Hey guys, thanks for your thoughts on summer football love the debate. Now for the next debate bringing back alcohol into stadiums! I'd love to have beer watching rangers. should alcohol be brought back into Scottish football grounds?

03 Dec 2015 21:51:15
Jason before stadiums are ready for alcohol being allowed, individuals must prove they are ready for it. Fans of all clubs have proven time and time again that they can't be responsible where alcohol is involved. As much as I like a drink as the next man, I'd think twice before taking my sons to the 'Ibrox Pub' to hear and see events that will take place. I think it would be a huge revenue income to the clubs but the outlay for extra police and repairs to damages etc would cancel that out in my eyes. I'm sure spectators can manage to go without a drink for 2 hours to watch there team play football.

03 Dec 2015 21:54:28
No, too many numpties.

03 Dec 2015 23:42:22
Me and a friend went to the Scotland v England game at Wembley, sat in the England end and had a pint at half time. why can't I go to watch rangers play hibs and have a beer?

{Ed033's Note - It would be interesting if we lived in a society that could identify 'numpties', then they would have to either:
1. stay in their home all the time
2. come out and admit they are a 'numpty'
3. change their behaviour as to not be a 'numpty' any more (most likely option)

04 Dec 2015 08:45:43
Ed

do you really think (3) is in any way likely?

Numpties have been going to football and wasting it on many occasions since my first game in 1963.

{Ed033's Note - No of course not, we don't live in a society that can identify 'numpties'

04 Dec 2015 09:33:14
Surely with all the cctv in the stadium's now it would be a lot easier to identify the numpties and bring them to justice . England had a far greater hooligan problem than us and there is not a premier or championship stadium now where you can't enjoy a pint.

{Ed033's Note - It might well be that the clubs would have to pay the legal bills for such an endeavour and the cost analysis made it unfeasible.

04 Dec 2015 10:26:28
It's a real pity, because the minority as usual will stop it from happening, it could be a great money maker for the club as well but the persons ruin it for all of us.

04 Dec 2015 13:55:17
I agree football ain't ready for alcohol even tho u can sit in there bar up till kickoff then get refused entry for having a drink. You have to look at rugby. Calcutta cup for instance england v scotland. fans integrate around the stadium having drinks while watching the game. never any trouble.

ref sends a player off he talks to the captain tells him why then sends the player off not all huddle around the ref giving him a hard time just for a daft free kick. i would like some sort of new rule where ref talks to captains also if teams harass ref like they do then club gets fined. football fans and clubs don't change with the times still living in the dark ages.

03 Dec 2015 19:26:08
I have just watched the presser from Mark Warburton, the more i hear him the more impressed i am, he dealt with the dumb questions asked with aplomb, he made the journalists look like rank amateurs . He exudes class, a fantastic leader of our club, and as i have said before, our best signing in years. This man will do something special with our club, he has it all.

03 Dec 2015 23:35:29
Here, here safetyman2, mark warburton is undoubtedly imo one of the best signings in the history of our great football club. I said when we appointed him as our 15th manager back in june that he could have an even bigger impact at glasgow rangers than even graeme souness had!

No slight on souness who I absolutely worshipped when he was our manager but I think warburton is a better manager/coach than souness as I have to be honest when saying that souness was a cheque book manager as was walter smith whereas warburton is a terrific coach who can bring through and develop young players through our fantastic facility which is the very impressive murray park! The 'magic hat' will go on to become a magnificent rangers manager who'll leave his legacy and mark on the famous glasgow rangers!

04 Dec 2015 00:30:18
Think it's far too early to be heaping praise on Warburton. He hasn't won anything yet. Souness and smith both won trophies at the club and until Warburton starts to win trophies you can't compare him to them.

