Celtic fan here waiting to be shot down......without sounding too paranoid about the Scottish press but surely the "good news" story about mike Ashley wanting to become a major shareholder just as ally tries the rallying call for more season ticket sales has one major flaw......is it not against footballing laws to be a major shareholder in two clubs?

Jd

Believable12 Unbelievable12

He only wants to buy a 10% stake, which not make him a major shareholder, so it is fine for him to do. I thought the same at first but it was confirmed 10% is ok.

Agree5 Disagree4

Well many of the SPL mad SFL directors held shares in RFC Plc and it didn't seem to bother anyone.

I think you will find you can't have a controliing shareholding in more than one club.

Agree1 Disagree4

Long as its not more than 12%

Agree3 Disagree4

Do you not think they would have checked that out?

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Celtic & Rangers had shares in each other at one time
not a problem as a minority holding

bil72

Agree2 Disagree1

10% is a major shareholding and entitles you to a place on the board.

Rangers and Newcastle actually, in theory share European competition. Although Rangers don't qualify for Europe until the amass 3 years of football history and certified accounts.
There is a clear conflict of interest.

Agree2 Disagree1

@6 not happy with us dropping to div 3 now you worry about where our financial backing might be coming from.poor mike ashley will now be a victim of the timmy internet investigators trying to dig up the dirt.mark daley has probably started scripting his next big bbc exspose....

Agree19 Disagree7

Oldco Rangers did the same the last few years with their best players. Now NewCo's biggest signing is a guy from 6th place St Johnstone, and their fans are slagging this Motherwell team that has achieved the same as oldco.

Agree12 Disagree4

For a set of supporters who's rally cry is f*ck everybody else in Scottish football from spl clubs to the national team they sure are obsessed by how we are all getting on or how we will get on in Europe.

Briggs

Agree10 Disagree5

We were getting slagged of aberdeen fans ..aberdeen i ask you so we got it in the neck when we struggled so man up sh@t teams in scotland were watchin were laughing just like you did ...les

Agree7 Disagree4

Jog on eh... the performance was dire, but you cant blame a manager who keeps building a successful team each season, where we are consistently losing players to bigger and better clubs. ans rangers haven't exactly set the European heather alight of late.. what is it.. one win in 23.

Really gope United draw you bhoys in cup, then we'll find out who are the people!

Agree1 Disagree2

A bit of schadenfreude - Tam Cowan & the like, have been slagging Rangers of for years - when the only time they saw Europe was on holiday - give us a wee bit chance to fire some back now.
The results from the 'well & the farmers was embarrasing - CFC eventually beat a team they should have Finished ;-) in glasgow & resorting to complaining about the pitch (same as was used in the Euros by the way) was again embarrasing.
Anybody who thinks different is deluded.
But then again this is Scottieland

When are we going to have a serious discussion about the massive information vacuum surrounding Mr Green's investors, his financial plan for the new club, whether or not ticketus are still involved and how sustainable his plans are? These are the real questions needing to be answered, not 'who can help us trash third division teams'.

Believable12 Unbelievable6

Great point from someone not blinded by Greens verbal charm offensive.Digs at celtic dont matter at the moment, digs at the SFA/SPL dont matter.Still far too much hidden.

Agree12 Disagree0

Bomber brown needs to go public with what green told him. The news that would have us all rioting. We just need to know the truth please. We deserve it. It's our money your feasting off.

Agree14 Disagree1

Why would Green want to tell us anything. Even if he did few would believe him.

Agree2 Disagree5

I'm told reliably we've sold around 25,000 season tickets so Bomber's plans to 'starve Green out' haven't been a huge success, have they?

As for Green why not tell us exactly who owns Ibrox, Albion & Auchenhowie?

Personally I think Ticketus still are involved in some way. And possibly others who I might have a big problem with.

Surely the crowds that have turned out in great numbers following Rangers so far this season giving the team excellent backing have a right to know?

if goian+bocanegra want to leave then would we not be entitled to a transfer fee because they have played for rangers newco. which mean there contracts have been transfered. am i right.

