I read yesterday that every team line up Ajax have put on the pitch since 1981 has had at least one academy player in it. That is quite remarkable.
I know we are going down a different path with our academy now and i hope it's productive but I really think that is something we should aim to copy. I'm still for signing 2/ 3 quality players each year if we can but realistically we have to promote more of our own and make it clear there is a pathway for them.
Hopefully there will be no signing of mercenaries after a retirement package or diddies from lower league England who can't believe there luck when they get a 3 year contract and double there old wage.

25 May 2017 15:25:58
aye a can see barry mckay playing in a uefa cup final.

holland have had a quality international team, we have not . end of story

25 May 2017 16:33:14
That's his point blueblood. Holland have a good international team because of their youth set up and the way they develop younger players. It's something we should be copying. I saw a stat last night, don't know how accurate it is, but it said that Ajaxs team is only worth 15 million so surely that should be motivation to get a better youth setup along with youth scouting in place.

25 May 2017 16:50:54
totally agree PeterHuistra said a while back too Benfica do exactly the same with there youth, there team is crazy young

25 May 2017 16:55:59
Our young guns never fulfil potential. why. not given a chance. simples. 60 to 100 first team games by 20 year old soon mature them

25 May 2017 21:41:27
Davie that is right but the fans won't wait. Whilst the young players get that 60 game experiance there are a good few losses along the way. Then the fans want the msnager out so the manager won't take the risk.

25 May 2017 22:32:06
It doesn't have to be that way Johnny. 2 good youngsters coming through each season playing alongside good players should progress. there is always pressure on Ajax, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Dortmund to win games/ leagues but they don't fear blooding the youngsters. Now more than ever we have to hope to produce more of our own

25 May 2017 23:31:01
Peter you know that all Rangers want is a winning team. I agree that 2 young players coming through each season is great but they need to play alongside established good players. Rangers don't have any.

26 May 2017 06:05:27
I don't think we are too bad at bringing young players through HOWEVER, we are very quick to get rid and other teams in Scotland pick up the nearly finished article FOR FREE!

26 May 2017 07:29:59
Johnnymac

Good post mate and spot on the issue is that there currently are no good established players in our team to help the youngsters. Barjonas in his limited appearances showed more than Halliday, Holt and Windass showed all season

26 May 2017 18:07:55
Holland cannot have that good an international team because they didn't even qualify for euros last year

27 May 2017 07:37:17
Stiv65
Yeah the national team is struggling just now but they have had some amazing teams in the last 40 years and have been a force in world football

25 May 2017 13:01:03
Record headline:

"REVEALED: 69% OF RANGERS FANS WOULD CASH IN ON BARRIE MCKAY"

I don't remember being asked about McKay by the record. Any of you guys?

What it should read is:

"REVEALED: 69% OF MORONS WHO BUY THE RECORD WOULD CASH IN ON BARRIE MCKAY"

They are trying to cause unrest in our squad and it's not even pre-season yet!

25 May 2017 13:42:50
Even this morning being linked with Carlos Peña - they are now running a story that the guys a trouble maker and has problems controlling himself. I never see this sort of artwocle toward prospective Celtic targets or ano other team for that matter in Scottish football.

They'd be more honest running a headline stating 'WE HATE RANGERS - WHO AGREES? '. I hope that biased @rse rag goes out of business sooner rather than later.

25 May 2017 14:05:36
Hahaha yes! Spot on mate that made me chuckle

25 May 2017 15:27:09
get a grip with this ma dugs bigger than your dug guff.

they are not out to get us, they know we are tender right now and there to be annoyed.

relax and enjoy next season

in pedro we trust

25 May 2017 16:18:54
What's the point of the article if not to cause unrest?

25 May 2017 16:19:09
BlueBlood

I'm not coming from the argument, 'my dugs bigger than your dug'. I'm simply pointing out the inequality of their reporting at the moment and the imbalance. Trust me it doesn't effect my sleep.

25 May 2017 16:59:33
alrus, a agree they aw spout crap but it works both ways don't let them get to you, buy a different newspaper

26 May 2017 19:08:54
i read the record in the morning just to have a chuckle . even when they are nowhere near the truth of a story they print it anyway i don't know how they have no lawsuits pending for liable

25 May 2017 12:37:17
Don't know why I keep seeing Nikos name being put in next year's team. Aye he is good at passing but the guy can't run or put himself about.

Need a midfield that can battle and move around the park. Been missing for years.

Jack is a must and I would try get McLean or Shinne (could play LB aswell) from Aberdeen.

Even the boy McGinn from Hibs good engine and puts himself about.

Defence is another story so is the attack.

I'm not even sure Alves would be a good signing aye he's a big c*nt but that's about it. Saying he's a euro winner and that. Don't think he even played. Plus he's 35! Why not get someone in that in their mid 20's 30 at a push.

