Use our rumours form to send us rangers transfer rumours.

A (semi, lol) quick question for any of the Ed's. Clearly there are plenty of other, more important, Rangers issues to be solved before next season (share issue, dual contracts, etc, etc) but looking to the future I was wondering about our ability to sign free transfers on a pre-contract prior to the 1st Sept next year. Obviously most free transfers will be trying to sort out their futures as quickly as possible come January and we may miss out on potential targets. Therefore, as it is technically a registration ban and not a transfer ban per se, would we be able to sign them up on some form of pre contract this January, as well as throughout the summer, for example, (contracts which would start on the 1st of September - the date they would officially sign for the club as FREE AGENTS - which ARE allowed once the ban finishes - caps not for your benefit Ed's, lol) which would tie the out of contract players (who will finish their seasons with their current clubs anyway before being 'freed') to our club for the following season. Obviously the same cannot happen regards contracted players as they would not meet the registration criteria so I am not saying we can buy anyone from another club until the following January if the one day loophole is closed to us as expected this year?

Clearly they would not be registered with the SFA or able to play until 1st of Sept anyway so they would remain ineligible for the first few weeks but they then could take part in pre-season training (unsure about playing in pre season games right enough - trialists? Probably not allowed.), get used to their new team mates and surroundings for the season ahead etc, and then be registered accordingly domestically on the 1st of Sept as that would be the first date of their contract and the day they are no longer classed as free agents.

Brian

p.s. I am expecting those that don't take the time to read or understand posts properly to give it the usual "how many times, you can't sign anyone" line etc without thinking it through first but I am not talking about anything other than free transfers here and their contracts not beginning until the 1st of Sept. The players would have to be willing to do the pre-season with us off their own back in that regard as they cannot be signed or paid prior to the 1st but then they would have to train somewhere to keep fit anyway so I wouldn't see that as being a huge problem. The question I suppose I am asking is whether we can officially use pre-contracts or not, whilst still abiding by the rules of the ban, to do it from this January. {The Ed039's Note - Yes, Rangers can sign a player now if they wanted, they just wouldnt be able to register them until the 3rd September next year after the transfer window closes (I know how silly that sounds but it is true), so to answer your question, yes pre contract agreements are allowed, and they would be able to train etc, just not participate in games, although they may be able to play as trialists at the start of next season under SFL trialists rules)

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Cheers Ed0039! Wasn't sure if we would just have had to take what was left like this year (that hasn't worked out too well for us so far) or whether we could actually plan ahead from January and have players in place for pre-season instead of having to catch up.

Brian

Agree4 Disagree2

Cheers fellas . Was wondering that myself.

Agree3 Disagree3

In order to sign any player you must lodge a copy of the contract and register the player with the appropriate FA. An unregistered player is considered a free agent, just look at McGregor etc for an example of this. You guys really do embarrass yourselves every time you are allowed on the family PC. If a player is not registered at any FA then they are not registered as a professional player for ANY club so are free to sign for another club, like Broadfoot. See where the conversation is going here..... no registration (Rangers liquidated), no contract (McGregor), sign for anyone else (Broadfoot)........ it's not that difficult to understand. Don't worry, we have 125 years experience of running a club, any help you lot need don't be shy to ask. Look at the other teams we have helped out over 125 years, one more won't make any difference and there is a vacancy since Rangers died.

