Either Graham Murty is viewed by our the club hierarchy as being capable to be our 18th permanent manager. or more likely the drift endemic to his ongoing caretaker role reflects the complete lack of direction/ decision making currently for all to see at our club.
Is our board waiting to see if that semi final can be won and that the cup might be lifted to then confirm GM as manager? If so, what a travesty to be making such an important decision in such a way.
We've all got varying opinions on this matter. my own.

I see a clear analogy to the situation of Davie White who was appointed our manager in 1967-White was considered a manager of promise but a comparative rookie who could not put a halt to the relentless march of Celtic under Jock Stein.

A cup semi final victory would buy GM some time with the support. but even with such a victory and it's a big if! should such a pivotal decision be arrived at by our board in such a way?

If Murty is not confirmed manager then valuable time this season will have been lost in regards to a new manager shaping his squad for next season .

If Graham Murty is deemed good enough then why is his appointment not being confirmed now.?

03 Apr 2018 23:46:12
Perhaps the powers that be have decided on a new manager already. Do you not agree that it could have a negative effect on Murty and the current squad to announce Murty will be removed from the managers position come May.

He is the manager until the end of the season, the end of the season is the correct time to announce who will be in charge next season.

04 Apr 2018 08:06:39
Arcadia72,if graeme murty gets the rangers manager's job beyond this season he'll become the 17th manager in our history! You're 1 position ahead of yourself mate! lol

04 Apr 2018 08:45:08
Thanks Coops for putting me right re my numbering in respect to our managers!
My own feeling is that I think regardless of the result in the Semi we need an experienced manager to be taking the reins of our club now. that's why I made the analogy to Davie White.
Look at the way we have responded to the sacking of Caixinha as opposed to say the way Crystal Palace responded after the sacking of Frank de Boer. the London club had also to be ripping up their script after a false dawn but almost within hours of De Boer's sacking they had appointed Roy Hodgson. decisive decision making.
I'm not saying that Steve Clarke is the man but all these comments about his supposed green tendencies ruling him out. if football management was all about emotions then the likes of John Greig, Tommy Burns, Willie Miller, Pat Stanton etc should have been absolute successes in their managerial careers at clubs they loved.
In England there have been appointments of managers such as Danny Wilson at Sheff United/ Sheff Wednesday, George Graham Arsenal/ Tottenham, Steve Bruce Aston Villa / Birmingham also Bruce as a Geordie managing Sunderland, Brian Clough Derby / Nottingham Forest.
Maybe it's OK for supporters to have emotions . it's the lifeblood of being a football supporter but we need the hierarchy of our club to be leading with their heads.

03 Apr 2018 21:56:15
well well, a few weeks ago we were flying high, Hibs AND Aberdeen won tonight and suddenly we are staring 4th place in the face. IF we don't qualify for the Europa League, who is to blame? and now, how many MORE players are we planning to bring in during the summer / won't matter a tuppeny hoot, we have an average bunch not capable of winning anything, and we are still stuck with Herrera, Alves and Pena, wow that's some wages for what? and reputed to be paying Rossiter 10 grand a week. No wonder every picture you see of him he is grinning like a Cheshire cat. We are in thevold kak once again, like it or lump it, nobody outside Ibrox is to blame.

04 Apr 2018 08:55:36
Looks highly likely would could finish 4th guys and that’s very worrying. Do we really want to go into next season with Murty in charge? . The points we have dropped At Ibrox alone tell me he can’t hack it. Even if he beats the Tim’s he won’t get the job🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

04 Apr 2018 10:35:27
But he won't beat the Tims. The cup is just a dream. They will win double treble. They will probably win 10 in a row. Unless we get a team of destroyers just start snapping into tackles and taking no prisoners. Make teams hate to play against us. Get the fear factor back.

03 Apr 2018 21:04:44
Didn’t realise how close Hibs were to us until tonight 🤦🏻‍♂️

Fs Rangers! We could seriously be looking at 4th unless we can figure out how to beat Hibs and Killie.

03 Apr 2018 21:14:04
We could easily finish 4th place and have lost more games than Kilmarnock and Hibs this season. Incredible that some people on here want Murty as permanent Manager when he has so many games

03 Apr 2018 21:53:33
We have lost more games than Hibs and Killie this season. That’s what’s worrying me, there is a serious possibility of being overtaken in the next 7 games.

Need to hope we can find some form, but we have been waiting for this all season.

