Just watched tav on rangers tv there. I'm more convinced now than ever that he's staying.

Partick, god help us, no one wants him including majorof our fans.

Am not one for having a go at players, but Tav has been a great servant to the club and time to move on.
All teams playing against us just need to attack down the left wing and its job done.

It would be best for all parties if tav moved on.

Sadly his fantastic legacy will be eroded.

I never had one shred of doubt all along that our captain james tavernier was staying at rangers ?Now it's from the horse's mouth let's for god's sake put this subject to bed and look forward to hopefully a few more signings and the start of the new season on saturday ? looking forward to it ???.

If he is indeed staying I would imagine he's a first team pick and still club captain?

Has to go. Yes, a loyal servant but can be absolutely no room for sentiment. The only reason he will be here this season will be because no one comes in for him. No other reason.
8.) 01 Aug 2024
01 Aug 2024 11:31:47
If tav stays he must merit his place we simply cannot have any1 playing because of past exploits.
9.) 01 Aug 2024
01 Aug 2024 11:50:44
No one interested in a defender who can't defend so we are stuck with him.

If Tavernier is our number one rb this season, then am having a doubt in Clement, because I've seen it myself he's not even the same player he was a year ago, definitely going back the way, which is never nice but it's happening, I was in him a would be wanting out before a great deal of fans turn against him, that should never because he's been a great player for us, that will never be me, but it will happen.

Correct no room for sentiment in football, Pep moved on David Silva, Agiero and Kompany
If he stays he should take a wage cut he knows our situation.

Walter this won't be put to bed till Tavernier is away. He's finished, miles past his best and a poor captain too. You seem very keen for him to finish his rangers career getting ripped apart by motherwell and Dundee wingers never mind what maeida will do. He's only still here because no one wants him.
If you thought he was getting unfair criticism last year then you better strap yourself in because it's only going to get worse. You seem absolutely blinkered when it comes to James Tavernier and I don't have a clue why. He maybe rescued you from a well or something. Only you and every left midfielder in the country is happy with him staying.

Everything he does will be under the microscope, with all his faults he was always fit and ready to play, a think even that might be slipping, we really need Stirling fit for Kiev game.

I have a been a big Tav fan over the years but feel this is not the best outcome (maybe no alternatives though if no offers came in) .
I believe he will HAVE to relinquish captaincy as we need stronger leadership and should not be first pick (unless form dictates it) .
When stating Tav will be considered one of our best ever Right Backs in future I have been asked my age as there have been manyI have been asked before how long I have been a supporter (40 years) but I stand by that statement and easy top 5 in those 40 years.
I have thought hard about this and came up with over 20 but when you remove the obviously weaker ones:
Dariusz Adamczuk, Phil Bardsley, Alec Cleland, Kirk Broadfoot, Adam Devine, Sebastien Faure, John Flanagan, Lee Hodson, Kevin Muscat, Matt Polster, Fraser Wishart, Stephen Wright, Maurice Ross, Jimmy Nicholl, Dujon Sterling.
You are left with:
Alan Hutton, Nathan Patterson, Sergio Porrini, Fernando Ricksen, Steven Whittaker, Gary stevens.
Ricksen was best in centre. Patterson and Hutton did not do enough in first team (time served) IMO so it is then you start to hit the top of the list.
This season I fear he is going to tarnish this if over-relied upon.

This is depressing news! He should be punted (if anyone will buy him), or told he's being dropped, and will play 2nd fiddle.

Tav's our new number 10.

Personally I never wanted him to go . I felt that at the end of last season he was knackered having played 60 games because all the other injuries meant there was nobody to give him a rest. This pre-season he was injured and is only now playing games so has looked really rusty . I reserve judgement until he is match fit and then see how he looks . For me, he is an attacking asset that we are struggling to replace, apart from his non penalty goals, his assists are higher than any forward player we have. We do need to keep some experience around the club . He would be in my Top 5 right backs because of what he has done for us although not at the level of the best two, Jardine and Stevens, after that its probably guys like Hutton and Tav.

Let’s not he is serial loser and can’t defend. God help us indeed.

Who will tav play second fiddle to Sterling who can’t keep fit? A think he should move on myself but if no one comes in he will be here even if for back up. You all said no one wanted Goldson but he endup going still time left for tav to leave this window.
20.) 01 Aug 2024

Walter. Glad u r happy to be second best. I’m not.

“Teams just need to attack down the left wing and it’s job done”. or they could attack us through the middle because our midfield and CBs were sh*te and non existent last year ? or down the right because our two left backs couldn’t defend either. Absolute nonsense to try to make out that the one guy who has continually dug us out is the one holdin the team back. Far bigger issues in that defence than Tav and the support of a proper RW will help.

When did Tav dig us out last year coisty. He didn't he rubbish the bed 20 seconds into the biggest game of the season then his response in the next 2 games was to give away possession within the first minute of each game directly leading to shots on goal. Even with borna on the pitch opposition still target our captain. Celtic could sell maeida for 20 million based on his performances against us on tavs side of the pitch. Scoring own goals and getting rinsed easily in preseason games doesn't fill me with any hope that he can turn it around. His legs are gone and his mind isn't far behind.

I kind of agree about both Tav and Goldson playing as many games in successive years I'd like to see what he's like when managed a bit better tbh.

Gal77 - Dug us out against Servette in UCL qualifier, scored to dig us out late on in the 2-1 v hearts, scored to dig us out of defeat away to Aberdeen, also scored to dig us out against Aberdeen in december 1-0, dug us out 2-1 away to Killie when we were getting beat. He’s a RB. and that’s not including all the other goals and assists he had last season or the insane amount of times he’s stepped up over the last 9 years ??.
26.) 01 Aug 2024

Coisty you forget the amount of times he costs us last season every celtic game open your eyes.

So I'll give you servette and Aberdeen but two of the 3 other goals you mentioned are penalties and one a free kick. He takes every penalty and free kick so surely he's not digging us out but doing his job. Do you know when he's not doing his job, when he's constantly out of position and giving the ball away and when opposing players are strolling past him with ease. If you think that's constantly digging us out then wow. He has been a good signing for Rangers absolutely but now his penalties and assists are far outweighed by his mistakes. I still believe he will be gone before window shuts.

Storm what goals exactly did he cost us? I know because i’ve went back through the highlights of every single league and cup game. It’s why I know this is all just a bullsh*t narrative pushed by angry bears with a vendetta. Has he made mistakes, absolutely. Is he the best defender in the world, no. He’s nowhere near as bad as made out to be and it doesn’t help when the 2 CBs beside him had shockers of a season along with 2 terrible DMs who offered no protection or cover. Gal77 he still stepped up and took them and scored them. What more can he do in those situations? You asked when he dug us out and I’ve told you. He’s also provided valuable assists throughout the season.

I'm scunnered with all this mince about Tav, aye people have opinions, but for the love of God, all you need to do is watch and actually see. Great player, but his time is over. Imo.
