad deal with that?

22 Jan 2017 21:26:59
Sign moult cracking striker showed that yesterday. Thankless task up front himself put in a shift and scored with a cracking header

23 Jan 2017 10:05:10
He scored a good goal but it was against our defence!

23 Jan 2017 12:00:21
We all have our opinions guys, but i think motherwell striker louis moult is a better striker than ross county striker liam boyce! Just my own personal opinion! So i'd rather rangers went for moult than boyce!

23 Jan 2017 14:54:14
The way warburton uses his No9s i can't see any of them being a 30 goal a season man no matter who he brings in

22 Jan 2017 12:24:16
Where was Halliday on build up to goal when Motherwell strolled through the midfield? Where was the Challenge from Wallace to stop the cross? Easy to always blame closest man to the goal scorer for the goal. Short sites fans continue to blame our defence and attack for lack of performance.

Games are won and lost in midfield. Not enough support to defence? We leak goals! Not enough support to attack? We lack goals.

Strikers constantly having to come deep getting dragged out of position. Defenders constantly left exposed.

I have said before and will say again. We've been playing with a championship midfield due to injuries. Loan signings look promising temporary fixes for now and we are still in 2nd.

I firmly believe things will improve when we are at full strength.

22 Jan 2017 13:24:36
Kiernan totally abandoned his man.

22 Jan 2017 14:04:04
Wallace was definitely at fault and was slow to get back on a number of occasions giving away unnecessary free kicks that could have cost us, but I would suggest that on this occasion you are being a bit harsh on Halliday, (and I am generally one that is happy to criticise him) .

Kiernan however was at fault twice, playing one man onside and then losing Moult completely.

Biggest problem with Wallace however is that he is just not leadership material. To be successful we need a leader as captain.

22 Jan 2017 15:33:16
Thought Halliday looked better yesterday but still think he looks knackered last 20 mins of games.

22 Jan 2017 16:38:09
Bigbear keirnan was 6 yards behind rest of back 4 when they tried to play offside then lost his man completely. Keirnan does this most weeks his positional sense is awful he's nowhere near what we need in there

22 Jan 2017 17:51:15
Big bear is spot on certain players are exempt from negative comments big kiernan had been playing but recently has had a few errors and didn't do enough for the goal but Andy Halliday shouldn't be anywhere near the starting 11 he's doing nothing his passing is shocking a can't remember the last time he had a good game for us!

22 Jan 2017 21:29:59
Halliday is the only option to play the DM position as Rositter is currently injured.
Warbs needs to sign a DM player or bring one in on loan this transfer window.
As to why we let Crooks leave on loan is another strange decision due to the fact if Halliday is injured who replaces him?

22 Jan 2017 10:30:22
I know it's boring but I'll say it again. Recall Hardie from loan and play him alongside Miller and give young Burt a run alongside Rossiter (if he is ever going to be fit) .

The Barton and Kranjcar incidents were unfortunate as both would have added class to our midfield. All Warburton seems to do with new signings is either watch them recover from injury or loan them out (e.g. Crooks). It is a sad state of affairs that the two stand-out players right now are aged about 75 between them!

22 Jan 2017 21:39:46
Doiger

I think Hyndham and Toral are good additions to our squad but we have to sign or bring someone in on loan for DM as we have no cover if Halliday is injured.
We should have kept Crooks rather than loan him to Scunthorpe.
Not sure about Hardie as Waghorn would be a better option to partner Miller if we opted to play 4-3-1-2 with McKay in the number 10 role.

22 Jan 2017 02:11:32
Looks like Stevie May is being shifted this window. Is he not worth a look in, Is he any good anymore lads?

22 Jan 2017 11:37:48
He's always getting injured. Just the mould of player Warbs is looking for.

22 Jan 2017 01:53:56
After today's game, I reckon we don't have any one particular 1st choice set of players except for foddy, hill, mckay and Miller. Read a lot of comments in how waghorn should start, dodoo should get his chance, moh is due a run out etc. But looking at it closer and waghorn and dodoo were awful against teams the come out at us (Celtic, Aberdeen, hearts etc. ) And yet excel against Hamilton, Partick thistle and then Motherwell today when waghorn came on. Imo we have 2 sets of players where games against teams that park behind the ball needs the waghorns and dodoos but against the teams that don't camp behind the ball, players like garner are our best option. Issue is, I don't think Warburton realises this. Lastly, kiernan is truly awful. Can't wait to get rid of the guy as its horror show after horror show with him.

22 Jan 2017 09:38:09
Good post PapaBear. We have a nucleus of players, if utilised correctly, that could give us the basis to move forward.

22 Jan 2017 12:15:06
We do have a nucleus of players but we are way short in the striking department. I am still not convinced MW knows his best eleven. For eighty three minutes it was what we are all used to by now but the last seven minutes we definitely got out of jail. Once more we lost a goal to a bread and butter cross into the box. We need players in the opponents box, too many times yesterday we had nobody posing a threat and the attack petered out. We need an out and out striker for sure.