04 Dec 2015 06:54:34
Fair point Biffo you can't get legendary status that easy.

04 Dec 2015 08:20:20
I think with all due respect to you biffo316,you're missing my point mate, souness and smith had fortunes to spend ie. just like I stated in my post, cheque book manager's, that's not a slight on them because that's the way rangers went about there business back then, my point is I don't think warburton needs to spend big money as he's a very good manager/coach who can spot and develop young talent from a relatively young age, souness and smith very rarely gave youth a chance, I hope this clears up the point I'm trying to make here!

04 Dec 2015 13:57:53
No I'm not missing the point when u r. Both Souness and Smith were in the top league against Celtic and think you'll find that there is a bigger gulf between Rangers and the teams Warburton is up against to the teams smith and skinless were. Can you tell exactly what Warburton has actually achieved just now? We are currently in the 2nd tier of Scottish football up against some part time teams with a playing budget of over £5m.

04 Dec 2015 15:30:13
So would you say that Alan Stubbs is of the same criteria? . considering he's a few points behind you in the table and in a cup you have been put out of (whilst beating the second best team of Scotland on route I may add) all with an even lower budget. Is he better than Souness and Walter aswell?

04 Dec 2015 14:51:34
Biffo316 my friend, you are missing my point because imo warburton will go on to become a rangers legend, at what point in my post did I actually say he'd achieved anything yet? I'll answer it for you, I didn't!

He's not achieved anything yet but I firmly believe he will, I take it with your negativity toward warburton that you don't think he will? That's fine but that's your opinion which of course your entitled to!

Again this is no slight on Souness or Smith but with the dough they had to spend and how poor celtic were at the time it would have been relatively easy for them as truth be told celtic were in a mess on and off the park so we really do need to look at ALL aspects and put them into perspective for what they're worth mate.

04 Dec 2015 17:41:32
How am I being negative towards him? I'm just saying he hasn't achieved anything yet and your getting carried away with him slightly. I hope your right and does become one of the best signings in the history of the club but please don't get too excited yet.

08 Dec 2015 13:12:26
"at what point in my post did I actually say he'd achieved anything yet? "

"mark warburton is undoubtedly imo one of the best signings in the history of our great football club"

"I think warburton is a better manager/coach than souness"

"The 'magic hat' will go on to become a magnificent rangers manager"

03 Dec 2015 17:45:34
Warbs15th is totally spot on, every cellik fanny err fan, is totally bricking it as bonnie dyler ( it's a heartache) is not up to it at all. Our manager has class oooozing out of every pore, he is purring along like a finely tuned merc while bonnie is chuntering along in a clapped out lada. Ohh aye, let's unsettle the hat they hope, but the hat is not for shifting, to much class and integrity, that's why!

Onwards and upwards to the mighty.

03 Dec 2015 18:36:34
Just want to check it is second tier football your club is playing?

03 Dec 2015 21:03:50
Not for long msm. it's time for all of the obsessed to look over their shoulder as the Teddy Bears will be back with a bang. One thing's for sure, your lot will have a damn site more to worry about next season than whether, or not, Ronnie and the so-called Bhoys will get horsed in the Champions League prelim rounds.

03 Dec 2015 18:27:56
Just watched some clips of that big Latvian forward. Certainly knows where the goal is and really looks the part. Even has an aerial presence and score with the head with ease. Might be the answer to crosses/corners etc.

03 Dec 2015 18:50:17
I think we've a long way to go before celtic will be worried about us. MW also still has a lot to prove, he failed his only test so far against prem opposition. Also I wouldn't be surprised if Dave King was feeding these stories to the media to distract us from asking about the failure of Res 10 and 11 and whether or not the £5m loan has been repaid yet.

03 Dec 2015 20:52:31
Celtic aren't bricking it stuzo, they are years ahead of us in terms of quality of player. But warns is doing the right think by building the squad slowly and developing a style of play. Hopefully he doesn't go to fulhum!

