I know some people were not overly enthusiastic about Gilks, but I think he's will hopefully become number 1,

I don't trust Wes, neither does our 2 poor centre back infront, I'm also not keen on Keirnan and Wilson, and would prefer another partnership, there is two many mistakes between Wes, Wilson and Kiernan.

I think Gilks has be brought in to eventually be number one, and would be very surprised if Kiernan and Wilson will be the two centre backs, I do thinks W&W has identified this, the full backs will still remain but the two centre backs and Goalie will eventually change! I'm sure of it.

26 Jun 2016 21:35:03
There's no chance it will b wes Wilson and kiernan first pick not a chance in the world but with ball there they were ok that's in the championship step up so there will be changes defo.

26 Jun 2016 21:57:48
Will be very interesting to see how this all works out. If I remember correctly Gilks was a good shot stopper but Wes is not so bad himself. Wes's distribution is good, although he did catch himself out a couple of times last season, but would not expect Gilks to be any better. So it comes down to who can deal with the ball in the air; Wes repeatedly looked suspect in this department and the aerial threat will surely be greater this coming season. This may be where Gilks can toughen us up and offer us something better. On the other hand, I think Hill will help with the airborne attack providing the keeper with much needed cover. And Danny Wilson is not too bad in the air and far more of a footballer than Kiernan so that may be a winning pairing, Wilson/ Hill! Then again bring in Mariappa and Wilson might be struggling for a game. Remember Jackson/ Johnstone/ Forsythe perm any 2 from 3? Happy days - 55 we are coming for you!

26 Jun 2016 22:11:16
Wilson and hill have no pace doubt it n hope not.

26 Jun 2016 22:26:24
I don't think the manager will have his best 11 sorted out yet never mind us lot. It will take a few games/ months of playing and tinkering to see what the best options are, and I think the players we have at our disposal give us the ability to tinker the style of set-up depending on how we want to play, ie- all out attack, or a more balanced, midfield dominance type line-up.

That said, here is my prediction for the opening day line-up.

Foderingham

Tav, Kiernan, Hill, Wallace

Barton, Crooks, Halliday

Waghorn, Miller, Mckay

This wouldn't necessarily be my choice, just my view on what I think Warbs might try, provided Crooks is fit by then. I think he will try to find a balance of keeping faith in the current players, and bedding in new signings slowly, but will add players he feels will give us a more solid formation that is not so open to the counter attack.

26 Jun 2016 22:29:38
I can safely say there is no chance Wilson and Hill will play together. They are both left footed, left sided CBs with no pace. Its one or the other, unless they are the only 2 available.

27 Jun 2016 02:39:14
Fod

Tav, crooks, hill, wallace

Barton, kranjcar, rossiter

Windass, waghorn, mackay

Forrester
Miller
MOH
Kiernan
Wilson
Holt
Halliday
Gilks
Hardie
Burt
Murdoch
Aird

Big squad now and probably going to get bigger before the transfer window shuts.

27 Jun 2016 09:13:20
Wes did look suspect at high balls last season, but how much of that was down to the CBs infront of him?

Our defence were shocking at dealing with high balls! I reckon that's why we took short corners too, because we were hopeless in the air.

Maybe with some solid CBs helping to deal with high balls Wes could kick on and progress to the next level. His shot stopping is decent and his distribution is pretty good.

27 Jun 2016 09:19:15
I also reckon Wilson's game will develop with a solid partner. He's a good footballer and plays out from the back well, which suits our play.

He just needs a rock solid partner to cover for and improve upon his defensive frailties.

27 Jun 2016 09:42:13
My Guestimation of starting 11 for opening game away to Motherwell, with Barton and Rossiter joining pre season later I think both might be on bench but expect both to be regular starters as season progresses.
Bell
Tav Crooks Wilson Wallace

Holt. Windass. Halliday

Waghorn. Miller. McKay

Expect Krancjar to replace Windass last 30, and MOH to replace Miller with Wags staying in central role (he will rotate with Miller when both are on)
If Forrester is fit I expect he could be involved at some point.

27 Jun 2016 10:01:19
Bell in goals and no Barton lol.

27 Jun 2016 10:09:01
I think you should maybe change bell.

27 Jun 2016 10:15:54
I meant Gilks 😂
As Warbs is treating this game as part of his pre season warm up I do think he might leave Barton on the bench as he's joining the squad later than the rest. The selection is based on what I think he might pick as for my own 1st choice team assuming everyone is match fit and sharp:
Gilks
Tav crooks hall wallace
Rossiter
Barton. Holt or Halliday

Miller Waghorn McKay
Krancjar
Windass
MOH
Forrester my impact subs.

