The shock news I'm hearing this morning, is that steven davis has only signed a 6 month loan deal, until the end of the season! Why a loan deal many of us ask? I thought his deal was most definitely going to be a permanent one! I take It this has to be down to his wages maybe being unaffordable, for us. The other reason is surely not, that davis is keeping his options open, to see what other clubs want to sign him, in the summer!

He’s on a reported £60,000 grand a week and still has 6 months of that deal left it looks as if he is running that contract out and then do a deal with rangers at the end of the season.

Davis on 6 month loan deal is a shock but my feeling is we will have him and Defoe both just for 6 months unless maybe we win the title. Bournemouth have the option to recall him in the summer so I’d be surprised if they didn’t take up that option.

I don’t see how this is a big deal?! It’s win win really, we get him for 6 months for a title push, if we win the league he’ll probably sign. If we don’t we have other CM available and could probably save some money in wages.

Maybe not such a bad piece of business. We hope and expect both Davis and Defoe to still be quality players but this allows us the luxury of only being committed to paying his wages or whatever portion of it till the end of the season.
If it doesn’t work out we are not needing to pay a wage for a further year, if it does I’m sure both parties will get another 12 month deal done at the end of the season.
As it stands I Genuinely can’t see Defoe being recalled either as his gaffa stated he supports whatever’s best for Jermaine before splashing out £19m on Solanke as his back up striker.
Heard the boy King is attracting interest from Chelsea though which could change things.

Maybe it’s just me but I was always under the impression it was a deal until the end of the season. Loan or otherwise. No great shock to me. Probably a loan so his wages are subsidised by Southampton.

It’s not shock news it’s actually ideal for us and him. See if he still has it and can adapt to our style. Yes he was brilliant for us in the past but we have a new style and manager and Davis isn’t that young player we had before.

I'm not fooled in the least by supporters saying its not a shock to them, that its a 6 month loan deal steven davis is signing, as opposed to the reported 18 month permanent deal! that's supporters trying to save grace by saying that now! Truth is, the majority of our supporters will be slightly shocked, as we thought it was a permanent deal, that davis was signing! Just be honest for god sake!

Surely this is just a win, win situation. He gets his existing wages with us only contributing what we deem affordable.

No doubt we’ll thrash out a permanent agreement in the summer, but by starting with a loan contract Davis bags an extra 100k or more over the next 6 months before settling for what we can afford!

Supercoop, relax it was always contractually going to be an initial 6 month loan for the reasons stated, not a shock.

Ok I am HONESTLY not shocked or annoyed at this situation. We will have him until the end of the season regardless so whether he then signs in the summer or not is irrelevant. We are getting him now for 6 months and hopefully he helps us win the league which is all that matters.

Davis would not come back for only six months. He takes 60 k till end of season them signs two year deal.

Calm down Coops, I think you really should try and avoid tabloid newspapers. Their sensationalist spin seems to get you in a panic every time. He’s not keeping his options open he just couldn’t come to an agreement with Southampton to tear up the remainder of his contract. He will sign in the summer probably 1year with a further year option.