03 Dec 2015 23:31:12
He's won nothing in Football so far. Looks likely The PTC could at last be won. A top 6 place would be an achievement if promoted. St Johnstone knew your game plan and easily won the game. The lower placed clubs D. united, Motherwell Killy, Patrick will be strong opposition. No where near a Challenge against The Champions, Aberdeen or Hearts.

04 Dec 2015 00:21:17
Attaboy Steffantos. Just you keep thinking those thoughts. Is this the Aberdeen that got humped 5-1 at home by St Johnstone? And who can't buy a win for love nor money? Are these the champions that got shafted home and away by a mid table Norwegian team?
Do you think that side is that far ahead of Rangers at the moment? With that defence? Really?

04 Dec 2015 00:34:35
As much as it pains me I have to agree with steffantos. He has won nothing and hasn't achieved anything yet. Let's try and win the championship before we even think about challenging Celtic. Some gers fans are getting carried away with Warburton.

04 Dec 2015 07:50:53
Biffo
I agree with what you are saying but can't for the life of me see a huge gulf between us. Certainly not the gulf there should be given the circumstances of the last 3 years. They are ahead of us, no question, but we will strengthen in January and in the summer. With Delia in charge it gives us a great chance to close that gap. Imo.

04 Dec 2015 11:00:38
Seeker - I really think you need to calm down. We are playing in the championship and should be beating everybody we play, Hibs included. We are not in any position to compare ourselves to celtic yet. Our one and only game under MW against prem opposition ended up in a comprehensive defeat. Even our chairman has now said our realistic target now is Europa league qualification. This suggests to me that little to no investment will be made in the squad. Also, DK said this before Res 10 was defeated. Unfortunately until we are operating on a sustainable financial footing we will be lagging behind celtic, bear in mind that they have the finances to heavily invest in their squad if there is any possibility of a challenge for the league title.

04 Dec 2015 10:50:38
Omg, Celtic fans are starting to bite, the truth about rangers just now is yeah we have a way to go before we could challenge for the spl but guess what, Celtic should be miles in front of us, both on and off the park, but they have declined massively in the last 2 and a half yrs, I'm a realist.

I don't want a quick fix, I want to build just like mw is doing, if we can give a good account of ourselves next year and get into Europe I will be delighted, which will then allow us to sign even better players, I really think in 3 yrs we could have an outstanding young squad, even though Celtic fans won't admit it but without us being there has impacted on them more than they ever realised it would, be careful what you wish for lol.

04 Dec 2015 13:25:51
tp9 - you're a realist? Really? Strange given that what you've written is based on fantasy. If you truly are a realist can you explain who will fund us through the rest of the season and how?

06 Dec 2015 18:30:02
ABHABH : No chance of us not seeing the season out.

06 Dec 2015 23:18:38
Scotjo. That's good news. How can you be so sure? Who will fund us?

03 Dec 2015 14:38:59
I don't want to seem paranoid (too much of this in Scottish football) but the BBC really needs to be questioned about coverage of supposed Fulham interest in Mark Warburton.
BBC news today has a thin report headlined Warburton 'Committed' to Rangers - the use of quotation marks perhaps suggesting a part-true weasel statement.
Mark Warburton today said Rangers had not received an approach and he had not been offered improved terms and budget to stay.
News of the approach and the inducements to stay was broken 'Live' on yesterday evening's BBC Sportsound
Poor journalism or mischief making?

03 Dec 2015 14:58:03
Mischief.

03 Dec 2015 15:00:04
Well said. He's made it as clear as he can that he has no interest in leaving and I believe his heart is set at Ibrox. That said, and I read today on the subject of incentive, I believe the board must step in now and up his salary package and do all they can to fend off interest from down south.

03 Dec 2015 15:14:58
It's a story folk are interested in I don't think they are doing anything wrong it's there job to report i don't think we need to worry mate!

03 Dec 2015 20:42:36
The bbc's journalists are biased beyond belief, surely the independence referendum proved how biased they are!

