First time poster folks and sit tight cause it's going to be a long one! Been reading the posts and comments on here for a while, some good, some indifferent, some. well. The problem with being a football supporter in general and especially supporting either of the old firm is (somewhat understandably to some degree) a lack of patience.

We all want instant success, we all want to see us winning every game, challenging at the top of the league, in the final of every cup, it's what the majority of rangers supporters are used to and have been brought up on. I should know I was 7 years old when Souness walked into ibrox and for the best part of 25 years after that we were, to put one way, simply the best!

However what happened 5 years ago changed everything! We almost didn't have a club at all anymore, and no mater the reasons, no mater who or what was at fault (and there were many many different factors) that is the reality.

Since then numerous crooks have taken a large bite out of us financially and on the pitch we've had to start almost every season with a brand new team cobbled together during the summer not to mention on a number of occasions a new manager in place as well.

All of this has left us behind not just Celtic who right now are unfortunately miles ahead financially, structurally and in terms of the playing squad but also teams such as Aberdeen as well. Yes we may have spent around 8 million this summer but remember that was to build an entire new first team, 11 new players in the door and unsurprisingly some will take longer than others to settle and adjust and overall it will take time for the team to gel and find consistency.

Yes we are bigger than Aberdeen and ultimately I believe we will overtake and finish above them in second but remember they have had a settled squad, settled management team, settled way of playing and settled infrastructure over the last 5 years, all the while we have been pretty much in turmoil. So although we are the bigger club and ultimately will end up showing that it will take that bit of patience to let it all come together.

Overall I believe we are in a better position than we were last year. We have more points on the board, we are scoring more goals and we do have better players overall. Yes some results haven't been what we've wanted but there are signs that we are getting there.

How many times last year did we score 3 or 4 goals against anyone? We are still short of players in a few positions and Pedro knows that. In the meantime we have to work towards closing the gap on Celtic and building a settled core of players that will be together for a number of seasons, something that hasn't happened since we were demoted. We have to give this management team and these players time. Stop caring what the morons in the press say.

Their jobs is to sell papers and nothing does that better than sensational headlines. Back the team and back the manager, it will take time which I know is painful and I know losing to Celtic and playing second best to them just now is pretty much unbearable but unfortunately it's the result of our circumstances just now.

However it will improve and we are getting there but changing things now and starting again won't help, it'll only put us further back. For anyone who made it to the end of this well done, sorry it was a bit long winded!

Ger78 spot on.
I too lived in an era where we were winning everything.
To put the shoe on the other foot so to speak, do you think the eastenders enjoyed watching us cruise to 9 in a row? i'm sure they hated every minute of it just like we are now.
We need to keep the faith. Things are undoubtedly getting better.

04 Oct 2017 20:34:14
Bottom line is rangers is about winning mate, you don't get time! And Pedro ain't winning!

04 Oct 2017 20:36:51
Great post, well said Ger78

04 Oct 2017 21:11:22
A spanking post 78. Welcome to the forum.
You've hit the nail right on the head with that one but as Jason said, you don't get time, which is my worry. We must go through a couple of seasons with a settled core ie management and team, adding a couple here and there along the way to strengthen. But as you quite rightly pointed out, impatience will be our undoing.
Anyway, enjoy the banter and try not to be so sensible with you following posts, it just not cricket old bean!

04 Oct 2017 20:52:40
Ger78. Execellent post which makes a lot of sense. My biggest concern was the lack of fight and desire shown by the players in last Old firm game. They stood off and allowed the opposition to play. Every player in that game was a failure who not for the first time in some cases shamed the jersey. PC needs to accept responsibility as there was an acceptance of defeat and no evidence of a game plan. I accept PC needs and will be given more time but he has made too many mistakes already and the clock is ticking. I hope he gets it right and turns it round but the evidence so far is alarming.

Excellent post ger78!I have been going to see glasgow rangers for over 40 years now mate! I reiterate everything you say in your, very well thought out post! Some of our supporters don't think logically and want to rip everything up at these times of adversity as we're inconsistent, largely IMO because we are an almost full new team! My message to them is give it time at least a season! I truly think our manager pedro caixinha will get it right and i still strongly fancy us to finish in front of aberdeen, in 2nd place! For anyone on here who even remotely thinks, that we've not got a better team and have indeed improved, since last season, clearly are deluded! We most definitely have a better team and better players than we had last season! Bit by bit we'll get there! We have to crawl before we can run! I just wish some on here would think and look at the bigger picture, instead of talking negative nonsense all the time! Back the manager and back the team and let's see where it takes us, come the end of the season! GER78,WELCOME MY FRIEND TO THE RANGERS TRANSFER/ RUMOURS PAGES! You talk a lot of sense sir!

