Seeing loads of guys complaining at us being linked with rated prospects from smaller teams than us.

I must admit I agree. Why waste our time with these players when guys like Sanchez and ozil are out of contract in the summer and aguero seems to be getting pushed out at man city.

Ozil and ryan jack would be a decent midfield and Sanchez would be brilliant up top with morelos leaving aguero as an impact sub.

It does seem the club is taking a diffrent route and are looking for younger lads with potenial and sell on value that's fine if there good enough and can make a diffrence straight away to the squad and play in the team.
But bringing in loan players i do not see the point espically if we have no chance signing them like the lad goss.
Overall it seems the strategy at the club has changed and we are looking to cut costs.

06 Jan 2018 01:12:48
aye sarcy attitude totally justified mate because there's nothing in between the elite players you mentioned and the unproven ones we are linked it. totally bang on to look at league one etc

06 Jan 2018 10:29:07
You can see clearly the market we operate in at present.

We've a base of experience, your tavs, Wallace, alves, dorrans, Jack, Miller. Some young lads, morelos, mcrorie, John. Some squad players, holt, windass, halliday, ohallaran, candias, wilson.

The transfer market is for exactly what we're doing. Moving on the guys that can't hack it, freeing up resources to bring players in who can.

Murphy seems a good signing, the loan guys some we'll keep, some we'll change again in the summer.

As long as we are continually moving forward it doesn't matter.

All the names unfortunately won't excite us, but if we pick up the odd nougat along the way, all good.

We are obviously prepared to pay the wages for key players.

05 Jan 2018 21:08:33
Anyone know what the delay is in announcing and parading Jamie Murphy? The manky mob have signed and announced Lewis Morgan in the space of 24hrs and yet here we go again. I know it's only 5th Jan and there's plenty of time but it seems like the summer all over again when each signing seemed to drag on and on.

05 Jan 2018 21:48:13
Totally with you on this struth1872!
Everything we do seems to be an ordeal and drawn out affair! God knows what the hold up is regarding the signing of jamie murphy! Your correct mate, everytime we try to sign a player, appoint a manager etc, seems to be an opera and rigmorole, instead of getting it done and dusted! Jamie murphy would be a cracking signing for us, if we can sign him!

05 Jan 2018 22:01:49
Supposedly done all pictures have been taking and will be on the plane to florida or sledge watching the news, but all done

06 Jan 2018 11:57:07
Daily record and the s*n saying 11th hour problem with the deal. Well, surprise surprise. Celtic sign Lewis Morgan in the space of 24hrs, Everton, Chelsea all signing players without problem and here we go again, making a James Hunt of it. I know Everton and Chelsea are operating above our level but I just used that as an example of boards who aren't blithering idiots.

06 Jan 2018 13:43:02
DJ on SSB said that he past his medical just waiting on paperwork from Brighton and we will announce it tomorrow before we fly out.

06 Jan 2018 13:49:18
I believe Murphy deal done just waiting till tomorrow to announce it reason been celtic came out today with there signing.

06 Jan 2018 13:51:49
Lets hope he has passed his medical and more importantly Rangers have paid the asking price.

05 Jan 2018 19:29:23
Why is it when it comes too getting players/ managers we set our selfs up for a fall . just wish we would sign them first

06 Jan 2018 13:40:56
Heard on SSB from derek Johnston that Murphy has passed his medical just waiting on paperwork from Brighton will be announced tomorrow.

05 Jan 2018 18:58:58
Just read the s*n saying about a clear out saying Alves Pena Herrera cardoso to leave but then say we want to bring in some player from Hamilton and jones from Kilmarnock after of course signing someone who can't get a game at qpr if this is the standard of players we are looking at then I'm giving up. Granted the above names that Pedro brought in haven't worked out but at least on paper they are a far higher standard than what we are looking at now for example that's a Portuguese international a Portuguese under 23 international and two former Mexican internationals so at least Pedro tried to up the ante the players we are going for Now are all players the likes of Aberdeen hearts hibs could get very underwhelming!

