On a lighter note fellow bears has anyone seen any pictures of the new puma rangers home shirt for next season? I've seen a picture of it today and if this is legitimate its a smart top although I won't be purchasing it through mike ashley's sports direct.

23 Mar 2016 06:02:04
Where have you seen the shirt mate? wouldn't mind a look.

23 Mar 2016 08:19:31
I'm hoping that due to the Championship rules down south that MA will have to cut all dealings with rangers. Including those that are through Sports Direct. this rule seems to sort of cover us

"98.2 Except with the prior written consent of the Board no Club shall allow or permit any football club, either directly or indirectly"

98.2.4 to have any power whatsoever to influence the financial, commercial or business affairs or the management or administration of that Club"

to me, this does slightly cover us in our situation. Sports Direct are owned by Ashley, Ashley owns Newcastle. he can influence us both financial and commercially. or am I completely wrong here?

23 Mar 2016 08:54:23
Forfarger, I seen it on glasgow rangers new home shirt website page mate.

23 Mar 2016 11:21:17
Wasn't king trying to get shot of puma? I'm sure I read that somewhere?

23 Mar 2016 12:18:12
What if Ashley does the unthinkable and sells his stake in Newcastle if they go down.

23 Mar 2016 12:28:08
Albetz, here is the issue to why that won't happen. If I'm mistaken Newcastle are currently for sale. however no one wants to buy them because of Ashley. whoever wants them needs to buy the club for £250million, potentially more. on top of that £250milllion, whoever buys them would need to pay off the debts to Ashley, which are around £180million. no one will pay that for Newcastle. I can think of a few teams I'd rather buy for £250mil and then use the £180mil on the club rather than paying off the fat man.

23 Mar 2016 13:26:27
Ashley claimed on sky sports news yesterday that Newcastle were "stuck with him" if they go down as he won't sell the club if relegated, I presume that is due to the lower value of a championship club to a premiership club!

23 Mar 2016 13:33:22
Scotty, It is most likely due to the fact no one wants Newcastle. Ashley messed up by attempting these loans to the club instead of investing, now it has him in the situation where he can't sell the club.

23 Mar 2016 15:01:37
Craig whyte might be interested if he sells for £1.

23 Mar 2016 15:48:12
Warbs15 fancy throwing the link on here? I've not seen anything about new shirts at all and I've been searching for most of they day.

23 Mar 2016 16:16:57
Warbs15 I can't find it anywhere mate.

23 Mar 2016 16:58:42
Albertz

Do you think Whyte would actually part with a £1?

23 Mar 2016 18:05:20
Onlyshow;
Ashley will say he is only a shareholder and has no controlling interest in either of the three, the proof is in the percentage of the shares he owns. He has his lackeys to stand up and take the hit as we have seen to our cost.

23 Mar 2016 18:17:02
That shirt came out in June 2015,

23 Mar 2016 19:41:55
Deeb completely wrong. Due to sports direct he is involved in rangers, nothing to do with shares. He is owner of newcastle and Sports direct which has direct effect of our financial and commercial dealings. Not to memtion he has a large amount of voting rights. The championship officials won't like him so I have a feeling they will purposely screw him over.

24 Mar 2016 08:16:06
Onlyshow
he said last year that he had taken NUFC off the market as no one he trusted had shown interest. But that comment may be worth zilch; everything is for sale at the right price.

24 Mar 2016 08:19:24
championship might like the idea of bigger gates and more sponsorship like the officials up here did. NUFC ar still a big club with good away support, ave crowds in championship not great.

22 Mar 2016 19:10:31
For anyone looking for info on old firm tickets. Sponsorship allocation have now received their tickets so I can hazard a guess that tickets will be on sale early next week.

22 Mar 2016 16:39:41
I see in the papers that Lafferty is set to join Sheffield Wednesday?

22 Mar 2016 17:32:08
As long as he stays away from us he was a waste of money I never rated him spending £3.75m on donkeys like him will always create money problems total dud.