Naismith for that attack would be a great signing. aye he's a wee dick for the way he went about it when he left but if he scored the goals to win the league would anyone really be that bothered?

Moult would bang them in for us.

Wingers: I would try keep McKay and bring in Weiss, Gauld or Walker

Windass has something about him. He is good on the ball and has some pace just needs the games and confidence.

25 May 2017 13:07:05
I don't agree with signing bits and pieces of other SPL teams who were all not good enough to get anywhere near celtic and putting them in our team! Jack and Patterson maybe and maybe Gauld if he is being released but Kranjcar can be a good player to have even if he doesn't play every game or plays for part of games. We've Rossiter to come back, just like a new signing and I like the notion of new signings like the Mexican midfielder Carlos Pena and Bruno Alves. Three or four of the youngsters who have been given a chance should in the first team squad including young Hardie who has been out on loan and I'd also take Naismith back. I agree with you about Windass and feel he should be given a run. Finally, I'd keep Garner as I think he can score with a better midfield behind him.

25 May 2017 15:28:41
niko is class give him a chance

weiss, guald, walker cost money.

time to wake up and be realisitc .

25 May 2017 16:07:00
The only bit of your post I disagree with Doiger, i'd Hardie. I've seen him a couple of times and he's nowhere near what we need and he has very little more development potential. He'll make the grade at Livingston or somewhere.

25 May 2017 16:09:43
A Serious deficiency last year was our passing. I'll take any input right now

25 May 2017 16:15:59
How can someone be class if he can't get about the park. He's past it! Hopefully Harry snaps him up for Birmingham.

I never said bring them all in surely we could afford 1 or 2 of them.

We have always pinched players from other teams in scotland. So why not do the same now?

Need to build a younger more energetic team. None of this OAP carry on.

Am not trying to pick a fight boys just think we can do better.

26 May 2017 17:47:34
Agb! your original post is the best I've seen on here in ages! Absolutely spot on imo

26 May 2017 16:56:26
To be fair NK's not the quickest but was getting level of fitness and putting his self about well before he got injured! If we get players around him that can do the donkey work he can have a strong impact next season

26 May 2017 19:20:51
so pirlo who has never been a guy to run about was no good then beckham couldn't run many more players weren't the fastest but made great defence spltiitng passs that's what niko offers to the team and yes maybe only play him for an hour but he will creat goals and he has a great shot on him .

pedro has came out and said that niko is the first one in and last one out the door for us in training so for me he deserves a shout and p[eople doubting how effective he is when he plays are pesemistic glass half full type of people who's opinions don't really matter to me.

if he is mince then yes take him off but we all know the he isnt

27 May 2017 08:34:28
James! Beckham was consis entry voted one of the fittest players in any league he played in! Even in his later days, that guy barely stopped running during 90 mins, granted he wasn't the fastest but his work rate was phenomenal

25 May 2017 11:20:04
Any news on when our kits will be released for next season?

25 May 2017 11:24:25
I'm baffled to why people care about next seasons kit.

25 May 2017 11:36:30
Are you insane? Why would you even consider getting one!

25 May 2017 14:13:55
Not that I'd buy one for myself rather international tops due longevity and money's worth but if my kid wants the strip of the club he supports I've to say no because there's a boycott to which at his age wouldn't understand?

25 May 2017 14:21:24
Everytime I see someone wearing a new kit I think to myself "How can someone be so oblivious to what is going on? "

25 May 2017 15:13:02
G4rry

Im the same mate, how can I explain to a 4 year old he can't have the strip due to a boycott

25 May 2017 15:19:36
My Dad's partners kids clubbed together and bought him the new top for his birthday so he could wear it when I took him up for the Motherwell game last month. Was feared to be seen with him in case anyone gave him a hard time, but you can't exactly say thanks but no thanks for the present!
(Shame it's a nice top too! )

25 May 2017 15:31:35
we should all just buy they independent blue jerseys cannot mind the name.

they give all the money back to the team so i'm all for that.

dont want to give ashley any extra cash

26 May 2017 19:24:13
the last few years have been hard as I've had to tell my son who was five at first that the man that makes the tops is stealing from rangers so we can't buy them and instead he got the Barcelona strip which to be honest he seemed to love just as much as he would have a rangers top so there is how u tell a kid what's what

25 May 2017 08:20:44
I wish rangers fans would stop signing this god awful tiffany song its horrendous and just gives ammunition to our haters . we are probably going to be signing guys from portugal, mexico ect, our manager is a catholic . we have had great players over the yrs who have been catholic, we don't need to sing this s*** anymore there is some great old rangers songs we can sing without this garbage, I've seen great changes from the fans at ibrox over the yrs yet there is still morons intent on bringing the club down.

