Im not convinced the portugues guy is going to be the new manager! don't think gary monk or gary rowett either - I think we might end up sticking with murty and then evaluating at end of season.

03 Mar 2017 22:10:37
No one's convinced mate.

But that's what's so intriguing don't you think?

Really can't be underwhelmed, like most would be if we appointed the likes of Tommy Wright, Alex McLeish.

Can't get too excited, like most would be with Frank De Boer, Gary Monk.

It's the perfect middle. His appointment paired with Ross Wilson as DOF should be interesting.

Personally on a scale of 1-10 in terms of excitement and anticipation, I'm on about an 8.

He's managed in a few different countries, that would give him a decent knowledge of players who most would say are more in our price brackets, as opposed to the previous regimes knowledge of England's 2nd and 3rd tier.

Plus, instead of loan deals from Wenger and Pochettino, we'll get deals from Jose and Man Utd.

It's a win, win in all departments as far as I'm concerned.

03 Mar 2017 22:17:28
Certainly don't think Monk will leave Leeds as they are currently in the top six in the Championship and hopefully will be involved in the playoffs.
If the board are unable to appoint a manager on a permanent basis meantime then it might be better evaluating at the end of the season.
Mcleish on an interim basis and Murty as No2 might be the short term answer.

04 Mar 2017 01:06:47
Can't believe we're getting excited about a fella we were targeting for a second in command a season or so ago hope Iam wrong but this is a potential disaster what's wrong with a steadying hand like big eck for a season or two?

04 Mar 2017 08:19:37
There is a reason big Eck has not had a job in years. He isn't very good, simple as that. I don't understand the fixation with him coming in, it's a step backwards in my opinion.

04 Mar 2017 12:33:33
It's between pedro or mcleish I think

04 Mar 2017 12:08:09
Fellow bears, let's get right behind pedro caixinha, as it very much looks a shoe in, that the portuguese manager is going to be our new head coach! If it is caixinha, then i welcome him into the glasgow rangers family!

04 Mar 2017 13:52:31
Not true, Leven Lad. Harry Redknapp is out of work. he's a great manager!

03 Mar 2017 19:19:56
Have you seen some of the players who will play Fernando Ricksen's tribute game on the 25th?

Amongst the star names already signed up to play are Teddy Sheringham, Darren Anderton, Paul Scholes, Lee Hendrie, Frank Sinclair, Steve Lomas, Dave Beasant, Kerry Dixon, Trevor Sinclair, Paul Ince, Phil Babb, Don Hutchinson, Michael Mols, Marco Negri, Jorg Albertz, Alex Rae, Colin Hendry, Marvin Andrews, Scott Nisbet, Gordon Durie, Charlie Miller, Mark Walters, Jonathan Johansson, Ronald Watteraus, Pieter Huistra, Peter Lovenkrands and Arthur Numan.

I would love to have some of these guys in our starting 11!

03 Mar 2017 19:51:46
Wonder if scholes is looking for a run out before hand, a stint as a trialist against the manky mob lol what a player he was! Excellent line up of great pros fantastic to see their support for Fernando

04 Mar 2017 12:22:26
Right now I would take big Marvin

04 Mar 2017 12:38:07
Are ex-Selic players not allowed? Not one there among the names though probably just a coincidence.

04 Mar 2017 13:56:39
Lol raftbob think that's the first time Scott nisbet has been called a star name, hope the game raises plenty of cash 👍

04 Mar 2017 23:44:36
Govanite, it's Rangers Legends v England Legends, so no mhankies need apply.

03 Mar 2017 18:23:45
I'm a bit confused about this DOF thing I'm not having a moan at board just hoping someone can clear it up a lil bit
This is the 1st time we are doing this DOF thing so would it be wise to have a older experienced manager to spend a few years with the club to help us ease into it work out any bugs and such
And since we are getting a DOF do we need a manager or is it a experienced coach just as an example ferguson said he isn't experienced enough for the job which I agree with but if he's only going to be doing coaching and that wouldn't the DOF cover most the other sides of the club

03 Mar 2017 19:12:35
Yes their primary role would be taking training sessions and picking teams setting tactics etc but there is a little more to it than that, they still need man mangement skills the DOF is going to be more involved in transfer negotiations setting up pre season camps managing the scouting network

03 Mar 2017 19:39:34
no its not the first time we have used a DoF

03 Mar 2017 20:12:18
Ah sorry didn't know we had used one before

03 Mar 2017 20:42:38
Gordon Smith was our DoF for just over 6 months when McCoist was manager. Left soon after we went into administration.

