Can somebody please explain to me why the SPL clubs are in favour of this league reconstruction and why they are so anxious for it to happen now.

They are giving more money to the rest of the clubs, particularly div one teams, why?

We have a 12 team league now, it's rubbish, they want the same 12 team league. The only difference is that four clubs from div one come in after so many league games to form another league. That won't affect the top 8 in any way. Why are they in a hurry to push this through, I just don't get it. I don't buy this nonsense of good for the game, they, including us, have never shown any interest in the good of the game since SPL was formed, it has been what's best for us and sod the rest. Why this sudden philanthropic gesture?

Why the hurry, to give money away? There is an amount of money and a number of teams to split it between.

It is clearly unfair, not just to us, but several other teams too to change the rules in mid season, what is wrong with waiting a year, then everybody knows what they are playing for.

Can anybody tell me :

What is the benefit to SPL clubs?
Why the hurry?

Believable12 Unbelievable10

At present the SPL don't have a sponsor but they appear to have money to burn if the league reconstruction is pushed through. This would indicate that a sponsorship deal is currently on the table if Rangers are part of the package - I can't imagine that any sponsors are thinking about Morton, Falkirk or any other team. It would seem that when we got kicked down to the bottom tier of Scottish football the SPL were biting the hand that fed them. Now they have no sponsor and the Sky deal only went through last year because we were reluctantly part of it ( I think the SFA / SPL Mafia made us an offer we couldn't refuse).

Agree5 Disagree15

Easy more exciting games, more bums on seats and tail end of season

a league with only two winners in ten years is dead. and sky/ espn not interested and will show div3 games before spl ones!!

top 8 need real competition from the 36 others or reduction from 36 challengers to maybe 12 real teas that can fight.

death or glory. with aberdeen, dundee challenging europe like the 70's

Agree9 Disagree10

@2 if you think all that will happen due to reconstruction then you are clearly living on another planet. Dundee Utd & Aberdeen are struggling to make the top 6 so how do u expect them to be challenging in Europe? Doncaster hasn't a clue and rather than panic into quick reconstruction it would benefit the game if he was removed immediately. The Scottish game will remain in this state until clubs start producing their own talented players. This unfortunately doesn't look like happening for a while yet and there will probably a few more reconstructions before this happens IF It does

Agree2 Disagree1

Scottish football can no longer compete in the global world market for the TV viewing audience.

One helicopter sunday in 10 years, same old only 2 clubs win-anything, and no impact on europe ( 2 minor finals in 10 years)

While EPL has last minute winners, and nail-bitting finishes every other year, 3-4 winners rotating, investors rushing to buy big clubs, CL success, Europe cup wins. the lot.

How does Scotland improve its top 8. ?

Spl/Spl2 only way forward now SFL teams split for status quo.

Will dunfermline fall out of SPL2 and let Gers in the only big decission remaining?

Next year SPL/Spl2, two 12 team leagues, with 8-8-8 split after 22 games - last set of games all to playfor - it could work - better than current silly split and just watching for Gers or Celts to drop a point in last 8 games to decide season.

Agree1 Disagree2

2) how are the games going to more exciting? It is the same teams for the first 22 games, then four from div one join bottom four from SPL. So let's say Dundee v Motherwell in current form may attract 5000 people. Dundee v Morton, are you really saying that will attract more people?
They seem to think that play offs will attract huge crowds like down south, but one these clubs don't have huge fan base and there will be 14 rounds of play offs. I think it will attract less, so your bums on seats is flawed.
A league with two winners in ten years is no good, so La Liga is rubbish?
Better two winners than one which we have and will have for at least three more years.
Aberdeen, Dundee challenging Europe, don't make me laugh, their challenge will last 180 minutes.

Agree1 Disagree0

@ 2) so where is the additional money coming from to pay the SFL clubs when the SPL has no sponsor? The spl clubs giving up money to make the games more exciting? you're having a laugh. no one wants to watch St Johnstone playing Morton just the same as no one wants to watch St Johnstone playing Motherwell. It's always about money and there are no SPL clubs with money to give away.