Agree5 Disagree33

**** no3 embarrassing himself on the family PC. Thank you so much for proving my point about not taking the time to read or understand my post before letting your belly rumble. I understand what unregistered and free agent means but thanks for the explanation anyway. A player entering the last six months of his contract is, at that point, not a free agent and is still registered to his club and his particular FA (unless in your 125 year experience you can tell me otherwise). We would be offering a contracted and registered player a deal in January in this scenario and not waiting until September when he clearly would be an unregistered free agent. We are currently under a transfer/registration embargo and are only allowed to sign/register players 17 years of age or younger at present. As of the 3rd Sept (thanks for the correction Ed) next year we will still even then only be able to sign unregistered free agents to tide us over until the January window when we can buy (if we have the cash or inclination at that point) players once again. My question, if you had read it, related to signing currently registered players (irrelevant of age - although to be fair I didn't state that in the OP) on a pre-contract agreement as of January 2013, allowing them to get a full pre-season with us (possibly also having them play as trialists in a few pre-season games and/or league games as Ed suggested) once they had finished at their existing club and THEN registering them, within the confines of the ban we are working under, on the 3rd of September in order to avoid the scenario where we would only be left with a selection of the Kevin Kyle's (no offence big fella) of this world to choose from as the one's that were any good (at least in terms of Scottish football) and willing to come to us would have been snapped up. Also we would avoid bringing players into the club after the season had started, having to get them fit and allowing them no time to adjust to their new surroundings before getting thrown into the action (like what happened this year) in this scenario.

Just to make it even clearer for you and explain why I felt the question worthy of asking in the first place. If we were to buy a player just now who was currently registered and under contract (as these players will still be in January - granted the difference being their contract and registration will run out at the end of the summer) we would not be allowed to officially register them with the SFA until January 1st 2014. See where I am going here? It's not really that difficult to understand as you say.

Brian

p.s. I actually only asked as I was wondering whether we (Rangers fans - non Rangers fans obviously will have) would have anything transfer/football wise to talk about come January or whether we would have to wait and see who was still available come September. There was no need for that type of reply mate.

Agree9 Disagree3

You in the wars again Brian? Lol.

All the best mate

Gaz

Agree1 Disagree1

Another question i have is - who is going to pick the next players that we sign? because up until now our scouting system has been disappointing to put it mildly

JG

Agree4 Disagree1

No 6. Why has it been disappointing. We are top of our league.

Agree1 Disagree2

Lol, appears so Gaz. Honestly, I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with me, they are perfectly entitled to believe what they want to and I am well aware I can be in the wrong on occasion (I am man enough to say so right enough). However, when my intelligence is openly called into question by someone who can't even think of a pseudonym or get his facts straight (Broadfoot tuped over, received a wage, played in our games and was therefore not an unregistered player - he was told there would be no fee if he could fix himself up with another club, which he did) and either didn't read or understand my post properly in the first instance then it does tend to get my back up a bit, lol.

JG - that is the real question and concern for me too. I coach an under eights team and there are Celtic scouts (Paul Donnelly in particular - top lad by the way) at our games every single week without fail. I have two young lads (one six and one seven) who have absolutely amazing potential (particularly the older one) for their age and both now train with Celtic on a Wednesday night (as do all of the best players we come up against). If they progress as I hope they will then Celtic will have first shout on them because they have bothered to put the ground work in, got them training with them early and formed relationships with the parents and their boys clubs. In the four years I have been involved with the teams so far I have never seen or even heard of a Rangers representative attending ANY of our games (there are over forty teams play there on a Saturday morning over the space of four hours - surely worth a look at least). That maybe partly explains why the Celtic youth teams are, in the main, way better than ours, and it is seriously disappointing.

Brian

Agree3 Disagree1

@7 - hope you are at the ''banter'' with a comment like that. ok give us your assessment on our summer signings then

JG

Agree2 Disagree0

Players would be reluctant to do preseason or trialist as they wouldnt be insured and any injury could see them out of football for a while with all the problems that that entails

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry JG, I didn't directly answer the question you asked. In relation to your point I meant to add that if we are getting it so wrong, in my opinion, at youth level how can we expect it to be any better at senior level (they must watch DVD's, online clips, etc instead of taking the time go to see them two or three times it feels like to me). Given the signings we have made since Ally took over (Aluko, Bocanegra when he was interested, Templeton and possibly Shiels when on his game, aside) then there is either something very wrong somewhere in the ethos of the club when it comes to scouting players or Ally just can't spot a player. I take it you fear the latter (I hate to admit it but I do to), hence the question?