03 Mar 2017 20:45:38
I think When we got MacLeish in 2002 i'm sure advacatt moved up to be are dof then

03 Mar 2017 23:04:49
That's good then so at least it's not a completely alien thing for the club to be going into that's all I was worried about really, looking. Forward to see what happens with it not expecting any miracles just hope we can stabilise abit keep us out of the news headlines for a couple of weeks

04 Mar 2017 11:37:08
Rangers have had a director of football before. Advocaat done it for a few months.

04 Mar 2017 12:00:52
Gordon smith and dick advocat were dofs

04 Mar 2017 12:04:09
I heard them say that on the the phone in but naw he didn't he went away to another club i'm sure did he not? I can't for the life of me remember advocat as DOF

03 Mar 2017 17:10:50
Can't believe Pedro would give up 1.5 million a year tax free to come to Glasgow Rangers for 250 grand a year! Certainly wouldn't be me!

04 Mar 2017 11:22:29
You'd choose money over rangers?

03 Mar 2017 16:46:35
I read the comments so I figure I would post some thoughts and a little game and only one rumour.

First thought. I feel that to pay nearly 500/ 600K to get this Portuguese Coach released fron his contract that only tells me he requires a hefty paycheck. Possibly more than previous 3 con merchants we had employed.

Second thought. I feel we are going with this guy because he will be able to secure maybe some cheap overseas talent that we could sell on and possibly play in the league. I think, Ronald and Franks transfer budget would be petty commanding each year something at the moment we can keep up due to no money and no control on merchandise sales.

Third thought. I think it would be good to give Murty the position of number 2. He has done a great job with youth and albeit he has been thrown to the lions den with the group of players he has at his disposal. But he knows the club and we should back him.

Fourth Thought. (Joey Barton) Just maybe Joey Barton called everyone out at the club and caught onto the antics of con merchants coaching . To be fair on Barton he is played at the highest level and been coached by great coaches and he is always included in every teamsheet unless he does something stupid. I feel given time this story will evolve more. Something clearly not right here, paid off to keep quiet.

Fifth thought. Game time! As many of you probably play football manager. If you were the manager and you had some limited funds who would you buy. One solid defender. One solid Midfielder One goal scorer. Keep it realistic. Name 3-4 players use you football manager scouts to see what you can get. As we have no scouts maybe we can lend them a hand.

The only rumour I have been told is that I have heard Gattusso and Ferguson. With DOF in charge.

03 Mar 2017 19:40:42
Haven't played FB manager for a while lol i'd try big berra for CB free in summer also like jamie walker not the hammer thrower we need but gets box to box and scores goals in our league! Natural goalscores are hard to come by but still, like what I've seen from moult at motherwell this season! They 3 along with another dozen :-D

04 Mar 2017 11:57:54
Point 4 is way off. You think after 4 or so weeks Barton sussed it all out and started to throw his weight around. No chance, he's a ned end of, I wish people would just accept he was in no position to open his mouth. Bartons highest level was a long time ago and he's only had a couple of games thus far in the EPL. He is no superstar.

04 Mar 2017 12:11:07
In the good ole days before FM, I was in my early 20s playing football in Slough and the boss was a Scot. He played 4-3-3 (no, it's not a recent invention) and he said, 'What I need in the middle is a good yin, a hard yin and a fast yin. The hard yin helps the defenders, the good yin makes the play and the fast yin joins in with the centre forward. The wingers need to be able to cross it and to join in the attacks, and I dinnae care if the centre spends maist o' the game pickin' fluff oot his arse as long as he scores a hat-trick. That's his job. Defenders mark men and win tackles and maybe hurt a few people but not deliberate, like. '
We won 31 games in a trot in a really tough league.

03 Mar 2017 15:24:50
Pedro has nothing to lose taking the Rangers job completely wrong appointment if he gets it . Has to be someone with a reputation to uphold.

03 Mar 2017 16:43:39
Of course he has something to lose. He would struggle to get any management offers from English clubs if he didn't do well with us.

04 Mar 2017 12:01:20
He has been plucked from obscurity so what reputation is he protecting?

04 Mar 2017 12:36:44
Cant believe you people that say its the wrong appointment

03 Mar 2017 14:08:40
Seemingly Caxinha's club have rubbished claims he's met with Rangers for the manager role. He was in Qatar yesterday to take charge of a game which in itself doesn't say much as he could have flown back to Qatar on Tuesday evening after being interviewed.