Agree3 Disagree0

@4) As far as I can work out there have been 5 last game of the season title deciders in the last 10 years. England has had 3 or 4 tops.

I think 2 Euro finals is a reasonable return for a country of our size in that time. Holland has had none in the same time period.

And as for Dunfermline, why would Rangers be automatic replacements?

Agree6 Disagree1

Great post. I think all the Disagree's mean the east end loyal are out in force.

Agree0 Disagree3

@8: or just people who disagree. It's quite pathetic that you assume anyone who disagrees with a post you agree with is a Celtic fan.

Agree3 Disagree3

I think you are onto something there @1, the amount of disagrees also tells me our beloved neighbours are still in denial.

Agree0 Disagree1

3)spot on. In years gone by lower league teams produced decent young scottish players. They were then picked up by higher league teams with the end result being money was kept in scottish football. Now clubs go for cheap foreign imports (and I include lower league teams). The result now is clubs are skint and scottish football sucks at domestic and national level.

this league reconstruction is a complete joke. the spl couldn't get sponsors so they try to almagamate with the sfl to get a sponsorship deal pushed through. they even announce their opening day league dates. this tells me that after league reconstruction (if it happens) it is the spl that will be running the show. all this talk of one governing body for scottish football is sh%te, it will be the spl running our game. Now we find that the sfl clubs are proposing to delay reconstruction and the vote is not going the way of the spl so they are now in talks with the div 1 teams to form a breakaway spl 2. what happened to one governing body for all teams? we are in the same position now as we were when sky and espn wouldn't sign a deal unless rangers were part of it. at that time the sfl stupidly sold out for £1 million when they had the biggest box office draw in their league. this time again, a sponsorship deal can't be struck unless rangers are part of it. no one will sponsor the spl without rangers being in it and the deal will only be done if league reconstruction is pushed through or rangers are offered a place in a breakaway spl 2. I hope that if league reconstruction gets booted out we don't accept a place in a spl 2 if it is offered to us. to accept a place in a breakaway spl 2 would be betraying the teams that have worked with us over the last year.

Believable8 Unbelievable10

Let's get this right, let's stop the talk of the good of the Scottish game, the clubs will vote what is best for them. That's it, it is no surprise that those that will benefit most, namely div one teams, they are for it. There is no doubt that SPL clubs are making the agenda.

Agree7 Disagree2

Couldn't agree more. They won't be happy to the game is killed here, it's already critical. Too many noses in troughs who probably have never kicked a ball. HH Joe

Agree8 Disagree3

Div2/3 teams voted for suicide, div 1 teams for spl, so now spl2 can move forward with the two spl divs and 8-8-8 split. and rangers grt into the sfl rump and join spl2 one year earlier

and pay spl1 teams one year earlier

Agree5 Disagree5

Op here. @ 2) the Div 2/3 vote hasn't taken place yet. I think that when it does they will vote for league reconstruction 12 - 12 - 18. An improved financial offer from the SPL will see to that.
The only other alternatives would be to do nothing (financial suicide for SPL clubs) or form a break away SPL 2. Forming a breakaway SPL 2 is only possible if Rangers are part of it (no sponsor otherwise) but this would give Rangers their first opportunity to negotiate directly with the SPL. This is the last thing that the SPL will want to do as Rangers would want to negotiate not only an individual SPL 2 deal but also the current TV deal payments and the money that is due them for finishing 2nd last season. So it looks like league reconstruction to me and a new sponsor announced immediately after.

Murray killed the golden goose (Rangers) which laid egg every other season, and ran away with the loot.

why do rangers fans call for allys head?
He is top of his league. Have some patience and stop moaning. Wait and see if he is top of the league next year, and if he is not then start the moaning again.

Believable8 Unbelievable21

Come on you drunk? Guy of the street would win league with rangers this year, catch a grip.

Agree12 Disagree5

I understand that Ally can only win the league and he has done that easily. However the thing is that the football is not good to watch. He plays one up front, it is like Walter mark 2. There are however extenuating reasons for that and they should not be forgotten. The transfer embargo has taken a real toll and I think will this year too until January 2014. It should be remembered that we had eight players three weeks before the season started. Kyle went on radio and stated he would sign and would be cheap. They were rushing about trying to get quantity rather than quality. I think that most agreed that Sandaza, Black etc would be good signings but have been awful. Is that Ally's fault or are they just dross.

