Had a chat with an ex player yesterday. no juicy information to share, but he did give his take on what's happening at ibrox at the moment. He reckons pedro is up against a fair bit of resistance, primarily from the British players. He reckons pedro is trying to improve the players on a tactical level and that most of his sessions are based on this. The problem he faces is that british players have never been trained this way and consequently dismiss his ideas through ignorance. He used the example of oliver burke going to leipzig, blessed with all the talent and physical attributes you could ask for. Hardly started a game and got punted to west brom with the leipzig coach saying he was completely unable/ unwilling to take complex tactical instruction. The ex player reckons the underachievement of British nations over the years and of British clubs in Europe given their budget, is down to the lack of time spent educating our players on tactics. Compare windass and the Portuguese winger. windass probably more talented but most of us would probably be more comfortable relying on the Portuguese. Fascinating take on things. For the record, he reckoned Pedro would lose his job at some point as the task of changing the whole culture of a nation would be too great a task.

Wilson, Good post. Could easily believe that.

08 Sep 2017 02:27:16
Pedro Caixinha sounds like a smart guy maybe he is but when your trying to teach tactics to players like josh windsass and wow rangers tv on the spot tells you everything about him lol not saying every British player is a dumb **** but when you compare the likes of america with there fancy soccer scholarships and Germans national team has every squad player with A+ qualifications, just not enough intelligent British players am afraid for tactics even micheal owen can't even make a cup of tea!

08 Sep 2017 07:13:42
If i remember rightly i think Wenger had the same problem at Arsenal trying to implicate things like tactics, nutrition etc but stuck to his ways, got some French players in and the English based players eventually bought into it aswell and it paid off for him.

08 Sep 2017 11:02:59
I like the European philosophy however I reckon it only really works with top end players. A player who relies on grafting cannot be coached this way, unfortunately I'm not sure we have the skilled players who fit this style. Maybe in time but will his methods be given time?

08 Sep 2017 12:33:41
this type of change takes longer than some rangers fans are willing to wait but i would prefer to give the guy this season to start making us look better with the chance of getting europe next year and maybe more money to spend on players that can listen to his tactics and see them through. this board for me hasn't done anything wrong and has only tried to help us as a club since they took over and i trust they are doing the same with pedro trying to help us be a better team than we where last season

08 Sep 2017 19:40:00
It all starts at grass root levels. Kids learn quickly and if the right youth development it implemented at an early stage. And continued through the players development then any tactical approach should be absorbed and delivered on the pitch.

How can Levein say Gers let Jamie Walker down? Hearts rejected the bid in the first place. They let the boy down. This tells me Hearts are kicking themselves for not trying to play hardball.

Good on our board for making them regret it! Too many teams trying to stick it to us and force extra money out of us. Hopefully this will send a message to other Scottish teams who might try the same.

07 Sep 2017 22:55:58
Levein has made a comment which he knew fine well the Scottish media would jump on. He's trying to attract new suitors to take Walker south of the border, rather than see him ply his trade at Ibrox next season, knowing he will leave for free. I hope Walker isn't thick enough to take note of what the childish upstart is saying. Sour grapes on his behalf. I do think there will be higher wages offered elsewhere for Walker come January now, so it will be interesting to see how much he wants to become a Ranger. Either way it's out of Hearts control now, a fact that will infuriate the national managerial failure.

07 Sep 2017 23:04:00
until a price is agreed with the club who holds his registration, then we are not even allowed to speak to walker

unless of course hearts granted us permission to talk to him . again without a few being agreed

hmm sounds like equal doses of bull and sour grapes from levein

08 Sep 2017 07:16:29
At least Pedro is showing abit of integrity in this instance as he keeps quiet when asked abt Walker, whereas we have Levein saying we broke promises to the player. Does that mean we were tapping him up?

08 Sep 2017 12:36:52
levein will aways be remembered as the man who didn't even field a striker for scotland that famous 4-6-0

07 Sep 2017 19:51:56
Anyone who's not seen Beermand goal the other day for Malta U21 is missing a worldie, what was interesting was he was wearing number 11 and on the left which would tell me he was playing left wing not wing back, he looks class in this position frim what I've seen and the times he got foreward for our 1st team last year.

