Anyone any idea how much Rangers get off the sale of a match day programme? Don't think the Fat Rat Ashley would get anything and club would probably get more than they do for a shirt sold.

02 Aug 2016 23:20:54
Rangers get £2 for every £50 spent on merchandise. So I'd say we get more for a programme.

03 Aug 2016 00:49:54
Yeah FREE top with every programme sold! ;) now there's an idea!

Does anyone know what the club display will be on Saturday? just seen they are looking for volunteers to help get it ready.

02 Aug 2016 18:45:43
It's a giant finger with the phrase feck the SFA beneath. tasteful i think.

02 Aug 2016 23:15:31
I hope its a good show of pride in our clubs comeback, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, and i hope Dave King is shown the respect and gratitude he deserves, along with the 3 bears, and one or two others, god bless them, they stood up and stopped the rape and theft and ultimately murder of this great institution, all we need now is outside investment. , and Rangers will be back at the top of the tree.
Tommy.

03 Aug 2016 12:25:49
hope its something to resemble our four year journey back to where we belong.

02 Aug 2016 15:46:14
what about taking a punt on Florentin Pogba CB with St Etienne his twin brother is with Partick this? also brother of Paul who has just signed for Man U.

02 Aug 2016 16:53:12
Worth a try, wants to be in the uk.

02 Aug 2016 17:17:32
Can't see us spending cash.

02 Aug 2016 15:13:43
Brendan is being made the favourite to be named manager of the month for August, source Daily Record.

This is news!

Do people actually read this utter garbage. You can tell its a slow news week on the transfer front when they come put with this nonsense.

What a waste of words.

02 Aug 2016 17:46:18
Personally don't think they'll win their first game on Sunday so he'll do well to come back from that and still be motm.

02 Aug 2016 18:15:10
Couldn't give a flying f##k about him or his club.

02 Aug 2016 18:21:01
Slow news day but haven't you just done what your complaining the daily record has done- ie share the news over a total non story. Whoops.

02 Aug 2016 18:42:08
That's what I've done yes, sharing the news on a Banter page on a Rumours website.

02 Aug 2016 20:54:57
Without a hint of irony.

03 Aug 2016 12:41:36
take a joke lol.

02 Aug 2016 13:44:52
Looks as though we're going to be starting the season with the current defence as it stands. So as much as we all want a brick-wall defence we're just going to need to persevere with the plasterboard the now n hope that the 3 stooges bang there head's together n come up with a plan between them to stop the leaking of goals! All being said the window is still open for now n we might sign our much sought after Defensive Guardian.

This part of the summer always gets to me, I guess it's the agony n ecstasy of the build up to a new season and also the fact of the eye's of the football world are watching us with a much bigger focus now, be it to have a dig or to applaud us.

02 Aug 2016 14:12:04
We would have started with the same defence even if Warburton brought in a CB a day or two before the Burnley game. He knows we need the defence sorted but he doesn't want to be seen as being in panic mode.

Fair to say we aren't going to have a brick wall defence. No team in Scotland has a brick wall defence.

Crooks and Hill for different reasons aren't going to be the main stays in defence. It'll be Wilson or Keirnan with a new signing.

Everyone believes Wilson is better than Keirnan, but Warburton seems to rate Rob highly.

02 Aug 2016 14:20:37
Thorn76, think you will be surprised with Crooks when fit, I have watched him numerous times and rate him very highly, can read the game well, very comfy on the ball and can play too, at 6ft 4 would slot into CH no probs,
better than what we have and WILL do a great job .

02 Aug 2016 14:33:05
Agree with you Brian-p. Think Crooks will be crucial this season. Maybe even more so than his former AS teammate Windass.

But this idea of being able to "Slot into" a certain position no problem is debatable. We had Andy do that throughout the whole of last season in the Championship and it cost us at times.

We missed out on Eustace, Diagouraga and were linked with the likes of Cory Evans. All holding midfielders, yet we stuck with someone who isn't suited to playing there.

If we do that with the centre back position this season it'll cost us.