22 Jan 2017 15:36:31
Yesterday summed keirnan up I thought he was having good game but you're always waiting on that mistake and along it came when he lost mount at goal.

22 Jan 2017 01:25:06
Ok guys, simmer, we got the result but it's the manner of the result that disquiets me.

If Kenny Miller (Warburton is a YOUTH coach) is our only weapon we are in dire trouble. I have watched this kid since he was at HIbs and he has the nature but won't get you 20+ EVERY season fit or not, he's a figure to train the group on professionalism and what it means to be a Ranger, we need not just a striker, as we have a few but a manager who doesn't instill the need for another 6 passes when we have opportunity to score.

Lee Wallace today was back to what he does best, overlapping, linking with Mackie and defending to his best when called upon, midfield? apart from industry they are getting bullied, Josh Windass is a luxury as he doesn't dig in, his pasing is 50/ 50 and his goals to game ratio is. well you check the stats.

Todays players that kept us IN THE GAME were: Halliday - Dig
Hill - Dig
Holt - Dig
Wallace - Dig
BigWes - Nothing to do really, except pick the ball out when the defence switched off. (watch the replay)

Barrie did his job but no one responded, Jesus they must know his game by now?
Toral - good moves but off the pace on decision making and it'll take a game or two to get the speed.
Windass - needs more coaching on what his role is McCall 8/ Gazza 8/ Winger 11?

Overall, we need someone to replace the CDM role with stature, young, African/ French/ Algerian, these guys are out there as every other club shows, Frank McPartland is taking it easy with Liverpool/ Brenford/ Watfrod as is Warburton.

50,000 fans A WEEK are looking to you for progress, please don't con them, if your not up to the job then step aside for someone who is and we will forever respect you, the alternative is what happened t for it, the alternative is what happened to Super Alistair McCoist, I shudder to think that he is still unwelcome at home after the trauma of watching his team disolve under his junior management, at least the English guys can go home, he's a pariah in his own world, shame on us.

22 Jan 2017 04:25:04
A would be a good scout for us lol. bn serious. look at France ligue 2 or players in Dutch league and so on. we keep signing players from England. Croatian league and stuff we should have look at.

22 Jan 2017 09:31:41
Bob Agg, I have to disagree on Holt and Wallace. I don't believe that defensively, Wallace had a good game. He was slow getting back and was dragged far too often into the middle of the defence and he was a contributor because of his positioning for Motherwell's goal. Perhaps if he had someone challenging for that left back position then he would step it up a gear which he is more than capable of doing. One more thing, he is not a leader!

As for Holt, sorry but he provides very little, is too weak and is easily knocked off the ball when in possession. Hyndman showed more in the short time he was on the park than Holt did for the entire 70 odd minutes he was playing.

I agree on Hill, right now he is our only decent quality centre back but he isn't getting any younger!, and although I am one of his biggest critics I would say that Halliday had a decent game although I reckon that he would be a better player if played in his own position, (but it just goes to show that if there is competition for places that certain players can up their game) .

I also thought that Waghorn made an improvement when he came on although that is no disrespect to MOH who had a decent game and I thought that Windass strong running and strength also showed while Toral for his first competitive game got pass marks.

Without Miller at the centre of our attack however we have no one to score goals and the fact that he had to play deep for most of the game, for me emphasises that nothing was coming through to the attack.

Our defence is a real problem however. Neither right back is what would previously be considered as 'Rangers class, take Hill away and we only have the young Raith Rovers guy that we can pin any hope on for the future and while, with the right players along side him, Wallace is a good left back he is not and never will be the strong leader that we need to captain the team. Perhaps he is just too nice a guy and the captain needs to be a 'win at all costs' the of guy.

In the Holding midfield role we need to hope that young Rossiter comes back, proves his ability and stays fit, otherwise we desperately need a new player for that role. So in effect as many have said before, with the exception of goalkeeper we need to replace the spine of the team.

22 Jan 2017 12:33:00
Bob agg don't know what game you were watching mate Wallace helped sell the goal getting dragged out of position, Holt was trulyawful and halliday not much better.

23 Jan 2017 07:34:47
Bob aggr! Sorry to pick you up on what you said regarding kenny miller since, you've watched his full career, stating he can't/ hasn't been able to score 20+ goals in a season! In his 2nd spell with us he was very prolific mate! He scored in his 2nd season of his 2nd spell 22 goals by january and then left that month, to sign for bursaspor in Turkey!

Kenny became a more prolific goalscorer, as he got older! The guy's a honed athlete, a thoroughbred, like i've always said on here! We IMO must give him a new 1 year contract as his contribution, both on and off the park, is still 2nd to none! He's a terrific role model, to have around the place! We're going to find it extremely difficult in replacing miller, when he does eventually, hang up his boots! He then should and i truly think he will, get a coaching job at rangers, and like i've also said on here, i truly think its in him to become the glasgow rangers manager one day, obviously a few years down the line! He probably will have to manage a smaller club first before the transition to rangers manager! Thoughts please?
