i honestly don't understand why Hodson doesn't get a game over tav or wallace, might not be the best player going forward but he can defend better than both combined.

07 Jul 2017 00:41:52
I would play him rather than Wallace, that would solve the captaincy problem as well. I don't think Hodson is that great a player and I would rather we signed better but right now Wallace is very poor and his leadership qualities are zero.

07 Jul 2017 00:44:33
Hodson is not the answer.

07 Jul 2017 01:24:31
Agree with Tomusa don't think hodson is much of an improvement on either.

07 Jul 2017 01:25:02
Agree with Ruddiger that's meant to say

07 Jul 2017 06:08:14
The fullbacks we have are not the answer either.

06 Jul 2017 23:22:31
We should sign the striker from Progres. caused us probs and would be cheap.

07 Jul 2017 00:46:11
Ridiculous!

06 Jul 2017 20:37:14
Let's hope Dorrans can give us some steel along with Alves and that the Mexicans spice it up with some goals. that's 4 new players that could light it up 4 us! . Come on Gers! . Guaranteed Alves and Dorrans are right on the money so come on Pena and Herrera!

Montae Gers let's go

Chin up

I feel like my old grampa on the fkn touchline.

Heid first right in tae them!

06 Jul 2017 21:48:25
We will still struggle if we don't change our captain and look to sign a couple of quality fullbacks!

07 Jul 2017 00:47:55
Think Pedro already had the plan to make alves captain a long time ago not doubt for me that's what will happen.

07 Jul 2017 08:29:52
dont know how you are all going on about full backs PEDRO is problem sack him now and sack who recommended him. get big eck in on temp basis

07 Jul 2017 08:42:38
Ahh big Eck😂 remind me what he has done recently in football? Except from being sacked.

It wasn't Caixinhas fault the players didn't put enough effort in, the man was livid on the touchline.

07 Jul 2017 09:15:14
Onlyshowaroind, I'm sticking with and will support Pedro, but the defeat certainly was his fault. He selected the wrong players and did not prepare them properly for the tie. At least he has aplogised and accepted full responsibility

06 Jul 2017 19:03:39
I know Pedro had just signed 9 new players most of whom none of us have heard of but I still think he needs to go now! I'd much rather trust Alex MacLeish to get the best out of what players we have now than Pedro he is tactically useless I'd never heard of him before he came in and I'd love it if I never heard from him again.

06 Jul 2017 20:34:16
Yes let's get a known failed manager to replace a potential failed manager, Alex has been shown the door repeatedly.

06 Jul 2017 21:38:21
If anyone needs to assist Caixinha Graeme Murty should be promoted to work with the first team.

06 Jul 2017 21:49:52
Sorry but I wouldn't let Macleish within a million miles of Rangers! let's wait and see how Pedro progresses. He must know by now the changes that he still needs to make and where the team is still very weak!

06 Jul 2017 22:00:49
Treble winning manager, first manager to take a Scottish Club to the last 16 of the CL, league cup winning manager in England! Mcleish is a failed manager?

06 Jul 2017 23:19:19
@j1985 - he's done HeeHaw since that League Cup win with Birmingham. Failed at every club since.

07 Jul 2017 01:27:11
For the moment Wer stuck with Pedro I'm not 100% convinced either but these early European games are always dodgy, judge him and his signings after 10 league games.

07 Jul 2017 05:09:30
Ill probably get my heid chewed off for this. But he has only had two competitive games with SOME of his players. Imo the games came too soon, hardly any break for last year, hardly any preseason, not enough time to play all the new players - never mind gel practically whole a new team. - not that it is an excuse.

As much as it hurts being embarrassed like that and seeing how slow we were getting the ball in dangerous positions we need to give the guy the benefit of doubt for now. (Its hard to trust especially after warbs)

No doubt we need to hit the ground running in the league but i'm sure they will be putting the hours in on the training ground to bring everyone together and get a bit of cohesion.

06 Jul 2017 18:17:15
Is anybody worried about how actually unbalanced the squad looks? ( Although i do need enlightened on whatcthe hell pedros preferred formations are! We seem over ran with central mids now.