Also, media reporting Wilson has asked for more time to consider move to Rangers. If he's not jumping at the chance to come to us then I doubt his commitment if he does decide to come and would have him as a short term flight risk. From the beginning I preferred Mitchell of Tottenham as he was more responsible for Southampton's current setup than Wilson who is getting credit for someone else's work and imo has made poor signings for Southampton since joining them.

03 Mar 2017 15:07:56
Pedro was in London last week supposedly for talks with Rangers not a few days ago

03 Mar 2017 20:16:52
its beginning to look like our directors are backing the wrong horses here and are in danger making a huge mistake. Why can't they act like normal people for once and forget the DOF role for now and get big Eck in to steady the ship. and if he gets us 2nd or 3rd then give him the bloody job permanently!

03 Mar 2017 20:07:00
Wilson will be seeking assurances over what will be available to him. Not a lot I'd imagine.

04 Mar 2017 12:24:09
Poor signings? Like gabbiadini, van dijk, redmond, Romeu? Southampton r absolutely class!

04 Mar 2017 12:25:58
He was probably told a figure he could live with then thr next meeting that he was supposed to sign on the dotted line they let him know that's over the next few years and he has changed his mind.
Thats just my thinking

03 Mar 2017 13:35:10
Wilson and Pedro Caixinha could be good appointments need to give them time money and support.
My only concern would be the two appointments look like they are being made independent of one another, i would have thought a D of F would have wanted some input to the choice of head coach. This may be happening certainly hope so.

04 Mar 2017 08:52:08
That's the whole point, they are two independent roles they do not come as a pair, if the coach fails to deliver he is replaced not the management structure of the club, it makes perfect sense . We cannot keep changing the operational structure of the club every time the coach screws up. We have just lost coach assistant and head of recruitment because they were a team.

03 Mar 2017 10:33:51
I said I wouldn't post on here again . but I feel if the Portuguese fellow is appointed then in my opinion I think we would be gifting another title to septic next year, I just think it's going to be Paul le guen all over again, I hope I'm wrong but I just think it's the wrong appointment, septic must laughing at us and really see how bad the rangers board is, it's a wonder anyone wants to come with that current board in charge, anyway rant over and I really hope I'm wrong.

03 Mar 2017 12:46:43
If he gets the job, let him have a chance to prove himself. It may be that he is a failure, but at least allow him a chance. Who should the club appoint, in your opinion?

03 Mar 2017 13:00:26
Ultimately We know very little about him who so I can't really understand why people are automatically against his appointment. Personally reading up about him I think he could be good. He did his badges in Scotland, likes to develop and play young players, plays attacking football, keeps his backroom staff local to the club so he has people around him who know the club and traditions, supposed to be a great tactician and takes no nonsense from under preforming players. He looks pretty fiesty aswell so will be good entertainment. Just hope he can uncover a few gems and get the club bouncing again!

03 Mar 2017 15:03:26
@tommzz - after such a negative post time for you to retire again.

03 Mar 2017 14:44:34
Well I for one missed you. Please don't abandon us again I won't cope.

03 Mar 2017 15:08:55
Celtic have got the next 4 or 5 titles never mind next season!

I am open to Pedro. From what I have read he could be good for us. There is no guarantee that De Boer or anyone else would be anuy good either.

The boards position is crucial, the funds are essential and the DoF needs to be in place before any manager.

03 Mar 2017 15:15:30
Maybe we'll be laughing, what do they know anyway? Laughing is their permanent state anyway. We can't possibly ever get anything right according to them.

03 Mar 2017 10:21:50
Nicolas came out in the Daily Rag today saying if Caixinha is to become new manager he thinks the impatientness of the Rangers fans will not allow him the time needed to turn things around. I don't know if I speak for all Rangers fans but I certainly am not expecting to win the league next year. I realise there is a massive financial gulf between the teams right now. And my number 1 aim is to stop them winning 10 in a row. We have 3 seasons to do that. What I do expect of the new manager is to assemble a team capable of beating every other team in this league and giving them a good run for theIr money next year. If we can reduce the deficit from 30 odd points which is absolutely unacceptable to under 10 and maybe beat them at home twice next season then I'll be happy. So for Nicolas to shoot his dirty mouth off in that rag and belittle our fans for being delusional about the current state of play really riled me up and just wanted to know what the feeling was towards this from my fellow bears on here.

03 Mar 2017 14:56:57
Almost as bad as Sutton and his comments. Maybe they are getting scared. May I just add my thoughts on Tommy Gemmell's passing this week. I played against him as an amateur when he was about 40 years old in a Sunday morning football game. Scary! Great, attacking left back though.