22 Mar 2016 17:45:29
The guys a total fud. Definitely not one you need in the dressing room with young guys learning their trade!

22 Mar 2016 19:17:12
Onlyshowaround your starting 11 next season has waghorn as a maybe starter? Come on he's a player and will start next season. There will be plenty more coming in and out, however I'd have waghorn as one of my first in the team sheet . In fact I think he'll score more next season.

22 Mar 2016 20:56:24
I think we'll see even more rotation in the team next year once Waghorn is fit and Windass plus possibly another Striker should be arriving. Once this happens and if we tie down Forrester and King we could play any number of different attacking options and have plenty of options on the bench every game. This is the depth we will need over the course of a harder season next year.
However I think Waggy has done enough this year to be first on the team sheet next year.

22 Mar 2016 21:34:40
Recbob

How do you think Waghorn will do in the premiership and if injury free how many goals do u think he would score?

22 Mar 2016 22:52:02
I'm not sure he'll be prolific as i'm thinking he will played down the flanks next year mostly Biffo. I'm sure MW is clever enough to know we need a proper out and out striker for the top league.
I'd still fancy him to get 15-20 next year all in though if he stays fit. More than his goals this year (although where would we be without them) it's his overall play and work ethic I like the most. He encourages everyone else to get stuck in by leading from the front. Unfortunately players like him and Miller just never seem to be as prolific as the selfish strikers, sad but true. But I would still have him in before any other attacker we have so far.

22 Mar 2016 18:52:35
Who cares who lafferty signs for another post that has nothing to do with rangers.

25 Mar 2016 00:43:12
Buffo his goals are largely dependent on penalties and silly free kicks.

22 Mar 2016 14:02:16
Our team for next year:-

Foderingham
Tav
Wilson
Kiernan
Wallace
Crooks
Halliday
Holt
O'Hal
Windass/ Waghorn
Mckay

so this looks like the potential Current starting 11. what positions would you all improve on or have more of a challenge for? A new right back wouldn't be bad, not even to replace tav, just to challenge him for the position.

22 Mar 2016 14:11:42
6 new players are joining next season.

On top of the Windass/ Crooks deal. The 6 will be needed too. The amount of players leaving who are out of contract will need be replaced by better players.

Winks loan deal would be a great signing. An experienced Centre Back is an absolute must. A striker who will put away chances we are missing week after week. Should be winning by 3 and 4 with the amount of chances created. A Right Back who is able to defend.

A couple more players and we can challenge at the top.

22 Mar 2016 21:36:58
Agree with Thom76 and would also like to see us sign a top quality defensive midfield player. I have to believe that this will be a position that Warburton and McParland will be looking at in terms of experience.

22 Mar 2016 22:23:20
Then tom, what would the point in signing crooks be? That would leave us with 3 cdm's if an experienced one was signed.

23 Mar 2016 00:13:04
Keep hearing crooks is a dm but try to watch the accrington highlights when i can since the deal and he seems to be pretty versatile but played more as a creative mid when iv seen him. i'd say we need a more experience dm as well as a proven st and cb plus a couple loans winks and a left/ right back.

24 Mar 2016 00:26:04
Windass is a midfielder.

24 Mar 2016 10:27:43
GK- FOD/ BEL
RB- TAVS/ McCRORIE
CB- KIE/ WILS/ GASP
LB - WALL/ HALL
DM - CROOKS/ HALL/ MURD/
CM- HOLT/ HALL/ SHIE/ LAW/ THOMSON/ BURT/ RAMS
WING- MCKAY/ FORR/ O'HAL/ WALSH/
ST- WAG/ MILL/ Clark/ HARDIE

Require- CB x 2/ Young LB/ Wing x 1/ ST x 1
Ball would be a great addition again for next year. Personally think we need to offload Shiels/ Law and Clark and replace them with better quality.