05 Jan 2018 19:16:59
Totally agree deano

05 Jan 2018 19:36:49
Deano

Unfortunately none of these signings have worked out and tbh are you really surprised that the 2 Mexicans haven’t worked out? Neither are suited to our game and have made little impact. Not saying they don’t have quality but they aren’t suited to Scotland. The players from Hamilton and Kilmarnock are young guys who know the league

05 Jan 2018 19:45:16
But they will never be able to compete with Celtic or at Europa league level they are decent spfl players that's it we need better.

05 Jan 2018 20:11:33
Totally agree alves is a class defender. Pena doesn’t do much granted but has a good goals to minutes ratio half of which is 10 20 mins a game just not suited to Scottish football and I think cardoso is ok too. I think Bates and Wilson are good but remember against teams like Dundee Hamilton etc they’ve been terrible so just hope they can keep performance up

05 Jan 2018 20:18:47
But spending millions on foreign, untried players on the off chance they might work out? That can't be the grand plan surely? I want us to compete in Europe but first we've to compete in the Premier league.
Oh and we're skint

05 Jan 2018 20:24:07
Your a glass half empty kinda lad Deano.

06 Jan 2018 13:47:08
Footballs not won on paper though.

05 Jan 2018 18:01:18
I heard he had signed

05 Jan 2018 17:10:10
Off the gers but what about 140 mill for coutinho spelling wrong, cracking player but that's obscene, now liverpool will get held by other teams aka van dyke to ransom, will this crazy cash ever stop or will the rich keep on going for it, psg a prime example, will the lesser leagues ever be able to match up, personally i can't see it in a million years.

05 Jan 2018 17:49:59
This will continue until the TV money bubble implodes, which it will, even then we go back to only the top clubs able to compete

06 Jan 2018 13:42:02
Can't see the TV money bubble bursting when Amazon are now supposed to be interested in the EPL rights.

06 Jan 2018 13:44:04
What I don’t understand is when top clubs in England are forking out 2/3 hundred million on players in a season. Why on earth do they continue to rip the fans off and charge such extortionate prices for match day tickets when that side of the revenue stream is hardly crucially in comparison.

The top teams could let fans in for free and wouldn’t even feel a dent in their pockets what with the tv deals and advertising, sponsorships and the rest of it.

05 Jan 2018 17:01:13
I'm guessing the club or at least Murty isn't interested in walker anymore as don't think I've heard anything like rumours ect about him coming to us this transfer window or did the chance to join us evaporate in the summer just past just asking incsse anyone else might have heard any further info on whiter were are still interested in signing him.?

05 Jan 2018 17:09:50
According to the Scotsman Walker is in Wigan finalising a move to Athletic today. Hopefully Murphy (when he actually signs) will prove a much better buy in the long term.

05 Jan 2018 17:11:45
Tommy it's because he was a 1 season wonder he's cap

05 Jan 2018 17:33:34
Rumours going round we offered 300k today - hearts unwilling to let him talk to rangers, however I thought he could speak to any club with 6 months left

05 Jan 2018 17:45:18
Gers09 he can speak to any club about signing a precontract for a move in the summer. But if we want him now we'd need to agree a fee with hearts first. Let him go to Wigan is my opinion.

05 Jan 2018 22:45:44
Think it’s a bit harsh to call him crap but I would be concerned about his injuries. We have been burnt so many times signing injury prone players so it’s understandable that interest has cooled

06 Jan 2018 13:44:05
Murphy in Walker deal not happening, Walker too injury prone,
Give me Murphy anytime, will be a great addition very fast and direct and knows all about SPL, Pedro's downfall!

05 Jan 2018 15:14:44
I hope were not covering any of Penas wages if the stories are true that Cruz Azul aren't even willing to pay anything upfront and if it doesn't work out we will still be stuck with a complete us less lump!