Believable12 Unbelievable2

Unless a secret deal for a cut price fee has been made.Too much hidden for me.

Agree5 Disagree0

Yes they can leave for the fee they agreed in the wage cut deal, if Green goes back on that then they can sue for loss of earnings and breach of contract and as a major creditor they would be able to put the newco into administration and liquidate the new company.

Agree6 Disagree1

Ha ha last post, you need to take your medication son, Rangers won't be hard to deal with, they knew that some players would want to leave but the said players were happy to come over knowing that Rangers would get a fee if they left, so they will leave with the best wishes of the club and fans

@3 neither you should care what the champions are doing in europe, you've got more important things like which trawler your going to jump on to drag your sorry a*** up to Peterhead on saturday........Stevie

Agree12 Disagree7

Do you own a fishing boat Stevie? The reason I ask is you have used that line all week and it is starting to sound as though you are trying to drum up business. Good luck with your endeavours if you do (never travelled the M90 on a boat before so it would certainly be an interesting trip, lol), otherwise you need to find some new material.

Poster three may not care what Celtic is doing in Europe and the SPL (personally I don't either currently) but why do you care so much about a team you won't even be playing for the next few years? Both clubs (and their fans) should return to concentrating on the football.

Brian

p.s. Admittedly it was funny the first time you said it. ;-)

I personally think it is disgraceful that Edu and Bedoya are taking wages from Rangers but have no intention of staying . These guys need to move on as quick as possible. I should add that Bedoya has been taking wages for some time and has done nothing to warrent them - not good enough. Obviosly no one wants them but they feel they are too good for the third division

Believable16 Unbelievable5

It's called contractual law my friend and The Rangers has to abide with that. Or do u think u r above contractual law.
Both players are too good for the third div incidentally.

Agree5 Disagree10

Contractual law it maybe but how about having a conscience and consideration for the club thats paid their wages for the last couple of years especially Bedoya who is rank rotten and has been getting paid £16000 for sitting on the bench

Agree5 Disagree4

Maybe there's three or four thousand of a kickback on these guys wages each week and for every week they are there somebody inside Rangers gets their end?

Agree2 Disagree0

A conscience? are u having a laff! try asking that to the 270+ creditors you left in your wake and Green then coming out with the "better P&L at end of season" Stevo

Agree5 Disagree2

@2, humorous, very humorous. Obviously guided in conscience by Rangers (RIP), and the way they have put innocent small businesses to the wall and the tax dodging meaning less money, for example, for hospitals and medical staff. Gee yir heid a shack min

Agree2 Disagree0

Stevo. No Rangers fan was happy about the situation with the creditors. Whenever a business goes under there are always people who lose out financially. That is life unfortunately. However, as every Celtic fan that comes on here will tell you we are now a new club with new owners and as such have no legal or moral connection to the misdemeanours of the Oldco (unless of course you are saying we aren't and still retain our history etc - that will be a first if you are).

The point poster 2 was making is that it must be wrong for players to receive payment of their wages and point blank refuse to play for the team. Unless I am mistaken that exact behaviour is what led Tevez to be suspended indefinitely without pay (as well as going awol). What about contractual law in that instance? The poster has raised a valid point and dredging up the creditors again is not constructively answering the question he set. What would your response be if Hooper and Ledley suddenly decided they weren't in the mood and refused to pull on the shirt apart from in European competition because playing in the SPL was beneath them? Would you want them to continue being handsomely paid each week or would you want something done about it?

Brian

p.s. I have been a creditor in a liquidation event so I also know from personal experience how it feels for those INVOLVED in the process. It isn't a pleasant feeling, I can assure you. It is time to move on however. The creditors will have already, just as I did.

Just reading on BBC that Jimmy Bullard is very much on the peripheral of the Ipswich squad. If he became available (not saying that it would ever happen) but might be worth a shot to help provide some squad depth especially if Edu and Bedoya appear to be on the road out.

Hi Bears - just banter on team selection but also highlighting where I think we're still weak.

First of all, I'd sell/release the following players - Broadfoot, Edu, Goian and Bedoya. Some have stated their intention to leave and others in my opinion, don't fit the team I would want to field.