07 Sep 2017 21:50:02
just take into account its one goal, for the u21 of one of the bottom three international teams in europe. took the goal well but let's not get carried away

This whole thing with MOH and PC is getting on my nerves. PC never skated him. He stated 'He's not my type of player' which is completely different.

Anyway, being in form while out on loan is actually a good thing. He could be in Form for us and help to win games we should probably be winning anyway without him (whether we do is another point) . Or he could be playing well for another team, taking points off our rivals and then can't play against us effectively weakening St Johnstone and helping us get the win against them.

He had ample opportunity while here to enhance our performance and didn't so to send him out on loan where he's hit a bit if decent form (I don't think it'll last) is a decent way of helping us as stated above.

07 Sep 2017 12:52:01
if he's playing well and scoring regularly it should also increase his value if it comes to selling him on

07 Sep 2017 13:53:37
The tabloid media are quick to miss quote PC. It's their party piece. A lot of the things they have printed on what he has said are total misquotes or misconceptions. Putting 2 and 2 together to come out with whatever they feel like. You can still listen to the interviews about MOH being loaned on Youtube. At no point in the interview does PC slate O'Halloran nor does he rule out him coming back.

I for one wouldn't have liked MOH to stay because the effort he displayed was very poor. He couldn't even be bothered making the run to link up half the time. So playing him out of position talk is rubbish. His commitment was pathetic. It's up to him to make it right, not PC's fault he never produced the first time.

07 Sep 2017 15:22:49
I listened to his interview. He clearly replies "No" when asked if there is a chance he could come back.

He slates him as well, don't remember exact wording but along the lines of not good enough / not type of player rangers need.

The press have purposely misrepresented him in the past and will do so in future but on this one Pedro was in the wrong,

07 Sep 2017 19:43:40
But you can't remember the exact wording Durrrrrrrrrrr !

08 Sep 2017 12:41:57
naw mate u can't correct people if u don't know what he said.
he said no when asked if he would be back at ibrox yes but stated that's because he isn't the type of player he sees at rangers and he is the manager and it happens all the time that a player and manager don't get on or don't have the same philosophy and maybe MOH is too stupid to understand technical tactical changes to the way he plays

07 Sep 2017 12:24:49
i see MOH says Pedro was difficult to understand, hear hear, the man talks in riddles all the time.
Also i see Pedro has kicked up a relationship with Mexican outfit Chivas, i hope his intentions are to send back the two impostors to their own country.

07 Sep 2017 13:04:59
ritchie give the guys a chance thay have hardly had game time

07 Sep 2017 15:52:56
Peds11, they've hardly had game time is a true statement. If I were a professional footballer sold for a million or two quid, I'd be damn sure I was fit and ready to play. Football is football worldwide, okay it's faster and more aggressive here than in Mexico no doubt but all this molly coddling, let them settle in, let them gel with the squad is hogwash and time we can't afford. Walker and McLean at half the price wouldn't have needed the excuses.

07 Sep 2017 18:18:30
South American's do generally need a bit of time to adapt to our game.

You hardly get any time on the ball and the way teams set up against us doesn't help that much either.

Hope they come good, but its far too early to be judging them guys.

The big man got his first goal, that might give him a bit of confidence now.

07 Sep 2017 23:02:06
To say pena isn't fit is quite simply not true. He has been kept back as he has struggled to get to grips with the 100 mile an hour nature of the game in this country. Apparently wanting too much time on the ball even in training. TBF the game here is unlike pretty much any other nation. It's essentially a tactically void kick and chase game. Understandable that pedro wants to wait till he has acclimatised before subjecting him to our pretty unforgiving fans. Plenty of whom would have him written off as an imposter after a couple of bad games.

08 Sep 2017 12:46:37
kfrazer i take it u want us to be winning the league this year.
it won't happen and that not the players or managers fault its just too much to ask for a team to gel well enough in its first season especially when we aren't spending 7-8 million on each player.
these players are cheap and even at a couple of million its not record breaking stuff.
give them time and its not hogwash these guys do need time and will gell after a while

07 Sep 2017 11:53:47
Andy, I'd rather Rossiter got some game time ahead of the Celtic game. I'd play Rossiter and Jack and put Dorrans right on top of Broony when we don't have the ball. Morelos up front and either windass or miller left midfield. I would like to see Beerman left midfield as I hear he has had a good start to the season in the U 20s. Pena and Niko are too slow at the minute for old firm game.