05 Jan 2018 16:57:19
There dof says we r paying 50% of wages

05 Jan 2018 17:17:58
Hers a taught Pen tells Pedro will u take me for half the wages I'm on now Pedro tells him OK but don't tell rangers and we'll ask them to pay half the wages your on just now and that be rangers paying you all your wages but make sure you don't tell rangers OMG am parra noo

05 Jan 2018 19:50:10
The record rangers podcast stated that Pena and Herrera combined were in about 40k a week. I didn’t think we had payed that sort of cash for many a year. But then again look how much Kevin kyle was milking us for.

If they are on anything like this then we need to get shot of them both pro, regardless of the method.

05 Jan 2018 13:48:45
feel sorry for the guy last week that reassured everybody that Murphy was a tim supporter because he knew a close pal who knew Murphy well, but hey we all make they mistakes don't we, gave us a laugh though.

06 Jan 2018 13:12:59
He actually said he knew his Ex bird the poor wee soul. Cammy i think it was if my memory serves me right 🤔.

05 Jan 2018 10:44:43
If we are considering sending pena on loan then he must be on a lot of wages
i think this is a bad mistake by the club should be demanding a transfer perment
Cause if it doesn't work out then no one will want to take him and we will have him back

05 Jan 2018 10:59:31
Often the club taking the loan player pay 50% or sometimes more of the players wages. I would imagine this would be in place as his wages are high.

05 Jan 2018 12:24:53
I was speaking to someone a couple of days ago that was telling me Pena is on around £30k - that’s mental a player on that amount should be bossing this league
Would be good to get him off the wage bill for sure

05 Jan 2018 13:07:31
Figure I was told was that it was around the 20k mark. Alves is apparently same.

05 Jan 2018 13:23:54
I was told Alves was on the same as well. The guy works at the club but I don’t see how anyone other than the player themselves would know exactly what a player was on
One thing is for sure we have had a rotten return on both of them for the money paid

Hopefully we have a good transfer window and manage to get rid of a few underperforming players and get a few quality players in
Jamie Murphy is a good start

05 Jan 2018 11:41:07
I read report in paper that pena is on 30k, but alves is on 39k a week. Surely a load of baws but if that's true then that is just terrible

05 Jan 2018 17:47:11
There's no way we're paying someone 39k a week

05 Jan 2018 18:07:39
Don't believe Pena would be on 30 grand a week maybe 20 but look it another way if he plays well enough when he returns to Mexico he might make the national team and with the world cup in the summer has a good tournament we might even make some money you never know.

06 Jan 2018 13:13:58
Pena is on 25k Basic a week and Alves is on 30k a week Basic therefore making Alves the highest paid player at Rangers and has it in contract that whoever comes in he would be highest paid player so Would go up if another player was given 30k a week and so on.

05 Jan 2018 09:40:10
Why not swap Bruno Alves for Ryan Gauld.

05 Jan 2018 10:25:54
That seems like the daftest thing I've heard on here swap a top international for a b league reserve player. Gauld was going to be this and that but never developed. Alves may not seem if his heart is in it but if this was the days of sir Walter he would have got an arm around his shoulder and got him back on track. Does anyone not think that the fact we have gelled at the back all our young cb have developed rapidly has nothing to do with Playing and training with a top pro who has done it all and won it all all the kids have spoke about the talks he has had with them I for one hope they continue. I have said before his heart doesn't always seem to be in it, this could come from knowing how much Pedro was failing and seeing himself tied to it, he speaks good English so he will certainly know what the fans have been saying, he may be an old head as a player but as a man he is still a young guy and just needs to have a word in his ear that he is needed I would get him helping out coaching as the stuff that he has done during Pedros reign is still beneficial to us.