So that said, for League matches - 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1 formation:

1. Alexander

2. TBA - We need a Right Back. Robbie Neilson would do me for the next 2 seasons. Ideally Tom Hately from Motherwell but for a safe pair of hands Neilson would be fine and a far, far better option than Broadfoot or Cole.

4. Cribari
5. Bocanegara
3. Wallace

8. Black
6. McCulloch
10. Hutton

7. Shiels
9. Sendaza
11. Little

When playing away from home, I would be inclined to drop Little or Sendaza and play big Kyle to rough up the defences. Even with the big man's injury history, hopefully he'd be good for at least 18 games a season, playing approx. every second week.

For Cup matches - and depending on opposition - I'd go 4-4-2 dropping Little and bringing in a right-sided creative midfielder / winger.

So as far as the First Team is concerned - assuming Bocanegra stays - I think we're 2 players short. Both right flank - Right Back and Outside Right (Creative Midfielder)

With regards the squad, we have cover in goals and defence in the shape of Gallagher, Perry and Mitchell...up-front, Kyle and Kai Naismith. Bear in mind McCulloch can also provide cover throughout defence, midfield and as a forward.

Midfield is however still very weak. We need a couple of journeymen to fill in here - ideally offensive players given the midfield trio of McCulloch, Hutton and Black are predominantly defensive midfielders. Jouneymen will also support the potential of young Lewis and Barrie who I still think need a season or two under their belt before we could rely upon them as first team squad members.

So if this was my "dream team", I'd suggest we are still a minimum of 4 players short for a squad that remember bears, needs to see us through the next TWO seasons.

Thoughts?

SPM

Believable5 Unbelievable8

As much as I'd like boca to stay he can't for his own career he's got a world cup in two years and playing 3rd division football would stop him doing so, p.s. proves mo edu is gash no firm offers and no real surprise to me he's do.e nothing in two years.

What about young Barrie McKay, was easily one of our best players on the park against east fife. I'd defo be playing him more.

Just a question I have - Barry Ferguson is obviously on the slide down the ranks, but still an excellent midfielder. Is there any chance that he could return (having left under a poorer circumstances than he would have liked). Team up with Jig - surely he'll want to eventually arrive back "home" and give something back to the team he loves at wlowish wages? As I say just a wee thought I have in the back of my mind.

Believable6 Unbelievable16

Might be a bit awkward for Barry since he seems to be one of the biggest EBT beneficiaries

I dont know why there is so much fuss about RFC signing five players on £7K. That amounts to £1.8M per year.

RCF have sold 21000 season tickets at an average of £275 should have brought in about £5.5M plus last nights game minus costs and East Fifes cut probably added another £200K. We are nearly at £6M in a couple of weeks.

From the fans, I think another 10000 season tickets will be sold, a few thousand tickets per home game and home cup ties should give another £5M (conservative estimate)

TV money, strip sales, hospitality and other revenues will give RFC a decent turnover. Easily treble that of most of the sporting integrity brigade.

I do think the new owners will need to throw in a few quid over the next few years but given that they are loaning RFC the money then I am sure they will work their a@se off to get their money back plus interest while keeping an eye on resale value / share issue.

Plus enjoyed the game last night - walking into the Govan Rear while Bob Marley sang "dont worry about a thing cause every little thing gonna be alright" was amazing although walking into Ibrox is always f*cking brilliant

Believable20 Unbelievable8

What next at Ibrox - Simple Minds and Rod Stewart songs playing?

Agree6 Disagree4

Uuuhm. hate to burst your bubble, but running a football club needs a bit more than ticket sales and a few shirts. Celtic just got 2.1 million Euros from Uefa for winning last nights game. More to follow from Uefa. Rangers DONT have a revenue stream that can support us. We are screwed and deluded, Green is no saviour, just the opposite. a carpetbagger.

Agree6 Disagree6

A lot of season tickets are for kids they're only 70 quid plus pensioners r cheaper aswell

Agree4 Disagree2

Arithmetic not your strong point or do you not intend paying NIC and VAT. Green would love to have you as his Finance Director.