04 Oct 2017 22:15:39
Last season it was give warbs time, its a new, they need time to settle and gel, they will come good, warbs is building an infrastructure bla bla bla. Its the exact same nonsense again this year! To put it simple, the players signed are not good enough with the exception of a few, the managers were/ are not good enough. The amount of money wasted on duds is a joke. You can give it aslong as you want but ped and most of these players are not and will never be up to it. I wish they were, Its horrible to watch us struggle but sadly they are just not good enough. We need a manager who knows the scottish game, we need players who have the fight.

@ger78 - welcome aboard. Good first post showing some required sanity about our current predicament.

Just seen today's pictures from training on the club website. Kenny Miller training with the group and not banished to the u-20's as suggested last week. So what is going on with him then, do we think?

04 Oct 2017 18:46:36
Personally i reckon PC has dropped a clanger. He has assumed Kenny was the mole and after seeing the Gers support backlash he has back peddled quickly.

04 Oct 2017 19:45:27
Or maybe training and captaining the development squad because he is going into coaching after his contract expires.

04 Oct 2017 20:02:49
Yeah that's plausible to bearmode

04 Oct 2017 17:56:33
Notice Kenny Miller back training with the rest of the team today. So much for the daily record crap.

05 Oct 2017 05:55:15
Blue Laudrup, from the outside looking in, i think our manager pedro caixinha has been very clever here, by playing the press, one newspaper in particular, like a fiddle! I really now do think that caixinha has had other reasons for sending kenny miller to CAPTAIN and play for the under 20's, against brentford, on sunday there! It certainly doesn't look like its the serious "BANISHED" situation, that the DR portrayed it to be! Caixinha is flushing the mole out, but it most certainly doesn't look like it's kenny miller! Everything seems to be back to normal between the 2,as kenny is now back training with the senior squad, rightly so to! Caixinha for as well as football reasons, dropped kenny only for these reasons and knew the press would pick up on it, the way they did! The mole has got the wrong end of the stick!

04 Oct 2017 12:23:48
I am no fan of pedro though i would love to be proved wrong. HOWEVER for years to come we are playing for second. Why? because generally money talks ( leicester exception noted)
Celtics bigger capacity in the league probably gives them 2 to 3 million more in gate money. There likelihood of winning the league, more of the cups and the tv money that goes with it. Then the champions league money plus the prospect of getting bigger transfers fees ( van dyke) . All of this means we just cannot compete financially.
So we have to consider the prospect of not winning the league for years to come. Or look at all options to close that gap. The stadium has to be an option . if celtic get 60,000 v hibs and west ham get 55,000 ( v swansea i think) then we can do better.
Thoughts chaps.

04 Oct 2017 13:52:44
Capacity of Ibrox has nothing to do with the success or non-success of the team.

The reason, if any, for us playing second fiddle for 'years to come', is due to our own financial mismanagement.

I would like Ibrox to be increased in capacity, however, it's got hee haw to do with success of the football club. We humped celtic for years with a stadium 10k less in capacity. Nonsense.

04 Oct 2017 13:54:08
If we don't have the said moneys coming in at present how do we fund stadium expansion!? We need to do it on the field celtic are ahead but they haven't spent tens of millions doing it most players have been brought in relatively cheaply or homegrown! We must build a team in the same fashion and wrestle the title back that way, it won't be this season might not be next but we will get there if WE stick together and back the guys who are working hard to deliver. Changing managers every season will only lengthen this process and diminish any funds we have

04 Oct 2017 14:09:53
Hunty - Whilst I think most would agree that their financial muscle is far beyond our reach, we shouldn't be playing for 2nd - we should have it in the bag, if we go by your logic.

There is few avenues available for us to try and make up the gap in CL money that they receive. One would be to sort this kit debacle and allow us to buy that lovely goalkeeper jersey. Secondly we could sell the naming rights to the stadium, thirdly, what money we do have available, we could invest more wisely.

Morelos is a prime example of good business, if he keeps his current form trend - we could fetch (realistically) £5-8m for him. Can the same be said of Pena, Windass, Rossiter or Herrera - not likely.

Unfortunately the most likely avenue for us to catch up is investment from shareholders, back to the days of Murray's millions (shakes head solemnly)

One this is for sure, we MUST stop 9 in a row - and if that means King whipping out a £10m loan to allow us to invest in the squad, so be it in my thinking.

The bigger question is. would the board trust the manager with that kind of budget again?