07 Sep 2017 13:06:55
i like your thinking
cover for the defence with two cdms and dorrans showing brooney he is mince

07 Sep 2017 13:19:48
Agree OP. If Rossiter is fit why not start him. He is obviously a potential star player and we could do with his class and yes, Pena and Niko are too risky for this fixture.

07 Sep 2017 15:25:12
Don't get this hype around Rossiter. He's been fairly average at best every time he's played. Nothing special for me.

08 Sep 2017 12:47:48
tallent spotter campbell at it again

07 Sep 2017 08:18:44
Keep reading on various sites about how suspect Celtic defence is and wonder where people get this notion.

League. Celtic score 8 concede 2
Rangers score 7 concede 5

League cup Celtic score 5 concede 0
Rangers score 6 concede 0

Europe. Celtic score 13 concede 4
Rangers score 1 concede 2
This with a makeshift team of 2 boys and a mid playing in this dodgy defence.

07 Sep 2017 09:04:46
how is this relevant?

07 Sep 2017 09:38:55
It's relevant because some fans believe the myth that there defence is dodgy and can be got about with pressure. all I am saying is yes in Europe against really good teams and the makeshift defence due to injuries they are vulnerable but some fans still maintain they are rubbish defensively and the figures above sort of dispell that myth. also last season with basically the same team domestically they outscored every other team had the best defence record won an undefeated treble even the league cup without conceding a goal. in Europe yes they will be destroyed and prob embarrassed but against psg and Bayern what Scottish team wouldn't. all I am saying saying they are average only makes some on hear feel good not that it is necessary true

07 Sep 2017 10:22:46
Think st Johnstone manager gets best out of o halloran maybe if we had a real manager o halloran would be better player

07 Sep 2017 10:42:08
Not conceding a lot of goals doesn't purely come down to having a good defence it also helps when the whole team press high up the park which they do well in all areas. if any team in the world stand off and allow crosses to come into the box there bound to concede at least once as its the hardest thing to defend when a balls whipped into the box and you have 5 guys running towards the goal. I've seen Barca, Real etc all lose goals from set plays but not often because the very rarely let opponents get crosses over

07 Sep 2017 13:13:25
johnny g i take it your a stats man?
this isn't fifa!
if u watch their games their weakest part of their team is defence but that is because celtic are never under pressure in the spl.
thats why those stats state that and not to do with actual defending .

suggestion; try actually watching football

07 Sep 2017 14:30:37
Peds, sorry to keep disagreeing and replying to your post, but you do talk some crap.
Everyone knows the defence is the worst part of their team, but it was still well capable of dealing with anything the SPFL threw at them, as you state yourself. Therefore, you would have to agree that the problem is not with their defence, but with the quality of attack in the teams they need to complete against to win the league, i. e. SPFL.

07 Sep 2017 14:31:15
Pedsl1 I do watch football and don't know anything about fifa ( too old for games) it is irrelevant regarding teams putting pressure on in Scotland the point I was trying to make was some on here and other sites like to claim they are pish they are average they have a poor defence they are lucky. well they play the same teams as we do but seem to perform so much better. it is people that believe these claims. all I am saying you can't go 53 games ( domestically ) undefeated if you are pish, average poor defensively or lucky. and people are deluding themselves thinking they have all these faults. only trying to be realistic and remember they still have their first choice defenders and striker to come back from injury. how do you think we would fair with first 2 choices of defenders and top striker unavailable since beginning of season?

07 Sep 2017 15:29:57
Ridiculous post. Absolutely nonsensical.

You're talking about their defence and include goals scored. Why?

You've also bizarrely posted rangers goals scored and against.

Are you trying to show they've had a better start to the season? We all know that they have since they've got more points,

That you wasted so much time writing this makes me laugh though. I can only assume you're trolling.