03 Mar 2017 20:16:27
Gemmell was a tremendous player. The original wing back. Left back but right footed. The guy was a machine.

03 Mar 2017 08:33:25
Neither were top of my list, but the more I read and think about Wilson as DoF and Caixinha as Gaffer, the more optimistic I feel about the future. Hope we get these two in quickly now, and can build for next season well in advance. Let's give the new staff our full support, after all

03 Mar 2017 09:04:06
No matter who comes in we must give them our full support. It will take time to improve the team so let's have patience. Rome was not built in a day so let's back the boards judgement on whoever they select.

03 Mar 2017 14:06:39
I'll support whoever comes in but it seems over complicated for me. The guy has to get used to our culture, weather, grub etc. Tommy Wright proved himself the other night, got his subs, tactics spot on and nearly won the game. I think we're making a mistake if we don't try and get Wright in.

03 Mar 2017 14:09:34
put it this way we have been told there is money there for summer transfers.
but we are never told how much and to be honest i don't think it will be a lot

03 Mar 2017 08:09:58
"Vladimir Weiss warns Rangers flops: Pedro Caixinha won't stand for under-performers. make the same mistake twice and you'll face his wrath"

I find this encouraging given then amount of mistakes have been repeated over and over this season.

03 Mar 2017 14:10:26
hopefully the wee man will come back to rangers where his heart is

03 Mar 2017 07:07:15
Stewart Robertson stating there is funds available for players. Question is how much Stewart? Anyway we are getting closer to appointing DOF n Manager and we have no say in this so I'll need to support them and renew my season ticket. Ever the optimist. 🇬🇧.

03 Mar 2017 15:10:01
Why does the actual amount (which could be variable) matter so much to you? If the new boss thinks it's enough, then it's enough!

03 Mar 2017 00:53:51
I don't want that Portuguese guy anywhere near ibrox as manager we need someone who is a die hard in there and kicking players up the bottom and for
me it needs to be a manager who knows Scottish football and is a proven winner so all fingers point away from that Portuguese guy. if he comes it will be a big mistake he will use rangers as a stepping stone to England.

03 Mar 2017 01:38:04
There isn't a manger that meets that criteria in the game these days. The only three that meet the criteria are Sir Alex Ferguson, Souness and Walter Smith and none of them would be remotely interested in the job. Guys like Barry Ferguson have neither the experience or the coaching ability, DeBoer and Laudrup would be a similar style, (although I would have preferred either or, and Alex MacLeish would have been a disaster!

Scottish Football is a total joke, no manager worth considering would see Scotland as anything other than a stepping stone to England and the EPL. Do you really think that Rodgers, who is head and shoulders above any other manager in Scotland right now, is going to stay with Celtic until he retires!

03 Mar 2017 07:38:23
You got to give the guy a chance if he's using us as a stepping stone he would have to be a success with us first before before anyone would want him in England.

03 Mar 2017 11:27:32
There is better candidates than pedro caixinha. I think it's an absolute disgrace he's even being considered. He's even less qualified than le guen was. All this nonsense he's well thought of in europe! Ya right that's why his last 2 jobs have been outside Europe. He has no experience of European are most important British football. Hope he lasts longer than the le guen did

03 Mar 2017 12:03:22
Southsideger, give the guy a chance for god's sake! There's every chance his assistant will be scottish with a rangers background, but that's not the be all and end all! It has to be the correct fit as our new head coach, that's all that matters as far as i'm concerned! Pedro caixinha wasn't my original 1st choice either mate, but I'm sure as hell going to give him my 100% backing!

03 Mar 2017 12:12:38
You've obviously not watched any of this guy on you tube then. Looks a hardy guy.

03 Mar 2017 13:48:20
When any manager comes in fans are excited. No matter who it is it will take a lot of time. Players need to be replaced and some are on contracts for the next 2 or 3 years so they need to be improved so don't expect a massive change any time soon. For me this could be another Ronnie Dalia at Celtic. Rangers expectations may just be too much for him. Quatar to Glasgow. Need to win every week. If Rangers are to rebuild brining youth into the team Rangers will go backwards before moving forward again

03 Mar 2017 13:53:03
Rodgers head and shoulders above all other managers in Scottish football? Nothing to do with a budget head and shoulders above the rest of Scottish football?

03 Mar 2017 14:13:16
how do you know it will be a mistake? because of what le guen did?
im sorry but if he is the guy coming in we need to back him not slate the guy before he even signs for us