03 Dec 2015 14:09:52
All this talk about warburton leaving in my opinion is rubbish I have no doubt he will stay. but if for any reason he does want too go then he's not the man for us anyway and we move on.

03 Dec 2015 09:16:06
Supposedly young boy, josh windass is leaving accrinton stanley in january. i don't think a young boy that scored 9 goals in league 2 is our saviour. ohh how the mighty have fallen if that's the calibre of player we looking at. get billy mackay signed before him.

03 Dec 2015 10:45:01
if warburton wants the kid then I think the fans will back him, I can't complain about any of his signings so far. for all we know Windass could come up here and score for fun. he is only 20/21 after all.

03 Dec 2015 10:55:31
Hes a midfielder who is 21 years old. England league 2 is a bloody higher level than Scottish championship.

03 Dec 2015 13:52:54
Arsenal r looking at the boy so I think our chances r slim he's 1 a lot of English sides r looking at! would be nice to get him but I seriously doubt it!

03 Dec 2015 13:59:33
Arsenal have interest in him RYAN, however his agent was at ibrox on Tuesday. to me it suggests he'll be coming to us.

03 Dec 2015 14:50:55
So because his agent was at the game he's defo coming is he? is it possible his agent been to several clubs to see what is best for his client? if he does come great! nice to see your caps lock is working!

03 Dec 2015 22:30:58
And your exclamation marks too Ryan! ;-)

03 Dec 2015 09:03:14
Totally understand pushing forward for youth coming into the team, but let it be in moderation, no need to change a working team.

Murdoch, for me, was too small in the holding position and would be run over by bigger players in midfield. Best CDMs in the world are all over 6ft so in that mould please. Hardie given time, could be something special given his youth performance, height and speed. Get a bit more beef on him and he's ideal but that will come with age, experience and a hard pre season.

Onwards and upwards, everything is shaping up to be good. Scared to get optimistic as a Rangers fan but i believe the worst is starting to be behind us.

03 Dec 2015 11:07:12
Xavi, Inesta, Scholes, Cazorla were all giants.

03 Dec 2015 11:59:10
Whilst I disagree with the OP. Some of the best CDM's are smaller in stature (for example (Claude Makelele was 5'7) . Naming the likes of Iniesta, Cazorla and Scholes is puzzling as none of them are CDM's?

03 Dec 2015 12:23:13
Verrati, Vidal, Nainggolan, Mendy.

03 Dec 2015 08:56:51
Just a wee thought to through out there. How about a winger that can go past someone, because Barry McKay can't. What does MW see in him?

03 Dec 2015 10:32:12
What does he see in him? He's a touch of class in behind the striker have u actually watched rangers recently? The boys heading for the top he's got pace skill and technical abilities are improving every game he looks more of a threat.

03 Dec 2015 11:49:06
Im a fan of McKay I think he is something positive that's came from Murray Park and I think he's landed on his feet because Warburton will give him the platform to express himself. Still young remember he can only get better I was in the Copland front on Tuesday and he went past two men to play a big part in the first goal.

03 Dec 2015 13:18:29
It is a matter of opinion joerfc. Yes I am at every home game for a good number of seasons now! Maybe get your joe90 glass on?

03 Dec 2015 13:55:18
Kdog if your at every home game? u would have saw him skin 2 players to set up a goal! the boy playing out his skin I just wish he would shoot more seems to pass all the time rather than have a go at goal.

03 Dec 2015 14:51:09
I've been on a few times defending Barrie McKay. I really don't see where the doubters are coming from. The number of assists alone totally vindicates the boy's inclusion in the team. He is a class act with pace, skill, the ability to lift his head and make a killer pass. Everybody is entitled to their opinion of course, but obviously MW rates him very highly and that is good enough for me.

03 Dec 2015 09:03:21
todays question, will the sfa and liewell stop taking sponsorship from ladbrokes because they are guilty of tax avoidance for £54 million?