06 Jul 2017 23:39:14
Its 2_ 7_ 1 formation flood the midfield lol

06 Jul 2017 17:30:47
Some have mentioned in the past about luxury players. Do we think Niko is a luxury for us at the moment. Not fully fit and has lost a bit of pace. Yes his ability is there for all to see, still we lost to an average team. He missed our best chances also. Do you think if he had been replaced with say Barjonas we could have one the games. What do reckon, luxury or necessity.

06 Jul 2017 17:56:22
Niko was probably our best player.

06 Jul 2017 18:51:15
So what is pedros favored midfield now?

07 Jul 2017 13:00:54
For me Niko in the home games, however luxury playing away from home

06 Jul 2017 17:26:41
Well done the Rangers board getting in Dorrans 2 weeks to late as you argued over pennies we suffered one of the worst defeats in our history was the 100k worth it?

06 Jul 2017 17:52:53
Les

Do u think if dorrans was playing we would have went through? the team we had on the park was more than capable of beating them. You can't blame the board for trying to save money on a player, that's one of the reasons we were in a mess in the first place

06 Jul 2017 18:16:47
All I know is we, re the laughing stock of Britain ., . were our board doing there job in a proper manner at the time, the answer is no they thought we were better than we were and the minnow worse where was our director of football big wage I bet or did the all think someone else was doing the job of getting us into the next round. how many layers of management were looking the other way and penny pinching bet you think it's just one of these things?

06 Jul 2017 21:54:55
Yes, even in amateur football you ensure that you have a strong leader as captain so Rangers appoint a guy that hides every time there is a problem and a guy that cannot lead by example and doesn't even have the courage to apologise to the fans, (leaving a young lad that has been out injured for almost a season to apologise and try and spur the team on)

06 Jul 2017 17:25:27
He's blue he's white he's ****** dynamite Graham Dorrans, Graham Dorrans!

06 Jul 2017 16:15:32
On a lighter note in Vegas for 4th July break, the place is covered in red white and blue, then what did l see walking into the Mandalay yesterday 2 manky hoops. They looked like a couple of homeless manks.
It was nice though that everywhere they looked they saw the red white and blue.

06 Jul 2017 17:28:06
LOL! 💙🇬🇧🔴🔵⚪️

06 Jul 2017 16:11:16
Hi Folks,
Extremely disappointing time at present but we need to try and stay strong, l read again about the title stripping from the manks, my opinion is if they they want to bang on about integrity, let's put all cards on the table. It was reported l believe some of them invested in a dodgy movie deal, it was said that the club encouraged some of its employees to use this. So if that is the case let's have a full investigation into that issue. I may be wrong but l thought l read their chairman was involved.
Thoughts bears.

06 Jul 2017 16:33:12
it wasn't just a Celtic thing I don't think mate. Plenty ex rangers players invested in the same scheme

06 Jul 2017 17:01:37
Fair enough but let's look at everything, not just all things Rangers. It needs to be a cross the board

06 Jul 2017 18:39:17
Also, let's not forget that their largest shareholder's bank was fined £30,000 by Latvian authorities for “violations of money laundering and terrorist-financing laws”.

Pretty sure they have benefited from his dirty money. Let's get looking into that.

06 Jul 2017 22:34:16
Good shout Ruddiger, it's time some light was shone into the grubby recesses of porkhied

06 Jul 2017 22:58:37
Ruddiger, the Irish Authorities have been trying to pin something on that particular person for years and have failed! Just a pity t scandal was swept under the carpet, I am pretty sure that there was a lot more involved with him!

06 Jul 2017 15:49:32
Controversial- but what about signing
Nadir Ciftci

06 Jul 2017 16:24:29
To do what?

06 Jul 2017 16:38:06
Isn't Van Hooydonk his agent? Line his pockets? I'd rather chew my own foot off than give that **** a penny

06 Jul 2017 16:39:14
Great post Bluebaws

06 Jul 2017 21:39:40
Score goals and give us a presence up front - decent player doing nothing. Narrow minded p**h re agent
He was always a threat - and is he better than we currently have

07 Jul 2017 07:50:04
Nothing to do with being narrow-minded. Van Hoydoonk is not professional- he hates us. But I can see your logic tho-sign a player who failed miserably at Celtic to challenge them. just what we need, another MOH.