My other worry is that we eventually do get two or three bodies in and not one of them will actually be for the areas we can all see desperately needs strengthened - the entire right hand side plus another centre back.

Contact the Gers Brian and offer your services. We need all the help we can get.

Agree0 Disagree0

@12 LOL. Cheers mate, tenner's in the post! If only I could (dream job for most fans I would imagine would be to work for the clubs they support) but the only footballing qualifications I have are my early touches badges (costs a fortune to get them all BTW if you follow it through) and have not had any connection to/dealings with a professional team since being let go as a youth too many decades ago to mention. Think I would get short thrift pretty quick somehow, lol.

@10 Fair point but Aluko, for example, did exactly that in order to win his contract. Depends how much genuine interest they have in joining us.

Didn't catch the SPL game today on the box, but got told by a mate in the pub that it was 0 v 2 Celtic with a minute to go, then 2 v 2 each at full time. My qyestion is how did it happen?
thought I would ask on this page as there are more tims going thro their obsession period and therefore on this page, maybe didn't even know the score, oops. But if you could point out what happened, cheers.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

Celtic could have won 6-0 but want it to appear like an exciting competitive league.
Smoke and mirrors.

Agree4 Disagree6

@1 so what happend?

Agree1 Disagree1

Am guessing but i think united scored two goals maybe ?? you know the round thing they kick into that big net ?? its called a goal and united did it "two times" if you need an explanation about throw ins and stuff or just want to know the basics of how to play just ask

Agree12 Disagree1

@3 Basics of play maybe Ally should ask you.
Tam

Agree7 Disagree2

@3) you're very wrong.
United didn't do it two times.
Effe Abrose accidentally put the ball in the net in extra time.

Agree3 Disagree0

@5 fair doos mate ... even i except that one with a smile

Agree0 Disagree0

When cfc scored it was against the run of play utd were better team at that point

Agree1 Disagree0

@ 7 am sure united where the better team at points in the match but i find it hard to believe they where the better team at the point when the ball " flew right into their net "

only in scotland can the situation be allowed to arise whereby a team in the lowest division can hamme the team who are second place in the division above them 7 nil. we are the laughing stock of the footballing world. lets hope they have common sense and bin levein. but i doubt it

Believable16 Unbelievable19

Do you think that we should have simply been allowed to automatically enter the spl, as a new club with no right to be there, jus because who we are? Anyone else, just like us, has to apply.

Agree25 Disagree5

The situation has arisen because of major financial mismanagement by the 2 previous owners of the original rangers fc, if liquidation could have been avoided rangers would still be in the top division, not re-launched and made to start in the irn bru 3rd

Agree12 Disagree3

Well you where hammered 3 nil by a poor spl team ... and whats that got to do with levein ??

Agree10 Disagree2

We certainly do not have any right to get automatic entry. We need to start from the bottom and build a squad which will be fit to win every league ahead. Too many people on here moan about aly

He had a couple of weeks to gather players, having lost 20 if the previous squad, and having droppes to the third division most of the players he would of wanted would not be interested. He had 1 transfer window to cover 3 windows worth of business which would be difficult

Agree3 Disagree5

Oh well, a bit of interesting news for us bears, apparently the SFL chairman, David Longmuir is a very happy bunny with the TV coverage of the SFL. The average viewing figures for Rangers games are outstripping the SPL viewing figures big time according to SKY/ESPN. Broadcasters are more than pleased according to David Longmuir. For exact reaction see Source - Sunday Post.

Agree8 Disagree10

In reply to no. 3. I was at the game and they were never hammered!