Agree3 Disagree3

You seem to be taking the easy approach. On salaries, there is NI contributions to be added. On income there is VAT and tax to be deducted. Dont forget the rates and taxes for Ibrox and Murray park.

Agree3 Disagree2

Rangers isn't a going concern with 200 employees and all the overheads. Everyone knows it, Green said he would make deep staffing cuts twice then he went quiet on it. Did his real boss who is pushing in the money tell him to shuttit?
Rumour that it really Jim McCall behind Green and the approach with Walter was a ruse!

Agree3 Disagree3

My arithmetic are fine - my point is there is a decent revenue for a third division club.

Many millions have been shaved of the wage bill with players leaving. Therefore, the NI & PAYE (employee & employer) contributions will reduce proportionally.

Whittakers wages were about £22K that plus the contributions towards NI & PAYE has been saved. Plus the new players don't cost that much more.

Plus, when does anyone talk about a players wages then think how much NI and PAYE will we have to pay ya pie.

However, on a positive note they will get us an extended cup run (pumping Falkirk in both cups is looking good). They cost nothing too.

I think you doom and gloom merchants are from the dark side and you are sick we are not dead. Here some more arithmetic for the manky mob. RFC pulled 45.43% of the opening attendance of the SPL in the first round of the cup.

Agree3 Disagree3

Maybe a decent revenue for a div 3 club However higher overheads and higher debts, doesn't bode well

Oh so your team is scottish then, dont recall seeng to many saltires waved at parkhead over the last few years.

Agree9 Disagree5

Post this on your own site and prove you dont have an inferiority complex

Agree4 Disagree6

Beating a team from Finland restores pride in three national game in Scotland ur easily pleased & I'm sure fellow bears will join me in saying I hope u get pumped in the next round

Agree4 Disagree10

Wait till you meet a half decent team

Agree6 Disagree7

Loved to see all the scottish flags in the crowd last night the lovely green white and orange oh sorry the scottish flag is blue and white, pride of scotland aye right we are and always will be scotlands first love glasgow rangers

Agree7 Disagree6

Are you sniffing glue? It was Helsinki you were playing not barca.

Agree6 Disagree8

Ha ha ha. Will you be back on when you get pumped into the Europa?

Agree4 Disagree7

I remember the days when you won the European Cup .... Now your SO chuffed to defeat a 10th rate Finnish team .... Some of which are part-time and require a plastic pitch to make some money when is not match days ..... Glad you lowered your horizons though

Agree5 Disagree7

Pride of Scottish Football? Irish flags everywhere.

Agree6 Disagree4

Yeah on a par with east fife

Agree2 Disagree2

I'd be interested in seing how Celtic do against Maribor, who got a good result last night and who I still can't beleive knocked us out last year.

Opinions?

Agree2 Disagree0

ERR,like Malmo and Maribor?

Agree6 Disagree2

How the tide has turned - most Rangers fans on here were saying Helsinki would beat Celtic.

Agree8 Disagree2

@13: not many Scottish flags at Ibrox.

Agree7 Disagree4

@18 you clearly have never been. Ibrox is full of blue and white and the lion rampant. Yeah the union flag is there too, The Gers are internationally supported, but we were, remain and always will be Scotlands pride.

In paper tday super ally even admitting we need more players just as i argued last night about and would u say as u had to point out as a so called season ticket holder got 21 yrs that the gaffer doesnt know what he is doing u are so deluded if u think losing 23 players and buying 5 is more than enough even mccoist quoted that tday so ed just remember before ur sarcastic replies that other ppl have valid opinions and know what we are talking about

Believable21 Unbelievable24

Name me one manager in history who doesn't want/has refused more players? "Ally said it, it must be true" isn't quite validation.

Agree4 Disagree4

What about the wage bill? Running costs have not dropped apart from some big earners leaving.Only 200k BEFORE taxes banked fro the East Fife game shows the scale of managing the finance

Agree1 Disagree0

I take it you're the nugget who went apopleptic when the ed had a bit banter with ye on the rumours page? Pretty sure I seen an anger management ad on here somewhere. Keep your eyes peeled for it you need it.