06 Jul 2017 15:20:28
Formation going forward for me HAS to be 3-5-2

Fod

06 Jul 2017 15:51:05
eventually someone agrees. for sure must be 352. 442 would be a disaster

06 Jul 2017 16:30:39
If we are going play 352 then we certainly need a new wing backs as tav and wallace are not good enough as for 442 i would say with current players pena jack in middle pena is a box to midfielder and jack is more defence so certainly could work with 2 wingers supplying the front 2 and new left and right back who can defend so certainly wouldn't be disaster if we done 442 or 352 as long as defence tighted up

06 Jul 2017 14:49:03
Not rocket science but bringing even 1 South American to Ibrox was a huge gamble. How many actually achieve in Scottish football. To bring in so many was mismanagement. Dalcio looks a total dud, but then he was a second team player at Benfica!

Alves will be good, Cardosa looks fine, Jack and Dorrans are quality, but over the rest lies a huge question mark! And on that rests Pedro's future. They flop and he won't last till Xmas!
50/ 50 in my view!

06 Jul 2017 15:31:36
Totally agree! Spent a few quid on Pena by all accounts so its essential he's the real deal. Fingers crossed but how many South Americans have been a success in Scotland?

I will support PC as long as I can but not convinced at all. I would be happier if I had an idea what his play style/ tactics are meant to be. Gave him the benefit of the doubt last season but early evidence looks the same. Hopefully it will look different once they are all settled with a pre season under them.

06 Jul 2017 15:47:52
Mexico is not in South America lads. Herrera and Pena are two physical players which is exactly what we need in those positions. We will be solid in central areas this year, our main worry is the flanks (left side is biggest worry) . If we can get Herrera and Morales (who is South American :-) ) to click with Miller giving us 30 minutes when required then we will give a few teams a doing. but the team need two months minimum to gel.

On another note, Wallace needs to concentrate on his game now, time to give up the captaincy and let Alves control the troops.

06 Jul 2017 16:01:49
Even less successful Central Americans in Scotland Bazza! haha

Aye both look like big boys. Not seen much Mexican football but my concern would be the pace of the SPL for them. Must say though iv had a good feeling about Pena since he signed, hope i'm right.

Don't like to judge too harshly after 2 games but Dalcio doesn't look the answer to anything.

Agreed on Wallace. Been a great servant but way off the pace the last year.

06 Jul 2017 17:31:37
True not many successful Central Americans in Scottish football but I zaguirre (Honduran not Mexican I know) came over and won Player of the Year in his first season in 2011 so why can't Herrera or Pena do the same!

06 Jul 2017 14:44:00
This is what needs to be done for Rangers to improve of course there's gelling time and there is players having to communicate better not only on the field but having to learn English

1. We need to strip Lee Wallace of the captaincy I love him and he is loyal but he is not vocal enough Personally I think he will become a better player aswell Give Alves it he's a leader!

2. We honestly need a better keeper Foderingham for me can make some belting saves but can also let howlers go by him!

3. Get the tactics right That playing two defensive midfielders to cover four defenders is a shambles and leaves us short going up the park It didn't work! Jordan Rossiter is just back so if we were going to play a player in front of the defence then it should've just been Ryan Jack and that would've allowed more opportunities for the midfield to break free with the extra man

4. Are we looking at wingers that simply aren't good enough That can definitely be said of Dalcio not sure about Candeias but I'm sure Barrie McKay is quicker than both of those players

5. We are need a proper right back James Tavernier can't cross a ball and he can't bypass a player and absolutely honking tracking back

6. It debatable on whether we need a striker as going on Morelos's performance he does look short of experience at this level or is it the fact that tactics are terrible? His previous team HIM Helsinki would've beat our latest opponents Progres

The team and formation I would play just now: 4-4-2

Foderingham?