04 Oct 2017 14:41:32
Bearmode, i am not suggesting that capacity alone is the answer. But when we were humping celtic the champions league money was a lot less than it is now. I raised a pointfor discussion amongst fans. Its disappointing that you select on part of my post and suggest i am taking nonsense, if capacity has nothing to with success why g
have liverpool increasec d by 11,000,
west ham over 2o, ooo, mancity over 7000, tottenhamwill be 20,000, chelsea plans to do the same and i belive everton going to do similar. So if capacity nowt to with success why on earth are they doing it

04 Oct 2017 14:55:12
Finance is hugely important in football, no argument there but the gap between us and Celtic I would imagine is about the same as the gap between us and Aberdeen. And we seemed to have spent more in the summer transfer window than Celtic.

Too many making lack of money an excuse. Anybody else remember Aberdeen being the most consistent club in Scotland during the first half of the 80s? They won leagues and cups with far less money than either of the Old Firm. And Dundee United won a league with even less money than Aberdeen.

So how did they manage that?

They both had outstanding managers who both knew the Scottish game inside out. Both were great tactically and had a great eye for a player. And they both instilled a remarkable fighting spirit in their teams.

Can anybody say the same about Pedro?

04 Oct 2017 14:58:38
Jzer, i think mate they haven't spent big because they haven't needed to. The problem is that they will havre the financial muscle to do it if they need to.
but the fact is that they have spent 4 million or more on 4 players.
Not saying i have answers because i don't but i am pretty sure that stadium improvements have to be paid upfront. Mortgage? Anybody in the know about that .?

04 Oct 2017 15:00:14
Icrease capacity - increase revenue - increased chances of success. Good point huntywallsend.

04 Oct 2017 15:19:49
If we never spent that 5mil on pena and herrera, instead choosing to spend it on said options mentioned before then we would be up there, but hey let's get behind pedro and the banditos, with our support they might come good.

04 Oct 2017 16:27:52
Hunty, then by your logic of success and stadium capacity being interlinked, by listing me some clubs that have increased their capacity in England.

What's your opinion on Juventus decreasing their capacity to 40,000 (from 70,000). Since coming back from relegation they have more or less dominated Italian football.

Plus, half of those clubs you listed have not seen much success in recent years, so i'm not sure where you are going with that one.

I get your point about about increasing capacity to get more punters through the gate mate, I agree it will bring in some extra funds. But there is more important things the club can sort to bring in more money. And the board are doing that by sorting the clubs merchandising.

04 Oct 2017 17:36:29
Morelos £5-£8m? Who is currently going to pay that for him? You honestly think that teams in England will be willing to pay that? He has started well but scoring goals in the SPFL won't get you those kind of sums of money. Louis Moult has scored consistently in the SPFL but do you think anyone would pay £5m for him

04 Oct 2017 18:16:56
man city, Chelsea, spurs and West ham have all increased there capacity because of demand for tickets. do you think West ham are going to win anything because they have a bigger stadium? doubt they will. they have increased there capacity because the can charge crazy amounts for tickets and have the demand because every couple of weeks they play a big team. like previously mentioned, we pumped them for years with 10000 less seats. I'd love ibrox to be bigger but to day increasing capacity would enhance or chances of success is mental. the problems lie deeper than that

04 Oct 2017 19:05:19
Here in lies the problem, when we even remotely look close to taking the title frim them, they are so obsessed with 10 in a row I could see them spending big to get it. We were the same trying to get it. let's hope it does go full circle and they waste it on diddys.

04 Oct 2017 19:48:21
They've got a better manager plain and simple. moneys not the be all and end all. look at ther squad there's not bn a lot spent on it. actually apart from sinclair and dembele, Rodgers' signings haven't bn great its guys that wer already ther that are making the difference like thunb nut, roberts, mcgregor, brown, armstrong, tierny, rogic. he bought that African boy for abt 3m and he's hardly kicked a ball

04 Oct 2017 19:58:12
what a load of nonsense mate they had more seats than us throughout 9 in a row didn't they.

its all down to the fact wqe have just came back from financial ruin.

a lot of again but i just have to point out juve and fiorentina they have both managed to get back to full strength after ruin and so will we

we don't even need to be richer than celtic to win this league just need to build a team with some consistency.

chopping and changing managers because of a poor start or because u don't like the way he speaks is not gonny cut it

we need stability and good structure

04 Oct 2017 19:58:50
Most of the big English teams have increased capacity due to demand. I’m sure Spurs have a waiting list of 20000. Liverpool also easily sold there increase.

