Some of you nationalist-minded 'fans' on here would rather see us stuck in a mire of mediocrity as long as we were signing 'Scots'. Rhodes and McCormack? You must be joking! I want to see my team attract the highest possible calibre of players and not just any has-been or never-will-be who happens to be of a particular nationality. simply the best, i'd take rhodes and mcormick all day long rhodes is a goalscorer just lost his way or joined the wrong team that doesn't suit his style of play, mcormick was fantastic at leeds and fulham i watched him play at fulham very good footbaler who would be great if he can keep focused. the championship is a hard league to play in 2 games a week every week. they would be better value for money than defoe at 36 and on big wages. london jock

bluberry i'm not fussed about buying scottish. responding to post regarding to simply the bests post. let's face it we don't have great scottish players playing in england anymore. I've seen rhodes and mcormick in the flesh play both good players who would be value for money both players combined have cost over 30 million, they have something about them still. we couldn't afford mcormick the wages and bounus he gets at villa are obscene. rhodes could be a different matter. london jock

Ok so you do realise that the only people that were making such statements were rather hopeful fans? I don’t remember any club statements announcing there would be a marque signing along with the strip release so can you explain how this is a false dawn?
As someone else mentioned, the whole idea of holding back an agreed signing so they could coincide with th strip release would be mental considering we have a european tie coming next week. The strip release will always of had an official date and players will be announced as and when they are signed.

My point was aimed at the guys from here that continued to express their confidence in a marquee signing at the same time as the strip launch not the club. Also, it wasn’t a derogatory slant at them but more of a hopeful enquiry if there is still something in the pipeline?

Bathgatebear it's going to be an ongoing process regarding signings. I believe we will sign 2 players after the English teams finalise their squads. Remember we can sign players right up till end of August so loads of time.