22 Mar 2016 08:09:27
I'm a bit concerned about so much being dependant on the arrival of Windass and Crooks for next season. After all, they play for the mighty Accrington Stanley! Personally I had never heard of them before. They might be good players but someone has just posted on here that Murdoch might return to be Crooks' understudy next season! I know we can't and mustn't spend silly money again on players but Hardie, Thompson, Murdoch and Walsh should all be good enough to be squad players next season.

22 Mar 2016 08:17:38
Doiger

From what I hear Crooks is in line to be named in the league 2 team of the season and is only 22. This might not mean too much however watching the top league i doubt many players currently playing there would stick out in that league. Hopefully he will be a good signing.

22 Mar 2016 08:19:46
Doiger, Chill out. The lower leagues of England are of a higher quality than most of our football. Windass and crooks are two very good players. and at only 22, both players have time to become star players in our squad.

22 Mar 2016 09:15:40
You claim that league 2 in England is a higher standard than the spl or the Scottish championship but if you were playing Accrington at ibrox tomorrow you would be odds on at the bookies to beat them comfortably, and you would . So would Celtic, hearts and Aberdeen, so what have you based that on? That's not to say there are not a few decent players down there but Northampton who are miles clear, would struggle not to get relegated from the spl .

22 Mar 2016 09:23:51
Precious, I think that Northampton would be a mid table team to be honest. Which is nothing short of laughable for Scottish football, that a league 2 side are better than half of the Scottish premier league clubs.

22 Mar 2016 10:42:52
Sorry I have to disagree I don't think they would survive in the spl, but your right it is humiliating that this is even debatable.

22 Mar 2016 11:09:09
All Stars Start From The Bottom And Work Their Way Up, The Same With Any Job Really, Windass And Crooks Will Turn Out To Be Great Players i'm Sure, As Soon As They Pull On The Famous Blue Jersey They Will Know They Need To Perform To High Standards And i'm Sure They Will

22 Mar 2016 11:15:22
Precious do you really think Northampton are worse than Kilmarnock, Dundee united, Partick Thistle, Hamilton, inverness or Dundee? personally I think they are better. are you saying they are as good or possibly worse than Falkirk? quite right though, the fact we are debating this is laughable for Scottish football.

22 Mar 2016 12:06:06
Happy to throw my tuppence worth in about Div 2 in England as I can speak about AFC Wimbledon - remember these guys are full time professionals and with Afcw we are promoting a regular crop of players who have come through the club's youth set up and academy - Afcw are currently chasing a play off place and having sold our current ground to Chelsea Fc ( for their academy, youth and women's teams) work is due to start soon on a 16,000 stadium back in our old home in Plough Lane - so with that investment on the go that gives some idea of the money available to a chosen few clubs in the lower leagues and remember Bristol Rovers have just had a, multi million pound investment by rich family from Jordan and recent results have shot them into a promotion place - I would safely say that some of the leading clubs are well above our Championship level - and I would think that over a season they would finish above the likes of Kilmarnock Hamilton Partick Dundee. - The intensity and level of Rangers, Hearts, The Sheep and the dark side
may well prove a step too far for England Div 2 but the standard and professionalism is definitely there -.

22 Mar 2016 12:24:46
I have no doubt with the money on offer in England that some clubs are on the up, but I personally think Northampton would be in a relegation scrap with killie and united but that's just an opinion, we have no way of knowing for sure .

22 Mar 2016 12:54:15
Like most of us I have no idea how Crooks and Windass will pan out but I don't get why u think so much of our season will depend on them.
They were free. We have more players to come in.
Warburton ain't daft. He has clearly had the option of keeping players who are not being kept on. Basically he may have just decided he would have better players of more value if he's swapping crooks/ Windass for say Law/ Shiels.