04 Oct 2017 21:17:13
Huntywallsend great post mate. Increasing the capacity if the stadium will not guarantee success however it makes a statement of intent from Rangers football club . We are back we are going to be better and bigger than ever. All of this creates a mental image of the club to the opposition. We should never have allowed our main rivals to have a 10000 capacity more than us for so long . We used to have the biggest stadium and fergus McCann comes along at a time when Celtic were getting 25000 at games and builds a 60000 seater. Not just a couple of 1000 more than ibrox 10000. And Guess what, all the fans bought into as he knew they would because it made them bigger than there rivals. On top of that the extra season ticket money is a huge bonus. So I believe the same as Hunty that stadium expansion has a massive part to play. I have previously posted if you take the giant screens out the corners and fill them the stadium is 59000 . its a good start but we need a couple 1000 more for obvious reasons . Thanks

04 Oct 2017 08:27:02
We all know we need a run of results to boost the confidence levels in everyone at the club and in the stands. Confidence is everything in sport and makes a huge difference in performance, we all have our opinions as to who should be playing but who ever is in the team they need to compete more all over the pitch and when we are attacking we need a lot more boddies in the box not the one or two we seem to have in games this season four, five, or six even. More boddies more goals a lot more goals.

03 Oct 2017 21:07:13
Trueger talks absolute mince! Worst team in Rangers history are you having a laugh! That team were a privlage to watch and you are a complete embarrassment to yourself!
Do you think that team would have laid of celtic like our current team done last week?

04 Oct 2017 08:53:43
Yately spot on mate. The big difference was that rangers team were winners, fighters and absolute pros. Not to mention captain rangers barry ferguson.

04 Oct 2017 09:07:15
Spot on lads

04 Oct 2017 09:48:19
I know Yately i'm still in a state of shock at that 1 as well mate

04 Oct 2017 11:43:38
I think he made a good point about backing the team and the heightened pressure and expectation when playing for rangers. And that in the team we have now with not so many big, strong characters that a lot of the new lads are struggling.

But as for the rest of it. utter drivel.

Have some great memories of that team. I was thinking about the time cousin hadn't played for months then Walter stuck him upfront against Celtic and he ran them ragged.

04 Oct 2017 14:18:38
Dunc - I agree that the fans moans and groans after one misplaced pass can crush someone and their future performances. It's one thing that I hate is after ten mins - a misplaced long ball etc and someone is right under the cosh already. People will say - oh you have to have the mentality to cope with it - however - we are SUPPORTERS, there to SUPPORT during the 90mins. Come a Monday I will be on here ripping people a new rear end, but during the game I try my best to encourage players.

The list of players that have crumbled the last few years is nuts as on paper at least, they are decent SPFL Prem players.

Law
Shiels
Mckay
Zelalem
Zaliukas
Sandaza
Templeton
Black
O'Halloran
Foster
Kiernan
Wilson
Waghorn

All of the above I think are decent enough players, some very good players, but the pressures of playing in front of a crowd that can become very hostile very quickly totally drains players of their confidence and ability.

04 Oct 2017 15:23:39
Blueblazer, nope mate, they are all shite. The reason they crumble is because they are not good enough it really is as simple as that. Nothing to do with the fans.

04 Oct 2017 16:05:53
They are far from rubbish.

All of the players there are gifted enough to be playing in the SPFL Prem, no doubt about it. Are they capable of playing for Celtic? No. are any of our players realistically? No.

I am not saying that these players are top level players, but they are all capable of playing in a better standard of Rangers team and performing at a better level than they did for us. Would they be de Boer, Ferguson etc no.
Would they be capable of playing at a level of Stephen Hughes, and filling a squad out, with a bit of quality? yes.

If you are trying to tell me that the "fans" aren't an issue with players playing at Ibrox then, in, my opinion, you are deluded.
Ibrox (except the UB) is like a library except the odd grumble of discontent when a pass goes backward or wayward.

04 Oct 2017 17:09:41
Blueblazer

I agree with coldo. Rubbish players and at best squad players. They've all had their chance but because of a lack of ability they couldn't make it.

Because someone shouts at you doesn't mean you go and hide. You show some character and go again. Fans up and down the country are the same. The players aren't under 10s.

04 Oct 2017 19:45:32
Then got sent off before going to Hull the next day😂

04 Oct 2017 20:57:07
Just watched it in youtube, I forgot he was sent off haha. Still played amazing though and it was a cracking game. Pedro Mendes with an absolute screamer. And celtics Dutch forward also sent off. (not even going to attempt to spell his name)

05 Oct 2017 06:44:47
Venegoor of Castlemilk lol. MCmanus and Caldwell didn't stop greeting that day til big Cousin got sent off. the best part of it was seeing big daft Boruc making another howler and Miller taking abt a week to put it in the net 😂.