Tavernier? Cardoso Alves (Capt) Wallace

Candeias Jack Pena Dorrans

Herrera Miller

06 Jul 2017 14:29:20
I think most of us need to get a grip. This comp has come far too early for a team that has had so many changes.

We can not afford to start sacking managers who are in their managerial infancy with the club. It's time for calmness.

Now we focus on the season ahead and that's all. We would have been lucky to get past the next team on that current form.

There are a couple of good, good players now at the club. Jack looks great, Cardoso is very composed and Niko will be a sound. We have to accept that these players alone show progress. The rebuilding job is a long long process with lots of hard losses ahead. So dig deep suck it up and stay strong.

06 Jul 2017 15:21:35
I'm sick of hearing excuses. It doesn't matter how early the game came for us, or how it's a new team. The fact is we were soundly beaten by a bunch of part-timers. That is inexcusable! We can't even consider ourselves unlucky because Progess deserved their win.

06 Jul 2017 15:48:45
The result was bad but what worries me more is the clueless look through the team. I thought we looked the same last year but gave the benefit of the doubt as not his players. While he needs to be given time that won't wash now. At all. He has been backed and nearly all his targets signed. Time to start doing the talking on the pitch. I don't want to hear anymore statements from Pedro and King as all they have done is made us look even stupider. Heads down for the next 4 weeks and hopefully see some huge improvement!

06 Jul 2017 14:10:18
The pure hatred and bile spouted by rival fans against our club has gone beyond banter. Never used to notice it much througout the 90s as we blew every team away but now through the banter years and now as our team looks clueless on the park its worrying. Taking it tight the now in work. Everyones a pure hector tax expert know it all fud. Hopefully things get better soon! Ill take a win in the 1st old firm game.

06 Jul 2017 13:55:43
Is this court ruling really pointing towards title stripping? If so does it mean all of them? what's actually going on here?

06 Jul 2017 15:51:24
14 Trophies won while EBTs were in use mate. Had an idiot in work slabbering there about 9IAR been tainted. Check yer dates ya plum haha.

06 Jul 2017 16:17:52
dazrfc86 The SFA will not be taking disciplinary action after taking advice from their QC. I haven't seen any comments from the SPFL.

06 Jul 2017 17:21:58
Right kl cheers i really wasnt sure if the details

06 Jul 2017 13:40:55
Dorrans will be an excellent signing, now we need Walker and, if possible McLean. We need to get 3 or 4 Pre Season games at Ibrox this month, match practice and much needed income, now we're out of Europe. PC is on a shoogly peg.

06 Jul 2017 16:30:09
After letting mckay go we need to bring Walker in for definite

06 Jul 2017 12:58:41
Far too many people on here on a hunt for Caixinha's head, like seriously nothing explains why we lost to a team we should have been beating with ease however people need to remember we have brought in a lot of fresh faces and the communication between the team may not be quite there yet and also some new players either weren't featured or got barely any time Pena has yet to be seen, Dorrans just came in so has yet to be seen, herrera played barely any time and i must say he looked like he could be a good quality player he started bossing there players, the team need some time to gel together and get playing the way Pedro wants us to play. I get the fact we have been through a hell of a lot these last few years and its rather frustrating however we need to give it time.

06 Jul 2017 13:32:36
You are right about Herrera = thought he looked promising and it does take time to gel, but striking the bar twice in the last ten minutes tells its own story. Where was that urgency
and desire at the start of the game? if we had battered them in the 1st 20 mins and scored they would have needed 3 goals. Instead, we played like one of Ally's teams = zero penetration, no bravery and f#@k all nous. We looked like we had no plan at all and that's what is most worrying. I think we could all do without watching any aimless, drifting, insipid performances this season: we at least want them to show
some f#@*ing appetite and look as tho they have the slightest clue as to what they are doing - over to you Pedro

06 Jul 2017 12:45:01
There's a lot of people suggesting Alves should replace Wallace as captain but at best he might only be here for 2/ 3 seasons .
I, m not saying replace Wallace but if we were would Jack not be a younger longer term solution he's done the job before.