02 Aug 2016 15:34:12
It is worrying that our centre backs at the start of the season are the same as ended last season + Hill. We saw in the cup final how poor they are and we saw it again against Burnley. Indeed anyone that watched the Motherwell game would surely agree that we could have been a couple of goals down before we scored and we won't be that lucky as the season progresses. We could be embarrassed in a couple or more games if the best we can deploy at centre back are Wilson and Kiernan and it will have an adverse effect on the entire team! We need a quality centre back hopefully alongside Crooks but unless Dave King magics up some funds for Warburton I don't see it happening. There are not a lot of good quality centre backs n the business and the ones that are there won't come cheap!

02 Aug 2016 18:24:58
How can people make such ridiculous statements in regards to crooks. The guy hasn't kicked a ball yet, he could be brilliant, awful or anywhere in between.

02 Aug 2016 18:53:24
I made the same point that other night and the answer I got was that one of the posters had seen him play and was excellent however that means nothing at a new club. Ian Rush scored a barrowload of goals for Liverpool but hardly kicked a ball for Juventus.

02 Aug 2016 20:51:24
The sad fact is that no matter how bad Crooks might be he couldn't be any worse than Kiernan or Wilson. Everything we have seen from his time elsewhere and the fact that a number of English teams wanted him suggests that Crooks will be an ideal acquisition.

02 Aug 2016 20:52:12
Still banging the same drum as last season biffo - that's right knock strips of a guy you haven't seen play yet - I'm sure the management and many other clubs think along the, same lines as you and know that he's mince - and how many years, ago is the Ian rush argument? Keep on supporting the team and praising the new boys biffo - that's the spirit - we'll see who is proved to be right after Crooks has recovered from injury and settled into the team - He is, a young player with ability -.

02 Aug 2016 23:27:41
I agree thorn. Warburton was quoted as saying kiernan would get to the top in the game. I read a post with someone saying we need an experienced defender to guide Wilson through games. That was wrong as he should be old enough and wise enough by now. He was great for hearts.

02 Aug 2016 23:32:03
Crooks must be played in defence. We have loads of midfield type players.

02 Aug 2016 23:36:04
Surely we are capable of finding a solid, tall, quick CH in all of Europe? There are hundreds, I hope the manager and assistants are scouting a few, Holland, Spain, Greece, even Italy, must have young players who want to come to the UK, and there's also eastern European football to look at, looking forward to seeing Crooks mind, but I don't believe its all about the CB, none of the current full backs Can defend either, you will never win any title without knowing how to defend,
Tommy.

03 Aug 2016 16:56:48
Totally agree biffo.

Another example would be laudrup- club legend for us, poor for Chelsea and Ajax after leaving.

03 Aug 2016 17:27:50
Afcw

As usual you make things up about what I actually said. At no point did I criticise Crooks my point is that until he actually starts playing you can't say how good he will be. I think that's a reasonable thing to say and not a criticism. Please do me the courtesy of actually reading my posts before making silly comments.

02 Aug 2016 12:21:23
Does anyone know when Matt crooks is fit for action.

02 Aug 2016 12:49:35
Matt was 2-3 weeks away from fitness around about the time we played motherwell so I'd say he could be involved against peterhead, if not then Dundee. Anyway he is very close to being back to full fitness.

02 Aug 2016 13:01:24
Yes advertised on club website.

02 Aug 2016 15:34:47
The sooner the better for me!

02 Aug 2016 09:41:56
Anyone know when the tickets for the Peterhead game go on sale?

02 Aug 2016 10:57:56
There on sale the now for season tickets or if you don't have a season ticket you can buy a non season ticket seat.

02 Aug 2016 11:13:51
You can get them now mate, i'm taking my wee girl with me for the first time ok she's 9 so not so wee.

02 Aug 2016 20:32:52
If you follow the club on twitter they usually tweet information on tickets closer to when they are going to be released.

02 Aug 2016 09:01:52
All this talk about another striker and a very good CB has to kept in context of the SPL. I've said before on here that we won't be playing EPL teams next season. The toughest tests will be against Septic, Hearts, Aberdeen and Dundee, in my opinion and they aren't exactly world-beaters. We had a young centre back on our books, Gasporotto but let him go. We had a young striker too, Hardie but sent him out on loan. Haven't seen Crooks yet but if the reports are right Crooks and Ball might make an impressive central defence. I also think Tav should be given a game at right midfield to use his attacking skills. Kranjcar and Miller should be used as subs most of the time as they don't have the legs.