05 Jan 2018 12:13:21
Alves is finished though

05 Jan 2018 12:22:40
Caw you no finished I've never heard anything positive from you. The place we were weakest last year and before was at the back then alves came in and we improved you ain't telling me Pedro turned around the defenders it's working beside someone of alves's stature.

05 Jan 2018 14:08:09
I'm just happy that by Gary's train of thought I'm still young.
I certainly do feel like it on many a Sunday morning ;)

06 Jan 2018 13:01:47
Alves has been average at best since he came to us and there's no getting away from that

06 Jan 2018 13:15:51
Bates and wilson should play at the back with mccrorie as the holding mid. Bates has been solid against hibs aberdeen celtic. Time for him to get the game time to push on his development.

06 Jan 2018 14:05:15
I think over time the CB pairing will be Mcrorie and Wilson coldo

05 Jan 2018 09:36:43
I honestly believe, taking into account the financial situation we will go down the more patient, financially secure route of taking big earners off the wage bill - Niko (20k a week) Bruno (20k a week) Pena (20k a week) Herrera (15k per week) Rossiter (10k per week) and Cordoso (10k a week) . I am not certain my figures are bang on but I don’t believe I am far off. With all of those guys taking in those wages it works out at - 4.9 MILLION per year. Are we seeing a return now on in the long term. Definitely not. The people responsible for signing off contracts like this with players like Niko who has been injured for 50% of every season in his 17 year career (Wikipedia) . Shocking. Sorry back to my point - i wouldn’t expect lots of transfer activity. We will have Andy Halliday and Michael OHalloran back who if Murty can bring the best out of them as he has done Holt and Danny Wilson then brilliant. We will also have Wallace back, then Jack and then hopefully Dorrans too which will be like new signings as we have been without the captain and Dorrans all season. We then have players like Jordan Thompson who’s 21 years old and surely will be featuring soon, just like Barjonas, Hardie and then hopefully Serge Atayaki who constantly receives rave reviews. Halliday, MOH, Wallace, Jack, Dorrans, Barjonas, Thompson, Hardie, Atayaki with the arrival of Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy gives us 11 new players for a very minimal financial outlay. We lose the big earners like Niko, Pena etc and we have really tightened up the weekly outgoings. The team, as it is has the potential to definitely secure second spot but we are running on tired legs and we need freshness to be able to rotate more. These extra 11 would give us that. We recouperate wage bill and it gives Mark Allen, Graeme Murty and Jimmy Nicholl longer to prepare for the big window in the summer. I hope the club go down this route. No rash, rushed signings to play to the expectancy of fans. Do what’s best for the bigger picture. Add some stability.

05 Jan 2018 09:54:29
Jmk14 - sensible post - lots of ifs and buts and hope that some of these young players come good - but makes sense where we are financially.
Take cover as the usual naysayers take aim!

05 Jan 2018 10:20:15
Hope some of those wages are way off! Rossiter and cardosa £10k! Don't think it's going to that easy to get some of those boys off the wage bill

05 Jan 2018 11:01:11
Rossiter was 10k a week at Liverpool. England under 19 captain and captained Liverpool’s reserves as well as coming off the bench for the first team. Cordoso capped by Portugal at full senior level so this whacks their weekly wage right up.

05 Jan 2018 11:08:07
Can't disagree with much of that JMK14! U can't beat common sense!

05 Jan 2018 12:54:54
Cordoso doesn't have any full caps.

05 Jan 2018 13:37:44
Thanks mate. I actually forgot to include Miller, as bit part as he may end up being, and I hear Dodoo and Forrester are being recalled too. Again I say, this just adds legs to a tired team who’s objective is simply to finish second. If we can do that with what we already have we will save money and we will be in a better place to add next level quality in the summer.

I am hearing Doherty from Hamilton and Jordon Jones from Kilmarnock be linked. Youseff Mulumbu of Kilmarnock too. Low key signings. Not a lot of financial outlay. Makes sense right now.