Agree4 Disagree9

@ 5 do you realise the spl bought the sfl rights for 1 million ?? so the spl are the ones who gets all the cash ?? the spl will be rubbing their hands when it comes to the new deal

Agree6 Disagree1

OP decent post, the plebs just want blood and will latch onto anything that shows scottish fitba as it is, p!sh, or because we are Rangers.
The people in charge said years ago they would change scottish football and the same people still get their big salaries for telling us we are going somewhere, where? All this p!sh about being a small country then we boast about being the best at watching football, says it all! can watch it well but cannae play it to save ourselves.
Laughing stock, no one outside scotland cares.

Agree4 Disagree1

@7. Not denying that, just reporting what the paper said. What is does now is give the SFL more ammunition when dealing with the SPL over TV rights in future. Maybe SKY/ESPN will be more interested in dealing with the SFL separately.

Agree4 Disagree3

@7 So the SPL have paid the SFL the £2m they are contractually obliged to pay annually plus an additional £1m for the inclusion of Rangers games this year (ongoing I would imagine too)? The SFL appear to be the ones gaining out of that one. No? On top of having to pay out 1m more than normal the new sky deal was a significantly reduced overall sum compared to the previous one. Why exactly will the SPL be rubbing their hands? They will just be grateful the SFA managed to blackmail Green and his 'new' club into agreeing to sign it and the little that they did get by comparison to previous years should see them to the end of each season. What happens when Green turns round and says "no tah, don't take kindly to blackmail" next time (we as a club got nothing at all out of this deal remember - yet another thing Green wasn't enamoured by), after reiterating that he won't take us back into the SPL under his leadership and doesn't forgive and forget? What will be used to blackmail our 'new' club then? Interesting that you said it was due for renewal in three years is it not? Just happens to coincide with the time the SPL and Sky expect us to have secured a smooth return to the SPL and everything to be rosy on the contract front again. Now that will be an interesting meeting to be a fly on the wall at given who is getting the highest viewing figures (by far, incidentally). Cut your nose off and accept absolute peanuts from Sky when Green says he isn't interested unless....? Or let him dictate the terms he will sign under to the SPL and take the money offered?

Brian

p.s. partly tongue in cheek and I'm not necessarily condoning it but I thought the SFA/SPL played a dangerous game backing him into a corner and basically forcing him to sign the last contract. Wouldn't be surprised if he puts a right spanner in the works next time out of spite for the way he felt he was mistreated. He had just walked into the club and had nothing to do with how it was run before. To Green, it'll be personal.

Agree7 Disagree2

Yet charles now says he is staying till you get champions league football how is he going to do that without spl membership

As a poster has said below 7-0 in a cup game is a great result esp after the heads would have been down after wed fiasco, maybe all the ally must go men including some of the ed's.... will give him a break now eh? even if it was just alloa. things will come together...IN ALLY WE TRUST.

Believable28 Unbelievable28

Stick with it Ally and win the third division. All cup wins are just a nice bonus. WATP

Agree24 Disagree19

So 0-3 verse a SPL team was a "fiasco" on Wednesday and 7-0 verse a Second Division team on Saturday was a "great result".

There is nothing like a balanced assessment of your team and believe me that was NOTHING like one.

Pendulum's sway less frequently than you lot. And all it takes is a big score against what was a pitiful performance by Alloa to make everything fine again.

I've said it for years but this season proves it more than ever, one thing consumes Rangers fans - the last ninety minutes. To hell with the bigger picture when walloping a nobody gets another notch in the W column. And then it's followed by the ever becoming more hollow IN ALLY WE TRUST. When did you stop blabbing it about Whyte? I'm guessing a week after the Arsenal shares story came out?

Fiasco to great in less than 70 hours man you lot take reactionary to new levels.

Agree10 Disagree9

All 7 youngsters played well against Alloa, if they keep that up a 55th domestic title will be ours well before the the end of the season.

Agree11 Disagree16

Yip i am/was a ally must go man but may have seen a bit of ajax yesterday, bur alloa did not compete.....why is mckay not playing more that lad puts a smile on yir face....fantastic play from him....les