06 Jul 2017 12:18:43
More of a reader than contributor guys, apologies if I'm running over dead ground but the need to rant is taking over.

Pedro - despite the other night I still believe he needs an opportunity to get the team working, magic bunnet and the snake had a miserable crack at it and jumped ship, but had plenty time to get it wrong - Pedro you're on borrowed time my friend but I'll support you, let's get this right!

Wallace - never a captain, great servant, love for the club. all the good stuff, just can't drive the team on the pitch and casually disappears when in a high profile game.

As for the rest only time will tell, I envisage the aerosol evaders will be chipping in with title stripping, just because our EBT's were better than theirs? Bitter, bitter people, more interested in the only show in town.

06 Jul 2017 10:05:31
The subject has again arose about the inability of Wallace as team captain. Rightly or wrongly.
Ed could you do a poll on who guys think should be Captain.

Wallace, Miller. Jack, Alves, others.
Many thanks

{Ed033's Note -

Rangers Captain Poll

06 Jul 2017 12:35:30
It can only really be Alves. Jack's too young and new to put any more pressure on his shoulders than he already has just playing for Rangers. Miller's value is as a goalscorer and he doesn't cut it out wide or dropping back into midfield and frankly if he's not first choice number 9 he shouldn't be starting. And if he is first choice at 38 this year then we're in big trouble. Kranjcar has captaincy written all over him but maybe not a 90 minute player.

06 Jul 2017 13:28:01
Jack is 25 and was the captain of the team that came 2nd in the league last year! Jack would be my vote

06 Jul 2017 14:53:50
Jordon rossiter only player to apologise for that farce on tuesday. Where was the captain? . That sums lee Wallace leadership on and off the park the fact that a boy like rossiter was facing the press instead of him.

06 Jul 2017 09:26:33
David Murray has to be held accountable for all the crap we have been through we did not know the state we were in untill it was to late . He jumped before the the bus crashed, he should have his knighthood stripped for all this crap . The blame lies with home.

06 Jul 2017 09:48:54
he was forced to sell by lloyds

06 Jul 2017 08:31:39
maybe our team will realish the chance just to concentrate on the leauge europe has changed so much since last time we where in smaller teams are a lot stronger now and signifinanant investestment is needed just to qualify
if we take title race rite down to wire it could be succesful season
But i do think pedro needs to take maxium points in his first 3 games anything less and it could be disatrous for his future as fans al ready are not happy and sure bout him
Thits hope he turns this round
as for signing anymore players i think we now have to go with what we have can not see anymore come in after dorrans

06 Jul 2017 07:46:16
Sit back and soak it up. Out of Europe to minnows. Tax case result prompts Celtic to stir up the old hate. Paddy Power poke fun at 'Death' of Rangers (That's their last penny) . What should we do? . Curl up and give up? . No chance!

I'll be 'Ready' come the first match and so should we all. These things are here to test us.

06 Jul 2017 09:41:04
Time for fans to stand up to the haters such as paddy power media outlets and clubs looking to strip titles. Boycot their product and stay well away from away matches. Hit them in the pocket it may well have had an impact with sports direct and never forget. I have my opinion about our manager but will always support my club.

06 Jul 2017 13:30:01
Paddy Power would never have a penny from me anyway just purely because of that name!

06 Jul 2017 14:56:42
I've said it for years. Don't go to any away games. These teams make more money from us than all the other teams put together. Starve them out. Simple!

06 Jul 2017 03:11:04
So with 4-5 weeks until start of Season do we think that we will arrange 2-3 friendlys at Ibrox? Who do you think we could get? i'm thinking that most teams will have already set up their pre-season schedule!
I really hope we organise something rather than see the team f-off abroad for a couple of weeks!
What I would really like to see is for us to invite say 3 teams to Ibrox for a mini tournament same as we did years ago with Newcastle Man. Utd and Sampdoria.
Surely this could be arranged even at such short notice. I would imagine that there would be enough Clubs of quality that would like to take part. If the Club could arrange something like this I would hope that they make sure ticket prices are at a decent price! What's your thoughts Bears? We're going to have to do something! And like I said seeing the team going abroad shouldn't be on the cards! Now that Europe is gone then give the Support something! And organising a mini Cup Tournament is something that I would like to see happen and why can't it happen?