02 Aug 2016 10:24:02
We don't play a right midfielder.

If you're suggesting we play him at right wing then i'd say no. He plays well coming onto the ball not playing in front of it.

MOH should get a game before we start putting players out of position.

02 Aug 2016 11:15:51
Hi fellow bears, this is my first post. Does anyone agree MOH doesn't seem suited to our style of game. He doesn't get to fully use his pace, maybe our plan b in games should be MOH through the middle and balls in the channels to him, just like he did to us in the cup.

02 Aug 2016 11:49:33
MOH has been good in games so far. I reckon he'll be a key player for us this year.

02 Aug 2016 12:10:17
Truebluejames 1980 - unfortunately, the style we play we do not play into the channels for him to use his speed. We have a very slow 30 passes build up, which allows ANY opposing team to get 10 men behind the ball, meaning we have no room for the 'killer' pass. Leicester proved last year with pace you can destroy anyone - -the Euros showed the same thing, speed and clinical finishing. Although we play nice possesion football, there is no end product against decent well organised defences of a higher standard than Stranraer or East stirling! I hope I'm wrong but I think we might be in for some shocks this year.

02 Aug 2016 12:15:09
I completely agree with your post bil72 but that's what I meant with a plan B we need to be able to adapt our play to different opponents since teams know our game plan.

02 Aug 2016 13:38:56
Welcome True Blue!
I agree that MOH doesn't fit and didn't think he would cut it at Gers. Hope I'm wrong obviously and he has done ok this season but yeah we DO need a plan B and that is one we could use.

02 Aug 2016 13:41:53
sorry bill 72 I don't agree with you we should be able break defences down especially spl defences but our own defence is the only worry for me we have the goals but no one to stop others from having the goals against us.

02 Aug 2016 13:51:53
Celtic, Dundee and Kilmarnock all failed to deal with our style last year. This year we have far better players and depth in the squad.
I can't believe the negativity on this site the last few days. we've recruited well and are only 1 or 2 players away from being a cracking team. Hopefully we get them in,

02 Aug 2016 14:14:06
Bil72 - Have to agree with your comments regarding MOH, I just don't think our style of play allows the boy to use his strongest asset "pace", I find him a very underwhelming player.

Even against Annan the LB was very rarely troubled by him, not good enough in my opinion.

02 Aug 2016 15:40:20
We have the skill going forward and given the game time I would expect Dodoo to score goals. What I have seen of MOH this season suggests that he is a good player, he just needs a goal to settle him. The problem however, and I believe that we all know it, is our centre backs and unless that is sorted we will be on the back foot in most games. Any team with fast players will cause our defence problems because Kiernan, Wilson and Hill are virtually static and it doesn't matter which two of the three that you play! We could easily have conceded against Motherwell before we scored and I dare say that we could easily concede against any SPL team because of the way that we play. Centre back is crucial to our style of play and the problem right now is that there is not a quality centre back at Ibrox perhaps with the exception of Crooks.

02 Aug 2016 18:28:50
Why do you think crooks is better than hill, Kiernan and Wilson? He hasn't kicked a ball for us yet and isn't even a specialist CD.

02 Aug 2016 20:57:05
Hill was well off the pace against Burnley and is a long way short of match fitness. I just don't rate Kiernan or Wilson sadly so from that perspective Crooks can't be any worse. What I really want to see is a top quality centre back that reads the game, is fast and solid the air and in the tackle and ideally I want to see how Crooks would fair alongside that player.

Unfortunately I do not see Dave King providing the financial support for Warburton to acquire such a player unless McParland can magic one up that will sign for nothing and play just for the privilege of being at Rangers.

02 Aug 2016 21:38:06
I have to disagree with you James. I think he is perfect for our style of play. He just needs a run of games.

02 Aug 2016 23:16:34
Doiger how can you say krancjar doesn't have the legs? There is no way he will be a sub all season. And as for folk moaning about waghorn he scored about 28 goals last year even though he was out injured for a couple of months. After what rangers and us supporters have been through the last four years we shouldn't be so negative about the team that warburton has assembled. Fair enough the defence isn't great but he will sort it.

02 Aug 2016 23:48:32
He, s good enough all right, just not being utilized properly, let him use his pace and skills at CF fir a while, mind, although most will disagree, we hot rid of a good young striker in Clark, after Ally destroyed the boys confidence, and Warbs kept taking him off, he will score goals, and Hemmings was the same, Imo
Tommy.

