We have lost a good young player, Hamburg only sign decent players, why couldn't we offer the lad a decent contract instead of paying a fortune in wages to players who can't even get in the squad or have been sent out on loan. from what I understand the lad wasnt even demanding extortionate money,

Very poor business from the club not to offer Bates an acceptable deal. He clearly has his critics particularly regarding his distribution but he's ony 21 and that could have been worked on surely. Till he got injured he was far more solid and reliable than Cardoso, Martin and Alves (which he shouldn't be but was. Down to Mark Allen, I presume, he must have somebody (s, ) good lined up for central defence for next season because I wouldn't keep any of the other three.

Think it’s sad, big Bates is away to the 2nd division in Germany next season? A player who was getting better with time and I am sure would have done us a job for many years! Disappointing that he’s going but have no idea what has gone on behind the scenes? Has he been offered silly money to go? Have we made a mess of things? Has he been tempted by the quality of life in Germany v Scotland? Who knows. No one is bigger than the club and we move on. Good luck to him and I hope he does really well.

Letting Bates go is a mistake, and smacks of arrogance from those in charge (We don't need you son) If he wanted to go, fair enough. If its about money, fine. But surely he was shaping up to be a decent defender, and I bet we end up spending double to fill the gap.

Irfcrb1872 your bang on the money, it must be a generation thing. People on supporting Murty and defending players like Morelos who are very average. The young gen have been watching so much dross on and off the field for the last 6 years that expectations and standards aren’t as they once were. The reality is that unfortunately Celtic will more than likely win 10 in a row so long as our club continues to struggle on and off the park. Rangers are not the big club they once were and that is reflected by david Bates and Danny Wilson leaving as well as Derek McInnes turning down the job!

Look gents at the end of the day Bates is gone and we need to look at next season. I know (Well in my opinion) Bates should have stayed but the powers above deem him unnecessary to our moving forward. Come Sunday I think Mr king and our board will have our next manager prepared for signing regardless of the outcome and I personally don't think Mr Murty will be there in the capacity he holds just now. I also think there will be 8-10 million spent on 2 or 3 players in the summer excluding existing loans that we have options for. and we must look at next season as ours because this season is gone except the cup.

We may have not even had a chat with the lad around the big table about a new contract. Wilson chased a contract for ages on the same terms as he was on and his chat at the big table never materialised. What confuses me is that Alves and Cardoso will be moving on hopefully. Martin should return to Norwich and we hardly have a Man Citeh bank account. Regardless of potential targets, nobody has signed. WTF is going on? Only the lad knows i guess. Good luck to you Batesy.

Nothing against big Bates but we need better defenders. A total revamp required. 82 goals lost in the last 71 league games are terrible stats and something we need to drastically reduce. Hopefully this means we are going to sort our defence out. Might be an unpopular opinion but I think we need a better standard of keeper than Wes aswell.

Albertz82 i think you are forgetting what we are at this period in time and not what we have been. We will always be Rangers. We need to understand and accept to live within our means. Run as a buisness not run as a house of cards that could collapse again at any moment just because fans like you demand it. I hate to use them as a buisness model but they have it all sorted. Make a fortune and spend very little. Find Players that make a profit on sell on fee's. We recruit players to try and beat them with no profitability or future sell on potential (El Buff) aside. We pay players big wages to under achieve. We have done for 6 years now. There is no money until season books clear the bank. Look at the embarassement of the Murphy deal. "Can we have him now but pay when for him when we have monay? " The deal almost fell through due to our financial situation. Best player I've seen at Ibrox in years aswell.

Why do we continue to blame the club every time a player decides to leave? We didn’t let him go, he chose to leave and all the best to the boy, but he’s hardly a first choice in a rangers jersey going forward. He’s served us well this season and shown defensive qualities especially in big games, but he sees his future elsewhere and as a club we need to see our future with higher calibre than young Bates. Mark Allan is building a squad to compete next season and we need to have faith in the bigger picture.
McCrorie, John, Murphy, Morelos and Windass (for sell on value) were the priorities to extend contracts - Bates not in that plan

Read in the papers that he wanted 7.5k but I'm thinking that McCrorie as probably signed a contract on less and they are not offering bates anymore than him.
Think about it this way he'd be one of the best paid players outside Rangers and Celtic in the league and as much as I like him he is not worth that at the moment, with only a few games under his belt.

Bates a good young player? You on hard stuff? He was a very average, Championship level grafter who showed no real skill whatsoever.