06 Jul 2017 07:39:16
Can't see anyone of quality being able to squeeze in a quickly arranged tournament. If they did it would be their boy's team. Medium quality sides might be interested in a one off game. My fear is they would see it as a chance to give their forwards a bit of shooting practice.

06 Jul 2017 07:55:39
After Tuesday result 3 pub teams would do.

06 Jul 2017 14:57:12
Aye we should play round robin matches against the likes of Auchinleck and Pollok. Maybe a chance to win something lol

06 Jul 2017 02:52:12
Anybody else slightly worried that this HMRC Tax Case outcome will result in the SFA being pressured into stripping titles?

I have seen their short and sweet statement, but if I'm honest it doesn't fill me with confidence, everybody and their granny wants Rangers to suffer and I cannot see them letting this slip.

Quick note on last night, I'm always far too positive for my own good when it comes to the team and I am genuinely lost for words with this one. I can't believe it but at the same time I can, the result last night just had Rangers written all over it. Onwards and upwards as it's the only way we can go from here surely? 😂.

06 Jul 2017 08:25:32
I wonder how you all would feel if shoe was on the other foot and it was dermot Desmond in a witness box admitting they used Ebts to get in players they otherwise couldn't afford I always think when I see a contentious decision go get given against my club would I be screaming for the decision if the situation was reserved.

06 Jul 2017 08:38:01
Yeah I feel the same mate. Can't help but think that they are going to strip the titles. Sick to the back teeth of hearing about all the crap - what I would give to just have it about football.

Quite ironic how the people asking for the titles to be stripped, are ex-players that have invested in film schemes dodging tax

06 Jul 2017 10:22:04
Likewise sick of hearing about ebt's stripping titles and sporting integrity. Give them the sodding titles cups and medals and let them enjoy their so called glory. We will go on to win more so let's steal their thunder and put an end to it once and for all. But NEVER forget and one day they will come calling.

06 Jul 2017 11:29:36
Sick of hearing rubbish about etb's, unfair advantage and title stripping by Celtic who themselves USED etb's. The only reason they didn't get dragged into court is that they made a deal with hmrc in 2008 to settle but it still doesn't change the FACT that they used that scheme. The also never informed the FA or SFA and the reason it wasn't followed up on is that they paid out AFTER the player had LEFT the club.? .
What club would pay a player AFTER he had left?, why?, I could only surmise that there would have to have been an agreement in place while the player was still at the club for this to happen therefore I can't see any difference.
Celtic's only problem seems to be that they didn't win anything while using etb's so it doesn't count for them but we did so take away the titles.
I would like to apologise upfront if anyone is offended by the above rant but I just feel Celtic the club (not necessarily all it's supporters) are extracting the urine.

06 Jul 2017 12:23:55
Cajita the fact that celtic did use one ebt is correct however when their chairman the ex Bank of england guy found out he immediately cancelled it and settled all tax liability hence no further problems. that is when Rangers should have wisened up and maybe looked again at the financial advice they were given at the time and could have prevented all this litigation then. but Murray was so desperate to win the big euro cup at any cost he threw caution to the wind and ignored all the signs then. this could have been avoided if he had just paid the Ebt players through the club without trying to scalp the tax man. remember he himself received 6 million from an Ebt

06 Jul 2017 12:45:02
JohnnyG, Celtic never cancelled the etb (they had already paid out on it), what they did was make a deal with hmrc to pay the tax on it. As for advice, when Rangers were using them it wasn't illegal (it was a retrospective law that was brought in afterwards) . The issue is that neither Rangers or Celtic informed their respective footballing authorities of the use of them. This is why both are the same in principle and therefore if one is seen as cheating then both are, you can't have the argument that one only cheated a little bit so doesn't count.