02 Aug 2016 02:18:32
Brede hangerland is a free agent 35year old but could do a job for one season he may lack speed but he a good no noncense strong centre back thoughts?

02 Aug 2016 07:27:14
We already possess a team full of no pace defenders well central anyway so we looking for opposite.

02 Aug 2016 13:44:34
naw deanobear we need pace in the cb role, that's vital as most of the goals against us will be from counter attacks!
we need sum1 that can catch up and intercept the through balls or balls over the top!

02 Aug 2016 14:16:08
Agreed James Stirling, a player with attributes like Mariappa is needed badly, not another slow defender.

03 Aug 2016 00:47:45
So, Plan B is do Plan A better, opposition Managers setting out their team to play against a style they are sure we're going to play, drilling their teams to face us knowing what Warbs is going to do and how the players are going to play after hours of video analysis.

Bang! Sneaky wee Plan B up the sleeve in case of an emergency! Just a thought but it would be the best con! Telling all how we play and won't deviate only to rip Plan A to shreds and break into summit else! Prob good one to pull out the Hat poss during a game on the 10th Sept? Maybe around the hour mark HaHa Trust In Warbs. And Bears I love Plan A and it should be done better.

02 Aug 2016 01:43:25
Guys, we could have the central defender we need already in our ranks with big Matt Crooks, looks very tasty, big, strong, quick and very good on the ball!
A bigger concern for me is Tavernier's defending, it's rubbish. Simple things like showing Stokes outside rather than let him cut inside, knowing your opponents weaknesses and making good passes!
Very good going forward but a long way to go for me. Hodson looks a good buy as do most of the others, especially the young ones.
I also have no idea who the striker will be, could it be Cummings?
Not quite a sensation but could be!

02 Aug 2016 08:15:10
Don't know why people on here saying Crooks is the answer at centre half when he hasn't played yet. Maybe he will be however we need another centre half. The defence is rotten and currently we aren't good enough to win the league.

02 Aug 2016 09:33:07
why is every one on tavs back yes his defending is suspect but wallace gets caught far to high up the park and gets away with because he stayed for the fight and is captain.

02 Aug 2016 10:28:45
I've heard several fans who seen Crooks regularly at AS compare him to a Busquets type of player. Technically sound and composed on the ball but not a big ball winner or particularly aggressive. If this is true he's not the answer at CF but we may well have another gifted DM on the books.

02 Aug 2016 10:55:36
People seem to be slating Tav for one goal conceded against Hibs (which imo was actually Kiernans fault) . If anyone can name another goal he was directly responsible for I'd be suprised, as I can't. Check his stats from last year, was involved in something like 38 of our goals, the highest out of anyone in our team. If anyone thinks we can afford to lose that amount of goals and assists out the team they are deluded.
He had a bad day at the office in the final, as did the whole team. Get over it. I think it's fair to say he took a really bad knock that day also.

02 Aug 2016 10:59:22
Recbob

Who was supposed to be marking Stokes for the Hibs equaliser?

02 Aug 2016 11:04:05
Is that a joke?

Did you not watch the last third of last season where most the goals we conceded came from teams exposing our right back area?

Not all tavs fault as he has lacked protection and our tactics have left him exposed.

02 Aug 2016 11:55:46
I agree that Stokes 1st goal was very much Kiernan's fault rather than Tav's but his header for the second came when he clearly and easily out jumped Tav-maybe the problem was more he was the wrong marker compounded by Fod's apparent reluctance to come off his line. Anyway we've analysed that game to death-we were poor that day and threw the game away. What worries me more is here and now. I really don't think Tav and Kiernan should play together on the right against any of the decent SPL sides-in fact Rob's confidence seems shot and I think a spell on the bench is warranted. I know Danny Wilson gets slated by many on here and he is capable of the odd brain fart and also lacks real pace but I think he is a technically better defender. So he needs the right partner which is either someone we get very soon or whatever the uncertainties we have to give Crooks a try there when fit. Back to Tav-while I can't think of many goals that were directly his fault apart from that stupid og (can't remember opponents) but he was regularly given a torrid time by speedy, tricky wingers like Bobby Barr and Miles Hippolyte last season and more recently Marvin Johnson BUT and it is a big but as you rightly say 15 goals and 23 assists is not to be sniffed at. So Tav gets my vote despite his lack of defensive ability but if we have no choice but to play Kiernan (why I don't know though) then I would play Hodson who offers a lot less in attack but seems a much safer bet with a dodgy central defence.