Agree2 Disagree4

Just about any manager could win the third division with the players we have.

The problem with mccoist is the style of football he is playing. Its bad enough playing the long ball constantly and winning well but mccoist is playing the long ball and scraping wins. A lot of the games we've won by a goal but been outplayed or matched by opposition and games where we've won by couple of goals was more to do with fitness than playing better than opposition with the goals being at the end of the game.

The games over the last couple of weeks have been dire from rangers point of view, they are just unwatchable. If Green wants to keep crowds up he will have to change the manager to bring different style of football or mccoist will have to change his whole philosophy

Agree11 Disagree1

Not winning easily or in style, poosing £1mill/ month just to win div3??

getting promoted key, and 2/3/4 th place can get that in knockout which we would win at a canter

Agree2 Disagree2

Are you not watching the games? If your happy with that then u are easily pleased. The tactics, formations and performances have been atrocious to say the least. The players Ally signed since taking the job have been shocking and the performances in all cup competitions has been shameful. Club wage bill is over 200 times larger than anyone else in the league and yet we struggle in almost every game. Open your eyes and see what's happening McCoist is clueless and must be shown the door

Agree3 Disagree1

Nobody from the liquidated oldco should have been brought forward to the newco. Nobody. Look at all these sponging ex players hiding in there making loadsa money off fans. They couldn't coin that in down south. Huge clear out and fresh new faces, nobody who was there before or EBT scammers. Green has had a year to stabilize and suss it out now sort it out.

there are loads of players being put forward as possibilities to improve our current squad. I think we need to sort out our main problem first - our manager. we need to get a new manager in first to assess the current squad. who should we keep and who should be moved on. i'm sure that anyone with a basic knowledge of football tactics could get this squad performing at a higher standard. most of the players we have signed have played at a higher level than div 3. surely they can't all be duds but ally is certainly making them look that way.

Believable14 Unbelievable7

29 Mar 2013 16:22:04
It is shocking. The two major sponsorship deals we have signed (Puma, Blackthorn Cider) Just cover McCoists Salary. This is starting to look very, very bad. Where is the revenue stream coming from? Yep, new cash call soon.

Believable27 Unbelievable6

29 Mar 2013 17:03:26
A team of Rangers's size should not need to be cutting corners maybe what we need is a share issue in the summer when there's no games on and this time round it should not be rushed and should let fans buy smaller amomuts of shares. After all which true Ger really would not have say £50 or £100 they would like to invest in the club?

A bit worried that losing money the way we are who is to say without this at some point we could not do a Dunfermline, ok doubtful but this would gives guarantee that we are safe and coulld invest in better players.

Agree1 Disagree11

You can't really say that. As of yet no one knows the details of the sponsorship, has Mr Green been talking? What is a worry is the fact these numbers have not been released. Also has the money been paid? I would doubt it. If not the figures don't have to be included in the audited accounts. This is all starting to have a smoke and mirror feel to it. Where's Traynor? All this bad publicity and the, very well paid, media director is no where to be seen.

#1 The man u want to give more money to has already claimed there's a 10 million warchest to invest in better players.

Seriously I do think most fans of most clubs would like to help their clubs out more but fear they're only likely subsidising rich owners, see Hearts & Romanov or Dunfermline where the fans completely distrust Masterton.

Read a couple comments on here and a few on different fans website angry that Neil Murray has been suspended. The only shock for me is that it has taken so long.
His job is to identify players which he is clearly useless at. Argyiou, Cribari, Celik, bedoya, Faure to mention a few. Its his job and he is failing dramatically at it. If I was performing as badly at my day job i'd expect the same treatment. can't get him out the door quick enough for me and he can take all his gem findings with him!

Believable16 Unbelievable12

See earlier comment re Anestis Argyriou and Sebastien Faure. Not Neil Murray recommendations but taken on to do a favour for Charlie Green's agant pal who was putting money into Ibrox.

Not that Charlie will be mentioning the fact any time soon.