25 May 2017 09:13:10
Couldn't agree more, has nothing to do with Rangers. Support the team!

25 May 2017 10:37:28
I'd love to know how many people actually go to chirch these days or believe in a higher power to take a side. Personally I dont, but I was brought up protestant. Religeon divides. The old firm thing started with religeon but has melded into tribalism these days, backed up by a religeous divide. I know self percieved catholics that are Rangers fans and self percieved protestants that are Celtic fans. It doesn't seem to 100% fit the religeous dynamic anylonger. But I know few that actually go to or attend a church. Football has became the church.

Rangers weren't even a protestant team at the outset being formed by both jewish and protestant members. Look at our original badge - pretty similar to the star of David wouldn't you say? It was the introduction of Celtic 16 years later that set us on this path. Founded by Brother Walfrid, through the pride that Irish imigrants did that didn't want to accept charity from the predominantly protestant population. This galvanised one side against the other. Factual events.

We have came to a time where we should be looking past this. It's pretty hypoctritical to sing about 'f•n•a•n blood' when the players we're cheering on are this. Infact if we were to adopt stupid policies of the past, we'd have a pretty small slelection of players to choose from.

We're one of the oldest Scottish football clubs and nd one of the oldest in the world. We should be proud of that.

25 May 2017 10:48:04
Fair play Bigt75

25 May 2017 12:17:24
Same here. Raised protestant but quickly became an agnostic atheist when I seen through the religious bull. It only serves to divide and control us.

I'll never understand the morons, on both sides, who spout this crap but have friends, family and work colleges on the opposite side of the divide. hypocrites!

25 May 2017 14:23:09
It appears there's at least 5 of those morons on here Bigt

25 May 2017 16:17:53
After all the historical evidence we are still discussing it's about religion and accepting that Catholicism as one.

26 May 2017 19:31:12
who on here can tell me the difference between the catholic religion and the protestant religion.

as far as i see they have different personal views on life but all believe in the same thing so for personal differences of the past to still bring it into football in 2017 is disgusting and yes celtic do it too but now like we do in every song almost there is a sectarian version of the words and most don't know the real words to the songs

26 May 2017 19:56:12
First time posting. Strongly agree with original poster, in fact had a disagreement with other Gers fans at Perth on this subject. If the so called Gers fans continue singing this c**p in Europe, we all know what'll happen. Reported to UEFA and out before we know it.
Act like Rangers fans, sing about the Club, and forget this pish.

25 May 2017 07:31:59
Bears. Things are now at long last taking shape. Murty has enhanced role and Lovenkrands and the other 2 ex players being added to coaching side for academy can only be good. Small steps but steps in right direction. Any thoughts guys?

25 May 2017 07:56:51
Think we need to see how gets brought in and who goes out and how the new coaches perform before we can say things are going in the right direction

25 May 2017 08:49:39
I agree time will tell if we are going in right direction. I felt shortchanged last season it was hard to watch. I think we need to get a scouting team in place and what happened to DOF. All quiet on that front. I'm still hearing rumours murray wants to invest again. Time will tell.

25 May 2017 09:01:22
Surely strengthening and investing in the academy is the right thing. We can't buy our way back guys at least not in short term. I think its a good sign but agree we need to see how it develops. Rome not built in a day. i'm suck to death of everything going green! Especially these oast frw months and now we have the trip down memory labe to contend with. It was 50 years ago

25 May 2017 21:52:10
Murry wants to invest my a**e. Have you been following the Whyte trial. Murry couldn't wait to sell Rangers. The money was the banks money and the tax mans money not Murrys.

26 May 2017 11:36:17
It's the Ajax thing. They suffered for a few years as they strengthened their youth policy. Now it is bearing fruit and they are in the cycle where they move players on to clubs that can afford big money then bring through other kids from this established programme to replace them. That is the way forward. We are the biggest and best supported club in Scotland. What young lad would not give their right arm to become part of our set up at Auchenhowie?

25 May 2017 07:23:32
Rangers target Paulinho has signed for braga.

That's a bit of a shame I was looking forward to him wearing the the famous blue. I wonder how many more of our targets we will miss out on.

25 May 2017 09:05:42
All of the over ambitious ones we probably all want

25 May 2017 09:36:36
Who said he was a target? How did we 'miss out' if he wasn't? Stop believing the papers.

26 may 2017 14:09:43
we wont know who our atrgets truely are untill next week.
but i hope alves comes and naisy and wiess and jack and this new mexican chap i'd take him aswell

25 May 2017 05:06:54
was on the Nottingham Forrest chat and there's talks of them signing young arsenal players and have a friendly with burnley had a laugh to myself breadmans usual stunt so glad were away from that

hope starting early with the euro ties will give us a head start in fitness before other teams and start a momentum going early in the season.

26 May 2017 14:10:52
the lack of holiday time will help us be sharper next season from the start along with the great results we will get in the qualifiers