27 Jun 2016 10:30:49
Bell has it hard this season, Playing for us AND Dundee United. Impressive stuff from the man. here's hoping we don't kick off at the same time as United any time this year.

27 Jun 2016 11:28:59
Gilks

Tavernier Crooks Wilson Wallace

Forrester Barton Rossiter Krancjar

Waghorn Miller

Something like this for me. With MOH chopping and changing for Miller and Rossiter changing for Halliday. Although I would like to see Mariappa come in and also a consistent goal scorer.

27 Jun 2016 11:51:08
Never going to play 4-4-2, Kenny89.

27 Jun 2016 13:46:45
my guess at starting line up lol!

tav ball mariappa Wallace

rossiter barton holt

kranjcar waggy McKay (maybe replace waggy with sum1 better if we can.

27 Jun 2016 16:59:38
Only defence in the league that plays 2v2 at the back and all the criticism falls on them. The GK and the two centre backs can't score goals so they can't ever escape criticism the way haliday, wallace and tav do, don't see you saying that they shouldn't be in the team. How many mistakes did the defence make that weren't as a result of Haliday being nowhere and the fullbacks being in the opposition box? As for wes far better shot stopper than gilks probably a better footballer too.

27 Jun 2016 19:26:16
Kranjcar is not a wide player, he will play in the midfield 3 and Windass is a wide player that won't play there!

26 Jun 2016 15:45:59
Seen a few rumours linking us with Fletcher and Lafferty. Personally I'd prefer Lafferty if I had a choice but would prefer a penalty box striker aka Bradshaw or even Cummings. Who would u guys prefer Fletcher, Lafferty or Cummings if u had the chance of all 3?

26 Jun 2016 16:16:01
Cummings out of they 3 but hopefully it's none of them. I'm still holding out for better than that for our striker.
Until we have solid interest in someone we'll not know what calibre of player the manager is looking at. When we seen Sir Davie with Marriappa it gives you an idea of what we're after for CB. Hopefully the first Striker he's pictured with is of the same standard as Barton/ Niko then I'll be happy.
Add a Striker of real quality, Marriapa and cover for RB and I'd be confident of winning it next year.

26 Jun 2016 16:22:06
Cummings.

26 Jun 2016 16:36:53
I think our striker is going to be a loan signing bears its just a feeling I have. Maybe a possible loan with an option to sign at the end of it or if we win the league. Just a thought.

26 Jun 2016 18:18:52
There'll be at least one permanent signing up front.

Really shouldn't be debated. Manager says he wants a striker we will get a striker permanently.

Likely someone not mentioned previously. Meaning no Bradshaw, Vaughun, Lafferty, Cummings etc.

26 Jun 2016 18:26:03
I know a lot of people rate Cummings but based on his attitude you can't seriously think Warburton would be interested?

I think we have a few decent offensive options as we are but I agree we could use an out and out striker.

26 Jun 2016 18:42:50
I'd prefer Adam Rooney he's a proven goal scorer in the spl he's not zlatan ibrhimavich (spelling) he's going to the other side.

26 Jun 2016 21:04:51
Cummings is a good option but I actually think a fit Steven fletcher would prosper in our team.

27 Jun 2016 13:51:33
I hope its none of the above mentioned but if I had to take any of them i'd take adam rooney boy can score goals for fun just imagine him in an attacking rangers side the boy could hit the 25 to 30 mark and remember rangers aren't like those from the other side of the city we have lots of players who can score so a 25 goas a season striker is perfect.

26 Jun 2016 15:05:32
if we don't sign a new striker this year its going to happen this year would prefer a young one kenny played amazing last season but he's rouding off his career now he's 38.

26 Jun 2016 15:09:39
He's 36.

26 Jun 2016 15:36:08
December 23, 1979 (age 36) you are online, do some quick checks before you post bluebear.

26 Jun 2016 16:19:02
Don't write Kenny off just yet. He'll still score when called apon next year. That's the thing, I think Hardie, Kenny and Waggy will all get goals in this team. I still want a striker but however we bring in will need to hit the ground running because their is already competition in that position who all scored goals last year.

26 Jun 2016 14:30:38
Love the transfer work for the midfield, but the defence is not yet ready, and a deadly striker, most of the names in here I'm not keen on, But if I was pressed I would like Bradshaw, because he can score and has real confidence especially the way he takes his goals and will have a sell on value, W&W could make him a star.

I would be interested in anyone with any knowledge of who that could be, not who people want but who realistically W&W and mcparland are actually after, because although we have good players right now I still think we're like a incomplete jigsaw, got some good pieces, but still need a few, at back and a number 9.

26 Jun 2016 14:38:33
I think we all think the same about where needs strengthened just as much in the dark about who the new faces may be

I've not got much patience and was hoping there were news of players today as the squad fly to us tomorrow hope there is something as the day Gos on

Just hope the palace defender is on that plane and Bradshaw who nos any ideas ed.