Rangers1

Agree4 Disagree3

Yes we need new players but not 10! your deluded pal think your just panicing because of all the top quality players we have lost, CALM DOWN! ITS DIVISION 3, the team we have right now would comfortably win the 3rd div, i agree we need more players but only about 5 if that I mean open your eyes man!

Agree5 Disagree0

To be fair, you don't have to be a Season Ticket holder to know McCoist doesn't know what he's doing. I think the ED had a valid point - he didn't say you didn't need players, he said you should bleed in youth. If you need to sign that many new players, then off cut it by selling Murray Park - apparently it's not needed. The Patient

Agree5 Disagree2

Who got 21 years ? Surey not Craig Whyte ?

Agree2 Disagree0

This is why we love football, we all have our own opinions (a subjective belief) and many times we are neither right or wrong but somewhere between, this site wouldn't function without the hard work the editors put in.
Saying that I believe we do need more players, but after the last few months we are just a little concerned that we dont slide backwords again.Marz

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed was simply pointing out the fact that we didnt need 10 players and so was I, dont think McCoist will bring in 10 he will sell Edu & Bedoya & bring in 4 or 5 maybe sarcasm & common sense are very different things

Agree0 Disagree0

Ally will keep saying it , and when it goes tits up he will blame the lack of activity in the transfer market . you could read it like a book

Agree2 Disagree1

OK mate.Don't get excited. No one's questioning your right to an opinion.Whether you've had a season ticket for 21 yrs or 1 yr,everyone is entitled to an opinion. That's why we love this site, don't we Ed?Calm down, calm down!

Panathanaikos 3 Murderedwell 0 , not great for coefficient

Believable24 Unbelievable14

Yup on a par with Rangers of the past three seasons, poor show chaps!

Agree11 Disagree9

I really font know were your going with this argument, rangers or Celtic would get pumped off that Greek team.

Agree1 Disagree7

Not sure what your point is other than spite. Scottish football is in a better position than it was at this time last season when our only representative in the Champions League were put out.
Al

Agree7 Disagree3

Can't Imagine THE Rangers would have done any better . However we'll never know will we?

Agree8 Disagree2

Panathanikos (excuse spelling) are a better calibre of team to the opposition who put the famous glasgow rangers out last year, do you really think the rangers tribute act currently plying their trade in sfl3 would have done any better........dont think so wont be long until the novelty wears off and the newco are looking at 3 years in the wilderness while teams like motherwell are taking thier place in european competitions, regardless of how far they get at least they are in there and their fans have something to look forward to, unlike the newco,,,,,,,how many rangers fans does it take to change a lightbulb-----10,,, 1 to change it and 9 others to insist its the same lightbulb

Agree5 Disagree5

Pity your Ramsden Cup run doesn't count.

Agree8 Disagree1

Ach dont worry, its not your problem for at least 3 years.

Agree7 Disagree1

True, but Celtic winning 2-0 is though!

Agree8 Disagree3

Yeah, our co-efficients really missing Rangers 1 win in over 4 years. Love the way you are gloating over something so negative, shows the type of people you are.

Anyway, Celtic won home and away in a CL qualifier. Oh and Stevie Naismith scored a hat-trick for his new club. (Legend-you must have got a few quid for him seeing as you are still the same club!) See that's more positive.

Just wanted to say well done to Celtic
for progressing in Champions League
also Motherwell are drawing at ht.
If both results stay like that Scotland
pick up more coefficient points.

Believable41 Unbelievable40

I wanted them both pumped....just as they would us.
If you want your greatest rivals to do well, you are not a real fan.
That's what rivalry is all about, so f*** the co-efficient.

Agree11 Disagree9

Weve been picking them up for years and it never makes a difference ... scottish football is balls

Agree5 Disagree3

To all the press 'disagree' folk---- why?spite, bitterness, envy?Let's give praise where praise is due----doesn't happen often in our country, we get the chance to celebrate---even if it's our neighbour, rivals success.Well done to all teams involved.

Agree7 Disagree7

@3 you ask why spite, bitterness,? are you having a fN laugh