22 Mar 2016 12:58:07
Suppose if Windass and Crooks come in and stroll it next year we will know. Every team bar perhaps Celtic would bite your hand off for the pair of them, they'll be on more money than any player from they teams you mentioned, and for good reason. Arsenal had scouts watching Windass when we secured his signature. Grow up precious and stop putting a negative slant on everything you post. Oh i forgot you are trolling that's what your meant to do.
Doiger I usually agree with most of what you say, it was me who said Murdoch should be understudy to Crooks. I've seen him play and he is definitely above Murduch right now in my opinion, that could all change though.
The money down south has changed my perception of these English lower leagues now, the standard is definitely SPFL standard in league 2. Give it a few years and it will be better bar the old firm.

22 Mar 2016 13:04:16
I live in Northampton literally a stones throw from Sixfields I take my youngest every few weeks and the standard I have to say is better than most in Scotland again I doubt very much that Northampton could compete with us and Celtic maybe even Aberdeen and hearts but there is no way they would be in a relegation dog fight that's for sure mid table consistently league 2 is on par with spfl as I said though with the exception of a few.

22 Mar 2016 13:39:57
Surely the arguments put forth are only supporting Doiger's original post?

He's worried about the weight being put on a couple of L2 players most of you haven't heard of, and the crux of the argument is that these teams/ players would comfortably compete with the Killies/ Dundee Uniteds (two teams fighting relegation) if it came to it. So to flip the question, would many of you be thrilled with the signing of the equivalent players from KFC/ DUFC as potential difference makers?

22 Mar 2016 13:49:49
Absolute nonsense recbob I never mentioned the players personally and even conceded that some of the teams in England division 2 had some decent players, what the grown up less bitter members of society were debating is just where there top teams would come in the spl, perhaps you should try reading my posts, are you disagreeing with me that rangers would easily beat Accrington?

22 Mar 2016 13:54:35
TPP, you bought 3 players from Dundee united. all I'm saying on that. However, Windass and Crooks are 22, yes they play in L2 however, they are decent players. with very high potential. Warbs obviously rates Windass highly enough to put a buyout clause on his contract.

22 Mar 2016 14:11:51
Onlyshowaround--

Whether or not Celtic bought players from DUFC is totally irrelevant to both my point and the thread at hand. If you can't see that then there's very little point in continuing this discourse.

22 Mar 2016 15:42:43
"He's worried about the weight being put on a couple of L2 players most of you haven't heard of, and the crux of the argument is that these teams/ players would comfortably compete with the Killies/ Dundee Uniteds (two teams fighting relegation) if it came to it. "So to flip the question, would many of you be thrilled with the signing of the equivalent players from KFC/ DUFC as potential difference makers? "

comfortably compete againt Dundee utd, then says would many of you be thrilled with signing of the equivalent players from KFC/ DUFC as potential difference makers

even your point makes no sense. are Windass and Crooks of better quality of Dundee utd players, or are they of equivalent level?

my opinion is that L2 teams are better than half of our Premier league, so we are realistically taking 2 promising young players from a mid table Scottish prem team. Wasn’t that kind of what you done with Dundee utd? You took 2/ 3 promising players from an average side?

22 Mar 2016 15:49:23
He is tearing you apart mate, give it up, he is clearly getting satisfaction that he has won this debate, don't get yourself dragged down, the manager and staff obviously believe these two boys are worth investing time and money in, windass father was a fabulous player who had hos troubles but should have gone further, crooks has a good reputation, don't need to get involved in whether the division they play in at the moment is better or worse than where they are going , they are boys, let them playabd we will soon know if they are good enough ? I trust the management team,
Tommy.

{Ed001's Note - where did Leicester get Mahrez from? It doesn't matter where they come from, just how good they are.}

22 Mar 2016 16:38:20
tomtom, not at all. TPP' point is contradicting. you can't win a debate when using a statement that is contradiciting

“the crux of the argument is that these teams/ players would comfortably compete with the Killies/ Dundee Uniteds (two teams fighting relegation) if it came to it. So to flip the question, would many of you be thrilled with the signing of the equivalent players from KFC/ DUFC as potential difference makers? " quite clearly states the point that these L2 teams would compete comfortably, then suggests that these teams that L2 teams would be competing comfortably against have players of the same quality. The point is rather contradicting.