02 Aug 2016 13:52:05
got to say guys on tavs back just shut up!
the guy could hold back a little more but when he is settin up the goals or scoring I didn't hear a complaint and as for the end of the season teams weren't targeting the rb position as our whole team where playing dire after we had the league sewed up!
his defending need a bit of work but he is still better that rob or danny in their respective positions! plus his goals where top drawer so back off! Wallace doesn't get caught out as much and hopefully being the captain he can get tav to calm down a wee notch with his bombing runs down the right.

02 Aug 2016 13:59:48
That's a fair post Liverpoolger. Tav's good points heavily
Outweigh his bad ones imo. When teams are camped out in their own halfs Tav and Wallace are the difference in breaking them down. To be fair the boy Hodson can attack as well though so I've no worries when he does come in. I'm more hoping Hodson being signed brings Tav's game up a level due to the competition.
I also agree regarding Kiernan, he's simply not good enough. It's weird he could probably do a job down in England at Championship level but a think the pressure is too much for him or something, and it's not even started yet. Wilson and somebody better beside him would do for me. Hill as reluctant cover.

02 Aug 2016 15:59:31
Tavernier was one of our best players last season and his abilities going forward far outweigh his deficiencies in defence. As has been said above, Wallace also often is caught out when back defending. Both of these players should benefit this season assuming that Barton and Rossiter play consistently. The problem rests with our centre backs and our goalkeeper. A goalkeeper that does not command his six yard box and is poor with crosses is a liability.

As for our central defenders they lack pace, they lack ability to head the ball and Hill is clearly not match fit. A quality centre backs with or without Crooks is a major necessary and if Warburton needs the financial support from King to get who he needs then it has to be forthcoming. It could be the difference between finishing first and finishing fourth!

02 Aug 2016 01:37:23
Bears, I have faith in Magic, I'm sure he has a CB lined up but unfortunately due to the player bein a loan then it's last minute stuff but only to us and the press, IMO Warbs will have these players lined up, he will have his 1st 2nd choices sorted but it'll take until the EPL teams have submitted their squads and then said players will have options BUT Warbs will have players in mind AND I'm sure will be in talks with their Managers about taking them. I would love an experienced CB but an up and coming talent will suffice if that's Ball who I think it prob will be then so be it and the CB position is one he will do very well, even tho Warbs used the lad at DM last season I think we all know that the players we had available dictated such and I for one have no fears about Ball at CB, again any other players along with a CB comin in will be loans and top quality ones, I'm hoping for Izzay Winks but no matter who the Gaffer has coming he definitely will have the situation under control.

02 Aug 2016 07:29:09
Is Izzy winks a British player lol.

02 Aug 2016 10:29:53
Your hoping for another CM?

01 Aug 2016 21:29:28
So Scott Loony thinks Aberdeen are going to be their main challengers next season! If this comment alone doesn't get us going nothing will! I think he knows how strong we'll be and is fishing for a war of words but I hope Barton especially let's the talking be done on the pitch! Let's keep our tact and work as the strong unit Warburton has built! Defender needed and I know people are calling for an out an out striker but I think we have enough from middle to front ( if we stop trying to walk the ball into the net every game ) to cause most teams a lot of trouble!

Broony comments will certainly come back to bite him on his a55 and I hope more than anything that starts to happen come September the 9th!

02 Aug 2016 07:56:43
That's a bit unfair calling him a loony he's right Aberdeen will be their closet challengers for second.

02 Aug 2016 10:34:28
Honestly, I feel he has to say this as all he is, or ever was, is somebody to get under the skin of opponents on and off the park. He's now struggling to do it on the park and coupled with the slating he's taken of Barton on Twitter this is his only response. As long as the media and dumb Celtic support continue to pander to this mug then he'll remain their Captain and this can only be good new for us. Long live Broony!