Agree13 Disagree6

Didn't Green arrange for a couple of those to be signed?

Agree11 Disagree4

Why has it taken Chuckie so long to Sussex this out? Think finances are now getting very tight and he's looking to offload from the wage bill, IMO.

Agree13 Disagree4

Why are people angry? There are no facts in the public domain so no reason to get upset. He might well be totally innocent.

The way our players have been performing is down to the coaching. As we've all seen throughout footballing history, a good manager coming to a club (Walter with Scotland) can change things instantly. I believe players like McKay would benefit dramatically from having good coaches.

Ally basically said last week that players were in the squad when they were not good enough. What a ridiculous and detrimental thing to say about a squad. If I was a youngster at Ibrox I'd want out. It reminds me of when walter never gave barry ferguson 1 minute of game time and he was ready for leaving. Dick Advocaat came in and played him immediately.

Why has the young goaly who is sought afternot on the scene and starting to get games, were in the 3rd Div FFS.

seems to me that there has been a fundamental fitness problem at Ibrox for a long time. We appear to have a much larger proportion of players out injured for long periods, and to me that suggests a basic fitness problem.
This goes back several years, but when Wallace was taking us to the Gullane sands we were much fitter for it.
Any thoughts on this?

Believable14 Unbelievable2

The game has moved on. Football now is a lot faster than it used to be, look at the pace barca play at, with more strain on muscles and joints. Sport science spots it earlier and rests the players rather than have him out for a longer time.

Agree0 Disagree5

The army used to run up and down sand dunes but it wasted recruits ankles, Knees and hips.
Sand training for athletes is immensely inappropriate. Sports science shows there's more damage than good.

Agree5 Disagree7

@2 I am in the Army and that is completely false, anyone that moans about a sprained ankle should not call themselve a man.

Agree4 Disagree8

@3: there's a difference between 'sprained' and 'wasted' lol

And do you think professional footballers should play with sprained ankles and risk it becoming worse. Oh, sorry, I forgot, they should just play on and be proper men.

Agree3 Disagree1

@ 3, that is so moronic, it's brilliant. good god, you represent us overseas. I can just see it, one of your guys gets startled by a land mine and goes over on his ankle. and the rest of the platoon start shouting '' get up ya big jessie '' lol. shammy

@3, I was in the Army and that's when training was hard and an SA80 was an SA80 not some fancy new name, and we had a sandhill a big f***er at that, also that was about the time they started issuing Hi Tec trainers (Silver Shadows oh the fashion) why because there were so many ankle injuries with plimmies and also trying to get lads to run in combat highs that they had to act, we were always taught watch your feet and your ankles.

I don't expect too many Rangers fans to "agree" with this, I sense some of you will have hit the "disagree" button already therefore lol. Rangers overall revenue next year will be down, and down considerably at that.

Here are the plusses, by the looks of it the 4 tier pyramid of domestic football looks like it will stay in place for next season. With the opinions of the SFL teams seemingly sitting at around "50-50" I'd be amazed if it found enough votes for change in time for 2013-14.

That being the case Charles Green can justifiably hike season ticket prices (though there is a supply and demand danger there, exactly what price maximises income?) Rangers sponsors will no doubt be paying more money for a second division team than a third division team. There may be slightly more TV money accordingly too. There will be more money for winning division 2 than 3, though it is comparitive washers in the big scale of things. Other revenue sources will be exploited, the stadium renaming etc, has that been paid yet? Unlikely as the naming hasn't officially happened, so sure, more cash there too.

Rangers can also have big pre-season glamour friendlies too though from a footballing point of view will it have the merits of previous seasons for the likes of Chelsea etc? I honestly don't know if they will be able to attract the same quality as before given where they are and the standard of the team but then again money talks.

So sure some forms of income will rise, however here are the cons. If Sandaza's contract is similar to the other signings of last summer then their wages are going up incrementally as Rangers go through the divisions (Sandaza is on a 22% pay hike for next season £4, 500 to £5, 500. ) The season ticket price will be vital, as mentioned earlier a lot of disgruntled fans also saying they won't renew or come back should Ally still be in charge. He is on a one year rolling contract as far as I can work out from the prospectus. We are talking the guts of a million pounds if he is sacked and a reasonable chunk for his coaching team too. You would imagine, if a change has to come, then Ally has to resign or waive any severance money for it not to be costly to the club.

