On the Joey Ranger debate. I would like to weigh in with my opinion. Against Kilmarnock the other day he was the only one to make a move into the box in anticipation when I think Windass struck it, he finished very well. If he can make those types of runs and anticipations AND we can keep creating then I feel he will do well.

03 Nov 2016 23:20:11
Three goals in five starts think he has. And fans were writing the guy off.

Should be the first name on the team sheet every game, followed by Windass, Tavernier, Holt and Miller.

Some players are really on good form, hope it continues.

04 Nov 2016 08:09:27
he's a good striker to have leading the line, he's not an out and out goalscorer as much as he is a battler but sometimes you just need players to go out there and do a job.

04 Nov 2016 10:46:08
If we are going to challenge Celtic though we need an out and out striker. Currently they have a far better striker than Garner that can't get into their starting 11.

04 Nov 2016 13:07:03
Yeah, Ciftci! 😂.

04 Nov 2016 17:36:52
Griffith way better! Come of it! He made a rubbish SPL look slightly worse last year but now the big boys are back Celtic have had to upgrade!

04 Nov 2016 19:10:57
I would take griffiths over dembele, less diving and doesn't act like a wimp.

04 Nov 2016 19:43:04
haha less diving. on a Garner thread oh the irony.

05 Nov 2016 08:45:33
dembele dived against hearts when walker got a 2 match ban yet he didn't. dived against us, dived against a German team. dived nearly every single game. a guy with as much ability as him should n0t be behaving like tom Daley.

I see its manchester city, that are now favourites to sign our 15 year old midfielder billy gilmour. I only hope that warburton can persuade the young guy, his agent and of course his parents, that its better for him to stay at rangers for the next few years at least as a first team outing isn't far off and will only help young billy fullfill his undoubted potential quicker. There's no substitute for first team football and rangers will give him that chance much quicker than the glut of top english clubs, chasing his signature. Having said that it must turn any young, upcoming, aspiring footballer's head, that the cream of england's top flight, are fighting to sign you, at the tender age of 15.He really must be some talent to have manchester city, manchester utd, arsenal, chelsea, liverpool, everton and Southampton all chasing your signature. He's also signed up with adidas which is quite unusual for someone as young as billy. Under warbs youth is undoubtedly the way we'll be going in the future, that's why a good manager like warbs, who's got a terrific record at working with and developing young players, was brought into rangers in the first place. Gone are the big spending days for us and murray park, under our proper management team and youth coaches has to now be producing our own young players. There's nothing better in watching young players being brought through our system, as long as they're good enough, its very satisfying to watch their development as a glasgow rangers supporter. Said all along imo we've got the correct manager in mark warburton in charge! We're in safe hands there if we all just show a little patience. When warbs does eventually move on from us our full club will be built all the way through and left in terrific health for the next manager who follows warbs!

I agree with all that you say mate. It's very different times at ibrox and youth development is only way forward. Seeing a home grown player pull on the jersey and entertain is what we all want. Hope some fans get off McKay's back as he is just a young lad and can't be a 8/ 10 every week and has to be brought in and taken out the team as required. Give the youngster a break! It's taken most of our experienced players until recently to adapt to prem league so how can they expect McKay to hit the ground running when all he has known is lesser levels. Be patient guys .

04 Nov 2016 12:58:21
Only trouble is where is the evidence that Rangers are giving youth a chance? McCoist certainly didn't. And where have Hardie, Burt, Murdoch and Walsh disappeared to this season? I agree with sentiments but doubt that it will in reality happen.

04 Nov 2016 15:10:06
Murdoch was released with Hardie and Walsh in and out of an awful St Mirren side.

04 Nov 2016 16:40:36
I don't believe Rangers will give him the chance, we have been poor at promoting from within for some time now. The wasted years under MacCoist/ puppet masters were the chance to bring players through. Are there any young guys even getting onto the bench these days?

04 Nov 2016 16:54:41
Scotty, mckay has been on the first team for four years (apart from a spell at RR), he is not a kid.
He is the same inconsistent player he was 4 years ago, and in my opinion has reached his level last year.
If after 4 years you still do not have the nous to go past a full back and put a cross in, then it's not going to change much.

04 Nov 2016 18:45:55
The youth players at Rangers have been mediocre at best in recent years. From what I can see, Warburton is looking to significantly Improve the quality of both youth players and youth coaching. Gilmour is young enough to benefit from the Warburton philosophy. I see little hope for him at Manchester City or any other Club that uses overseas funds to buy whoever they want. Better that he stays and develops where he is.

04 Nov 2016 19:10:30
we lost our best youth when we went down.

05 Nov 2016 00:50:40
Cee who did we lose when we went down that has achieved anything remotely worth commenting on?
Not having a go but Rangers haven't produced many in last 20 years that have gone on to really big things away from the club. Celtic haven't either.
It's about time we produced some players who go on to play at top level and internationally. Of the top of my head only one I can think of is Alan Hutton.

