I've just driven home from work where the story (rumour) from Ibrox was that Douglas Park was made Deputy Chairman after promising to personally fund a new manager's salary up to £2million a year. And there is no short list for the job, but Allen still wants Arteta while one former director has taken it upon himself to sound out Bilic.

I remember i said on here that Mark Allen was a waste of space! Everybody hit the disagree button. The whole DOF carry on is a complete nonsense We couldn't even find a DOF for long enough, much the same as the Manager position. Douglas Park is yet another dubious appointment. The lot of them from top to bottom can go as far as i am concerned.

If the director of football says that if the manager wants a player but he feels there is a player in the academy who in 18 months time can play in the first team then that’s the route we will go down. What manager in their right mind would work in that environment when he hasn’t got full control of first team affairs. I said this months ago as well and was mocked.

Most clubs are moving towards that kind of operation. Reckless spending by managers got us in this mess. A more controlled, long term approach might finally see home grown players making an impact in our team. Where are our Kieran Tierneys?

On their way to Hamburg!

Bates is nowhere near Tierney and never will be

This is where our youth players are failing, can anyone tell me who the last youth player was to make a long term impact on the team B Ferguson apart. Answer none. They get a fleeting glance, new manager comes in doesn't like them, get dropped then shipped out.

You seriously aren't comparing Bates to Tiernay WOW

Blueger, Hutton £9m, Adam £8m (not for us tho), McGregor to name a few

blueger69. Most of our youngsters haven't been given a chance over the last five or six years! Hardie and Burt are classic cases from the current crop. Bates was just breaking through and is now gone. McCrorie does have a lot of promise, given time. Also, Aiden Wilson, Barjonas, Atakaya? I recall McCoist didn't take any chances and signed duff has-beens rather than give the kids a chance. I've been mocked on here before about Hardie but surely he couldn't be worse than Morelos! I wonder how we would have done over the last few weeks if Ryan Jack, Rossiter and Wallace had all been fit?

The boy barjonas is every bit as good as anything we have running about our midfield just now!

We can't even keep or young talents! It's all wrong from top to bottom. And I agree that the DOF role is a load of nonsense.