Being a second division club I would imagine they will enter the Ramsden Cup, League Cup and Scottish Cup all at later rounds than this did this season, less income immediately.

I don't doubt I'll have missed some pros and cons and apologies in advance for doing so but overall I would think the stadium renaming and pre-season friendlies will see the club slightly better off for all these plusses and minuses. There is however one glaring omission so far, the share issue, the revenue from that can't be in Rangers revenue earned for next season and with the club reportedly losing £1,000,000 a month some of these suggested signings are pure folly.

I think Rangers have seriously overspent to win Division 3 and given some of the big earners are on incremental wages (ie Sandaza's 22%) it is unsustainable. I debated with one of the Ed's earlier in the season that if you can't make money in Division 3 then when can you? And he said (with clearly more awareness of Rangers finances than I had) that he never expected a profit this season but a loss of £1,000,000 a month, come on? Sure Alexander looks like being cut but literally anyone else in a similar position needs the same treatment or to come back for buttons. Unless this monthly loss is severely slashed you can see Rangers surviving till the SPL return by the skin of their teeth or by having to ship out a host of their bigger earners by 2014/15 season.

As I said I don't expect many "agrees" by all means point out any financial omissions (I'm sure there are some on both sides) but this is totally unsustainable guys with not a great deal of revenue generating options left untapped.

Tommy Wilson leaves the coaching staff. Pip Yates leaves and the Stadium Manager also goes. Now Neil Murray has been suspended pending an investigation into alleged transfer discrepancies last summer. What exactly is going on? If you give Mr Green the benefit of the doubt you would think these guys were found to be no good at there job and were sacked, except Murray. If you go the other way, what has taken Mr Green so long in identifying people who were bad at their jobs?My worry would be that a certain Mike Ashley has his fingers somewhere in all this. Sports Direct gain stadium naming rights, stadium manager is sacked. Mr Green also stated their would be young players arriving through an agency Ashley has ties with, Chief scout is suspended. With Ally losing the trust of lots of fans on the footballing side, and the fact he is backing Neil Murray, is there a power struggle about to start. Or maybe with the share price falling Mr Green has decided to cash in his chips and sell up. Or has he found a way to remove Ally. One look at Mr Greens previous and this could go either way.

Believable16 Unbelievable4

Shades of Green's time at Sheffield United.

Don't get me wrong, our scouting is woeful and getting shot of Neil Murray is a must but like this?!. really!?
How convenient that the fans complain about our scouting then all of a sudden Neil Murray is investigated for transfer dealings?! I'm sure Chuck will FIND some evidence that allows him to sack Murray without the need for a pay off. , Ally and Durranty will back Murray and they'll be next on Chucks hit list.
I want a change in personnel for our scouting/coaching but not like this.
Chucks underhand tactics are quickly helping me make my decision about renewing my season ticket.
If Chuck tries to blacken the name of Ally or Durranty next I want no more to do with a club run by that man. It's not liquidation that makes a club die, it's a lack of respect for the people who ARE the club, legends, supporters and lifetime workers! Chuck has no respect and is treating us like mugs. Why are we just sitting back watching this man do this to our club? Time to wake from hibernation bears!!

Ally & Durrant are doing a great job on their own blackening their name they don't need Green to do that

Hard to argue with that post. A couple of weeks ago a guy posted on here that Green had put people in place to assess the business. His remit was to cut cost and waste. He was of course slated for being timmy. Seems he was not

Dont forget it was Green who brought in Anestis Argyriou and Sebastien Faure as part of a deal with an agent who helped broker his take-over. can't blame Murray or McCoist for that!

Theres no way McCoist will back Murray he hasn't even got the decency to back his players who play his nonsensical tactics, McCoist will cover his back and take the cash, that's what "not walking away" has come to mean.

Op get a grip of yourself cg knows we the support are not daft enough to sit back and watch him call all the shots we are the people that buy the season books cheers