26 Jun 2016 14:05:58
Paddy's couldn't ask for a better start than that can they!

26 Jun 2016 17:15:22
Take it u mean Irish team started well, I blame the schools for your ignorance.

26 Jun 2016 18:18:26
Yeah paddy's aka Irish. Didn't mean to offend you assuming you're actually Irish.

I take your schooling comment with a pinch of salt, going purely by your name you must have struggled with basic English.

26 Jun 2016 23:31:40
I am Irish, and the term "paddys" was a racist insult to young Irish working and living in England, which I think you no "Rafbob"

27 Jun 2016 07:01:07
The term paddy's is also used affectionately to shorten the name padraig or Patrick, but hey let's go with the racist meaning.

I'm Scottish working in England and called a jock from time to time, I don't spit my dummy when people say it.

People like you who use political correctness when it suits them are known as hypocrites.

Get a grip and it's know not no, I blame the schools.

26 Jun 2016 09:06:46
Don't see us getting fletcher unless the top half of the championship are asleep. Free transfer that could finish top scorer in that league or at least be one of the top performers. In saying that, who would have thought Barton would have signed for €2 a week?

26 Jun 2016 10:33:14
thats all we need is big lumps of wood up front and change our style of play no thanks. I have loved the style of football we have played over the last season and don't want it changed in any way shape of form. there are plenty of strikers out there we could go for. it just takes a bit of imagination and scouting which i am sure is being done. we also need another defender and cover in the full back area of the pitch as well. anyway plenty of time left so no need to panic sure there will be another couple of faces brought in.

26 Jun 2016 11:04:07
Steven fletcher could finish championship top scorer? Have you seen his scoring record? The guy is awful, he holds the ball up reasonably well but so does Miller only Miller offers goals on top of it. I'd honestly say I'd rather kyle lafferty than Steven fletcher (I don't particularly want either) atleast Lafferty has scored big goals in big games for club and country.

26 Jun 2016 11:27:10
Laffertys gash mate, Did yo see him yesterday against Wales? Honkin mate, Every gets fan should let this one go, Been there done it, Trust warbs, he'll have something lined up for the striking position.

26 Jun 2016 13:02:49
I know lafferty is poor, I don't want him either I was just stating that given the choice I'd take lafferty over fletcher. Lafferty was poor yesterday but he didn't get the service.

27 Jun 2016 16:43:08
fletcher has more chance of taking Scotland to the final of the world cup than finishing top goal scorer in any league mate he is pish plus the fact he can't stay fit!
top goalscorer in the championship seriously go watch him play! lmao!

27 Jun 2016 16:44:47
he is just pish mate didn't like him the last time round wouldn't thank you for him now.

26 Jun 2016 08:38:13
Since we're throwing names in a hat what about Obertan? Fits warburtons criteria lot of potential, lost his way and can play in various positions across the front line?

Read he's out of contact and only 27.

26 Jun 2016 21:09:01
Keep obertan away tae buggery! He's never been fit since he signed for man u some years ago.

26 Jun 2016 04:14:55
Nicklas Bendtner out of contract, still only 28. Maybe wages could be an issue but think he would be a big player for us, certainly in the same level as Barton and Kranjcar. What do other fans think?

26 Jun 2016 11:26:18
Over rated lazy and causes unrest every club he has been at its well documented that his current/ last club had constant issues resulting in him being fined and suspended internally IMO stay well clear.

26 Jun 2016 21:10:46
Agree with jimbobgers! That guy is a trouble making waste of space! Completely over rated! God only knows how he's managed to play for some of the club's he has.

26 Jun 2016 00:52:59
He wouldn't survive in the Scottish game.

26 Jun 2016 00:52:25
I hope celtic sign Joe Allan he's a whiney wee bitch the slightest challenge goes in on him he's up screaming teacher teacher he hithit me lol.

26 Jun 2016 08:04:06
Aye and they will be able to afford him but he is a wee Bitch and it would be funny to see him get bounced all over the place.

26 Jun 2016 21:12:09
Be careful what u wish for! Joe Allen is a class act.

26 Jun 2016 00:42:29
Would love it if Warbs or Mcparland could talk to Barcelona about letting a couple of their academy players come over on trial with a view to a loan deal, they must have some exciting young attacking players on their books and they certainly know how to develop them. Probably not as easy as I'm thinking but I wonder if it's something our management team have considered trying, I mean if we're going to bring in a loan we should gamble on such a player, fingers crossed Warbs pulls something like this out the hat!

26 Jun 2016 00:21:03
I've got to admit I was gutted Steve Davis signed a new contract with Southampton the only player I'd welcome back.
