Hearing today Defoe could be heading back south due to lack of game time.

Not heard anything but not surprised Defoe will still do the damage if starting most weeks bit Kevin nisbet should be his replacement if true his play football the right way he would suit our style of play very well and young and Scottish.

I was reading ueasterday the highest earners at each club in the Scottish premiership. It said Defoe was on £35k a week at rangers. I was shocked. I thought he was on £20/ 25k, still too much for his contribution. He’s a great player to have on board but I do feel his wages are too high for us to pay just for his experience around the place as that’s what it seems we’re doing? I also agree being in nisbet. 👍.

Bit arrogant towards coop John, but I'm not surprised. Coop was only asking if it was reliable info or hearsay. To be honest if its true he's on 35k then he should be allowed to go. That money could be used to tie down Kamara and Kent or on a starting 11 player that would improves. As much as I like Defoe, 35k for a bit part player is not good business👍.

There's 2 different debates here going on about jermain defoe so i'll stake what i mean 🤔We shouldn't/ can't keep defoe on his current wages, if indeed he is on 35k a week first and foremost! However I personally think the wee man would take a decent size wage cut to stay on at rangers, as he has stated before the money isn't the driver for him anymore 🤔I think reduced wages for defoe and a coaching role within on a new 1 year contract would be a no brainer for me 👍🇬🇧
He's still valuable to have around and when called upon, will without a doubt still score goals for rangers 👌.

To be honest I can't see why Defoe would want to leave. On the verge of his 1st league winners medal and guarenteed a coaching role if he wants it at the end of the season. If the board and coaching staff are happy with this wages then I am ok with it!

1st of all Jermaine Defoe won’t be leaving in this window he will want more game time which is what he will get especially when European games come back around and players will get rested in certain league games or come off earlier if they start.
Jermaine is desperate for a league winners medal and will want to contribute to earn it.
Rangers were paying around £30k contribution of his wages when he was on 18 month loan due to his £60k per week Bournemouth where paying him.
JD now earns around £15k-20k per week when he signed 12 month contract last summer, he might have appearance, win and goal bonuses on top of that but he definitely doesn’t earn in excess of £20k per week.
I’m happy to say I’m wrong if A he leaves in this window or B his wage packet is leaked but I’m confident with what Iv said is true.

2. It has never been suggested, let along guaranteed, that he will be offered a coaching job - or that he even wants to coach.
3. If I am allowed a guess, I'd say he will leave at the end of the season.

Our top earner is kemar roofe. No player is on big bucks. I have heard from a few people close to the top of our club that the days of the big wages are gone. I think Defoe knows his career is coming to an end but his experience is way too valuable to let go. He would have had full knowledge of his role this season when he agreed to sign. can't see our management team promising him the games then going out and bringing in 2 1st team quality players in Itten and Roofe. SG seems pretty up front in the way he speaks to people.