02 Aug 2016 10:55:59
He's a loony alright and so is anyone else that thinks Rangers and Sellick won't be 1st and 2nd (in that order! )

Brown is obliged to be sellicks motormouth to keep up a persona, even if he doesn't actually believe the nonsense that he spouting himself!

02 Aug 2016 11:01:31
Scott Broons opinions are like his playing style, dated. I don't think I've seen him hit a team mate with a pass once in the 3 games a watched them last year. Woeful player. Ball, Halliday and Holt taught him a footballing lesson last year. Barton, Halliday and Rossiter will embarrass him in September. He is a yesterday's man struggling to hold on.
I honestly don't care who they play against us in the middle of the park, we have better regardless.
Broon thinks the Sheep are a good team because they ran them close for a while, I personally just think it shows how bad Celtic actually were.

02 Aug 2016 14:00:09
I know Brenda isn't done in the window but I think with the style of football we have here coupled with the fact that loony broony is there we will have the best midfield and that will dictate how the game pans out

that being said I think without a solid fast cb we will get hurt by the likes of dembelle and the wee rat.

02 Aug 2016 15:12:39
Got to laff at the loony broony stuff, comedy gold.
By the way for school playground reasons if he is loony Broony where does that leave Barton lol.

02 Aug 2016 16:03:27
We have a good midfield and a good attack, (even if Warburton wants another striker), but we have major deficiencies at centre back, (and Rogers has strengthened Celtics defence with the capture of the Liverpool guy. We will struggle with Kiran and Wilson at centre back and Hill is a long way short of match fitness. If we want to win this league we need at least one top quality centre back alongside Crooks.

02 Aug 2016 20:35:07
thebear82 with a class response I like it.

01 Aug 2016 23:58:12
Be happy with the strikers we've got in dodoo waggy ohalleron miller. More concencerd about centre half need a big no nonsense defender with a abit of pace too. Maybe the load market might be the best option, kyke bartley was decent for us? Maybe even get ball back! But the fella harley dean is a real defender from brentford would be class addition don't think we could afford him if im. honest! Have faith tho!

02 Aug 2016 00:27:15
I agree bout the defender that should come first but I hope I'm wrong but I think we do need a nd a proven goalscorer and I feel against better defences this season that waggy won't cut it and I believe Miller is over the hill can't praise effort tho and believe dodoo will be great signing.

02 Aug 2016 01:03:25
Still need another striker and defender if we are serious about challenging celtic.

02 Aug 2016 08:02:26
not one of those players are an out and out strikers, millers nowhere near good enough, waghorns not that great, ohallorans shooting is awful and dodoo is untested. we should have signed hemmings or Rooney.

02 Aug 2016 08:19:53
O'Halloran isn't a striker and doesn't have a great goal scoring rate, Miller has served the club well but is past it and both Dodoo and Waghorn are untested in the top league. It's clear we need a finisher and it astonishes me that some people seem to be happy with the current squad. At the moment I don't believe we can win the league and hope that we can get a centre half and centre forward in.

I think the reason people aren't too worried about another Striker is because we have goals all over our team. Waggy will score 20+ (a lot of them will be penalties) . But then you've got Windass, Dodoo, McKay, Halliday, Niko, Tav, Wallace, MOH, Miller etc who will also chip in with their fair share, it's the way we play, we spread it around. Celtic have Griffiths.
The way our manager likes to play is with a forward who will come and get involved with the play, almost a false 9. People keep saying we need a poacher, the manager won't want this type of player.
Defender is the priority and should have been the first player bought this summer.

totally agree with you rec bob I've said it before we don't need a 30 - 40 goal a season striker as our whole team scores goals just tav and waggy who was injured for a good few weeks scored about the same as the wee rat then when you throw in the goals fae McKay Wallace and that's just the playser we already had now we have a fit moh king Kenny is still a great player to have in your team don't care what anyone says.
now we will have added goals from the new boys in blue .
so just a cb or two would be nice.

yes the full team does score In games but we need a striker who is going to bury that 1 chance in a nil nil draw. or score that winner against Aberdeen or celtic and sadly none of our striker have that cutting edge.

Hemmings and Rooney would have cost money we just don't have to spare for them. Wouldn't be adding value having to bid 1m+ likely for these players cause we are Rangers and clubs love to add a Rangers tax up here. MW has done more than well down south.