22 Mar 2016 16:47:06
Onlyshowaround--

I really don't get what's so hard to grasp here.

I'll give this one more go, for my own sanity.

One:

My entire post (and point) was in reference to Doiger's point - and the consequent replies. Your insistence on bringing Celtic into this (consciously or unconciously) betrays your own insecurities and/ or obsession. And for someone who's name is Onlyshowaround, that's something you should address, lest it make a mockery of your name.

To be clear though, the reason Celtic's involvement in this debate is irrelevant, certainly in relation to my post, is because no one (myself included) is complaining or questioning the signing of those players. (Again, to be clear, within the context of this thread) I'm sure you'll find many fans, Celtic included, who have opinions about those signings but they are totally unrelated to this thread.

Two:

As above, my point was aimed at the debate between you all - which seemed, at least superficially - somewhat contradictory. Hence why I flipped the question. I wasn't trying to steal points. I wasn't trying to get a dig in. I was at worst, asking a question, at best defending Doiger's original point. I have zero opinion on the players worth or whether they'll be successes - as Ed says, it doesn't matter where they come from, just how good they are.

Three:

My post makes perfect sense. To comfortably compete suggests a similar type of standard (generally) . That's the suggestion that is being made throughout the thread- and it's that which I am commenting on. I'll be honest, I don't watch L2 football so I'm bowing to you, and the rest of people on this threads, opinion of it. But that makes no difference as my entire point is built on the opinions offered on this thread - and not the individual merits of each and every one of them. Finally, I used the term "difference makers" in relation to Rangers, where they are now and where they want to be. So it makes sense.

22 Mar 2016 17:44:58
TTP, me mentioning how your team bought 3 players from a very average spl side (reminding you on my opinion on L2 teams) makes sense on this post. I never normally mention Celtic. Comfortably compete suggests the opposition would be of lesser quality than the teams comfortably competing. However you have me on this one TTP.

22 Mar 2016 18:20:21
I think we need to give the players the chance to prove themselves when they come up. They might be good signings they might not. I would say league 2 is a decent standard and from what I've heard both players are improving.

22 Mar 2016 19:08:46
I'm happy to get young players from any league from league 2 upwards in England. I'd take a player from the lower leagues in Scotland if they were good enough. Plenty of players have made it from those leagues. Snodgrass, Halliday, Arfield to name a few.
I've said on here before I hope we break the bank on 1 or 2 positions like Striker and possibly CB. The rest of the potential ones coming in I trust the manager will bring in quality youth on a budget. It's his and Mcparlands biggest asset in my opinion.
To the 2 Celtic boys on the site, I have no time for petty arguments.

22 Mar 2016 19:15:25
I wasn't even engaging with you (specifically) , far less arguing with anyone - so your calling us out to insist you have no time for (petty) arguments isn't just hypocritical, it's painfully ironic.

22 Mar 2016 20:26:48
Ditto recbob it was a civilized discussion BEFORE you started shouting your mouth off .

22 Mar 2016 15:10:18
doiger without knowing what or who the rest of the close season signings are going to be we cannot speculate or talk of how good windass or crooks are going to be i am quite sure the manager will know who his summer targets will be it will also be interesting who the departures will be.

23 Mar 2016 05:06:09
Again can I make it clear at no time did I say the two boys wouldn't do well, a couple of the reply's said the English 4 th division was as good or better than the spl , I don't think it is , I think if you took Northampton ( who are miles clear ) or Accrington up here rangers and most of the spl would beat them quite comfortably, that's not a dig at the boys you have bought, we brought Hooper from Scunthorpe and he was great for us .

25 Mar 2016 00:46:25
Jimjam. all I have to say is "Snooker, Joe Johnston 1986".
Yep. who?