03 Apr 2018 22:23:53
squeaky bum time lads, i don't feel any confidence in the run in unless we get our finger out, see the sheep pumped motherwell

03 Apr 2018 22:29:22
Well it's tough at the top, as they say, but it's even tougher where ever your lot are.

03 Apr 2018 22:39:17
No offence Bearmode91 but why did you just realise that until tonight. If Kilmarnock win their game in hand they are only 7 points behind. Forget 4th its not beyond the realms of probability we end up 5th. I don't believe that will happen but this run in is doing nothing for my blood pressure.

Unfortunately the results in the last few weeks have probably decided Murtys future. Unless we get a convincing 2nd and lift the cup, time will tell.

03 Apr 2018 23:12:34
The pressure for us in the race for 2nd place in the league, is now on big time! We have a mini league of rangers, aberdeen and hibs, within the league in a close fight for the runners up position! We now have lost 2nd place tonight, with aberdeen winning and hibs are breathing down our necks for 3rd, after their win tonight! From graeme murty all the way through our 1st team squad, its time to show your bottle and ability now! We're going to find out in the coming weeks, who has the stomach to play for the famous glasgow rangers! This is now one incredibly hard fight, we now find ourselves in, make no doubt about it! let's start with going out at ibrox against dundee on saturday and making a massive statement of our intentions, in what are all cup finals for us, from now until the end of the season! There's no leeway now, our players have to go out and prove their worth, that they're capable of playing for a club, our size and expectation! Our supporters questions are about to be revealed!

04 Apr 2018 07:40:03
Supercooper

I have very little confidence that some of our players have the fight in them. This season has been another disaster and it is going to be a battle for 2nd place. My gut feeling is another 3rd place finish

04 Apr 2018 08:19:34
It is a very simple equation for us to finish 2nd. We win our last six games! Easier said than done I'm afraid but don't forget that Aberdeen and Hibs have to play each other after the split plus celtic and us and probably Kilmarnock and Hearts. Much to play for.

04 Apr 2018 09:43:20
I agree with arthurd, I also doubt murtys ability to instill confidence in the players at the moment. And even IF we get a result against Dundee it doesn't mean everything is rosy again.
On a different note, have we missed another trick by not going for Steven Caulker? Somebody has bid £1.8m for him after a couple of months at Dundee?

04 Apr 2018 09:52:53
TJBB

I just didn't realise they had a game in hand, I obviously knew they were close behind but seeing the results last night and now that they are a point behind us with another visit from them to Ibrox.

I apologise and will try to keep up with all teams SPFL fixtures better in the future.

04 Apr 2018 14:48:53
Really can't understand how any supporters who go to the games can possibly want murty as the manager next year, the guys record as manager is terrible, he's the u20 coach.

03 Apr 2018 13:32:02
If you give walter smith 15 million he will build a championship winning team. No more pretenders just get the legend back.

03 Apr 2018 14:03:59
Sir walter got us to the uefa cup final with kirk broadfoot christian dailly and ricky foster in defence i fear he's the only man that could stop them getting 10

03 Apr 2018 14:24:36
RfcChris and R. T. I. D., both you guys are correct, i agree that sir walter smith, without question would build a rangers team, to stop them getting 10 in a row, but the gentleman has retired and i believe he's thoroughly enjoying his retirement! Wattie is an absolute legend to me also guys, like he is to probably EVERY living bear out there! Imho we have to let's send for walter, everytime we're in trouble, go! The guy has done his time and was wonderful at being our manager in his 2 spells! We have to move on and our board no matter who they appoint, have to get this 100% spot on! We can't keep this "SEND FOR WALTER", everytime we're in a spot of bother, we have to look to be appointing the possible next sir walter smith! Wattie owes us nowt and has well and truly earned his retirement! let's leave the guy this way and enjoying his life without any pressure or stress! Spoke to him at the rangers legends game and he's looking well and is the usual walter! A total gentleman, great manager and glasgow rangers legend! Forever part of the rangers family!

03 Apr 2018 14:47:55
For me he ticks all the boxes anyone else is a gamble and a risk we can't afford to take. I understand what your saying supercoop the legend needs to be allowed to enjoy his retirement but these are desperate times man. I watch every game with sub par players trying to play like barcelona. Flying wing backs caught out of position. Midfielders bullied off the ball. 1 striker up against 4 defenders. We need a fresh approach because this is warburtons tactics with slightly better players and isn't the answer if we want to win cups and league titles.

03 Apr 2018 15:24:00
My only slight worry about what you're saying RfcChris, regarding wanting walter smith to return as our manager, is he's been out of football management for 7 years now mate! That could be too long!