06 Jul 2017 14:50:05
Dont you worry brother, they won't be stripping anything. The jungle jims have always been the same always cheated never defeated. If they pursue us further the will have to spill the beans on every bit of these deals they played a part in, let's not forget it was from 2001 to 2009 and they managed to win the league a couple of times so it wasnt that unfair was it.

Titles and cups should be safe remember they wanted us to give up so many titles and cups and they would place us in the division below premier league we told them to get stuffed so they placed us in the lowest league they could we have already been punished they cannot have their cake and eat it tell lawell to get knotted.

Wrong as usual. You will note the actual tax pros/ tribunal agreed with rangers advice and Celtic were pulled up by homecoming and threatened with legal action which was to close to their own private bankruptcy. As per usual only part of the truth from the mob.

Aye cajita this is the way i understand it and it is for this reason that the football authorities cannot take any action against one club without implicating the other. They did not inform the SFA either of the side letters. Maybe the beggars should just suck it up now. They won't of course, but they should. Always cheated etc etc

Barjonas was supposed to be included in the squad for Europe but was dropped and fined two weeks wages for disobeying instructions and going out drinking in Hong Kong while the tournament was on. Not sure if he would have played or not anyway.

nonsense

I still believe we missed out big time with Callum Paterson
We probably should be adding another Scottish player like Jamie Walker as he is a proven winger in the SPL chipping in with a few goals There just no saying whether Candeias will cut it and I certainly can't see Dalcio being a great player! Barrie McKay being sold must force the hand for a decent replacement winger

We need a left back as a greater priority than a right back although I grant you that we could do with finding a quality replacement for both wing back / full back positions. Unfortunately Wallace is a disaster as a leader, never a captain in a million years and a pretty poor defender into the bargain. let's prioritise a left back and if needs be give Hodson a run at right back. Wallace is a liability. He goes into hiding when the chips are down when he should be rallying the troops and leading by example.

06 Jul 2017 08:34:52
I don't think we should replace Wallace. He is a bad captain but he is a good left back, just off form. Another left back would also stop the development of Beerman. I would look to take captaincy away from Wallace as this may take pressure off and hopefully lift him. If not give Beerman a run.
I've said it before but it's Hodson we should replace. He can't shift Tav so he is a waste of space.

This to me has a similar feel to the 2008 2009 season when we were nocked out of Europe in July against that team from Lithuania the team that night looked sloppy lazy and unfit and had no creativity at all but I also remember after that we signed Davis on a permanent deal and brought in Pedro mendes kenny miller and majid bougera and ended up having a good season and winning the league so the impact 4 quality players can make is huge and remember we still have thevlikes of Alves dorrens penna and Herrera to come in and hopefully with more game time are other new players can improve. I personally still think we can challenge Celtic this year.

Great post. It's good to see after everyone acting all doom and gloom. I think a couple of players like Alves and Dorrans will make a huge difference. I think we have the makings of a decent squad which we didn't have with Warburton but the only thing that concerns me is if Pedro will be clever enough to change tactics or formations when it isn't working.

After that embarrassment last night and and the new appointment of dof in Mark Allen due in on Monday what are everyone's thoughts on the season ahead? In regards to signings performances and relations between manager and dof.
Imo I'm expecting us to drop points to hibs hearts Aberdeen the manky mob and maybe St Johnston.

I don't think the blame can be laid at the feet of any player particularly from what I saw of the game. Although Rangers were expected to easily see off Progress I think, if any positives are to be taken from the game, that the Luxembourg team were not given the credit they deserved. They actually did look well organised at the back. Also Rangers were unlucky in the away tie hitting the post/ bar etc on several occasions. In respect of earlier post re captaincy I think the manager should waste no time in appointing Alves to the role. It might unload some of the pressure on Lee Wallace and allow him to turn into the decent player we know he can be. Hopefully Danny Wilson will also benefit from Alves's experience. Add Dorrans and another midfielder, plus improving the fitness of the squad will hopefully lead to better results.

Alves should be given the captains armband but I doubt that will have a positive impact on Wallace defensively. He is good going forward but he is a very poor defender.