03 Nov 2016 15:06:26
we have been told warburton has money to spend in jan he may have money but i bet we do not spend a penny as this money will be used for pre contract deals for some players
but to compete with celtic king is going have to to invest properly to bring quality in free transfers will not cut it time will tell.

03 Nov 2016 16:12:14
Warburton is already speaking about loans in January which suggests there will be no money to spend despite what king told us.

03 Nov 2016 16:40:11
The reason we are going for a loaned player instead of buying one is purely to replace the void not having nico will create, not to mention, January is a horrid time to buy players. it's like buying a winter jacket, in the summer it'll be cheap, once it hits winter it's expensive, sort of the same for players. Summer is far cheaper than in the winter.

03 Nov 2016 16:55:00
Conversely, if you buy a pair of shorts in Winter, it will be a great investment when the annual Summer day arrives.

03 Nov 2016 17:25:32
FFS! It's not a January Sale we are talking about here!

03 Nov 2016 17:39:54
What tf is happening here - sanitas grandwean, the xfactor, shopping for jackets and shorts. Get a grip ed.! By the way isn't Emmerdale exciting just now :)

03 Nov 2016 17:49:14
very good afcw191.

03 Nov 2016 19:51:02
The real question is whether we can finish second with what we have and bring in enough quality in the summer, (including signings of quality on pre contract agreements), so that we can win the league next year or whether we need to bolster our squad to secure second, (and in the process hope that Celtic has a monumental collapse)!

03 Nov 2016 20:14:15
He'll do what he did last January.

Billy King joined on loan, Harry Forrester was a permanent deal and so was Michael O'Halloran, we also missed out on trying to bring in Toumani Diagouraga, maybe even Harry Winks on loan. Also Crooks and Windass were bought on pre-contracts.

It'll be quality for this league though. Couple of loan signings Bielek and Willock from Arsenal. Maybe two permanents. He'll try and get pre-contracts from teams down south from League One or the Championship. Hepburn-Murphy and hopefully a Centre Half.

03 Nov 2016 13:46:02
Hey guys just a thought do you think we should try and get a 2 year loan deal for. Luis Henrique (Botafogo, 17) a young ST seems like a wee gem. might be what we need. I know Arsenal are snooping about to buy him so maybe a loan deal could be a possibility an option for us?

Thoughts?

04 Nov 2016 12:14:12
Botafogo if I'm correct are a Brazilian mob? I'm sure due to work permit rules we couldn't touch him I. E Arsenal loaning Carlos Vela out for about 5 seasons.

03 Nov 2016 12:02:57
Morning all,

Like to hear some feedback on this one.

I for one think the Joey Barton saga has rumbled on for too long - but I don't blame the club officials, what they have decided is correct because no player is bigger than Glasgow Rangers.

Joey Barton came up to Glasgow with mindset it was all about him - his public activities (TalkSport interview) straight after etc aren't in the best interest of Rangers.

He went out of his way to publicly state he wasn't in the wrong and made Warburton out to be wrong.
So why should he welcome him back with open arms?

Main issue is that Barton thought he was bigger than the club and the manager.
Doesn't work at Glasgow Rangers.

Media can call it a circus all they want, but fact of the matter is, we're better off without him and Warburton has recognised that.

Making Barton train with the youth teams?
Good enough for him.

Cheers
JorgeTheHammer.

03 Nov 2016 12:30:37
On the Joey Barton saga I remember in the 60s gers turning a blind eye to some things players would do slim Jim being the biggest culprit. Barton's problem is he ain't no jim Baxter.

03 Nov 2016 12:49:30
imo he should be aloud to train with the first team and if he trains well give him another crack. we ate paying him so play him.

03 Nov 2016 15:01:20
He is being given the chance to train in order to stay, or get in his case, fit. Agreement in place, and he will be gone in January. He won't play for us again, thankfully.

03 Nov 2016 10:16:52
Know this will cause a stramash -how about Commons or Scott Allan to replace Nico while he is getting fit. Both have the ability to unlock a defence etc
Thoughts?

03 Nov 2016 10:25:26
Commons, unfit, not played a game in donkeys, not what we need. Scott Allan, well again unfit, told to go and train with youth at Rotherham, i'll pass on that.

03 Nov 2016 10:39:43
Scott Allan could offer to play for us for nothing and I would still refuse. Karma is a great thing.

03 Nov 2016 11:00:28
if I could pick 3 signings for january/ summer :

blair Spittal
jason cummings
and a centre back.

03 Nov 2016 11:06:40
Do you think Celtic would sell them or loan them to us?

03 Nov 2016 11:42:26
that idea is only a ballhair from insanity.

03 Nov 2016 12:09:34
Both had a chance to come to us earlier and neither did so both can gtf and rot away.

03 Nov 2016 12:41:05
How about Jermaine Defoe of Sunderland. Struggling team and doesn't start every game but could be available at a reasonable price? I'd also recall young Hardie and start giving Liam Burt a run.

03 Nov 2016 13:47:52
Berbatov is free and would rip SPL apart, however, we don't shop in those windows anymore. Expect maybe 2 young loan players from EPL. We won't be spending cash in January.
