That's some collection of teams, John25!
Do you think we will be able to hang on to him?

When the big teams come a calling, there’s not much we can do. I only wish we could get these young guys into our squads quicker and at least get a decent fee for them.

Another Billy Gilmour situation it looks like, not a lot we can do when these teams can offer an insane amount Of money before they’ve even kicked a ball for the first team. Best thing we can do is have good sell on clauses and bonuses for hitting targets and hope we can make some money out of them.

Stu no way getting them into squad quicker, they need to be 16 to sign pro deal in Scotland, 17 in England but can sign at 16.
I really don’t know ph, my head says he must look after himself, I see his brother has just signed a further deal on other side of Glasgow according to Ayrshire paper
Short career. Say 5k at Rangers or sort of money Gilmour on. I’m told he has been watched by over 30 teams, which allegedly include, Bayern, Dortmund, Leverkusen, madrid and Barcelona. Also told lad wants a pathway to first team somewhere by time he is 18
Last player at rangers to score so many, so regular was Andrew Dallas, can’t get a game at Cambridge now.

El buff it’s actually down to clubs like Man City and Chelsea who add in sell on clauses or targets as the player is under 16 he is not ours.

Was alluding to contractual age John25, if only it allowed us first options and then other clubs would at least need to pay a fee… I’m sure a development fee will help at least. Nature of the game and for every one we lose, we gain an Aribo or Bassey I guess. swings and roundabouts.

@John25 probably because he quit Cambridge for the national league and plays for Solihull Moors now ;)

How do we make money if the lad hasn't signed with us yet?

Yep rf, my point 55 goals a season, could not get game at Cambridge moved further down the ladder. Four years ago people wanted him in first team.

Uefa/ fifa should have put a salary cap on players wages years ago this would have helped us keep wilson, yes more money in england but a lot of these players careers stall when they go to bigger leagues, billy gilmour is a prime example of that.

Bar u get a development fee. Or a big club like Chelsea still buy him like they done with Gilmour.

Mark not sure Gilmour career has stalled.

Gilmour career certainly hasn't stalled he's playing first team football in the biggest league in world football and is now a key member of a national team on the brink of a world Cup finals.

John not sure what billy gilmour does next, he's playing in a very poor Norwich side that looks certain to be regulated this season, he's not getting back in that chelsea midfield any time soonif he'd have stayed with us he'd have developed into a better player and then if he'd have wanted went to the epl.

John25 that's true 55 goals one season next couldn't get a game. Football development is purely down to finding coaches that are good for you too. If a kid is banging them in for his boyhood heroes youth team doesn't get a chance then goes down the leagues, that isn't always about skill its about having your heart broken and finding it difficult to pick yourself up. That boy was banging them in against European teams and needed to get the right continuation of his development but instead like so many others booted to the side. Some are strong and say f##@ it but others may never get it back. Was there many better than Andy Dallas at that age, then? So Andy Dallas will have seen others progress at other teams who weren't as good but they had a pathway and belief from their coaches. Middleton at 17/ 18 was better than he is now, Stephen Kelly is heading down the same road, and that was down to the managing of them. Gerrard fell out with Middleton, and couldn't workout if Middleton was a full grown man or he was an 18 year old. Either way it's up to the manager to get the most from them. If you had an argument with your teenage kids and you acted like the teenager then that isn't going to work out well. If Walter Smith had Middleton and Kelly they'd both be pushing for starts week in week out. I've seeny own boy boss it against Liverpool, arsenal and man u but there is something missing between u18 and the first team in Scotland and that is when the managers get involved. Gerrard brought lonee after lonee from Liverpool and at first sacrificed jack and arfield for them so what chance do kids have when minds are made up before they get a chance.

The problem for me is we don’t have a proper pathway from 18-21. If minor clubs looked out they would allow hibs hearts Aberdeen rangers Celtic have b team pathway similar to Spain, Holland Germany.
I actually believe that Dallas was never going to make it, watched him at Morton and thought no way.

Nice thread lads reference the young players. I'll admit I don't follow them so I know nothing about them but look out for John25's posts on them. I've said for last 15 years or so if I had a kid breaking through I wouldn't have him at Rangers tbf as we have been very poor at giving the young players consistent game time which they need to take them up a level. Shame as it sounds as though Wilson could be a hit. Will see what GVB does with our decent youth prospects.