03 Apr 2018 15:27:40
He's 70, I doubt he is interested. Let it go, we need to stop living in the past.

It honestly just needs a good manager to take the reigns, look what they have got in Brenda, remember how bad they were under Deila? He brought in a few signings of his own and sorted the squad that was already there.

Our team does not need 15m spent on it, i'd say 2 CB's a proper CDM and another forward - quality over quantity, that's what Smith always did, he worked with what he had, any good manager will do that.

I admit however that the candidates are not great, I don't even know who I'd like, but Smith is retired lads.

03 Apr 2018 15:36:54
Coop, if Walter was offered a bit of cash backing I think he may well come back. As we have discussed there is nobody out there for the job? 2 year contract and see what he says? THE MAN FOR THE JOB! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

03 Apr 2018 15:40:29
Coops correct but still feel Walter would welcome opportunity to become formally involved in advisory capacity to support Murty.

03 Apr 2018 15:35:48
We have to stop living in the past and build now for the future.

03 Apr 2018 15:41:35
Think all this chat about Walter back is a non starter. Yeah we need a more experienced man at the helm but it won't be Smith. Further I don't trust our directors to get it right either. DOF should have say as well as previous players. Maybe Greg, Brown, Mcoist, etc. Just a thought.

03 Apr 2018 15:50:45
Close Brothers might be willing to extend and enlarge the overdraft facility, if you ask nicely.

03 Apr 2018 15:55:02
Bankie, do you not think if a manager needs someone in an advisory role then he probably isn't suitable for the job?

03 Apr 2018 16:04:49
A no brainer. If he hadn't been asked then ask him now! If he says no then we move on.

03 Apr 2018 16:11:05
Fed up hearing about the ex manager and a number of ex players posters on here are wanting back. It's never ending drivel. Let it go and forward think. The past is the past.

03 Apr 2018 16:34:49
I for one don’t want Walter back. If we give him £15mil he would build a team of 30+ year olds and when he retires we’re back to square one with a team of has beens with on sell on value. Let the man enjoy his family time

03 Apr 2018 18:53:10
Where’s is this money going to come for Walter or whoever our manger will be?

03 Apr 2018 19:22:20
I can hardly believe I'm reading this mince. Let's get something straight here. Walter Smith has RETIRED. Walter Smith will never manage Rangers again! Take that as fact and let's move on.

03 Apr 2018 19:34:07
Boab you asked where the money was coming from last year and the year before, I guess you will keep asking till Some hugely rich guy buys King out (you'll be waiting a long time in my opinion) money will be found.

03 Apr 2018 21:19:18
RITD

Ricky Foster didn’t play for us when we got to the UEFA cup final

03 Apr 2018 21:23:58
Burnbank. Would you say no to Walter Smith if he wanted to come back? Surely he can be asked? If he decides against it then fine but ask him! Why wouldn't you? If he or Alex McLeish had spent Pedro's money we would be top right now. That's how important it is to get the right man. The Pedro episode was doomed to failure before it even started. Still can't believe we went down that road. Big, big, huge mistake

04 Apr 2018 00:14:05
Arthur d your right but he got man of the match against a quality Valencia side if I remember correctly.
We are in deep Dodoo if we drop any points against Dundee this coming weekend.

04 Apr 2018 14:43:40
Walter said a few weeks ago that the Scotland managers position is the only one he will come out of retirement for, after he rejected it.

03 Apr 2018 12:24:35
I have been saying all season the current squad are weak mentally and physically. There is a Scottish term which best describes but I won't get away with posting it. If we are to stop 10 in a row we need a strong manager who can get the best out the players he has and can recruit wisely. Murty is clearly not the answer although he has improved the squad and the level of performance but 10 in a row will get closer if he stays in charge next season. We must be actively assessing who that new manager will be over the coming weeks and ensure we get it right this time. He must be appointed as quickly as possible at the end of the season. No more massive mistakes like pc will be accepted. In terms of accepting and celebrating 2nd place is not acceptable now or in the future. This is Glasgow Rangers . 2nd is not acceptable

03 Apr 2018 12:45:30
Agree about 2nd not being acceptable but do you have any faith this board will secure a boss of the caliber required to stop them winning ten?

03 Apr 2018 13:10:57
10 in a row gives me sleepless nights, I hope our board feel the same. If that's the case we should be seeing them pulling out all the stops for next season. i'm hoping there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and will see some big announcements at some point with regards to sponsorship, shirt deals, investment etc.

Steviec - I would echo your thoughts, second even if achieved is not acceptable although there is no doubt that's as much as we deserve this season, however it should still leave a very bitter taste in the mouth of every Ranger out there.
